Hosted by comedian Lulu Jovovich
What is up, listeners? It's been a month since the last episode of Ball Gag but not to worry, I'm back. I sit down this week to discuss what's been going on in my life for the past month, my current state of mind, and my goals for the future. I begin by relating my first headlining experience, my time as a featuring comic in Chicago, and an exciting upcoming show at the Hollywood Improv. I go into heavy detail regarding my thoughts on criticism and bullying, and how those necessarily make for better art and artists. I also talk about people's willingness to argue over the Internet and wrap up with a rare pop culture segment; my thoughts on the Chris Rock v. Will Smith fiasco at the Oscars. Deep and silly, as always! #ballgagpodcast lulucomedy.com Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/ e
Hello dear listeners! What a whirlwind of the past two weeks. This episode reflects that. I begin the podcast with some exciting news - I will be headlining at Mad House Comedy Club on Sunday, March 6th! I have a pretty revealing, excited discussion about the upcoming event. I incorporate my thoughts on the comedy community's traits as they relate to growth, e.g. judgments, expectations, and support. The episode takes a tonal turn (though not at all depressing) for the second half: here, I discuss the conflict in Ukraine and my family's ties to Kiev. I touch on geopolitics, my observations on reactions to the war, and how much war-content I've viewed online. While most of the episode is factual and lighthearted, I then go on a brief rant about the nation's milieu; particularly one group of people and the nauseating rhetoric they maintain. My take is not one I've heard too often and is a rare moment in which I actually speak on the socio-political sphere of the country. I wrap up with some thoughts on what happiness is but mainly, I can't wait to record the next episode. How much information time brings! Enjoy! #ballgagpodcast lulucomedy.com Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hi people! It's me, Lulu, back with another episode of Ball Gag. I can't believe this is only my second podcast of the year, but alas, bitches (me) stay busy. From the start of the episode to about the midway point, I relate two main points. The first: how happy and grateful I am to have so many comedy dreams coming true. The second: why the Super Bowl half time show meant so much to me. In this first half, I also discuss why I think friendship break-ups are more devastating than relationship break-ups, explore my childhood in a more unique way than before, and have an overall impassioned take on life. For most of the second half, I delve into another passion of mine: the band TOOL. While arguably a niche topic, I try to broaden the discussion by adding my thoughts on the state of rock music, the role of theatrics in concerts, and observations on rock/metal music fans. The last couple of minutes... Well, you'll see for yourself, but there's some introspection. AnYWay... I was very happy to record this episode and hope you like it as well. #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Helloooooo everybody and welcome back to another episode of BALL GAG. This week's session features the spectrum of my passion (yes, I do have emotions) in both positive and negative contexts. First, I express my excitement in recent concert news and my anticipation for seeing the band TOOL. I touch on why ye olde rock music means so much to me before discussing my most recent performance at the San Diego Laugh Factory and the foolishness that ensued. I also reflect on an old dating method I now can't believe I once practiced, explain how sometimes you can't get past juvenile prejudices (for me it's athletes using steroids), and navigate my feelings on using "mental health issues" as a crutch. I wrap up with small rants on oversharing, crossing boundaries, and respect. Short but sweet! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Happy New Year from Ball Gag! I really really really really was not expecting to have taken so much time off from the podcast, but here we are! This week, I sit down to recap what's been going on in my life during the hiatus. That includes trips, comedy, and two stints of illness. Regardless, I keep it fun and insightful. I first detail some social problems that arose in the month of December, my hatred of fake friends, and hosting a real friend at my home for nearly a week. I explain how the absence of another true friend has shed some insight into who I am as a person, and go into heavy detail about my developing thoughts on manifestation (yes, I made a vision board at the start of the year). The final bulk of the episode is all about comedy: my advancements, development, opportunities, and growing belief in my abilities. It's good to be back! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hello there! Is this going to become a biweekly podcast? I'm not sure, but it's looking like my schedule might make it so. Anyway, it's great to be back in my studio and discuss some of the latest problems, events, and loves that have been plaguing my mind. I start off this week's episode by relating some of the feedback on this podcast, vaguely addressing some comedy drama at both low and high levels, and explaining why accomplishments can add stress to your life. I get into a potentially controversial discussion of "canceled" celebrities and their tentative comebacks, and criticize mob mentality. I also go on a brief rant about acquaintances who have aesthetic-only Instagram accounts, offer my two cents on crowd crush and the Travis Scott concert situation, and lightly touch on the spirituality I experience when I'm inside beautiful homes. It's a weird one, but I'm happy to be here. Enjoy! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hi there! You may have noticed there was a small gap in Ball Gag episodes, but not to worry -- we're back this week. This episode is special to me because it's the first one I've recorded in several months where I felt a return to my usual, thoughtful self without forcing any discussion. I recount recent experiences with castings for TV and print, pat myself on the back for some home improvements, and explain reactions to when a child is more artistic- or scientifically-minded. I also engage in a passioned discussion about what's going on in my stand up world, such as the psychological reasons behind why I dress the way I do onstage, changes in my relationships to comics I admire, and how the experience of female comics differs from male comics. I relate a tale from an odd experience on a Sunday night full of shows, and wrap up with some analysis on everyone's favorite topic - FLIRTING. Don't miss this one! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hello and happy Thursday! It's time for another episode of BALL GAG! This week I cover a broad range of topics, from comedy to music to linguistics. I detail my experience at the San Diego Laugh Factory, how my peers reacted to that experience, and why I've been getting over certain insecurities. I also go on a brief rant about dream interpretation, realize why you need to know toxic people in order to create, and deliver some hot takes on the rock and roll music. I wrap up by comparing small town mentalities to big city culture. Enjoy the show! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Oh, hello! BALL GAG is back this week after a short break, and I'm ready to stir the pot. Specifically, I sit down to discuss in detail my thoughts on my comic peers. What does that entail? I relate my observations on various individuals and groups of open micers in terms of their ambition, talent, bitterness, world views, and desire for success. It's something I don't discuss directly with my friends and peers, but that I felt was important enough to get out there somewhere. Additionally, I talk about my upcoming date at the San Diego Laugh Factory, the realization of the best types of romantic relationships, and why it's bad for parents to idolize their kids. Really revealing a lot this week! Enjoy! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/laugh-fa... #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hello and good week to you! This week's episode of BALL GAG comes at a later hour, but rest assured -- the topics are still hot. I discuss my recent visit to Phoenix, Arizona, try to explain some recent sadness, and mock myself for some of my romantic choices. I also go over my disillusionment with holidays such as Halloween, my awareness of wealth as a child, and my frustration regarding "my type" of men. Perhaps the most interesting topic? The effects of birth control on women's ability to choose suitable mates. This week covers a lot, so let's get into it. #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hello listeners! I am back this week with another episode of my favorite podcast! We've got a range of topics on our hands with this one: death, comedy, plastic surgery, and everything in between. I start off with some closing remarks (is that appropriate?) on my dead comic friends and the major realization I came to regarding my own mortality and funeral plans. I reference Shakespeare's "salad days," question outdoor movie screenings in cemeteries, and mention the lasting bonds that I've made with certain friends. I also relate some fun stories at comedy shows in the past week, discuss the discomfort you feel when you make out-of-character decisions, and round out the episode with a brief rant on the over-use of cosmetic injections in young girls. Listen and learn! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
After a month-long gap, BALL GAG is back! I'm so happy to type those words! This week's episode starts off with some fun takes on my movie experience during the past few weeks. I talk about working on set in New Jersey, New York, and Texas, relive some highlights and lowlights with the cast and crew, and provide some unique opinions on the ~art~ of acting. On a more relatable level, I discuss human behavior and the brief fear I felt about being forgotten by my peers in Los Angeles. The second half of the episode gets a little more somber with dedications to two comic friends whose deaths shook me. I don't cry or anything, but I'm glad I took the time to honor their memories in the best way I could think to do. It's heavy stuff, but I get through it with fond memories and levity. Regardless, it's good to be back, baby! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
It's the last BALL GAG Thursday for a while! This week, I relive my experience performing at the Brea Improv, detail upcoming plans regarding all things Hollywood, and discuss my deep-rooted appreciation for encouragement. I also explain what happens when I get competitive (NSFW), why I'm bad at curating presents, and why I don't respond to online strangers. The most interesting part of the episode? I reflect on the impact of mental health awareness, its extremes, and posit that such extremes are the cause of an increase in weak-mindedness. Enjoy the show! ***The quote I was trying to reference*** "Hard times create strong men Strong men create good times Good times create weak men Weak men create hard times" #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Welcome back listeners! I may have lost some of you with the last episode, but I promise this one is a hell of a lot *spicier.* The main story? A wild night at the Comedy Store full of confrontation, nudity, and DRAMA. I also recall a creepy experience with a stranger at a grocery store, rationally discuss some disparities between men and women in comedy, and explain why - despite it all - I feel as though things are looking brighter. After a heated rant about passive aggression, I wrap up by encouraging people to have more romantic crushes. Episode 21 turned out to be wilder than I hoped. Enjoy the show! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Hello listeners, and welcome to another episode of BALL GAG! After a short hiatus, I am back this week to discuss all things personal and professional. I recap the details of my recent break up and the range of reflections surrounding it, as well as the delay of an acting role. I share my anxieties about the social requirements for success, explain an odd Covid interaction in my building's elevator, and discuss why even the most independent people need help from time to time. My mood remains rather heavy throughout, though peppered by moments of silliness and levity. Themes include codependence, needing support, needing people, and all the gray areas in between. Greetings listeners! Boy, are you in for a wild ride. This week's episode of BALL GAG is undoubtedly the most mystical and existential. I explain my experiences with something that resembles disassociation, try to figure out why time is such an elusive and ever-changing beast, and detail how this all relates to spirituality. I explicitly retell a story I never thought I'd share: the time I had what I can only describe as a vision. What? Yes, and I know how that sounds. Worry not, this episode also contains personal news regarding a new comedy hosting gig, musing on what pets actually think when we call their names, and an analysis of personalities that just want to watch the world burn. Listen to get deep! #ballgagpodcast Instagram: @ballgagpodast Lulu @lulujovovich Twitter: @ballgagpodcast @lulujovovich Music: Alex Gelinas IG: @alexjulyness Graphics: Daniel Ruczko IG: @danielruczko Website: https://solo.to/rusher/e
Oh! It's Thursday and we're coming in hot with another episode of BALL GAG. This week is full of bangers. I announce a cool opportunity I have in the world of Hollywood, detail my experience nearly falling into a pyramid scheme, and recount some interesting social interactions. I explain how standoffishness is a veil for social anxiety, explore why some women in comedy may be able to rise so quickly, and even touch on the effects of human flatulence on pets. What? Oh, hello! BALL GAG is back after a two-week hiatus. Fresh from my sick bed and from vacation, I sit down this week to recount my trip to Mexico, ponder the active use of empathy, and delve deeper into "perfectionism." I highlight various observations during my travels, explain why judgment is not the worst thing in the world, and make progress in the deletion of certain anxieties. This one is fun, wry, dry, and ever-so existential. Greetings listeners and welcome to another episode of BALL GAG. In episode 16, I sit down with a reinvigorated lust for my podcast and get pretty deep. I reflect on the preteen summer camp experience that made me realize I was an atheist and how memories of it have changed over time. I also discuss evolution of self at length - a theme you'll notice has recurred frequently. Finally, I wrap up with a deep exploration into "the silent treatment," its causes, and the damage it inflicts. I get serious and satirical; themes include memory, self-help, psychology, defense mechanisms, perfectionism, and more. I reflect on losing my place in "Comic Wars," the anxiety of doing roast battles, and remind myself of my true calling.
