If you've ever dreamed of having your products in stores but are hesitant to dip your toes into retail because of high overhead, lower wholesale margins, or lack of retail experience, Elizabeth Solomeina has a solution. In episode 116, Elizabeth shares her refreshingly different approach to retail. Her multi-city retail space and press showroom, Flying Solo, is designed just for independent designers to grow their brands and community. It is a collaborative retail space where designers get to control how their collection is presented, get feedback directly from customers, and make higher margins without the traditionally long wholesale lead times. Elizabeth Solomeina is the co-founder of Flying Solo, a revolutionary fashion retail and PR platform based in New York and Paris. With a background in design and entrepreneurship, Elizabeth has built one of the most influential independent fashion platforms in the world — supporting thousands of emerging brands over the years and redefining how fashion reaches the market. This episode explores: Fitting the customer Who the Flying Solo customer is How Flying Solo presents diverse designers, collections, fits, and sizing cohesively to customers The future of retail amidst today's gloomy retail headlines Fitting the lifestyle What Elizabeth and her team look in the designer they stock How brands can best prepare for a successful retail experience How creatives can thrive by working together How Flying Solo's retail model gives so much more freedom and flexibility to designers Fitting the values Why Elizabeth believes so strongly in the value of collaboration and community The benefits of creative experimentation for designers People and resources mentioned in this episode: Flying Solo website Flying Solo Instagram Elizabeth's LinkedIn Do you want fashion business tips and resources like this sent straight to your inbox? Buckle up, because this week the Tucker sisters go full solo—well, in conversation only, because God forbid Olive actually sits in a room by herself without spiraling. It's a wild ride through childhood memories, solo travels, wedding drama, horse mishaps, and the occasional stolen ice skate (allegedly).Olive kicks things off with the concept of "solo living"—you know, those mysterious people who choose to do things alone. Sandra owns it. Catherine claims Sandra was always a loner, which Sandra disputes until we learn she basically photobombed Catherine's RTE debut as a child, uninvited but clearly thriving.Cue flashback: Catherine the child star (advertising carpets, no less), Sandra the accidental TV extra, and Olive—ever the suspicious one—trying to figure out if solo travellers are inspirational or international smugglers.Sandra's independent streak is the episode's true MVP. From sneaky cinema marathons in Fairview to solo ice skating at Silver Ski, she was basically Dublin's youngest free spirit—long before it was trendy. She even went rogue at age 12 in Pontins, swimming solo for six hours while Catherine was stuck in the chalet with their mam, bored and bitter.Of course, Olive can't imagine soloing anything other than a spa day, and even then, she'd need a massage, wine, and probably a hot towel hug. Catherine? She'll do things alone—as long as someone's with her.Things take a turn into wedding territory: who gets invited, who doesn't, and what happens when randomers accidentally crash your big day. Sandra drops a bombshell: someone once turned up at the wrong wedding and still made it into the family photos. That's commitment to free cake. They also cover the horror of bringing kids to weddings (spoiler: they're against it), the shady business of blow-dry dodgers, and the high-stakes drama of suitcase mix-ups—Olive once ended up with someone else's robe, slippers, and false teeth. Talk about a plot twist. The episode wraps up with a group consensus: if you want to go solo, knock yourself out—but don't expect Olive to talk to you if she sees you alone at the bar. She'll assume you've either been dumped or you're trying to join her table and start a cult.Another classic Tucker tale full of laughs, love, and low-key judgement. Flying Solo is a No-Go: Why Everything Changes When You're Not Alone Leadership's Strongest Force Isn't Isolation – It's Connection Think you do your best work in solitude? That leadership is about carrying the weight alone? Think again! This episode busts the myth that leadership is a solo sport, revealing how synergy, trust, and community create stronger outcomes than any individual effort could achieve. When One Plus One Equals Way More Than Two The power of synergy transforms organizations. "Two is one and one is none" – highlighting that working together produces exponentially better results than working alone. Stephen Covey's principle of synergy means one and one doesn't equal two anymore; it can equal three, four, or more depending on how effectively people collaborate. The Trust Factor: Why Leaders Need Their Tribes Our best ideas emerge not in isolation but through human connection – often in hallways, parking lots, and after-hours conversations. The magic happens when people feel valued and trust each other enough to share ideas freely, even the potentially "stinky" ones. This psychological safety becomes the breeding ground where innovation thrives. Breaking the Leadership Vacuum Effective leadership isn't about knowing everything – it's about bringing people together. Our hosts share how their organizations' most successful events came from collaborative efforts where team members continuously built upon each other's ideas, creating outcomes that never could have been imagined alone. The Bottom Line Leadership in isolation isn't leadership at all – it's ego. The most effective leaders build communities of trust where accountability, innovation, and growth flourish naturally. As one host concludes, "If you're alone, it's because you've decided to be alone." Tune in for: * Practical advice on creating environments where synergy can thrive * Stories of leadership transformations from isolation to collaboration * The critical difference between leading people and working with people * How to find your leadership tribe outside your organization "You can fly airplanes solo, but it's way safer, better, more efficient, and more fun if you have another pilot with you."

1- I tell a story about a listener that I met Friday night who asked me to stop talking so bad about Jackson while also asking which candidate they should get behind. I go on a 20 minute rant about why I'll never stop talking about Jackson, Mississippi and how it pisses me off when the people of Fondren and Belhaven get upset with other Jacksonians who don't live in the goldylocks zone like they do with their state funded Capitol Police protecting them while the rest of us pay for their protection on with our tax dollars. 2- Not only is Donald Trump going to end up on the Joe Rogan podcast, it looks like Rogan has also invited Kamala Harris onto his show. This should be exactly what it takes to completely nuke her campaign off the face of earth!! 3- Speaking of Kamala Harris, she continues to gaslight her dumb ass voters while putting Trumps life in danger with misinformation and disinformation about him putting his dissidents in military camps. 4- I closed out the show with an imaginary letter written by a 16 year old girl to her father in the year 2035, upset with him for voting for Trump in 2016, 2020 & 2024!!

This is the fifth and final episode in a series on heart attacks and emergency preparedness. In this series you'll hear first hand accounts from rowers who survived heart attacks, teammates and coaches who witnessed these events, and even from widows who reflect on warning signs and “what ifs.” On this episode: Bill Byrd has been rowing for nearly six decades and was a founding member of Willamette Rowing Club in Portland Oregon. One morning in 2018, he suffered a heart attack while training in his single. This is a story about living well, being prepared, the power of having all hands on deck, and survival. We couldn't tell Bill's story without his ex-wife and longtime rowing partner, Jann Byrd, who was also on the water that morning and played a pivotal role in saving his life. Stay tuned at the end for safety tips from US Rowing Director of Safeguarding Tom Rooks and be sure to share the whole series with your boathouse safety committee and coaches. This week, host Ronald Young Jr. talks to Linda Holmes, host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast and author of two novels: Evvie Drake Starts Over and Flying Solo. In the interview, Linda explains how she started her career practicing law in Minnesota before she pivoted to TV criticism. She also talks about how NPR came to take pop culture seriously, how her work as a critic informs her writing (and vice versa), and how she has gotten much better at coming up with titles for her novels. After the interview, Ronald and co-host Isaac Butler talk about how they handle criticism of their work. In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, Linda discusses her favorite TV show and one of her main philosophies when it comes to pop culture criticism. In a recent survey we conducted on the State of Pelvic Rehab, we found almost half (49.7%) of you are the only pelvic rehab provider in your clinic. Nicole knows the feeling - as a new grad she was tapped to start and run a pelvic health program at a large hospital program. There are major challenges to being the only pelvic provider, for both you as the employee and for your practice. Your boss or manager is often initially supportive, but that may not last.Just think of some of the challenges to an ortho practice or hospital program adding pelvic rehab:Having to provide a private (and hopefully well-appointed) treatment roomDealing with a very different patient populationNot working (hopefully) with aides and giving you more time with patients than your coworkers are receivingDealing with complex patients means longer plans of care and more issues with insurance denials and appealsThey have to change the paperwork for you. And the website. Market to new physicians and in the community. And provide new training to the front desk. And somehow give mentoring and training for you, which they can't provide because you're the only one! These aren't insurmountable obstacles. But many times, it falls on you to do extra (often unpaid) work to try and make things run - training the front desk, marketing in the community, fixing the forms, etc.So ask yourself two questions. What do pelvic patients deserve, and are they getting that? And what do I (as the employee) deserve, and am I getting that?Sometimes it's difficult to create an environment where both of those answers are 'yes' if you're not working in a pelvic rehab specific practice. So advocate for yourself, advocate for your patients, and if it's not happening you might have consider taking another position.Practitioner Map & Hiring DirectoryMore than 1,000 of you have already joined our Practitioner Map (www.pelvicptrising.com/map). Happiness Doesn't Require Permission My friend Sid called to tell me he had found his next big thing. He decided to take flying lessons and couldn't wait to get started. After hearing my Mom's stories over the years, I have always wanted to learn to fly. Her father was a contractor in Wilmington, North Carolina. When an airport client couldn't pay, he offered lessons. She was 15 years old. Her stories of landing on the beaches of North Carolina were thrilling. Flying Solo before an arriving hurricane was captivating. We'll forget that she 3-days short of being legally old enough. Her adventurous spirit took control. With a hurricane coming, she wasn't going to ask for permission. She took command, and it put her in the record books. By the time I began flying 50 years later, things were more controlled, and speaking on the radio to Air Traffic Control was required - and challenging. Being nervous, I often asked for permission when I wanted to do something. I would say, "This is Cessna 67508 requesting permission to…" One day, while waiting for their response, my instructor taught me a lesson I could have learned from my Mom, "You're the Pilot in Command. Your seat is moving, and theirs isn't. Don't ask for permission. Tell them what you want and let them work it out." What? I don't have to ask for anyone's permission to do what I want. I never asked again, in flying or anything else in life. I decide what I want to do and do it. If somebody else needs to know what I'm up to, I tell them, work out the solution, and keep moving. If not, I keep moving. Some days, it feels like we need permission from everybody else. Don't fall into that trap. Your destiny is your choice and yours alone. And what happened to Sid? He asked his wife for permission, and she said "no." He never took a single lesson. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
