To say that Sharon Delaney McCloud is superhuman might just be an understatement.  Sharon is a mother, an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, advocate, TEDx Speaker, cancer survivor, author, communications expert, and entrepreneur. It’s near impossible to find something that Sharon has not conquered. About 15 years ago while Sharon was enjoying a successful career working as a television news anchor, she suddenly felt her life pulled in a different direction after the loss of her daughter to cancer.  Sharon realized she wanted to change her focus and though she was not sure exactly what to do, she knew she wanted to have more control over her life and time with her family. Sharon started the process by asking herself “What am I good at?” and “What comes naturally to me?” She asked her friends those same questions and wanted to know what they saw in her.  The common answer was that she was an amazing storyteller and could help others tell their own story. And with that, she set off on her own journey to put her gifts to use coaching clients and helping them learn how to communicate their own stories through media relations, message development, and digital marketing.   Sharon will tell you that great storytelling requires creating a connection and showing uniqueness in your story. But in a noisy world, it can be difficult to connect and Sharon says that soft skills - which she prefers to call power skills - are paramount to forming a deep connection with your audience. She believes women naturally have these power skills which combine high emotional intelligence with intuition, authenticity and reading people and situations.  And Sharon’s ability to use those power skills to quickly connect is something you feel the moment you meet her.  What can our intentional community do to help Sharon?  Sharon would love if we could support the organization she created to help families that suffer the loss of a child. After she lost her own daughter to cancer, Sharon was inspired to create Vilomah Voice to give a voice to grieving parents everywhere. This community provides a safe space for parents to talk about and celebrate the lives of their little ones that have passed away.  You can support this amazing organization at Vilomah Voice. Also, make sure to follow Sharon on Facebook and check out her amazing TEDx talk in North Carolina. Let's be intentional together.

Elisha is the perfect balance of grit and heart. When you meet Elisha you know right away you are in the presence of an incredibly strong woman but also an incredibly kind soul.  A rare find, Elisha offers the unique ability to look at any situation through the lens of experience and compassion. Elisha has said that she has always felt a calling to help others and she gives her heart and soul to everything she does. She makes decisions by asking herself, “How can I change things to make it better? How will I serve others and myself better?  Does it align with my inner core?”   And her worldview is also shaped through hard times and hard work.  As a child, Elisha’s family became homeless for a period of time. And though she experienced homelessness she never gave into hopelessness. She remembers angels that helped her when her family faced obstacles and she was determined to one day become an angel to others in need. In that spirit of selflessness, Elisha created a non-profit called Encompass Life Foundation whose mission is to offer support and guidance to people experiencing housing instability. Elisha has worked hard to pursue excellence in every facet of her life. In addition to her philanthropy, she has become a successful real estate broker and recently took the leap into property management as an investor and contractor and will soon open an amazing co-working space for women.  As a broker, she is able to blend her passion for houses and real estate with her passion for helping people. She enjoys being a support system to her clients and encourages us to connect to our inner and most real self and to always be in search of our happy place. How can our intentional community help Elisha?  Elisha would love if you could visit her website and provide feedback on her new co-working space for women. Let her know your thoughts on the space, the things that seem beneficial as well as any drawbacks that you notice.  You can also check out her podcast, Real Talk, Real Change. Jenna’s entrepreneurial spirit and energy was evident at a young age. She started her first business at 9 years old running a neighborhood general store and hasn’t looked back since. Even when growing up, she knew she had a passion for PR and marketing and that would be the path her life would take her. It’s not surprising that almost three years ago, Jenna decided to take a leap of faith and branch out and create her own company from scratch.  As a visionary, she looked toward marketing trends and tried to figure out what the future of the industry might look like in a digital world. She knew it wouldn’t be just fresh ideas that would make her company succeed, but that success would come from forming strong relationships and going the extra mile in nurturing those relationships. Jenna’s focus has always been on overdelivering for her clients and giving them tangible results with a personal touch. Jenna said, “I know that I want to help people genuinely and not just collect a check”. It's that pure, genuine attitude and deep personal investment in her clients that make Jenna so successful. As her business continued to grow she felt that provided her the bandwidth to make a difference on a larger scale. Though she says she’s still on her journey she knows that giving back, paying it forward and helping others are priorities for her. Jenna knows she has the correct intention for what she wants to do which is beyond just collecting a paycheck.  And in the spirit of paying it forward came Jenna’s vision for her happiness project.  She and her partner are about to launch a 5 day happiness habits challenge. Here they will challenge others to form these essential habits that promote happiness. The forum will be an uplifting community where everyone can be held accountable to follow through on these happiness habits.  We can not wait to hear when this project is live and ready to join! How do you build a brand when you’ve just moved to a new city and only know four people? Shelley has not only done this, but she’s on a mission to share the lessons learned about how to do it with others. More importantly, she wants to change the experience for new real estate agents and arm them with knowledge so they can be successful from day one, instead of floundering and struggling through frustration and fear. This is a valiant mission since most agents drop out in the first six months because they jumped into an industry they didn’t fully understand and didn’t have the support needed to stay the course.  “You are still a startup, even if you hang your license with a big brand. You are your own business.”  Most new real estate agents don’t have a lot of business experience and unfortunately, seasoned agents are guarded from helping them since agent turnover is so high in this business. But that first day as a real estate agent is a huge eye opener for many and most live in a moment somewhere between panic and pressure to perform. Shelley was no different, but she dug into her chosen path and was determined to find her way and leveraged the skills she had from building multiple radio stations from the ground up. She knew what kind of business she was going to build. “It was very clear to me where I could step in and do things differently. How are people supposed to be authentic when they haven’t done the work of understanding who they actually are.” And Shelley did the work very early in her journey. She wrote down who she was going to be, where she was headed, where the weaknesses were as well as the opportunities. She understood who she was going to be in business. “I always want to be the face of my brand, but I’d love to have a care team, so my people know how much I love them.” Shelley puts her heart and soul into every single client. “Giving a piece of yourself, because people want to know you so they can trust you.” And she wants them to be part of her life. She hosts Sunday dinners for clients, invests in gifts and time, and treats every client like they are family. These tactics are paving the way for her to be a 100% referral business. It all comes down to this fundamental truth for her and great advice for everyone else, “Super serving anybody is important in business.” How can our intentional community help Shelley’s business thrive? Join her on her mission to help change the game for new agents by giving them the help they need  on that critical first day on the job. Invite that new agent to lunch or for a cup of tea. Entrepreneur, investor, founder, CEO, mother, wife, chief badass. This woman has spent her entire professional career leveraging every asset she has and has risen to the top, again and again and again. She attributes her success to having amazing mentors, and now is dedicated to giving a hand up to the women who are trying to build themselves into the leader she has become.  When Bondilyn began her entrepreneurial journey over twenty years ago, she didn’t have the benefit of the currently growing women's movement of today. “I had to fight every step up the ladder and play the men's game. I’m so thrilled that there are women’s group and women's’ investment firms now. I want to help someone else do this in a fraction of the time.” As a classically trained pianist and percussionist, she took odd sales jobs to make ends meet, and it's no surprise that her brilliance could not be contained. Her past employer became her first client and was the start of her first creative services company. It wouldn’t be long before she was asking, what more the Universe had in store for her. “How can I create a more sustainable business, where I have a certain amount of revenue I can count on every month. I know how to sell these contracts, I know how to negotiate these deals, and I can align myself with the right people.” This was the beginning of her journey to eMerge. Bondilyn is able to bring her whole self to the table. She sees the world in rainbows, and draws on her artistic and creative background to problem solve using parts of her mind and processing that are her hallmarks of differentiation. “The challenges as a female are interesting because we have a lot of the same attributes as men. We’ve got the brains, we’ve got the brawn and we’ve got the balls to fight, but sometimes its harder to get a seat at the table. I've always felt that if I can just get to the table, I’m worthy to be there.”  And when things don’t work well, she finds another table to build and create at. My company was built on the foundation of trust and respect. I had a very strong sense of responsibility to my employees and their families. This was so important as we discussed the acquisition with Elevate, an Elm Street Technology Solution. “My spirituality is a guiding source for who i am as a wife, a mother and a business woman and I believe we don’t have to compromise our principles for success.” She’s earned her stripes and her wisdom through experience, both positive and negative. And a firm belief in knowing that goodness always comes back to you, she continues to triumph over obstacles while soaring above the fray. How can our intentional community help Bondilyn’s business grow? When you meet Alyssa, you’ll likely notice her ease of being, or maybe her signature cowboy boots will pull you in. Either way, you’ll know you’re in the presence of someone with vision, integrity and authenticity. Alyssa has a natural knack for knowing how to build a business and what will work. Our mutual friend and Alyssa’s mentor, Zach Schabot, said to her, “I’ve been betting on you for years, it's time you bet on yourself.” So she took this wisdom to heart and decided to launch her own business, Compass South. A lifelong learner struggling with ADD and bouts of depression, she has had to make up for any obstacles in her way and push through to her natural talent. But working really hard at things and having the gumption to learn comes from deep inside her. “If something makes me uncomfortable, I run toward it and do it until it becomes comfortable.”  Spend any time with Alyssa, you will hear her ask, “Well, what if it works?" She shares with us that she’s a believer that people won't take the next step because they are actually afraid of success. She not only prepares for the worst case scenario, but also stretches and has a plan if and when something wildly works. This gives her a competitive edge because she has a plan for any scenario. “Whether we believe it or not, society tells us that more money equals success.” But this is contrary to many people who have actually achieved financial success since money often comes at other costs. “I want to have success in all areas of my life. Balance is not necessarily a myth, but it's more about finding a rhythm for your life. I think this is the key to true success.” Alyssa reminds us that if we don’t define what enough is, we will just continue to grind and spin. Adding this layer of purpose and intention into our plan, will help us connect with the rhythm of our business and help find the ever elusive personal/professional balance. Raised by a mother who told her “she must” and a father who told her “she could”  Alyssa has never attributed any limiting factors to gender, but only to her abilities. Of which she knew and believed she could learn or push through whatever challenges she faced. Her best advice, “allow others to be vulnerable around you. This is a conscious action and when you create this space, some beautiful things begin to happen.” It’s true, spend the afternoon with Alyssa, and beautiful things are bound to happen. How can our intentional community help Alyssa’s business grow? She will be telling stories of how to thrive online. Learn more here.  Follow Alyssa on Facebook, Linkedin, and Instagram

Marilyn Wilson is one of the smartest women I’ve ever met. She’s one of those people who  just “gets it” and has been a huge inspiration to me and so many others in the real estate industry. Words like impact-driven, change maker and badass give you the essence of who she is and what’s she about. “Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to make positive waves of change.” Making the world a better place, leaving things better than when she arrived, these are her hallmarks and her wiring. She attributes her sense of purpose to her dad and his influence is felt deeply in her life. Marilyn tells the story of how he would remind her as a child that, “Everyone is an equal. We all put our pants on one foot at a time. Whether you’re a CEO or a student, always remember this.” And this advice as served her well as a woman in business. She hasn’t really felt anything other than worthy to be sitting at the tables she’s asked to join. Her attitude is simple, “Hey, I’m here and how can I contribute? You’re equal, I’m equal. We’re all here to contribute in our own unique way.” Marilyn’s business partner is her husband, Victor Lund. A well respected industry luminary in his own right. Their daughter is a rising star known in the dance world as Sparkles Lund. So the entire family is involved in the business and is often interwoven. “Our whole life, personal and professional, has somehow become one big family adventure.” For most people, finding the balance in juggling so much can be a challenge, but this is just how they operate. She knows her time is valuable and wants to make a difference with the projects she devotes her time to. “I will definitely rock the boat. I try to do so respectfully and with an open mind.” Our job as leaders is to help serve the needs of consumers in the best possible way we can. In my view, we also do this better when we are working together. Cooperation and collaboration is founded on the idea of win-win. Business, intelligence, emotional intelligence. The best CEOs are the ones who have made a lot of mistakes really fast, and they’ve learned from them.” How can we help Marilyn with intention? She asks us to look at the way we lead the real estate industry from the association and MLS side of things to see if there is a better path forward. She challenges us to ask ourselves every day, “What am I doing to innovate with my company? What am I doing to collaborate more effectively with those around me? What am I doing to use technology more effectively?”  Follow Marilyn on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Elizabeth Colon’s story is about so much more than weight loss. It’s about getting fit. And, in her eyes, fit stands for: Focused. Internal.Transfiguration. Now she’s committed to helping other women achieve the same success she has known. Most women are overwhelmed. “They are running companies, they are running their kid's life, their soccer family, the PTA and are forgetting about the most important part, themselves.” Elizabeth brings a simple, soulful approach to her coaching. From customized  grocery lists, to workouts, she holds your hand to help you find success. But, the real work happens with a shift in mindset. Incorporating daily rituals such as a gratitude journal (over a cup of tea!) should be positive and filled with energy. It’s all about the intention since action follows thought. And she understands how hard it is because she gained her weight while she was busy building her brokerage company and proving herself, too. A health scare woke her up and that’s when she decided it was time for a change. Tiffany knew she would own a brokerage from the very beginning.  So she took the steps needed to learn her market, paid attention to what was working, and studied her competition so she knew where the voids were and where could fill them. She’s soulful, smart and does everything to the Mth degree. Tiffany’s superpower lies in the details. She has a keen vision of how to create clever, creative events and experiences for her business and for her community. Her brain is just wired this way and this permeates every aspect of her business. If you take the gifts you have, you can always find a way to maneuver them to work in your favor. She could see her community was in need of local events. She decided to fill  this void and used her sweat equity to catapult her brand. She weaves her creative flair into everything from restroom signs, to the color of the chairs, and used this to kickstart things on a very small budget. Tiffany advises us to, "Never underestimate the value of sweat equity." So whatever your schtick, don't forget the importance of consistent branding across every channel to help build top of mind awareness and recognition. This helps break through the noise and be memorable. “Any time you can pique someone’s interest and get them thinking and connecting, the rate of retention is going to go through the roof.” Creativity can be the thing that takes something from good to great. Tiffany also hit the lottery when it comes to mentors. She counts Barbara Corcoran and Dolly Lenz amongst her guiding Lights, and will always underscore the importance of sage advice from someone who understands the daily challenges. "You have to have some sort of mentorship component to help navigate the path of entrepreneurship. Everything from the littlest things to the big, important decisions, require having someone as a sounding board and is critical for success."  How can our intentional community help Tiffany’s business grow? Tiffany is trying to find a soul-ution to manage the best way to grow without taxing her current system. You may have seen Sam’s face on TV, either on the Million Dollar Listing in Miami or perhaps as a real estate expert on Fox News or CNBC. For as long as she can remember, Sam loved to sell things. She started secretly selling trinkets, home baked goods and sticker books from her backpack when she was in grade school. She just had a knack for selling and has entrepreneur's blood running through her veins. Sam understands merchandising and the subtleties of how to maximize dollars, a skill she mastered during her time as a nightclub manager. She was always hustling, by night living the glamorous life, and by day building a nightclub course for the local college. She finally made the transition to real estate but it wouldn’t be long before she would start her own brokerage. “If i’m going to do something, I'm going to grow an empire around it. I wanted to grow something different. I wanted something with more modern and current branding without so many restrictions on marketing, and I knew others would appreciate this as well.” There isn’t much that gets in her way. When she doesn't get what she wants, she attributes this to any number of things:  lack of experience, comfort level with the person but not necessarily because of gender bias. She knows because she asks why she was passed over so she can analyze, improve, and sharpen her sword. “You can’t change people, I can educate them, but I won’t be able to change them. If I don’t like it, I can change how I respond.” In 2012, Sam’s real estate business was officially catapulted. She was looking outward to others who could help her business grow such as PR agencies and marketing consultants, but this approach was wrong for her. When she began to look inward, trusting her gut, her own abilities and savviness, things began to take off. This was her turning point and she hasn't looked back since. She was in the middle of her very own “Ariel Moment” knowing there was more for her, even if she didn’t quite know what that meant. So who is Valerie? She’s a storyteller, writer, teacher, coach, problem solver, and “encourager”, and wanted to create a role that enabled her to do ALL of these things. Consultant seemed to be a good catch all term to describe what she really does and what she is capable of. But it's hard to know who we want to be especially when so many of us are so many things. “We need to start by thinking about what we don’t want to be. Sometimes it's easier to understand what doesn’t work to get clarity about what we do want. Knowing what you don’t want helps free you from a path that is not intended for you.”  Any time we step out on a limb to trust our wings, we inherently step out of our comfort zone. It’s a risk, uncharted territory, and is new and scary. As women, we tend to be more methodical and cautious and often need that masculine voice of action to go for it. Valerie teaches us that a path forward often takes our best feminine and masculine qualities. In other words, success requires balance. In this episode, we dive right into the holy science of yoga with Nicole since this ancient knowledge is the foundation for a path toward higher consciousness. Now, more than ever, we need more awareness in our business and professional lives. “With yoga, we start to know and feel like ourselves and become very clear. We store all of our experiences in the body somewhere. And when these things open up, we remember things or get clarity with issues we may have been struggling with.”  We explore the idea of why business is so disconnected from a spiritual path. Our material-based culture drives this divide between our highest selves and glamorizes consumption, scarcity and competition. But the tide is turning, there is another way. It’s called conscious capitalism, fueled by intention, where we can bring our whole and best selves to the table. Nicole shares that in both business and life, it always comes down to karma and emptiness. Karma doesn’t mean fate or destiny, it means action. When we fully understand the laws of these two principles, as it relates to our business and our current state of mind, we move into the driver’s seat of our life. We begin to understand why the power of intention can have such a massive impact on what we co-create. Ask yourself: What is it I ultimately want? Are my actions aligned with my highest goals? When we know ourselves deeply, great shifts begin to happen and a world of possibility opens up. How can our intentional community help Nicole’s business prosper? Evening and personal hours were spent imagining, planning and preparing to take the leap of faith into entrepreneurship. So even a seemingly small thing like buying her first office desk, or designing a business card, became a practical step toward materializing her vision. “You start refining more and more. Who you are, who you’re not, who you serve and who you don’t, and really niching down about who you want to work with.” Katie’s husband Paul taught her an important lesson about the power of being direct. Instead of letting issues fester, she’s learned to pick up the phone and talk through things. ”In the past, I always feared confrontation, but in the last few years, I’ve gotten more confident and have started to clear the air quickly and find a better way to communicate.” We often underestimate the power of face to face or voice to voice communication, to ensure we can solve problems with our humanity.  How can our intentional community help Katie’s business grow? Early in her career, she knew she was in the wrong place, “Where did I go wrong? I don’t want to be that person. I want to make real change happen in real time.” She knew she had to build what didn't exist for her. Jack is fueled by a burning desire to help woman come together to redefine the second half of their life. She was acutely aware of how she was disappearing in society's eyes as she approached midlife and was not about to fade into the background. She is committed to rewrite the rules not just for herself, but for every woman over 45. How can we collectively help Jack as she pursues her vision of creating an intentional community for women in their second act? Go check out what’s she’s building at Kuel Life. Read her articles and share them on social media. Purchase something from one of the female entrepreneurs she's spotlighting. Tell a friend over 45 about her mission. Reach out to Jack and tell your Kuel Chief story. We are truly better together. Follow Jack online Kuel Life, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn.

Our paths crossed over twelve years ago and my life has forever been changed. I’m honored to shine a spotlight on my dear friend and spiritual teacher, Dharma Richards. Her entrepreneurial journey of owning a yoga studio is more similar to other ventures than one may think. Dharma and I frequently talk about (and feel) the subtle shift and power of circular communities, led by predominantly feminine attributes. We’re coming back from a linear way of thinking and creating a more nurturing environment of support and mutual benefit. We’re always learning from others within the community, we’re offering and also receiving. How can you help Dharma’s business grow? Get out and serve your community and spend time outdoors. Do something to bring nature inside your home. If more people become in tune with their intuition, we will all benefit. We have to understand that what comes around goes around and what goes around will come around again. Let's be intentional and begin to wake up to our highest selves. Follow Dharma at Yoga Garden in Apex and Yoga Garden in Pittsboro.

Ep: 6 Christine Kim, President at Climb Real Estate

When Christine has a tough day ahead of her, she has to give herself a mental pep talk to prepare herself to tackle the challenge. She reminds herself that it's not going to roll out the way you think it will. So she releases attachment to the outcome to make space for what will unfold. “Don’t be so married to how you expect it to work out, but be confident that it will work out the way it was meant to.”   Christine reminds us that we can’t put so much pressure on ourselves. Prioritization helps but she doesn’t beat herself up when she can’t take on everything. Some things are okay to wait until tomorrow, and this constant pressure pulls attention away from being present and at your finest. She strives for balance. My favorite part of the conversation is when Christine asks women to move into action. Whether you’ve had success or are in the process of building something, it's imperative for women to give each other a hand up. This is as simple as making an introduction, buying a product, writing a recommendation, suggesting a sister for the stage and supporting the women in your network. We need to move away from just being emotionally supportive and move toward action-driven support. How can our intentional community support Christine? Check out what she's building at Climb Real Estate. And, if you are a woman in the trenches at Climb or in the real estate industry, reach out and let us help tell your story. You can do this easily by getting involved in the WomanUP! movement and don't forget to check out Christine's story here. The first time I ever met Sue, I was immediately impressed with her confidence. This is the type of confidence that has been earned. Earned from years of hard work, experience, and commitment. She’s the kind of woman that is driven to not let herself and others down and knows the satisfaction of a job well done. This sensibility and emotional intelligence allow her to see the path before her clearly, and she can communicate it better than almost anyone I’ve ever met. Sue knows it's her season to give others a hand up. She’s had the benefit of people believing in her so uses her voice and power to return the favor. The strength of a diverse team is not lost on Sue and encourages her team to tap into their empathy to truly see each other. This is how business shifts into something more. Special shout out to next week's guest, Christine Kim, as we explore the idea of moving toward intentional action. Sue prods women to ask the following simple questions: What can I do to help this person? Why does this matter? And the answer is simple because we will not find equality in the workplace until we can formally and informally move toward change and empower the next step. Want to know more about Sue? Follow her and make a connection on Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram. And, be sure to check out her I Am WomanUP! story!
