A marathon legislative session this week in Columbus produced several measures that we'll be unpacking here to begin the show. We start with what didn't get done: new rules for data centers. That legislation went off the rails over tax abatement. Data centers currently receive a 100% sales tax exemption. Proposed legislation would have reduced that tax break to between 50% and 75%. But many lawmakers, responding to concerns from constituents, say the industry should receive no exemption at all. Property tax relief remains a priority for Ohioans and lawmakers took action during their marathon session to provide help qualifying senior and disabled homeowners. More than 700,000 Homestead Exemption recipients will receive a nearly $500 credit toward their tax bill in January. Voters will decide whether to put photo-identification requirements for in-person voters – already a law in Ohio – into the constitution after lawmakers approved a constitutional amendment for the fall ballot. In a separate measure lawmakers sent to the governor a bill that extends voter ID to those casting votes by absentee/mail-in ballot. Ohio Republicans who say they are concerned about fraud in Medicaid in Ohio passed new regulations but first stripped out a provision that would have denied funding for those who care for sick family members. That provision had sparked spirited protests at the Statehouse. The Cleveland Clinic agreed to a deal with the Department of Justice this week that will end gender-affirming care for minors for at least the next 20 years. Prompted by an investigation into billing irregularities for such care, the agreement would remain in effect even if the current state law prohibiting gender-affirming care would be overturned. The MetroHealth System will not seek recertification of its Level 2 pediatric trauma center in 2027, though it will still treat children through its broader Level 1 trauma center for adults which also can treat minors. It will transfer pediatric cases to University Hospitals, which runs the region's only Level 1 pediatric trauma center, saying it's better for the broader system not to duplicate efforts. We will discuss these topics and the rest of the week's news on the “Sound of Ideas Reporters Roundtable.” Guests:- Abbey Marshall, Local Government Reporter, Ideastream Public Media- Conor Morris, Education Reporter, Ideastream Public Media- Karen Kasler, Bureau Chief, Ideastream Statehouse News Bureau

Send us Fan MailTGTPTU's good ol' boys continue their binge with another director-hack four-pack, this time with that pilsner of directors, Richie Cunningham himself (Ron Howard) as we funnel a second watery intoxicant down our gullets and try not to puke with HILLBILLY ELEGY (2020). Labeled a drama/comedy, this Netflix original is light on the latter, despite the normally exceptional screenwriter Vanessa Taylor being credited with the dramatization/adaptation of the 2016 autobiographical bestseller by the couch-copulating and at the time relatively unknown, already Peter Thiel-influenced, yet-to-be politician J. D. Vance. And also despite being lensed by pod-fav Maryse Alberti both initially and last discussed during Season 11's The Wrestler when Aronofsky took a break from Libatique as cinematographer (S11, E2, Airdate 2/17/24). Set primarily in two timelines (though no promises that a flashback did not have its own flashback or flashforward within), in one storyline the middle-school-aged J. D. spends most of his time in Ohio (FYI: Ohio is not part of Appalachia) with his manic mother before her mother (his grandmother) takes him as her charge and forces him to get some learning. The second timeline occurs over a few days as college-aged J. D. is a fish out of water at fancy, multi-fork dinner functions and must lean on his fiancée and an unlimited minutes cell phone plan to navigate the high society waters of Yale Law School (where she also attends). These two timelines thematically converge when J. D. must return to his Ohioan roots to confront his mother's drug addiction, maxing out credit cards for gasoline and treatment, and teaching us a lesson that need-based college handouts and credit card debt are terrible things for other poor folks but if you're the protagonist of a Ron Howard, triple Golden Raspberry nominated film, they're what you need to be a best-selling writer and presidential lapdog. We discuss the surge in data centers and why some Ohioans are pushing back.
Our guest is Ken Schneck, the founder and editor of the Buckeye Flame, a statewide LGBTQ+ news site in Ohio. We discuss how the publication began in 2020 and why he felt there needed to be a dedicated source covering LGBTQ+ issues across Ohio. The mission of the Buckeye Flame is to amplify LGBTQ+ Ohioans and support civic engagement. It encourages readers to submit local stories, including from rural parts of the state, and how that approach has expanded the range of reporting they receive. They also want people to freely share the articles with others. The main reason we produced this episode was to talk about the recent coverage of House Bill 249, the proposed drag ban in Ohio. We discuss testimony from LGBTQ+ people who appeared before the Ohio House Judiciary Committee, including the tense exchange between Representative Josh Williams and witnesses who spoke against the bill. We focus on how the hearing affected people testifying from their lived experience and professional expertise.House Bill 249 not only connects to drag performances but also to transgender people being in public spaces. We discuss concerns raised in the hearing about vague legal language, enforcement, and the possibility of chilling speech and discouraging public expression. We also talk about the history and future of LGBTQ+ media in Ohio and the publication's efforts to expand coverage of LGBTQ+ Ohioans of color.01:00 Origins of The Buckeye Flame and mission05:54 When Queer Ohioans Confronted the Man Trying to Erase Them10:19 Two Clips from the HB 249 hearing on 03/18/202629:10 Main Interview resumesFull show notes & Links UsedSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our merch
The lid has been blown off a massive Medicaid fraud scheme that is bleeding Ohio taxpayers dry. In this week's Narrative podcast, Attorney General Dave Yost shares how his investigation had already uncovered criminals who billed for intensive care while they were actually competing in figure-skating competitions abroad or traveling on your dime, before the Daily Wire's exposé was published. Yet, even as the indictments roll in, a major shift is coming to the Attorney General’s office! After years of sparring with big-money industries and defending Ohio’s laws in court, Dave Yost has announced he is joining the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) as Vice President for Strategic Policy and Innovation. Tune in to hear about the "Wild West" of unregulated gambling, the fight for school choice, and why Ohio's AG is taking his legal expertise to the largest Christian law firm in the world. You don't want to miss this eye-opening episode! More About Attorney General Dave Yost Dave Yost was re-elected as Ohio’s 51st attorney general on November 8, 2022, receiving more votes than any other attorney general in the state’s history. During his first term as the state’s chief legal officer, he quickly gained a national reputation as a fearless advocate for the rule of law — or, as he puts it, “the same rules for everybody.” Yost’s goal is to “do big good” for the people of Ohio by protecting consumers, rooting out corruption, defending the environment, ensuring an open and competitive marketplace, and fulfilling the many other duties of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Yost began his public-service career as Delaware County auditor, later winning election as that county’s prosecutor. From 2011 through 2018, he served as Ohio’s auditor of state and, in January 2019, began his first term as attorney general. Yost earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and law degree from Capital University. He and his wife, Darlene, live in Franklin County; they have three grown children and five grandchildren. In episode 177, we sit down with Liz Schmidt, the Executive Committee Co-Chair of Ohio Equal Rights, to talk about the campaign to amend Ohio's constitution and make it the strongest equal rights framework in the nation.Ohio's constitution offers no equal rights protections for residents. There are no protections from government discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or other attributes. Marriage equality rests only on federal guarantees that could be reversed. Ohio Equal Rights is pursuing two citizen-led ballot amendments to change that, the Ohio Equal Rights Amendment and The Ohio Right to Marry Amendment, potentially making Ohio home to the most comprehensive state equal rights framework in the nation. This week, CNN political commentator Scott Jennings delivers a direct indictment of a radical anti-American movement that has hijacked traditional liberal politics. This movement replaces paychecks with pronouns and border security with radicalism. Because the far Left continues to embrace this extreme, increasingly violent version of liberalism, we are now in a fight for the survival of Western civilization. CCV President Aaron Baer and US Senator Jon Husted join the conversation to expose the ongoing destruction that liberal politics have pushed on America, including: A poverty trap carefully constructed to punish work and destroy the nuclear family. Radical activists attempting to force boys into girls' locker rooms and bathrooms. American citizens fleeing blue-state chaos for the sanity of red-state leadership. Threats from the Iranian regime are downplayed, even though they have been the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. The false belief that rights come from a government script or a judge rather than from God. Listen today to hear why the survival of the American experiment depends on a relentless defense of the truth. More About Scott Jennings Scott Jennings is a prominent conservative political commentator on CNN, known for his sharp insights and thought-provoking analysis. Dubbed “The Black Sheep of CNN” by the Daily Mail and “Lonely Scott” by Bill Maher for his engaging nightly debates, Jennings has become a fixture of CNN’s election and major event coverage. As the network's senior conservative commentator, Scott brings a unique perspective, blending humor and candor grounded in his rural American roots, to deliver compelling arguments and lively discussions on the news of the day. Scott’s career spans decades at the intersection of politics, media, and academia. A trusted advisor on four presidential campaigns, he served as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush and played pivotal roles in high-profile Senate and congressional races. His expertise in political strategy has made him a respected analyst on CNN and a prolific writer featured in publications like The LA Times and Gannett. Beyond the campaign trail, Scott has taught at Harvard’s Kennedy School, shaping the next generation of public servants. He is also a founding partner of RunSwitch Public Relations, Kentucky’s largest PR and public affairs firm. More About Senator Jon Husted Jon Husted began serving Ohioans in the US Senate in January 2025. For more than two decades, the people of Ohio have trusted him to fight for their jobs, values, and families. Husted started his life in a foster home before his loving parents, Jim and Judy, adopted him. He is the oldest of three children and was raised in northwest Ohio’s Williams County. The small community instilled in him the importance of faith, family, and hard work, which remain the foundation of his public service. In 2000, Husted won the election to the Ohio House of Representatives. He later was elected unanimously to lead the chamber as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2009. As Speaker, Husted expanded educational freedom for Ohio children through the creation of the EdChoice Scholarship. Husted followed that with service in the Ohio State Senate until becoming the secretary of state in 2011. Husted’s two successful terms in that role led Ohioans to elect him lieutenant governor, where he championed common-sense solutions to make state government work better for its citizens while lowering costs. Of all his responsibilities, Sen. Husted considers being a loving husband, father, and grandfather the most important. He and his wife, Tina, raised their three children, Alex, Kylie, and Katie, in Ohio, and make their home in Columbus. The Husteds became grandparents to Mae in 2023 and are active members of Riverside Church.
In episode 176, we are finally talking about DATA CENTERS. Ohio is in the middle of a data center boom. Google, Amazon, Meta, and dozens of other tech giants are building massive facilities across the state — particularly in Central Ohio — drawn by cheap land, fiber infrastructure, and generous tax breaks from our Statehouse. While these companies are selling the story of jobs and economic growth, a report from Innovation Ohio raises serious questions about who is really footing the bill. The answer unfortunately, is all of us.Joining us today is Michael McGovern, President and CEO of Innovation Ohio, the organization behind that report. Innovation Ohio is Ohio's Progressive politics and policy hub. It's an organization that bridges advocacy, activism, and policymaking in Ohio. By building coalitions, conducting research, and coordinating messaging campaigns, they tackle critical issues at the local, state, and federal levels. Their work focuses on improving the lives of Ohio workers and families, creating opportunities for all Ohioans, and strengthening communities from the ground up.And today with Michael, we're going to dig into what's actually happening to Ohio's electric grid, why the average Ohio family could be looking at roughly $70 more on their monthly power bill by 2028, and what state lawmakers are (and aren't) doing about it. This is a conversation every Ohioan needs to hear.Resources: * Innovation Ohio* Report - Data Centers, Ohio's Electric Grid, and Your Power Bill* Report - The Power Plant Next Door: How a Little-Known Ohio Law Is Silencing Local Communities* Ohio House Bill 706* Ohio House Bill 695We're bringing together digital creators from across the state to build a powerful digital organizing network called Ohio Creators for Progress. Dan talks with Dr. Zach Rossfeld, who is running for State Representative in the 7th House district. A hospice and palliative care physician, Zach talks about what his experience as both a physician and at the Ohio Department of Medicaid has taught him about what Ohio needs on the policy level, not only health policy, but housing, education, and beyond. Above all, Rossfeld calls for a radical recentering in the Statehouse of Ohioans' immediate needs even as we build longer term capacity. On this episode of Purple Political Breakdown, host Radell Lewis sits down with Dr. Bryan Hambley, Cincinnati leukemia physician and Democratic candidate for Ohio Secretary of State in the May 5, 2026 primary. Bryan grew up on a small family farm, trained as a blood cancer doctor at UC Health, and launched his outsider campaign in January 2025, well before the filing deadline, because he has watched his patients and Ohio communities suffer under a broken, gerrymandered democracy. Radell and Bryan go deep on the three core responsibilities of the Secretary of State: drawing fair districts, writing honest ballot language, and setting voting policies that work for every Ohioan. Bryan lays out why he believes gerrymandering is wrong no matter which party does it, how the 2023 unconstitutional maps carved Lincoln Heights out of Cincinnati's congressional district, and why Ohio needs an independent redistricting commission similar to the ones already working in Idaho and Michigan. He breaks down how current Secretary of State Frank LaRose used intentionally misleading ballot language to defeat the 2024 redistricting amendment, why he handed over the last four digits of every Ohio voter's Social Security number to the Department of Justice, and why Ohio made a mistake pulling out of the ERIC voter roll system. The conversation also covers the rising musical chairs problem with term-limited Republicans like Treasurer Robert Sprague hopping offices, the threat of a Vivek Ramaswamy governorship, corporate PAC money as a cancer on Ohio's democracy, same-day and automatic voter registration, making Election Day a holiday, ranked choice voting in Lakewood and Cleveland Heights, business filing fee reform (proposing a drop from $99 to $75), and Bryan's position on universal, simple, affordable healthcare for Ohioans. Whether you are tracking the 2026 Ohio midterms, trying to understand the Democratic primary matchup between Bryan Hambley and former House Minority Leader Allison Russo, or just want a straightforward explainer on how the Secretary of State shapes elections in Ohio, this episode gives you what you need to cast an informed vote on May 5. Radell Lewis breaks down one of Ohio's most important and overlooked races: the 2026 Secretary of State election. With Frank LaRose term-limited out and running for auditor, five candidates across three party primaries are competing to control how Ohioans vote, how businesses get registered, and how ballot language gets written. Radell goes candidate by candidate through Republican primary frontrunner Robert Sprague (Ohio's current treasurer who dropped out of the governor's race in under three weeks to endorse Vivek Ramaswamy), his challenger Marcell Strbich (a retired Air Force intelligence officer pushing one of the most aggressive election security platforms in the country), Democratic establishment pick Allison Russo (the former House Minority Leader facing scrutiny over her 2023 redistricting vote and an ongoing employment discrimination lawsuit), Democratic outsider Bryan Hambley (a cancer doctor from Warren County running on ending gerrymandering with zero corporate PAC money), and Libertarian candidate Tom Pruss (a Toledo small business owner campaigning for equal ballot access). Radell also covers Trump's executive order on mail voting and what it means for Ohio, the FirstEnergy bribery mistrial that stunned the state, Ohio officials opening thousands of acres of public land to fracking, and the broader 2026 statewide landscape where every executive office is turning over. Then Radell sits down with independent gubernatorial candidate Tim Grady for a deep conversation about what it takes to run outside the two-party system in Ohio, why independent voters are the largest voting bloc but have the least representation, the rise of populism on both sides, whether Democrats are capable of governing long term, and what a "radical centrist" vision for Ohio actually looks like. Whether you are tracking the Ohio primary election, researching Ohio 2026 candidates, or trying to understand Ohio election reform, voter registration deadlines, redistricting, gerrymandering, or the future of independent politics, this episode has you covered. Ohio voter registration for the May 5 primary closes April 6 and early voting starts April 7. The 2028 presidential campaign likely will start about a year from now, but Democrats are not waiting to take on a likely candidate: Ohioan and Vice President JD Vance.
In episode 171, we sit down with Zach Rossfeld, candidate for Ohio House District 7. As a practicing physician and former Ohio Medicaid official, Zach has seen firsthand what broken policy costs real people and he's done waiting for someone else to fix it. We talk healthcare, public schools, reproductive rights, and what gives him hope.Zach is a dad and a doctor who's running for quality, funded schools and for healthcare that puts people first. A lifelong Ohioan, he and his wife Kara are raising their two children (and puppy) in Clintonville. Dr. Rossfeld sees patients as an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at Ohio State and, until this campaign, had served as an Assistant Medical Director for Ohio Medicaid. He understands what it takes to be an effective policymaker and has a track record of shaping large programs to help everyday Ohioans. With his two young children in public school and his patients struggling to get the care they deserve, Dr. Rossfeld knows that we all deserve better. And that's why he's running for state representative: for the public good.Resources:* We Back Zach - Campaign Website* Donate to Zach's Campaign* FacebookWe're bringing together digital creators from across the state to build a powerful digital organizing network called Ohio Creators for Progress. What is going on in Ohio? In this episode of Purple Political Breakdown, host Radell Lewis breaks down the biggest stories coming out of the Ohio Statehouse heading into the 2026 midterm elections. President Trump is calling for an end to no-excuse mail-in voting nationwide, and Ohio officials from both parties are responding. The Ohio House is advancing new abortion restrictions under House Bill 347, testing the limits of the 2023 constitutional amendment that 57 percent of voters approved. Ohio's hemp and THC ban under Senate Bill 56 is now in effect after the referendum effort by Ohioans for Cannabis Choice fell short on signatures. The state is also facing potential SNAP cuts that could triple program costs if Ohio can't lower its federal error rate.Radell also dives deep into the 2026 Ohio Attorney General race, one of the most overlooked but consequential races on the ballot. With Dave Yost term-limited, Republican Keith Faber, Democrat John Kulewicz, and Democrat Elliot Forhan are all competing for the office. Radell explains what the Attorney General actually does, breaks down each candidate's platform, and covers the controversy surrounding Forhan's viral TikTok video and his history of disciplinary action in the Ohio House.Plus, rapid fire updates on the Ohio governor's race between Vivek Ramaswamy and Dr. Amy Acton, the ranked choice voting ban, Ohio's skyrocketing gas bills, the FirstEnergy bribery trial, AEP's push for nuclear power, a rejected $98 million solar farm, the drag show ban, vaccination opt-out legislation, and the property tax abolition movement.Ohio's May 5 primary is approaching fast. In this episode of The Narrative, Aaron, David, and Mike expose the radical left’s latest assault on children. David breaks down the chaos in the Ohio House, where activists in full drag regalia—backed by the entire Democrat caucus—demanded the "right" to perform in front of children. The hosts also call out the legacy media for its deceptive "experimental" labeling of life-saving abortion pill reversals and explore a massive legal hammer coming for Big Tech’s "addiction engineering" of our kids. Then, Senator Bernie Moreno and Attorney General Dave Yost offer profound reflections on the spiritual foundations of Ohio’s heritage. Sen. Moreno reminds us of John Adams' warning that our Constitution is wholly inadequate for anyone but a moral and religious people. Finally, AG Yost delivers a masterclass on Thomas Worthington, the "Father of Ohio," proving that a fearless, Christ-centered loyalty is the only reason for Ohio’s unique impact on the Republic.Tune in now or queue up your commute podcast! More about Senator Bernie Moreno Bernie Moreno was born in Bogota, Colombia. He moved to the United States with his family at age five and became an American citizen at age 18. Bernie purchased his first car dealership in 2005 and grew that one dealership into one of the largest dealership groups in America, eventually employing over 1,000 Ohioans. More recently, in 2016, Bernie recognized the value and transformational potential of blockchain technology, before it received mainstream attention, and moved much of his volunteer time and investment dollars into the space. Bernie believes that Ohioans deserve better than what they've gotten from Washington, and he will fight to better their lives in the United States Senate. More about Attorney General Dave Yost Dave Yost was re-elected as Ohio’s 51st attorney general on Nov. 8, 2022, receiving more votes than any other attorney general in the state’s history. During his first term as the state’s chief legal officer, he quickly gained a national reputation as a fearless advocate for the rule of law, or as he puts it, “the same rules for everybody.” Yost’s goal is to “do big good” for the people of Ohio by protecting consumers, rooting out corruption, defending the environment, ensuring an open and competitive marketplace, and fulfilling the many other duties of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Yost began his public-service career as Delaware County auditor, later winning election as that county’s prosecutor. From 2011 through 2018, he served as Ohio’s auditor of state and, in January 2019, began his first term as attorney general. Yost earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and his law degree from Capital University. He and his wife, Darlene, live in Franklin County; they have three grown children and five grandchildren. Want to Go Deeper? Radell Lewis sits down with Jerrad Christian, Democratic candidate for Ohio's 12th Congressional District, for a conversation about the issues hitting Ohioans hardest right now. From the gerrymandering compromise that reshaped Ohio's congressional map to the property tax crisis squeezing homeowners and retirees, no topic is off limits.Jerrad grew up in rural Appalachian Ohio in a working poor family where government programs were not abstract policy debates but the difference between eating and going hungry. He served in the U.S. Navy as a flight deck fueler during Operation Iraqi Freedom and later worked as a meteorologist and oceanographer. After becoming a father, he took a job as a janitor in a factory before teaching himself software engineering and building a career in tech. He is running for Congress because he refuses to hand his son a country hollowed out by corruption, cruelty, and short term thinking. In this episode, Radell and Jerrad break down universal healthcare and the single payer model, why Ohio's education funding has been ruled unconstitutional multiple times with no fix, how the school voucher system funnels public money to private institutions, the role of Citizens United and super PACs in buying political influence, congressional stock trading, Ohio's flat tax and who it really benefits, data center tax abatements draining local resources, and how to engage with MAGA voters without demonizing them.Whether you lean left, right, or somewhere in between, this conversation is about what it actually takes to represent working people in a system designed to keep them out.Learn more about Jerrad Christian's campaign: https://ChristianForOhio.comPurple Political Breakdown: Political Solutions Without Political Bias.Hosted by Radell LewisWebsite: purplepoliticalbreakdown.comContact: thetrendgoldandfaith@gmail.com#OhioPolitics #Midterms2026 #OH12 #PurplePolitics #UniversalHealthcare #GerrymanderingOhio #PropertyTaxes #SchoolVouchers #CitizensUnited #MoneyInPolitics #WorkingClassStandard Resource Links & RecommendationsThe following organizations and platforms represent valuable resources for balanced political discourse and democratic participation: PODCAST NETWORKCheck Out the Podcast Website: www.purplepoliticalbreakdown.comALIVE Podcast Network - Check out the ALIVE Network where you can catch a lot of great podcasts like my own, led by amazing Black voices. In episode 168, we chat with Jerrad Christian, Democrat running for Ohio's 12th Congressional District on a no-corporate-money, people-first platform. We get into healthcare, foreign policy, the economy, and what hope looks like when the stakes feel impossibly high. Jerrad Christian grew up in rural Ohio in a working-poor family where government programs and community weren't abstract policy debates; they were the difference between eating and not. He couch-surfed as a kid, watched his mom fight cancer with Medicare keeping her alive, and saw Social Security barely stretch far enough for the people in his life.Jerrad served in the U.S. Navy as a flight deck fueler on a carrier during Operation Iraqi Freedom and, later, a meteorologist and oceanographer. After getting out and becoming a father, he took a job as a janitor in a factory - now he's a software engineer. He's never been rich; he worked his way to where he is through a lot of work and a lot of luck. He want successes like his to be the rule, not the exception.Jerrad is running for office because he refuses to hand his son a country hollowed out by corruption, cruelty, and short-term thinking. He believes in clean water, honest government, working families, being a good human, and telling the truth even when it's uncomfortable. He doesn't worship politicians. He doesn't punch down. And he won't back away from a fight when the stakes are this high.Resources:* Jerrad Christian for Congress* Donate to Jerrad's Campaign* Social Media:* Instagram* Facebook* TikTok* YouTube* X/Twitter* ThreadsWe're bringing together digital creators from across the state to build a powerful digital organizing network called Ohio Creators for Progress. Is it possible to find points of agreement on some of the most heated and divisive issues in American politics? Can people who profoundly disagree sit down and learn from each other? The answers to both questions is an emphatic "yes!".In this episode we hear about the current work of the Citizens Commission on Immigration from its Director, Braver Angels co-founder, David Lapp. The goal of the Citizens Commission is to demonstrate to Congress and the nation that Americans with differing views on immigration can find common ground. The Commission works in a red/blue balanced way and includes Americans from all sides of the issue. Over the past two years, grassroots Americans and national experts and advocates of all sides of the immigration issue have met together."There have now been about 50 immigration events across the country," David tells us. "We can find some meaningful areas of agreement." Large majorities of participants from the left and right agree on the need for secure borders, and believe that businesses should face penalties for hiring undocumented workers. Some agreement was also found on a pathway to citizenship for "Dreamers" who came to the US as children. The Commission was launched after about 750 delegates at the 2024 Braver Angels National Convention voted to establish immigration as a Braver Angels priority issue. By the end of this year The Commission aims to hold one hundred grassroots events across the country, and eight National Roundtable meetings. The point of having a citizens commission on immigration speaks to what Abraham Lincoln said: "In America we're a government of the people, by the people, for the people", says David. "Our laws and our policies should reflect what we the ordinary people think."In our interview we also discuss what David has learned in his years of committed work with Braver Angels. If you want to get a sense of the heart and soul of this movement, it's well worth listening to him. Before helping to start Braver Angels, David spent several years interviewing working-class Ohioans about their life experiences and families. He lives with his wife, Amber, and their six children in South Lebanon, Ohio—the site of the first-ever Braver Angels workshop in December 2016. Hosted on Acast. In the second half of the first drop of “LIB” season 10, it's time to get serious. One feckless suitor is so indecisive he manages to fumble both of his lovely ladies. But the rest of our ebullient Ohioans sort out their love triangles, pop the question, respond with a hearty “let's go!”, and jet off to the group honeymoon in Cabo (or, in the case of one fortunate couple, a solo retreat in Malibu).
