Page One, produced and hosted by author Holly Lynn Payne, celebrates the craft that goes into writing the first sentence, first paragraph and first page of your favorite books. The first page is often the most rewritten page of any book because it has to work so hard to do so much—hook the reader. We interview master storytellers on the struggles and stories behind the first page of their books. About the guest author: Crystal King's latest book The Happiness Collector was published by Mira. King is also the author of In the Garden of Monsters, The Chef's Secret and Feast of Sorrow, which was long-listed for the Center for Fiction's First Novel Prize and was a Must Read for the MassBook Awards. Her poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and she served as the former co-editor of the online literary arts journal Plum Ruby Review. In addition to her literary gifts, fueled by a passion for the food, language and culture of Italy, King is a culinary enthusiast and marketing expert. With an MA in critical thinking, she has taught writing, creativity and social media at multiple universities including Boston University, UMass, Mass College of Art, Grub Street and Harvard Extension. A native of the Pacific Northwest, King has made Boston her home. You can find her and lots of wonderful offerings at crystalking.com and IG @crystallyn14. About the host: Holly Lynn Payne is an award-winning novelist and writing coach, and the former CEO and founder of Booxby, a startup built to help authors succeed. If you have a first page you'd like to submit to the Page One Podcast, please do so here. As an author and writing coach, I know that the first page of any book has to work so hard to do so much—hook the reader. So I thought to ask your favorite master storytellers how they do their magic to hook YOU. After the first few episodes, it occurred to me that maybe someone listening might be curious how their first page sits with an audience, so I'm opening up Page One to any writer who wants to submit the first page of a book they're currently writing. If your page is chosen, you'll be invited onto the show to read it and get live feedback from one of Page One's master storytellers. Page One exists to inspire, celebrate and promote the work of both well-known and unknown creative talent. “Everyone comes to this material world attracted to sense gratification, and the hard knot of sense gratification is the attraction between male and female. By this attraction, one becomes overly attached to the material world in terms of griha-kshetra-suta-apta-vitta—that is, home, land, children, friends, money and so forth. Thus one becomes entangled in the bodily conception of ‘I' and ‘mine.'” (Shrila Prabhupada, Shrimad Bhagavatam, 4.29.85 Purport)

We're kicking off a brand new two-week marriage and relationships series called “Tighten the Knot.” In this message, Pastor Sean King sets the foundation by addressing why relationships are often so difficult and how God's original design offers a better way forward. Starting in Genesis, Pastor Sean walks us through God's vision for relationships, how sin distorted that design, and why our choices matter. This message contrasts the pattern of the world with the biblical pattern for relationships, marriage, sexuality, and identity, reminding us that sanctification is a process God invites us into with grace and patience. Whether you're married, single, dating, or hoping to be someday, this message offers biblical wisdom, practical truth, and hope for restoration. God's design is not meant to shame us, but to lead us toward freedom, healing, and wholeness. We pray this message encourages and equips you as you pursue Christ-centered relationships. ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 – Welcome to Venture Church Online00:13 – Opening interaction and introduction00:33 – Pastor Sean introduces himself and marriage background01:00 – Relationships are hard and real-life humor01:46 – Relationship goals and the reality of marriage02:21 – Introducing the “Tighten the Knot” series02:43 – Why this series is for everyone03:06 – Upcoming messages and marriage conference03:50 – God's original design in Genesis05:01 – “You are very good” – identity in creation05:54 – The fall and broken relationships06:54 – Choices dictate outcomes07:46 – Sanctification and working back toward God's design08:38 – Christ-centered relationships as a no-lose proposition09:29 – Following God's pattern vs culture's pattern10:01 – God's patience and grace10:30 – The enemy's tactics against relationships11:00 – Culture vs Scripture11:33 – Romans 12:2 and resisting cultural patterns12:11 – Comparing two relationship patterns12:40 – Culture's view of sexuality13:45 – Biblical teaching on sexuality (1 Corinthians 6)14:59 – Identity, shame, and forgiveness15:40 – God's design for unity in marriage16:35 – Marriage as God's intentional design17:55 – Shame, separation, and restoration18:39 – Choices leading toward or away from God19:51 – The grace and forgiveness of Jesus20:24 – Culture's view of marriage20:45 – Self-first vs servant-hearted love21:39 – Happiness vs joy in marriage22:45 – Hardship and enduring love23:14 – 1 Corinthians 13 and biblical love24:05 – Encouragement for healing and restoration25:00 – Prayer for forgiveness and renewal26:21 – Invitation to restoration and healing26:58 – Relationship survey introduction29:01 – Survey instructions and purpose34:04 – Encouragement from survey results34:53 – Invitation to become marriage mentors35:35 – Closing and dismissal
Top Stories for January 10th Publish Date: January 10th PRE-ROLL: Kia Mall of Georgia From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, January 10th and Happy Birthday to Rod Stewart I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Affordability a top concern as lawmakers prepare for Georgia legislative session Srim Academy to host series of free seminars for young parents Christkindl Market drove 77% increase in downtown Lawrenceville visitors All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: EAGLE THEATRE STORY 1: Affordability a top concern as lawmakers prepare for Georgia legislative session When Georgia lawmakers head back to the Capitol next week, it’s all about affordability—or at least that’s the plan. House Speaker Jon Burns isn’t mincing words: “We’re laser-focused on making life affordable,” he said Wednesday, pointing a finger at property taxes for crushing the dream of homeownership. “For too many families, it’s slipping out of reach. We’ve got to fix that.” Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are eyeing income taxes. A committee led by Sen. Blake Tillery wants to nix the 5.19% tax for individuals earning under $50,000 (or $100,000 for couples) and eventually scrap it altogether by 2032. But affordability isn’t just about taxes. Rising medical costs? A mess. The end of federal health insurance subsidies? A looming crisis. Burns says the House will tackle health care, focusing on keeping doctors in Georgia by expanding residency programs. STORY 2: Srim Academy to host series of free seminars for young parents Srim Academy, a Montessori school in Norcross, is kicking off a series of free seminars for young parents—because, let’s face it, parenting is hard. Topics? Everything from potty training and screen time battles to fostering independence and getting kids to actually move their bodies. The first session, “Fostering Your Child’s Independence: Lemonade, Ladybugs and Learning,” happens Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at 5511 Williams Road. Expect 90 minutes of practical advice, hands-on activities (think crafts and cooking), and maybe even a few lightbulb moments. Led by Srim’s seasoned faculty and guests from Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains, it’s all about building confidence—for kids and parents. Bonus: giveaways! Details? A total game-changer. Nearly 371,000 people visited the market during its debut season downtown—more than double the attendance from its Buckhead days, even with fewer open days. And here’s the kicker: 159,500 of those visitors wandered over to the Lawrenceville Square, boosting local restaurants and shops by 77% compared to 2024. Free parking, shuttles, and a glowing Winterlight Walk helped draw crowds, with visitors from 48 states. Downtown businesses saw sales jump 5–30%, and vendors reported 20–30% higher sales than the previous year. The collaboration between the city and Gwinnett County was key, with County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson adding, “This event showed what’s possible when partnerships thrive.” Lawrenceville’s officially on the holiday map. And the party doesn’t stop there—StillFire Brewing is hosting an after-party with live music, food trucks, and 25 beers on tap. In math and science, knots do far more than keep shoes on feet. For more than a century, mathematicians have studied the properties of different knots and been rewarded by a wide range of useful applications across science. Classifying how some knots are different from others is an important part of this work. Earlier this year, two mathematicians found that a theory for how to differentiate between knots is false. In fact, they found infinitely many counterexamples that prove that this method for studying knots does not work the way it's supposed to. In this episode, contributing writer Leila Sloman joins editor in chief Samir Patel to tell the story of how the unknotting number came unraveled.Audio coda courtesy Zinadelphia
In today's episode, I'm talking with my friend Dawn Weisberg of Tularosa Flowers about what it actually takes to create and book large-scale luxury weddings — not just from a "pretty" standpoint, but from a strategic, energetic, and logistical one. Dawn and I both came to the wedding industry later in life with long creative careers behind us — mine in directing and acting, hers in costume design for film and television. We get into how those backgrounds shaped the way we approach weddings as world-building: cinematic, intentional, immersive, and deeply rooted in storytelling. We talk about: How Dawn went from starting florals at 45 to designing six-figure weddings in under a decade Why she treats every wedding like a film set: thinking in scenes, movement, and guest experience The behind-the-scenes systems and logistics that make large-scale productions possible How her viral "Malibu Barbie meets Marie Antoinette" pink wedding came to life — and what made it blow up online The creative process of pulling inspiration from runway shows, architecture, art, travel, and above all, the couple themselves Why color is having a moment in the luxury world and how to use it in a way that still feels timeless and elevated The mindset shifts required to feel safe holding and delivering on big budgets The role publications & Pinterest have played in her growth (and how she handles rejection like a pro) How styled shoots and editorials catapulted both of our careers into higher price points What florists actually need from photographers on a wedding day to grow their own businesses We also explore the emotional and energetic side of this work — what it's like to be genuinely obsessed with your craft, how to avoid burnout by building a business that actually feeds you, and why weddings are still the modern-day fairy tale for both couples and creatives. P.S. I'm hosting a Tuscany Real Wedding Workshop this spring — a real wedding with a real couple and 30 real guests, photographed and designed over multiple days. You'll walk away with: A full multi-day destination wedding story (engagement, welcome party, bridal editorial, wedding day, farewell event) A pre-trip mentorship to refine your brand, portfolio gaps, and shot list A post-trip call where we turn your gallery into a 90-day luxury marketing plan If your gut is saying "this is my next level," send me a DM and I'll send you the full proposal. We have very limited spots. Meet Dawn Dawn Weisberg is the owner and flower mastermind behind Tularosa Flowers, a luxury wedding design company in Southern California in the San Diego area. On a September afternoon in 2000, an FBI forensics analyst stood in her lab in Quantico, Virginia, staring into a microscope in confusion. She was looking at two strands of hair that were evidence in a murder investigation. And something wasn't right. She checked the label on the evidence bag the sample came from, then looked back into the microscope. She definitely wasn't imagining it. The label was wrong, which meant that the detective who had packaged the hairs and sent them over for analysis – had not understood what he was looking at. And this wasn't a small mistake. Because if the analyst was right about what the hairs really were – then the whole investigation she was working on was about to change.
