What if the problem isn't that you want “too much,” but that the world keeps insisting you be just one thing? In this A Fresh Story: Book Talk, Amanda Goetz opens the door to the messy middle—those seasons when ambition and tenderness, rebuilding and exhaustion, motherhood and desire, all crowd the same room. She tells the truth about filing for divorce while leading marketing at The Knot, raising three kids under four, and learning to love a life that refused to fit a single lane. Her new book, Toxic Grit: How to Have it All and (actually) Love What You Have, is a practical guide for anyone trying to reconcile competing parts of themselves. Drawing on her years as a founder (House of Wise) and a marketer, Amanda offers “character theory,” a framework for re-meeting the cast inside you—the worker, the mother, the lover, the friend—and rewriting their scripts. Across three sections—Meet Your Characters, Honor the Imbalance, and Master the Multiverse—she gives language and tools for intentional seasons, “front-burner” focus, guilt-free check-ins, and spin cycles that help you redistribute energy when life shape-shifts without asking. Why does this matter now? Because life transitions—divorce, career pivots, becoming or unbecoming in motherhood—demand both grit and gentleness. Amanda's story is a permission slip: set an end date for your sprint, name what's on the front burner, and communicate the season to your supporting cast. This is a book you can work through with your therapist, your book club, or alone at the kitchen table—a restorative companion for anyone who needs a framework to feel whole again, not smaller. If you are lost, numb, or newly starting over, Toxic Grit offers a map and the courage to choose yourself.Toxic Grit: How to Have it All and (actually) Love What You Have by Amanda Goetz

On today's episode of Play It Brave, I'm joined by my dear friend, the incredible creative and leader, Carrie Moe. Carrie is someone I deeply admire—not only because of her talent (she's styled for brands like Ritz-Carlton, Fujifilm, and Berta Bridal, and been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot, and Brides), but because of the way she approaches her work with confidence, creativity, and so much integrity. We dive into: ✨ Why collaboration is more powerful than competition in the creative industry. ✨ The myth of “falling behind” and how to release the pressure to keep up. ✨ What it means to value your time and treat yourself as a luxury brand. ✨ The importance of community, networking, and in-person connection for growing your career. ✨ How saying no to misaligned opportunities can open the door to bigger, more aligned “yeses.” We also talk about the Hybrid Collective Conference, which is coming to Charleston in 2026. Hybrid has been one of my favorite places to teach, learn, and connect since 2017, and Carrie shares so beautifully about why it continues to be such a transformative space for photographers and creatives. This conversation is a reminder that your artistry is yours alone. The way you see, create, and bring beauty into the world cannot be replicated—and that's exactly what makes it valuable. About the Hybrid Collective Dreamers, Innovators, Goal Getters...Hybrid was established in 2017 by four industry leaders who saw the need for education and connections within the film photography space. Hybrid continues as a women owned company with a team who seeks to change the world by empowering, encouraging, and connecting with YOU.  While we have had our career highlights (Featured in Martha Stewart Print, Harpers Bazaar, traveled the globe for clients) nothing thrills our hearts like seeing a gathering of people come together and leave forever changed. From our ad-on masterclasses, breakout sessions,  to our diverse speaker line-up, we cover all of the areas of priority in your business. We dive deep into the knowledge details of how to up-level, covering the details needed to grow a legacy brand and our teachers offer insider tips on every challenge you might face in your business. For photographers across the globe, we have become an inclusive and immersive experience that leaves our attendees' hearts forever changed. Find all the information on Hybrid Collective here.Follow Hybrid Collective on Instagram here. P.S. Use code "DB26SC" when you register for Hybrid Collective 2026 and you'll receive $200 off your admission ticket plus a $425 credit toward my masterclasses at the conference. That's $625 of value waiting for you — but I only have 10 codes, so when they're gone, they're gone!

Captain Jimmy Armel is an Army Ranger veteran, founder of Knot Lucky Veteran Fishing, and a man on a mission to heal others through the ocean. After 11 years in the military—including brutal combat deployments—Jimmy faced the battles of PTSD, brain injuries, and addiction. Through fishing, plant medicine, and service, he found a path back to purpose. In this conversation, we go deep on combat, trauma, forgiveness, psychedelic therapy, shark tagging, and how fishing changes lives. Some of the moments I found most meaningful in this conversation were: How fishing gave Jimmy purpose when everything else was falling apart. The raw truth about combat, concussions, and what veterans really experience. Jimmy's near-death experience — and how it changed his outlook forever. The power of psychedelic therapy (Ibogaine & Ayahuasca) in healing trauma. Why helping veterans isn't about pity — it's about purpose, community, and action.

This week on Butt Honestly, Dr. Carlton is packing more than just his suitcase as he gears up for a cheeky trip to London — and that's just his first stop! Meanwhile, Dangilo tries to keep things grounded. The boys dive into the deep end with a conversation about pronouns and why language matters, before answering a question about fissures — from someone who doesn't even listen to the show (rude, but okay). They take a bit go a serious turn as they unpack the emotional toll lose and overdose. Then, just when you think your cheeks have dried — we're back to steamy territory. This week's Hit It or Quit It gets wild with tales of bathroom BJs (public plumbing, anyone?), sketchy Aussie sexcapades, chastity cages (yes, we're locked in), sensual massage parties, and a little something special from Black's Beach. Sun, sand, and... submission? They wrap things up, as always, with their “Love Language of the Week” — a soft landing after a very hard ride. So plug in, lube up, and loosen your grip on reality — Episode 57 is serving sex, substance, and just the right amount of sass.

Untying Remote Work: Adaptive Leadership & Better Communication with Dianna Anderson

Breakfast Leadership

Untying the Knot of Remote Work Communication In today's evolving workplace, communication breakdowns are more than just frustrating—they're costly. Dianna Anderson joins me to unpack her innovative "Untying the Knot" approach, rooted in large-scale change management and coaching. We dive deep into how organizations often rush remote work decisions without engaging their teams, and how this disconnect impacts morale and productivity. It's not just about location—it's about listening. The Shift Toward Adaptive Leadership Post-pandemic workplaces require more than 20th-century leadership styles. Dianna and I discuss how adaptive, people-first leadership is crucial in today's fast-paced, complex world. We explore how leaders can build bridges across generations and departments by fostering creativity, collaboration, and—most importantly—better conversations. From Individual Contributor to Impactful Leader Too often, high-performing employees are promoted to leadership roles without the tools or training to succeed. I share insights from my own leadership journey, including how I transformed a toxic workplace—not with layoffs, but through authentic communication and meeting staff where they were. Leadership isn't innate—it's learned, and it's teachable. Putting People First During a Crisis When the pandemic hit, I made a clear choice: prioritize people over processes. I talk about how checking in on employees' lives beyond work not only boosted morale but built a stronger, more connected organization. Supporting your team's well-being is not a soft skill—it's a strategic advantage. Human-Centered Leadership in the Age of AI In a world where algorithms drive decisions, we can't afford to lose our humanity. Dianna and I unpack why performance metrics must be balanced with emotional intelligence and clear direction. Her one-day coaching-based leadership workshop is a game-changer for teams ready to embrace a more thoughtful, collaborative way to lead. Creating a Shared Language for Change Organizational transformation starts with a shared language. Dianna shares how her work helps companies align people and priorities through simple yet powerful communication practices. I strongly encourage organizations ready to shift their culture to connect with Dianna—you'll be glad you did.   Bio Info Dianna Anderson is a visionary leader and the driving force behind Cylient, a pioneering organization dedicated to equipping people to successfully engage in the conversations they are currently avoiding. Dianna believes that if you can't talk about something, you can't change it. Dianna saw the potential for creating coaching cultures in 2005 after co-authoring Coaching that Counts, a textbook based on ROI data and her years of coaching experience that illuminates how coaching engagements add value in organizations. The Untying the Knot® approach to “in the moment” coaching that she created has equipped over 55,000 people globally to wire up a coaching-based approach to leadership. As a thought leader in leadership development, Dianna has worked with clients across industries, from Fortune 500 companies to smaller organizations. Her approach combines deep empathy, evidence-based strategies, and a profound understanding of human dynamics to help leaders at all levels unlock their potential. Under her guidance, Cylient has become a trusted partner for organizations seeking to create adaptive, resilient cultures in today's fast-paced world. Dianna is a sought-after speaker for her ability to translate complex leadership challenges into actionable insights. Her engaging style and practical wisdom make her a captivating guest on podcasts, where she shares her journey, lessons learned, and discerning insights regarding the power of coaching-based leadership to address current, complex issues. With her unwavering passion for redefining leadership and her commitment to driving meaningful change, Dianna Anderson is not just shaping conversations—she's sparking a movement that reimagines the future of leadership. Shilpi was guided into a home birth through various channels — one of them being how the medical system was too keen to label hers as a geriatric pregnancy and potentially schedule her into a surgery.Often, women over 35 are labelled as geriatric — meaning care for old people in the medical system. This brackets them into care meant for the elderly, including the approach of looking at everything through a high-risk lens. This often complicates pregnancy more than it is complicated in itself.Shilpi's raw story takes us through her thoughts, preparation, as well as doubts and questions leading up to the birth. Her partner's support and preparation in birth, and more. This is also a story of learning to take self-responsibility in birth — no matter where you birth — in a hospital, a birth center, or at home. Nobody but you decides how you want to be taken care of and when you wish the care to change. It is a very personal space, and there is a big role of intuition in life and birth itself.Tune in to the story now.About the Guest:Part of my childhood was spent in the gorgeous valley of Dehradun, and then by the sea in Mumbai.
