How Women Leaders Can Avoid Burnout While Pursuing Success with Jinesha Jain, Senior Analyst (S10:Epi 291)

In this episode, Mary Sullivan, co-founder of Sweet but Fearless, talks with Jinesha Jain, Senior Analyst and TEDx Speaker, to explore the hidden pressures that often accompany ambition and achievement. Despite advancing quickly in her personal and professional life, Jinesha realized that success had come with an invisible cost when her mother observed that she no longer carried the same smile she once had. That moment became a turning point, prompting Jinesha to reevaluate what true success and well-being really mean. That realization led Jinesha to discover Bhramari pranayama, or "humming bee breath," a yogic breathing practice that helped her reduce stress, improve focus, and reconnect with herself. Together, Mary and Jinesha explore the importance of internal growth alongside external success, reminding women that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause, realign with what matters most, and care for ourselves while pursuing our goals.   ABOUT JINESHA JAIN:LinkedIn – Jinesha JainInstagram – Jinesha JainTEDx – The Power of Stillness: How One Breath Can Break Burnout ABOUT SWEET BUT FEARLESS: Website - Sweet but Fearless LinkedIn - Sweet but Fearless

"What are the stories that people can participate in and see themselves in? I think that's one of the keys that we can unlock when it comes to the whole climate narrative is telling stories that build the scaffolding blocks to a larger narrative that people want to be a part of, and we need to make it feel inevitable….The way that justice prevails, whether it's environmental justice or any kind of justice, I think it's that the leaders make it feel inevitable. And that's the climate movement's job. And I think we have every opportunity and ability to do that." Melissa Jun Rowley on Electric Ladies Podcast The movements have been struggling to connect with people to communicate the vital messages about protecting the planet and its inhabitants.  How can the climate and justice movements engage people again? Listen to Melissa Jun Rowleg, author of "Beyond the Mic Drop: How Stories Can Shift Culture, Power & Policy" and communications expert and journalist in this fascinating conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson.   You'll hear about: ●        How stories and narratives work to engage people of all stripes. ●        How emotion is key to connecting with people, helping them see themselves in the story ●        Tips on how to develop and tell stories and tie them into a narrative campaign to drive a positive message for the planet and its inhabitants ●        Plus, career advice, such as:   "You really need to start looking at yourself differently. You're looking at yourself as one thing, but your skills, your assets, your talents, your passion can be so many things to so many other people…Try to look outside yourself a bit.…It's very hard to see ourselves clearly, and I don't know if we ever really do…So, if you're able to, just talk to other people and say…'What do you see in my skillset and in my energy and in what I've accomplished so far and what I could do that maybe I'm not looking at?' Because it is so hard to see ourselves…(and) it's important to celebrate our wins." The Divorce and Separation Podcast

What happens when your relationship has ended, but neither of you can move out? This is something I am seeing more and more across Australia. Separation no longer always looks like one person packing a bag and moving into a new home. With the cost of living, rental shortages, mortgage pressure, children, leases, school zones and financial stress, many people are finding themselves separated but still living under the same roof. And while that might be the only practical option, it can also be emotionally exhausting. In this episode, I talk about the growing reality of separation under one roof and how you can move through it with more clarity, structure and support. This is not about pretending everything is fine. It is not about staying in the same relationship. It is about recognising that, for many people, physical separation is not immediately possible but emotional, practical, financial and legal separation can still begin. I explore how to create a same-roof separation plan, how to protect children from confusion and conflict, how to manage the emotional load, and why safety must always come first. This episode is for you if you are living in that difficult middle place: the relationship has ended, but the home, the mortgage, the lease, the children or the finances mean you are still sharing the same address. Resources: If you are in immediate danger, call 000. For domestic, family or sexual violence support in Australia, contact 1800RESPECT (1800737732). It is a national counselling, information and support service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For men using, or at risk of using, violent or controlling behaviour, the Men's Referral Service is available nationally on 1300 766 491. Separation under one roof is recognised in Australia, including by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia when couples have lived separately in the same home during the 12-month separation period required for divorce. The Court notes that extra information may be needed if you rely on that period when applying for divorce. Services Australia also recognises this situation and has a "Separated under one roof" form for people who are separated but still living with their ex-partner, so their relationship status can be assessed correctly for payments. So…being open to exploring… There's different ways to do things. There's a lot of different kinds of people that are trying to make a difference, and they're all intersecting in really creative ways. Welcome to the Personal Development Trailblazers Podcast! In today's episode, we're talking about how to avoid being overwhelmed with the power of creative thinking. Dr. André Walton is a successful entrepreneur having taken two of his inventions to become global leaders in their field. He is also a social psychologist and coach with a PhD focused on organizational creativity. He has spent over two decades researching how individuals and communities can harness creativity and resilience to overcome burnout and lead to positive change through creating environments conducive to creative thinking. Andre is a TEDx Speaker, International Best-Selling author (of Creative Thinking: A coach's perspective) and keynote speaker (including at the 2,000 attendee Marconi Institute of Creativity Conference – which was televised). His concept of Spherical Thinking™ relates to the imbalance between the creative thinking that we all had as young children and the more analytical cognitive style developed as adults. This imbalance can exacerbate anxiety and burnout, for which creative thinking provides a swift resolution while increasing resilience, emotional intelligence and happiness! As Visiting Professor of Creativity and Entrepreneurship at Newport Business School, he created executive programs and workshops for leading organizations including The Smithsonian, Virgin Group, Lloyds Bank, and the Welsh Government. His unconventional journey includes building concrete boats in Greece, teaching scuba diving, and developing a boutique resort and Michelin-star-nominated restaurant in Portugal.Connect with Andre Here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/plan4change/www.plan4change.orgGrab the freebie here: https://theburnoutfoundation.co/free-resource-the-2-night-sleep-recovery-plan===================================If you enjoyed this episode, remember to hit the like button and subscribe. Today Heidi interviewed Nichelle Sublett, Fertility Coach and founder of Start Asking Fertility, a coaching program for individuals and couples walking through a fertility journey. Here is a little more about Nichelle Sublett and this episode. In Nichelle Sublett's words: "I'd like to discuss why I became a fertility coach, the services I offer, and why working with me will help people feel empowered, supported, and confident while navigating their fertility journey—whether that means trying to conceive naturally, undergoing treatments like IVF, or exploring alternative paths to parenthood.. I want the listeners to truly understand the benefit and value of working with a fertility coach when trying to conceive, and that it's quite different from traditional CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I am happy to give updates on my current life and how going through infertility has shaped me as a mother to my two kids. As a fertility coach, I help singles and couples thrive, rather than just survive their unique fertility journeys. I work with clients for a minimum of 8 weeks, and give them emotional support, help them identify lifestyle changes, educate them on holistic options, assist with treatment decisions, help them identify triggers, give them tangible coping strategies, help them build resilience, and prepare them for doctor's appointments. I provide 1:1, confidential coaching sessions to provide extra support, while helping them find connection and make informed decisions. My mantra is to empathize, educate, and empower."   3 Key takeaways from the podcast that listeners will learn today: You don't have to navigate infertility alone. Infertility is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but support is available. A fertility coach provides emotional, mental, and strategic guidance to help you feel empowered and in control. Listeners will learn why fertility coaching is different from traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Fertility journeys are unique, and the support should be unique too.   3 Keywords that people would want to search when looking for content that you would provide in this episode: IVF journey Fertility coaching Infertility support   Favorite baby product or new motherhood product? It's easy to mistake awareness for action and anxiety for accountability. Even when we take action, it's easy to spiral into "this alone will not solve the problem." This episode is for the fighters. The ones who feel the weight of what's happening in the world and refuse to look away, whether you're building a company, working in foodtech, healthtech, femmetech, media, or simply trying to live in a way that reflects what you believe to lead systemic change. Lia Carlucci, a serial entrepreneur + founder of Food Campus Berlin, shares what systemic change looks like in foodtech / innovation. She grounds us in the science about what moves the needle on our food system. She'll spark a conversation at your dinner table about the habits around consumption we've normalized, and what they're costing us, not just environmentally, but energetically.  This episode will show you >how to hold the urgency without drowning in it. >climate anxiety → climate action >anti-hustle but pro-impact, (how to actually be in your impact-era !) >how to build community, over competition, and actually have values-led impact >how to convert what feels like helplessness into what Lia calls constructive adrenaline–turning the problem you care most about into the thing you choose to build toward. We face daunting challenges as a collective. But the path through them is not heroic isolation, it's intersection between the scientist, the corporate innovator, the entrepreneur, the policymaker and investors. That starts much closer to home than we think: Our mindset and ability to widen our circle of influence. We increase our circle of influence by collaborating with others. With those who will meet your urgency with their own, and help you make an impact in the way that is most authentic to you.

This episode delves into the concept of "living loss," a term encountered in Dr. Lucy Hone's book, How Will I Ever Get Through This. I share insights on how separation and divorce can feel like a profound loss, even when life continues around you. I discuss the emotional and practical challenges that arise during this difficult time, emphasising that the grief experienced is not just about the end of a relationship but also about the loss of a future, identity, and the life you envisioned.  I give you practical sugestions on how to navigate the early days of separation, including the importance of focusing on small, manageable steps and creating a sense of steadiness in your daily life.  Key Takeaways: Living loss is an ongoing experience that affects every aspect of your life during separation. It's normal to feel a mix of emotions, including grief, relief, and confusion. Focus on what you need today rather than trying to solve everything at once. In this powerful episode of the Dead America Podcast, host Ed Watters speaks with Garret Biss, retired Marine Corps pilot, recovery coach, TEDx speaker, and advocate for veterans navigating the difficult transition from military to civilian life. Garret brings clarity to the often misunderstood crisis facing veterans today, explaining why the true veteran death toll may reach 44 per day when accounting for overdoses, high risk behaviors, and indirect self harm rooted in emotional pain. Garret describes the unspoken trauma of transition, where the loss of identity, belonging, purpose, and meaning can be as destabilizing as combat itself. He explains how meaning increases a person's capacity to endure suffering—and how its absence can leave veterans vulnerable to depression, addiction, and emotional numbing. The conversation explores the civilian–veteran disconnect, nonprofit messaging that unintentionally labels veterans as “broken,” and military cultural norms that discourage help seeking by glorifying endurance and comparison. "If there are people who are willing to talk to you about it, the first thing you got to do is listen….I grew up in a very rural area and it's very conservative also. And when I go home, I don't talk about climate change. I do talk about what's going on with hunting season. 'Oh, there's no deer this year. Why do you think that is? Tell me about the rain'….It is again about that pivoting and you have to understand what's important to the people you're talking to… I might say, 'I just upgraded my mom's generator. It's great because with all the outages we're having out here, now she can get electricity and I know your husband's been sick, that could be something that could be really beneficial for you.' I do not mention climate change…I am putting out ideas that are going to save somebody's life, I'm responding to the situation of the people that I'm speaking with." Allison Agsten on Electric Ladies Podcast How do we keep people safe and sound in the face of ferocious weather, wildfires and floods, especially when they wince at the words "climate change"? Make it real for their world. How? Listen to Allison Agsten, Director of the Center for Climate Journalism and Communications at the University of Southern California in this fascinating conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson. She also curates art at the intersection of art and climate at the Wrigley Marine Science Center.   You'll hear about: How to keep people safe with adaptation strategies without talking about climate change. How art and climate intersect and how it helps people stay safe. How to combat disinformation and misinformation…and so much more Plus, career advice, such as: "When I talk to women who are at some point in their careers and they're thinking of joining our sustainability communicator cohort, they always say to me, I just don't know if my skills are translatable. Yeah, they are. I can help you think about the language…It's scary because I've done it myself. I've made a number of career pivots, but to me, even scarier is not taking that chance and having the opportunity to feel really good about the work you do every day….I sleep well at night because I know that I used the skills that I have to do the thing that I think is most important." If there's one thing I love it is raw, real, uncensored TRUTH. My amazing guest this week, Candi Rose, has that in spades and needless to say, our conversation is incredible. Candi Rose is a TEDx Speaker, Keynote Speaker, and the author of NAKED, known for her powerful, truth-centered storytelling that helps women reclaim their confidence, identity, and freedom. Her book, NAKED, is an unflinching true story that reveals what truly happens behind closed doors when no one is watching. It uncovers the parts we desperately try to hide out of the fear of rejection and judgment from others. I loved reading this book, it is a WILD, exciting ride with pure, authentic storytelling and shocking twists and turns that keep you enthralled. And Candi lived it! Getting to hash it all out together on the show was such a treat, refreshing, and fun! On this guest episode, Candi dives into her story and the many defeats before her success. Including her & I taking some time to share our experiences of bullying and the significant repercussions it can have mentally and emotionally. Candi elaborates on the unique themes and events from her book like getting drawn into the world of money, drugs, & strip clubs to being arrested, going to jail, and losing everything. The things that Candi has bounced back from are truly the stuff of heroes, which is exactly what she is! Candi has also graced the stage of TedX and many other public speaking forums where she shines. Be sure to check out all her links below! BIO:After building a highly successful career as a real estate investor, flipping hundreds of homes and creating financial independence, Candi Rose made a bold decision to step away from what looked like success on paper to pursue what felt like purpose in her spirit. She followed a calling to help women break free from the past, stop hiding their truth, and move forward with clarity, resilience, and faith. As a survivor of domestic violence, Candi brings a rare combination of strength, compassion, and credibility to every conversation. She speaks from lived experience, not theory, offering insight into how women can rebuild self-trust, heal their relationship with themselves, and create a life rooted in honesty and personal responsibility. Candi's work is grounded, practical, and empowering. Her goal is never just to inspire, but to equip. Every audience walks away with clear, actionable takeaways they can apply immediately to create real, lasting change in their lives. Her message is simple, but transformative: when women stop hiding, everything changes. By exposing the toxic shame that Candi and so many others have endured, NAKED creates a powerful message of hope, healing, connection and compassion for anyone struggling in silence and feeling isolated.Links:TEDX TALK, https://youtu.be/AApYIyGW6YQ?si=1_8ixnrxvE-Ix3yEhttps://www.candirose.com/speakerpagehttps://www.candirose.com/

What if the strongest leadership lessons for building the future were waiting for us on the front porch of our past?   In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Shanita Akintonde to talk about her book The Front Porch Leader and the deeper leadership lessons it offers for business builders, marketers, and mentors. We explored the importance of knowing where we come from, practicing discernment about who we invite into our lives and businesses, and raising up the next generation of leaders with both courage and grace.   Shanita also shared powerful insights on intentional marketing, understanding the true business you are in, and why some of the best leaders are often the quietest people in the room. This conversation is a heartfelt reminder that leadership is rooted in love, legacy, and the choices we make about who and what we let through the door. Here are the highlights: ● Leadership begins with roots. Shanita shared why understanding our history and honoring the foundation laid by those before us is essential to building a meaningful future. ● Discernment matters. We talked about the “front porch” mindset, recognizing that not everyone belongs inside your inner circle, your home, or your business. ● Great leaders are not always the loudest. Shanita explained why she often sees the most leadership potential in the quieter people who may be overlooked by others. ● Marketing should solve a real problem. Shanita emphasized that true content and brand strategy start with understanding your audience and knowing the real business you are in. ● The next generation needs grace and guidance. We discussed why emerging leaders need mentors who can support their boldness without dimming their courage.   About the guest:   Shanita Baraka Akintonde is an author, TEDx speaker, storyteller, and President of ShanitaSpeaks LLC. A marketing professor for more than two decades, Professor Akintonde has inspired thousands of students and professionals through her dynamic approach to communication, leadership, and personal brand strategy.   She is an entrepreneur and contributor to Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, and The Chicago Defender. She also serves as Chair of the Board of Governors for The Metropolitan.   Her work centers on the idea that the most powerful leadership lessons often begin in the most humble spaces—including the front porch.   Connect with Shanita:   Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/marketing-insights/id1378417469 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shanitaakintonde/ Instagram: @Shanita_BarakaMama Twitter: @_ShanitaSpeaks TEDx Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O6xmobZTUw     Connect with Allison: Feedspot has named Disruptive CEO Nation as one of the Top 25 CEO Podcasts on the web. Megan Pater on Electric Ladies Podcast Nonprofits and mission focused small businesses are facing historic funding threats at the moment due mostly to massive cuts in federal funding under the Trump administration and Republican-led Congress and related political pressures. "Healthcare Without Harm is more of an advocacy organization that works with clinicians and other healthcare workers to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare and pollution as well as climate impacts. And then Practice Greenhealth advises hospitals on how to get there and they do this awards process…(which is) about having people aware of all these different metrics that impact your operational sustainability…(and) raise awareness among the people who are running the hospital and leadership about how they're using water, food waste, where they're buying their food from, their waste hauling costs and the type of waste they're throwing away, their…carbon emissions…and guides." Dr. Anna Goldman on Electric Ladies Podcast "The climate crisis poses a critical threat to health systems and populations globally with projections of 14.5 million preventable deaths and 1.1 trillion in healthcare costs by 2050," the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine said. How can hospitals care for patients and staff  24/7 every day while also reducing its own carbon footprint and stay safe in extreme weather events? Listen to Dr. Katherine Gergen-Barnett and Dr. Anna Goldman of Boston Medical Center in this fascinating conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson. You'll hear about: ●        Their creative initiatives and systems to reduce food waste, feed patients and staff better, and reduce energy and water consumption, CO2 emissions, and waste. ●        How state policies directly affect hospitals and communities and can support systems change, even regardless of federal policies. ●        What Practice Greenhealth is and how it's helping BMC and other medical centers manage their unique challenges and reduce their environmental impact and costs. ●        Plus, career advice, such as: "You can do it all, but you don't have to do it all at once.…Enjoy each chapter. There are parts where I've absolutely receded based on what matters most. Recently when my father was ill and dying, I needed to step away from some of my career pulls to say, this is what matters to me….Try as best as you can not to be fear-driven. I think we are so driven by fear that we're never going to be enough, that we aren't going to contribute enough….(Y)ou actually are enough just as you are, right? Take this day, do what you can. Impact the people around you.…Become partners in your career with unlikely people, people who don't think like you, people who aren't doing the same career as you. You'll get a lot more joy out of, I think, your career because of the cross-pollination." The Mindset Experience

Aaron Golub is a professional speaker, entrepreneur, and leadership consultant who made history as the first legally blind Division I athlete to play in a college football game while competing at Tulane University, where he was later named team captain and went on to become an NFL free agent. Born legally blind, Aaron learned early that success requires a different relationship with adversity. Instead of focusing on what he couldn't control, he built his mindset around maximizing what he could. His journey reflects a powerful truth: when you commit to doing what others won't, you give yourself the opportunity to achieve what others can't. Rather than viewing his blindness as a limitation, Aaron now sees it as one of his greatest advantages. His story challenges how we think about setbacks and reminds us that life doesn't just happen to us — often, it happens for us. Today, Aaron works with organizations, teams, and leaders to build resilient cultures and leadership strategies that thrive in adversity. His work has been featured on major platforms including Good Morning America, CBS, NBC, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, NPR, and Entrepreneur. As the title of his TEDx talk suggests, Aaron Golub is truly a Diamond in his Disadvantage. In this conversation, we explore how perspective, discipline, and ownership of the controllables can transform adversity into opportunity. @aaronjgolub

Ever feel like life is moving so fast you barely know yourself anymore? That was me last week, scrolling through emails, thinking about my next move, and realizing I haven't hit pause to really check in with my own gut in ages. That's exactly why I was so pumped to sit down with Julie Reisler on The Happy Hustle Podcast. If you're a high performer trying to navigate success without losing yourself, this conversation is gold. Julie is a HeartLed Intuitive Guide, two-time Tech-X speaker, host of the USU podcast, board-certified master coach, faculty member at Georgetown University, and founder of the Intuitive Life Designer Coach Academy. She helps purpose-driven leaders trust their intuition and create success that feels aligned, fulfilling, and sustainable. On top of that, she's a mother, wife, and a Happy Hustler just like the rest of us, juggling multiple roles. Her book, Getting a PhD in You, dives deep into self-discovery and learning to make decisions from your truest sense. In this episode, Julie and I explored how to understand yourself better, honor your present, and navigate life's big decisions from intuition instead of stress. We also went down some fun rabbit holes about acting, modeling, and how even unexpected experiences in life can shape your clarity and confidence. This episode matters because it's a reminder that knowing yourself isn't just self-indulgent—it's essential for building a life and career that truly works for you. Here are a few takeaways from our conversation that you can start applying today: Your past is your fertilizer. Julie calls it compost. The struggles and challenges you've faced aren't just bumps in the road—they're material you can use to grow wisdom, clarity, and confidence. Honor the present. No matter where you are in life, give yourself grace. Celebrate small wins, acknowledge your efforts, and be fully present before moving to the next goal. Direction is everything. Like an archer aiming at a target, clarity about where you want to go ensures your actions are aligned and effective. Without a clear aim, you risk being reactive instead of proactive. Intuition is built-in. Everyone has access to guidance from within, but most of us haven't practiced listening to it. Start with meditation, grounding walks, or simple awareness exercises to tap into your inner compass. Curiosity and grace keep you learning. When you approach life with curiosity instead of judgment and give yourself grace for mistakes, you open up space to learn, grow, and make better decisions. If you want to dive deeper and actually start getting a PhD in you, you've got to hear the full episode. Julie drops actionable strategies, personal stories, and exercises you can start today to create clarity and alignment in your life. Listen to the full episode now at caryjack.com/podcastin.
