WHAT TO EXPECT:Why do we find ourselves irresistibly drawn to partners who are bad for us? Unravel the paradox of intense sexual chemistry with problematic partners and discover how our evolutionary attachment systems play a role in keeping us locked in unsafe or unfulfilling relationships. We delve into the physiological and psychological reasons behind these behaviors, emphasising how the unknown can heighten erotic attraction and how our bodies strive to maintain balance in distressing situations. By understanding these mechanisms, we can start to release the shame and recognize these responses as survival strategies rather than flaws.Shame can be a powerful force in shaping behaviors, especially for those traumatised by sexual assault. This episode examines the desperate search for control that often leads to risky behaviors and addictions. Drawing from Seth Stevens Davidovitz's book "Everybody Lies," we uncover the societal pressures surrounding financial and sexual shame revealed through internet searches. We aim to lift the veil on the complexities of shame, stressing the importance of addressing it to foster overall wellbeing and healthier relationships.--------- EPISODE CHAPTERS ---------(0:00:00) - Understanding Attachment and Sexual Dynamics(0:06:10) - Addressing Sexual Shame for Wellbeing(0:10:54) - Sexual Shame, Instagram Gurus, Building Confidence(0:19:59) - Dealing With Emotions and Inner Critic✅Important Link to Follow

Seth-Stephens Davidowitz wrote a book in 30 days—and he did it with ChatGPT. Seth is a data scientist, economist, and author who challenged himself to write a book—Who Makes the NBA?—in less than 1 month after realizing how fast he could work by using ChatGPT plugin Advanced Data Analysis. But along the way he discovered something else: Writing with AI wasn't just faster, it was also way more fun. Seth outsourced the boring parts of data analysis—like cleaning data, merging files, and looking up code snippets—to AI. This left him to focus on what he loves: thinking up questions to ask the dataset. In a world where AI can answer any question humans know the answer to, asking the right questions is becoming increasingly important—a skill Seth isn't just really good at, but also finds joy in. In this episode, Seth walks me through how he used AI to analyze data and write a book in 30 days. We get into: How to create and edit complex charts with AI in seconds Using ChatGPT to brainstorm creative ideas How AI is redefining who can be an artist Why ChatGPT is an excellent tool to get a quick ballpark estimate Developing a sixth sense about when ChatGPT is wrong The power of AI instantly answering hard questions that would normally take months of research We also use ChatGPT to analyze a dataset of Olympic athletes live on the show—in pursuit of finding out which sport I'm best suited for! This episode is a must-watch for anyone curious about data science and how AI is transforming the future of creativity (or who is just a fan of the NBA). By analyzing this data, Stephens-Davidowitz reveals fascinating insights into various topics such as politics, economics, sports, and sexuality. The book begins by discussing the power of Google search data and how it can provide a window into the deepest desires, fears, and prejudices of individuals. It highlights the discrepancy between what people publicly claim to believe and what their online behavior reveals, suggesting that online data offers a more accurate picture of human nature.Stephens-Davidowitz delves into various case studies throughout the book to illustrate his point. In the era of “fake news” how do you know what to trust? Today's guest, Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, has found the last dependable source of truth: Google. Armed with Google trends data, Seth illuminates hidden truths about racism, politics, and sexuality in our world today. In today's interview, Seth dives into his latest book Don't Trust Your Gut: Using Data to Get What You Really Want in Life. He shares interesting insights he gathered along the way and how unfortunately, lying and data sometimes go hand-in-hand.--------“Google trends is so powerful because it gives you an incentive to get the information you need. And PornHub, similarly, gives you an incentive to get the information you need. So even in an anonymous survey, there's no incentive for people to tell the truth.” — Seth Stephens-Davidowitz--------Time Stamps* (0:00) Is your data full of lies?* (2:45) Seth's book Everybody Lies* (6:25) Google trends is a data treasure trove* (11:36) How data can help you online date* (16:25) Taking a data-driven approach to your personal life* (19:33) The data behind happiness * (24:13) Seth's book Don't Trust Your Gut and how it can change your approach to business--------SponsorThis podcast is presented by Alation.Hear more radical perspectives on leading data culture at Alation.com/podcast--------LinksCheck out Seth's WorkSeth's book : Don't Trust Your Gut: Using Data to Get What You Really Want in Life

Most people rely on their gut instinct to decide how to date, who to marry, where to live, what career path to take, how to find happiness, but what if our gut is wrong? Biased, unpredictable, and misinformed, our gut, it turns out, is not all that reliable. Data from hundreds of thousands of dating profiles have revealed surprising successful strategies to get a date; data from hundreds of millions of tax records have uncovered the best places to raise children; data from millions of career trajectories have found previously unknown reasons why some rise to the top. Hard facts and figures consistently contradict our instincts and demonstrate self-help that actually works — whether it involves the best time in life to start a business or how happy it actually makes us to skip a friend's birthday party for a night of Netflix on the couch. From the boring careers that produce the most wealth, to the old-school, data-backed relationship advice so well-worn it's become a literal joke, Stephens-Davidowitz unearths the startling conclusions that the right data can teach us about who we are and what will make our lives better. Seth Stephens-Davidowitz is a contributing op-ed writer for the New York Times, a lecturer at The Wharton School, and a former Google data scientist. He received a BA from Stanford and a PhD from Harvard. His research has appeared in the Journal of Public Economics and other prestigious publications. His previous book, Everybody Lies, was a New York Times bestseller and an Economist Book of the Year. He lives in Brooklyn and is a passionate fan of the Mets, Knicks, Jets, and Leonard Cohen.

My guest today is Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, author of Don't Trust Your Gut: Using Data to Get What You Really Want in Life. I'm not sure if there's someone whose work is more fascinating to me than Seth. His first book, Everybody Lies, looked at how our Google searches reveal our true selves with topics like racism, child abuse, This book looks at what the data says on how to live a better life. We touch on parenting, finding a spouse, being a sports fan, what sport your child should play if they want the best chance to get a college scholarship, and how much of an athlete's success is nature vs. nurture. His work is as fun as it is insightful and I'm sure you'll love this episode. Note this does contain some mature content towards the end of the episode.
