Gambling and NFL betting The hosts spend a large portion of the episode discussing sports betting, especially NFL futures and Super Bowl odds. One host favors betting based on personal judgment rather than elaborate parlays, while the others encourage more aggressive strategies. They discuss betting small amounts across multiple NFL teams to increase the chance of hitting a long-shot winner. A specific idea emerges: bet roughly $2.30–$2.69 on around 30–32 teams, with the goal of spending about $69 total and potentially benefiting if a long-shot team wins the Super Bowl. They also discuss FanDuel and Bet365, including differences in available betting options and player statistics. The group jokes about tracking their wins and losses throughout the NFL season. 2. Propane delivery/service work One host describes working with propane tanks and the problems caused when customers allow tanks to run empty. Emergency service can involve additional charges because technicians must perform leak checks, pressure tests, and other procedures before refilling a completely empty tank. Customers are often surprised by these fees, leading to frustration and complaints. The hosts argue that companies should be more transparent when selling propane systems, explaining ongoing maintenance requirements, fuel costs, emergency charges, and the value of monitoring systems. They discuss practical challenges technicians face, including frozen or poorly designed tank enclosures, limited workspace, rusty fittings, difficult regulators, and installations that make servicing unnecessarily difficult. A recurring point is that customers should understand how to monitor and maintain their systems rather than waiting until they completely run out of fuel. 3. Rising costs and customer frustration The conversation broadens into the increasing cost of goods and services. They note that customers often blame employees for high prices even though employees don't control pricing. One customer reportedly switched most of their home heating to a heat pump after receiving an unexpectedly high propane-related bill, keeping propane only as a backup. The hosts agree that prices rarely return to previous levels once they increase. 4. Food and Bucky's The group discusses Buc-ee's and one host's recent experience there. Several items receive strong praise, including a peanut-butter chocolate candy, seasoning, blueberry cream soda, and other food. Banana pudding and some desserts receive negative reviews. They describe Bucky's as more than a gas station: a massive convenience store with food, merchandise, candy, jerky, fudge, bathrooms, and numerous gas pumps. The overall verdict is that Bucky's is a worthwhile stop when traveling, even if not every product is exceptional. 5. Local food The hosts recommend several local food spots, particularly places known for fried fish, chicken, barbecue, country cooking, and pie. They complain about slow service at one barbecue restaurant while praising other smaller establishments for consistently good food. Food quality, portion sizes, freshness, and value are recurring themes. 6. Cocktails and drinking The hosts briefly discuss cocktails, especially Long Islands and martinis. They talk about the difference between shaken and stirred martinis, including the idea of avoiding excessive agitation or “bruising.” A cocktail show they watched is mentioned as interesting because it explained the science behind temperature, dilution, shaking, and stirring. 7. Comedic tangent about environmental exposure A long, increasingly absurd section discusses being around airborne mist/fumes at outdoor events while eating. The conversation becomes deliberately ridiculous, using exaggerated jokes about avoiding food contamination and choosing where to eat at festivals. This section is primarily comedic rather than informational. Overall takeaway The episode is intentionally unstructured and conversational, with the hosts jumping rapidly between subjects rather than following a planned format. The strongest substantive discussions are about sports betting strategy and the realities of propane service, while the rest of the episode provides humorous commentary on food, travel stops, rising prices, cocktails, and everyday experiences. The episode ultimately ends by encouraging listeners to keep working toward their goals, listen to older episodes, like/share/subscribe, and keep grinding, while jokingly returning to the recurring “$69 across the NFL” betting idea.

Drop us a line or two . . .Season five, and the queens are still at it. Queenie kicks things off solo while TT is dialing in from what sounds like an actual dream — lovely North Truro, Massachusetts, right on the water. Queenie is clearly dying to be there. The episode opens on something genuinely heady: a Vice article Queenie read about the "morbidity gap" — the growing distance between how long we live and how long we live *well*. Global life expectancy has climbed to nearly 74 years. Healthy life expectancy? About 63. For Americans, that gap has stretched to roughly 14 years — meaning a lot of people are alive on paper but grinding through chronic illness, disability, and pain for over a decade before the end. The queens land on the core problem immediately: modern medicine is fantastic at keeping people alive and not particularly great at keeping them *living*. TT brings up Atul Gawande's *Being Mortal* — a book both women clearly love — and the particularly brutal dynamic Queenie recalls from it: cardiologists who, because they *can* intervene, often feel compelled to, even when enough is enough. TT notes the healthcare staffing crisis layered on top of all this, and the conversation inevitably turns to the current administration's immigration policies gutting the workforce of people who showed up specifically to do those jobs. The whole thing lands somewhere between grim and galvanizing. Somewhere in the middle of all this, the two of them drift into what can only be described as an impromptu spoken word piece about the morbidity gap — trading lines about pills for the knee, stents for the artery, being saved from the dying but not from the living. It's part blues, part comedy roast of American healthcare, and it works. "They'll save you from the dying but they won't save you from the living" is just a line, delivered between two women riffing on a Massachusetts porch, and it lands harder than most things you'll hear in a week. The Wait Wait Wait What segment technically gets absorbed by the Tupperware conversation, which turns out to be surprisingly rich. Queenie makes the case — and it holds up — that younger women might not fully clock what Tupperware actually represented. In an era when women couldn't have their own credit cards, couldn't do the banking, had limited pathways to earning money outside the home, Tupperware parties weren't just about plastic containers with a satisfying burp seal. They were a mechanism for financial independence, schedule flexibility around domestic responsibilities, skill-building in sales and recruiting, and genuine social connection. The parties became a feature of life in the seventies, and TT remembers going to them as a young married woman. Mary Kay gets a mention — founded by a woman in her mid-sixties, which is its own kind of inspiration — and so does Pampered Chef, various home décor party schemes, and Amway (which, as Queenie notes, got a little sketchy). The throughline is women using what was available to them, even when what was available was modest, to carve out something of their own. TT's Choice — the segment where TT picks a number between one and seventy-five and gets a "what if" prompt — lands on number 74: *What if you could add one hour to every day that only you knew about? What goes in it?* TT doesn't hesitate long. Food, cannabis, and time with someone she loves who she doesn't get to see enough. Simple, honest, and a little heartbreaking. Queenie's answer is quieter: solitude, rejuvenation, a reset. Maybe the beach. She admits she's getting to the edge of worn down — grateful for work, glad for the people she's met, but running close to empty in a way that only a vacation can fix. TT, calling from said vacation, is not unsympathetic. Both of them notice that their answers centered on things that would genuinely nourish them — not productivity, not fixing anything for anyone else. As Queenie's mother apparently said: you can't take care of anybody else if you don't take care of yourself. Filed under: things we know and keep having to relearn. There's a brief detour into current events — gold-plated bridge statues installed to the tune of millions, forty-five Cadillac Escalades ordered for a motorcade, an Olympic athlete accused of vandalism in the reflecting pool who's now not being charged because it turned out to be an installation error. TT darkly considers what she'd do with a secret hour and some people she'd like removed from the world. Queenie plays dumb. Moving on. The Fucket List arrives, and TT's entry is: fuck it to wearing a bra. She's on vacation, she doesn't need the support (her words), and she'll wear a dark-colored t-shirt if her sons are around to spare them the trauma. Queenie, who has been going braless in her own house for years, is supportive of this development. The conversation evolves into a full taxonomy of bra policy by outfit type — buttons up, yes; hoodie, no; sundress, absolutely not — and a meditation on gravity, what it does to even modest amounts of breast tissue, and why it's surprising even when you had no real expectations to begin with. From there, the episode drifts into the sweet, slightly rueful territory that this show does so well: the disconnect between what your mind thinks your body can still do and what your body actually does. Queenie is thinking about going to the Cape and already mentally swimming out to a buoy, hauling herself up onto a platform, doing the kinds of things that once required zero advance planning. TT counters that they feel *young* when they're there. Ageless. And that's both the gift and the danger. They swap kayak stories — TT's sister flipping hers while getting out and landing knee-deep in water while TT sat on the beach laughing instead of helping, Queenie's sister stuck in an agonizing cross-country ski split in their mother's backyard while Queenie kept filming and offering no assistance whatsoever. Emergency response systems: fully offline. Comedic response systems: fully operational. The episode wraps warm — Queenie telling TT to enjoy herself, TT telling Queenie to hang in there, she'll be there soon. Queenie can't wait. After the official sign-off, Queenie overshares a little local history: Wolf Road used to be a two-lane farm road. The land behind her mother's house was once a pig farm and meat packing company. You could smell them making the bacon. She doesn't know why she feels compelled to reveal ancient history. She just does. Same, Queenie. I consider myself a humorist, or perhaps a writer. But recently I was called an artist and it rocked my world. Laugh as I explain the dilemma.
Comedic fun, or 16th-century Chinese rumination on the yin and yang of abortion access?
Get ready to turn off the lights and test your nerve as Andy, Ash, and Stu unveil their Top 5 films “not to watch alone in the dark.” From creeping dread to full‑blown panic, these are the moments that make you double‑check the hallway and question every shadow in the room.To steady the pulse, the Short Short Film Film Review takes a gentler turn with the BBC's comedic micro‑short Donkey — a brief palate cleanser before the adrenaline kicks back in.Then the Cruise Cruise shifts gears into pure '90s blockbuster territory as the lads revisit the original Mission: Impossible. Tom ditches the lace cuffs and vampiric brooding for wire‑drops, exploding fish tanks, and the birth of one of cinema's most enduring action franchises. Will Ethan Hunt's first outing still light the fuse for the guys, or does this mission self‑destruct? With the usual blend of silliness, seriousness, and a crucial Scientology Watch update, it's time once again to take Cruise Control.
Where's the boundary between song and speech? When does something cross the threshold and go from a conversation into a groove? When does the beat drop? One of my favorite musicians, Mononeon, has a whole video series blurring this line.(Mononeon… talk about an inheritor to the FUNK!)Stand up comics. Podcasts. Political speeches. The only way they work is by adding some music to the plain ole' words. But this ain't a blog post. Send us Fan MailA movie can be harmless and still drive you nuts, especially when you can see the better version hiding inside it. We go back to 2001 and rewatch Corky Romano, the Chris Kattan comedy that lives in a lot of people's nostalgia, then we ask the uncomfortable question: why does it feel like the script keeps forgetting to write the joke?We walk through the big story beats and the bigger craft problems, from the “one folder of evidence” FBI premise to the endless string of classic gag setups that never escalate into a payoff. We talk about what works in spurts, like Corky being genuinely good at his veterinarian job and the brief moment when that expertise could have become the running comedic engine. Then we get into what doesn't work: inconsistent character rules, a romance that expects you to find workplace creepiness charming, and an ending that waves away consequences because the mob boss technically didn't commit murder.Along the way, we hit our favorite nitpicks and rewrite ideas, including the cocaine sequence, the evidence room weirdness, and the finale twist that barely matters. Then we pivot into what we're obsessed with right now: the absurd Lego store consignment controversy exploding into lawsuits and body cam footage, plus Tony's annual six-week Love Island USA lock-in. We also tee up next week's rewatch, KPAX, and the arguments it's about to resurrect.Subscribe for more movie rewatch breakdowns, share this with a friend who still quotes early 2000s comedies, and leave a review with the one scene from Corky Romano you'll never forget.Written Lovingly by AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

The whiplash is immediate and brutal. After the triumph of "Remembrance of the Daleks," this three-part story lands like a thud. Jim gives another harsh —an unprecedented score that suggests something fundamentally broken beneath the surface. Despite strong performances from McCoy and Aldred, the story struggles with disconnected thematic elements, confused production design, and a narrative that never quite coheres. The Setup That Doesn't Work Terra Alpha: an Earth colony where mandatory happiness enforced through surveillance and a cheerful Happiness Patrol keeps citizens compliant. The story also includes a candy-obsessed killer, underground dwellers (indigenous inhabitants driving plot devices), a visiting blues musician, and a complex political hierarchy. None of these elements integrate coherently. Jim's assessment: This is Paradise Towers revisited, but worse. Same drab corridors masquerading as streets, same societal oppression, same everything-we've-seen-before feeling, but without even Paradise Towers' redeeming visual moments. The Candyman Disaster Originally planned as a human villain—just a bored, pale killer. JNT and director Chris Clough wanted a robot instead. The result: an uncomfortable costume that restricted the actor's movement and visibility, made the character nonsensical, and looked rushed and disconnected from every other design element on set. The production nearly got sued by a candy company for the character's visual design. , Tonal Chaos The story can't decide what it wants to be. Satirical critique of authoritarian happiness? Straight thriller? Comedic romp? It tries all three and masters none. The mime-like makeup on the Happiness Patrol's faces goes unexplained. The slot machine execution method appears once, then switches to fondant surprise. These aren't deepening themes—they're random design choices. McCoy and Aldred Carry the Load Both hosts agree the leads transcend the material. McCoy's ad-libbed singing of "As Time Goes By" shows theatrical training and improvisational instinct. Aldred proves her action credentials and moral agency—the Doctor actively investigating rather than stumbling into danger. Yet even their chemistry can't save disconnected storytelling. John's specific note: the Doctor telling Ace "You're no good to me like this" when she's about to attack—character development that deserves better context. Production Quirks The TARDIS gets painted pink by the Happiness Patrol, requiring repainting back to blue. The sets feel claustrophobic despite supposedly being outside on streets. The behind-the-sofa guests (except McCoy, Aldred, and Sheila Hancock) admitted the story didn't work. Ratings dropped after Episode One (5.3M to 4.6M to bounce back to 5.3M). The Political Subtext Nobody Asked For Sheila Hancock (Helen A) read the script as Margaret Thatcher allegory and deliberately amplified her performance toward that direction. Andrew Cartmel apparently got nervous about the comparison; Hancock pushed harder into it. John appreciates the subtext; Jim dismisses it as irrelevant to the story itself. The political commentary doesn't enhance the narrative—it distracts from already-muddled plotting. What Could Have Worked Discussion of road-not-taken choices: What if they'd fully integrated Ace into the Happiness Patrol with brainwashing elements? What if the candy theme permeated every design choice instead of being isolated to the Candyman? What if this story had followed something other than the series' strongest episode? The Colin Baker Question Jim wonders aloud how Colin Baker might have handled this material—would his more theatrical approach have elevated the chaos or made it worse? Speculation on whether "Happiness Patrol" appears in any of the audio continuations (especially with alternate Doctors). Coming Up Next: Monday Patreon Exclusive 173: Music, Memory TARDIS, Doctor Who Unbound audio "Full Fathom Five," and comics—"Time and Tide" and "Follow That TARDIS!" Wednesday Main Feed (Friday Patreon Early): "Silver Nemesis" - the ACTUAL 25th Anniversary story (three parts). Jim handles narration. Will it recover from Happiness Patrol? This week, Andy, Ash, and Stu navigate a landscape of pop-culture cartoons, Irish immigrants, and a couple new releases.First, we're cracking the case of The Sheep Detectives—finding out if these woolly investigators are top-tier sleuths or just following the herd. Then, our Adult Animation series enters its third era as we tackle the house that Seth MacFarlane built. We're diving into the "iPod Shuffle" comedy of Family Guy, the sitcom subversion of American Dad, and the miracle of the DVD sales that brought a dead show back to life. The Short Short Film Film Review takes a somber, modern turn with 2025's Boy, I'm Scared. We discuss how this seven-minute masterpiece explores digital intimacy, global friendships, and the quiet heartbreak of saying goodbye over a video call. Finally, the Cruise Cruise docks in 19th-century Ireland for Far and Away. Tom trades the flight suit for a flat cap, pairs up with Nicole Kidman, and discovers that the American Dream involves a lot of bare-knuckle boxing.Three hosts, one talking dog, a digital goodbye, and a very intense land grab. It's time to take Cruise Control.

SUMMARYThis episode dives into a multi-episode Clone Wars arc spanning Season 3 Episodes 7–9 and Season 1 Episode 22, breaking down how seemingly disconnected stories form a larger narrative about the Republic's growing instability. From Ahsoka's Force visions and Padmé's assassination attempt to the chaotic Senate hostage crisis, the discussion highlights how these events subtly build toward deeper systemic failures. A major focus is Cad Bane, whose calculated precision and efficiency make him one of the most dangerous non-Force users in Star Wars. The hosts explore how his actions expose weaknesses in the Republic's security, intelligence handling, and leadership, while also comparing his effectiveness to Sith and other villains. The episode also reflects on broader themes, including the Jedi's limitations outside of war, the ethical dilemmas behind saving lives versus long-term consequences, and how these smaller-scale events foreshadow the eventual collapse of the Republic. Through humor and analysis, the discussion frames this arc as less about battles—and more about systemic failure. "Fren M. 62 year old Sanitation worker that's been with the Foundation for over 30 years. Bit of an unusual case. Previously employed by a community college on a night shift, the Foundation hired them on the spot after cleaning up a containment gone wrong. Having found the gruesome remnants on school grounds, they simply got to work without question. They didn't leave a single stain."
