    Derek worked for over 19+ years for the lifestyle clothing brand Volcom, where he worked his way up from receptionist to VP of Global Sustainability. Like many, Derek worked in the restaurant industry, which taught him life lessons he reflects on to this day. He is a University of California at Irvine alumni, where he graduated with his B.A. of Arts and M.B.A. of Business.  At some point during his career, the question arose of why we are still doing business the old way and not prioritize the balance between people, planet, and profit.
