Dante Evans has been in the transportation industry for 32 years, many of those driving a bus, and he sees a problem. People in rural communities don’t have access to transportation that many of us in more urban areas take for granted. There aren’t as many bus routes, ride shares aren’t as available, and it’s not always easy to get to work or get to the mall or even to buy groceries. Dante thinks he’s come up with the solution, a transportation app called WeMovv that will incorporate all modes of transportation – ride shares, buses, trains, and even how far you want to walk or ride your bike – to find the best way for a user to get to where they need to go. But this is the first time he’s pitched for capital. So can he explain the vision for his company well enough so that the investors want to take a ride with him? "When you look at the, the children's literature market today, you see large groups of children that are excluded. When you're not able to see yourself in a children's book, it has major consequences on your view of your own value, your self esteem, your place in society." Michael Vaggalis from Keepsake Tales is on a mission. He wants all children to be able to see themselves - literally - in children's books. It's an amazing purpose, but is it a scalable business model? Food scientist Michael Lloyd, CEO of Num Num Sauce, wants to change condiments to make them healthy. He started with his grandfather's recipes from 40 years ago, then developed a process to get more vegetables and less sodium into his line of Num Num Sauces, and STILL have them test great. The company has been pretty successful, now in around 50 Whole Foods stores. But Michael knows that in order to compete with the big boys - or at least get their attention enough for them to want to buy his company - he'll need some capital. On episode 4 of the Startup Stage Podcast, Michael is asking for $2.76 million to take that next step in his business. But will the investors believe in Michael's vision? To say that Sharon Delaney McCloud is superhuman might just be an understatement. Sharon is a mother, an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, advocate, TEDx Speaker, cancer survivor, author, communications expert, and entrepreneur. It’s near impossible to find something that Sharon has not conquered. About 15 years ago while Sharon was enjoying a successful career working as a television news anchor, she suddenly felt her life pulled in a different direction after the loss of her daughter to cancer. Sharon realized she wanted to change her focus and though she was not sure exactly what to do, she knew she wanted to have more control over her life and time with her family. Sharon started the process by asking herself “What am I good at?” and “What comes naturally to me?” She asked her friends those same questions and wanted to know what they saw in her. The common answer was that she was an amazing storyteller and could help others tell their own story. And with that, she set off on her own journey to put her gifts to use coaching clients and helping them learn how to communicate their own stories through media relations, message development, and digital marketing. Sharon will tell you that great storytelling requires creating a connection and showing uniqueness in your story. But in a noisy world, it can be difficult to connect and Sharon says that soft skills - which she prefers to call power skills - are paramount to forming a deep connection with your audience. She believes women naturally have these power skills which combine high emotional intelligence with intuition, authenticity and reading people and situations. And Sharon’s ability to use those power skills to quickly connect is something you feel the moment you meet her. What can our intentional community do to help Sharon? Sharon would love if we could support the organization she created to help families that suffer the loss of a child. After she lost her own daughter to cancer, Sharon was inspired to create Vilomah Voice to give a voice to grieving parents everywhere. This community provides a safe space for parents to talk about and celebrate the lives of their little ones that have passed away. You can support this amazing organization at Vilomah Voice. Also, make sure to follow Sharon on Facebook and check out her amazing TEDx talk in North Carolina. Let's be intentional together.

On this podcast from Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh North Carolina, we go beyond the obituary to get a better sense of who those people were who have passed on. What were some of the stories that define them? We’ll hear from the people who loved them because they are so much more than a one-page obituary. On today's episode, Sharon Delaney McCloud shares her baby daughter Macie's story, who tragically passed away from leukemia. Sharon’s grief journey started with anger, and it wasn’t until she found help with a group called Compassionate Friends that she was able to channel that energy into something much more positive to the community. And Sharon wants to help even more than she already has, and we talk about what she’s working on later in the conversation. You’ll also hear about how Macie’s family has been so blessed since her passing, it’s like there’s an angel looking down on them from heaven. Organizations Sharon mentions on the show: Compassionate Friends St. Baldrick's Foundation Me Fine Foundation Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Blog Post from Sharon about Macie -https://optionb.org/stories/option-b-is-turning-your-battle-scars-into-badges-of-honor-h1colxrlw Beyond the Obituary is hosted, edited, and produced by Jason Gillikin for Earfluence.
