Intro to Cult of One - Adrienne's Story

Adrienne & Marilyn here! Welcome to Cult of One, where we explore why toxic relationships, groups, or ideologies are so addictive and what makes anyone susceptible to a cult of one, or many. We started Cult of One as the both of us experienced toxic relationships with our previous partners, simultaneously. Once we freed ourselves, we finally began talking about what was really happening behind closed doors. Through watching different cult series (The Vow, Wild Wild Country, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, etc.) we started realizing how many of their experiences lined up with our own; from emotional abuse, manipulation, isolation, to gaslighting. We joked that although we weren't a part of a group or large organization, we were still in a cult with our leader being our partner - we were in a Cult of One. This project began as a way to express our story along with giving other's a platform to tell theirs; whether it's a relationship with a partner, family member, friend, or even a boss. Between personal stories, we are also inviting therapists, life coaches, and psychologists on to offer guidance and expertise on how to heal from traumas and build boundaries to avoid further toxic relationships. For our first episode, we want to introduce your to the show along with giving you a little bit of insight on Adrienne's experience. We are so excited to have you hear to listen; we hope our platform sparks conversations and can aid in your own journey! * If you love this episode, be sure to tap that subscribe button! * _______________________________________
