Saddle up, whiskey lovers—this episode of The Whiskey Trip takes us deep into bourbon country with a Texas twist. Big Chief rolls into The Rackhouse in The Colony, Texas, where the sunsets paint the sky in firelight, the steaks hit the grill with a sizzle that sings, and the whiskey flows like a backcountry river after spring rain. Here, we meet the heartbeat of the place—Rob and Amy Jones, a husband-and-wife duo who've built more than a bar. They've built a destination. A whiskey sanctuary. A spot where stories are shared, glasses are raised, and strangers become kin. First Pour: Old Forester King Ranch They start the show with a nod to Texas grit and cowboy legacy—Old Forester King Ranch. Mesquite charcoal-filtered, this pour is bold as a bull ride and smooth as a fiddle tune. Sweet dark chocolate and tobacco saddle up with leather and toasted oak, finishing long and strong. It's a tribute to the ranchers who work the land, raise the beef, and keep the Lone Star proud. Second Pour: Garrison Brothers BALMORHEA In the second half, Big Chief and the Joneses uncork a Texas legend—Garrison Brothers Balmorhea. Double-oaked and damn near divine, this whiskey is rich, velvety, and unapologetically Texan. Think caramel, honey, toasted pecans, and a kiss of vanilla. Big Chief calls it “bourbon candy in a bottle”—and he ain't wrong. Why This Ain't Just Another Bar The Rackhouse isn't just a stop along the trail—it's the whole journey. With live blues drifting over the lake, a menu full of steaks seared to cowboy perfection, and a bourbon list that reads like a love letter to America's native spirit, this place feeds more than your appetite. It feeds your soul. Because like a good pour of whiskey, food made with love has a way of grounding you, of slowing down time. It brings people together around the fire, just like the stories we tell—and the ones we drink to. So pour a glass, cut into that steak, and join Big Chief on another unforgettable ride. This is The Whiskey Trip—and this leg of the journey is one hell of a ride.

In this episode, I chat with the founder and managing director of WOW Saddles: David Kempsell. WoW is a revolutionary saddle brand known for its fully adjustable, modular design that supports both horse and rider through every stage of development and performance. We dive into the inspiration behind WoW, the technology that sets it apart (like carbon fiber trees, Flair air flocking, and interchangeable seats and panels) and how this system helps improve comfort, movement, and balance. I've personally ridden in WOW Saddles for over 10 years and have always appreciated their adjustability, comfort, and unique look. Saddle fit is such a personal and important part of horse welfare, and when you find something that works, it's a huge relief. This episode isn't sponsored, I simply love talking about things I genuinely use and believe in. If you're curious about saddle fitting, have a tricky horse to fit, or are tired of trialling saddles that never quite work, you'll enjoy this conversation!

Saddle up, thrift lovers! On this week's Get Thrifty Podcast, we're lighting things up with Niki from Prickly Cactus Ranch. She's turning vintage finds into handmade candle magic, one cozy, sustainable burn at a time. Don't miss her secrets to secondhand sourcing and soulful upcycling! SHOW NOTES: How she began her upcycle business. Sustainable upcycling + creativity = big business. Full circle secondhand. What made her fall in love with secondhand sourcing. Her favorite vessel transformations—unexpected pieces that made perfect candles. Her commitment to using organic soy wax and eco-friendly practices. The challenge and beauty of making every candle unique—no mass production here! How she photographs, markets, and sells her creations. The magic of limited inventory: it builds excitement, encourages reuse, and lets your creativity shine. How she chooses scents to match the look and feel of each vessel (e.g., a smoky amber scent in a vintage whiskey glass).
This week on The Whiskey Trip, Big Chief takes a backroad ride to Lowey Crossing, Texas, where the hum of cicadas and the rustle of pecan leaves lead you straight to the heart of Texas whiskey—1845 Distilling. Tucked beneath a sprawling pecan orchard, Big Chief sits down with owner Bob Pettit and distiller Miguel Perez, a father-in-law/son-in-law team turning Texas grain into liquid gold. With a German-built still, American oak barrels, and a bold vision, they're blending heritage and innovation to craft whiskey that speaks with a Texas drawl and a world-class finish. The episode starts strong with a 118-proof Rye Bourbon that hits like a Texas thunderclap. One sip in and Big Chief declares it might just be in the running for his Whiskey of the Year—an explosive opening pour that sets the tone. Next, they pour their Wheated Bourbon, and the room goes silent. It's rich, smooth, and downright seductive. Big Chief's eyes light up, and there's talk of a new title: #WheatedKingOfTexas. Is the crown shifting? In the second half, things get downright artful with their Four Grain Bourbon. A perfect balance of corn, rye, wheat, and barley—this pour is a harmony of flavor. Big Chief calls it a “perfection pour,” where the sweet softness of wheat and the spice of rye meet in the middle to dance. They close the show with a sneak peek of a future Bottled in Bond expression. Clocking in at 100 proof, it's still in development—but already shows depth, structure, and an impressive viscosity that leaves Big Chief smiling. In fact, he's so impressed, he says his friend Bernie Lubbers—the Bottled-in-Bond evangelist himself—would tip his hat to this one. This episode is full of laughs, legacy, and some of the finest pours on the Texas whiskey trail. If you're not sipping with us, you're missing the story. And as always, friends—it's not just the whiskey, it's the Ride. Saddle up and come along.
I'm joined by Mike Burke, Director and VP of Corporate Development at Sitka Gold (TSX.V:SIG - OTCQB:SITKF - FRE:1RF), for an update on the 30,000-meter drill program at the RC Gold Project in Yukon, following the July 10th news release. Key highlights from the interview: All 9 holes at the Rhosgobel target have intersected visible gold, with mineralization confirmed across 250 meters of strike and to 350 meters depth. Positioning Rhosgobel as a strong candidate for Sitka's third gold deposit. The Saddle zone, situated between the Blackjack and Eiger deposits, is also returning visible gold. Drilling here could add ounces within existing conceptual pit limits, enhancing project economics by lowering the strip ratio. Assays are pending, with initial results from Blackjack and Eiger expected in the coming weeks and Rhosgobel assays to follow shortly after. The program is ahead of schedule and under budget, with drilling costs at ~$350/m. A potential resource update is targeted for Q1 2026, depending on assay results and drill density at new zones. If you have any follow up questions for Mike please email me at Fleck@kereport.com. Click here visit the Sitka Gold website to learn more about the Company.

We profile Nathan Bedford Forrest, a polarizing figure who rose from a Tennessee slave trader to a Confederate cavalry general and the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Before the Civil War, Forrest amassed wealth through slave trading, real estate, and cotton plantations. Enlisting as a private in 1861, he became a general, earning the nickname "Wizard of the Saddle" for innovative cavalry tactics. His role in the 1864 Fort Pillow Massacre, where surrendered black and Unionist troops were killed, remains highly controversial. As Klan leader (1867–1869), he led violent efforts to suppress black voting rights but later disbanded the group and supported racial harmony. Forrest died in 1877, leaving a legacy tied to slavery and violence, prompting the removal of his monuments today.Subscribe to our YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/@bangdangnetwork
Mike Burke, Director and VP of Corporate Development, returns to provide an exploration update from the ongoing 30,000-meter drill program at the RC Gold Project in the Yukon's Tombstone Gold Belt. Key Theme: Sitka hits 211m of 1.13 g/t Au, including 73m of 2.04 g/t Au, at the Blackjack Deposit – the first hole of its summer drill program. Discussion Highlights: Summer Drill Results Begin: Hole 77 delivers strong results from the Blackjack Zone, validating expansion potential with broad and higher-grade intercepts. 3-Zone Strategy: Sitka is advancing drilling across Blackjack, Saddle, and Eiger zones - 15,000m allocated - plus targeting Rhosgobel with 10,000m. Deep Expansion Potential: Winter Hole 76 extended deeper into mineralization; Sitka is building out an underground model to complement near-surface ounces. Early Assay Progress: Over 10,000m drilled across 23 holes - completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Company has the flexibility and cash to expand beyond 30,000m. Rhosgobel Discovery: First three holes in this year's program show visible gold, following last year's 119m of 1.05 g/t Au in first-ever diamond drilling at this target. Lab Turnaround & Yukon Activity: Assay delays are building as multiple companies ramp up big programs, but Sitka uses visible gold to guide ongoing drilling. If you have any follow up questions for Mike please email me at Fleck@kereport.com. Click here visit the Sitka Gold website to learn more about the Company.

It's time to journey from the beautiful green landscapes of Devon to war-torn Europe - then back to a now very orange Devon - in Steven Spielberg's World War One drama WAR HORSE. Based on Michael Morpurgo's children's book as well as it's hugely successful stage adaptation, we welcome friend and history-buff - and star of Zombey - Ben Weldon to join us on the journey of innocence lost and the struggle to maintain a sense of decency in a world gripped by violence - from the perspective of a horse. We get into Morpurgo's original inspiration, to what pulled Spielberg to the story, before diving into its success as a World War One story and what its multiple story strands offer to the overall pictorial canvas of Spielberg's lush war epic. Our hosts return to the podcave, dust off their spurs, and ride into the Wild West as they review the episode, “Showdown.” Alex and Will dive into the animated debut of legendary DC antihero Jonah Hex, discovering his questionable past as a Confederate soldier -- which is quite the departure from his comic book origins. But, in a surprising twist, the mostly liberal person in 1883 was Ra's Al Ghul. He stands up against the mistreatment of his labourers and tries to free his small frontier community from a corrupt government railroad takeover. Wild, Wild West, anyone? They also discuss Ra's catatonic son who probably died on the plane journey home and the premier episode of his history podcast titled, "I Was There!"Saddle up for another spirited episode filled with time travel, antiheroes, and just the right amount of absurdity.Tip Jar: https://buymeacoffee.com/batmantaspodJoin Our Discord - https://discord.com/invite/bQF76V3nUsOutbreaks Vol. 1 Launch Page - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/speechcomics/outbreaks-volume-1-an-ongoing-zombie-anthology-series?ref=discovery&term=outbreaks&total_hits=1475&category_id=252Follow us on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@batmantaspod?_t=8zn1yhsgnfz&_r=1Follow us on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@batmantaspodFollow the Pod on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/batmantaspod/Follow the Pod on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/BatmanTASPod/Follow the Pod on Twitter - https://twitter.com/batmantaspod1Subscribe to Will's Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/willrobsonSpeech Comics Website - https://www.speechcomics.com/Monster Mash 1-2 Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/speechcomics/mobster-mash-1-2-classic-movie-monsters-as-mobstersWill's WhatNot Page - https://www.whatnot.com/user/speechcomics

Have you ever wondered what the future of pickleball training might look like? Wonder no more. PlayKout, a revolutionary pickleball simulator, is changing the game by blending high-intensity training with addictive gameplay elements—creating what founders Sean Edwards and Jorge Guerrero aptly describe as "the TopGolf of pickleball."During our visit to their Dallas headquarters, we experienced firsthand how this compact system (just 11' high x 11' wide x 4' deep) delivers an impressive workout while making practice genuinely fun. The concept is brilliant yet straightforward: a ball machine feeds pickleballs toward players who aim at targets displayed on a projection screen. Players can enjoy games like Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect Four, and target practice while hitting up to 40 balls per minute. The cognitive benefits are substantial—you're simultaneously tracking the ball, selecting targets, and executing shots, mimicking the split-second decisions required in actual match play. What makes PlayKout particularly revolutionary is its dual focus on performance and entertainment. Unlike previous simulator attempts that emphasized just technical training, PlayKout creates an engaging experience that keeps players returning while simultaneously improving their skills. Professional tennis player John Isner described it as "dangerously fun" after trying the system—a sentiment we enthusiastically echo after our own sweaty session. For facility owners, PlayKout represents an opportunity to monetize underutilized "dead space" by essentially adding another "court" that can generate revenue comparable to court rentals. The system is already heading to Dave & Buster's locations, Dill Dinkers franchises, and is being considered for cruise ships, corporate wellness programs, and even residential installations. The founders are even exploring virtual tournaments where players can compete across multiple locations.Ready to see the future of pickleball training? Check out PlayKout on Instagram @PlayKout or visit their website at letsplaykout.com to witness this game-changing technology that's bringing virtual reality to the pickleball world.Saddle up and have a listen, you'll be glad you did!Looking for a fitness app specifically designed for Pickleheads?
