In this episode of the 99 for One Podcast, Granger, Tyler, Parker, and AntMan take on one of the most challenging and controversial topics facing Christians today: immigration, ICE, and the role of government—through a biblical lens. Rather than approaching the issue through politics or cultural pressure, the conversation begins where Scripture begins—with the truth that every human being is created in the image of God. Drawing from Genesis 1, Romans 13, Leviticus 19, and 2 Corinthians 5, the group explores how Christians are called to walk a narrow path—holding compassion and justice together without falling into the extremes of cruelty or lawlessness. They discuss the distinct responsibilities of the church and the state, why laws and borders exist, how enforcement should be carried out with wisdom and restraint, and why the gospel must remain central above political tribalism. This episode challenges believers to reject fear, dehumanization, and partisanship, and instead live as ambassadors of reconciliation, committed to truth, love, and faithful obedience to Christ. No matter where you land politically, this is a thoughtful, Scripture-centered conversation that brings the focus back to the gospel and the call to seek the narrow way. *************** Follow the show: Instagram - https://www.Instagram.com/9941thepodcast Facebook - https://www.Facebook.com/9941thepodcast YouTube - https://www.YouTube.com/@9941ThePodcast Online - https://www.9941ThePodcast.com Shop - https://yeeyee.com/collections/faithSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Given the not-terribly-uplifting streak of episodes we've had lately, we thought it was time for a Know Your Enemy movie night, and were joined by the podcast's intrepid producer, Jesse Brenneman, for a conversation about Paul Thomas Anderson's 2025 film, One Battle After Another. Its tagline—"When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue the daughter of one of their own"—suggests why all three of us absolutely loved it. We discuss: the film's relationship to the contemporary United States, and what it might reveal about our political situation; how it portrays both the left and the right; the family drama at the heart of the film, and the connection between origin and identity, personally and politically; the way Ronald Reagan haunts a surprising number of its scenes; and more! Spoiler alert: we offer a quick plot summary for those who haven't (yet!) seen One Battle After Another, but that does mean certain surprises will be spoiled for you.Sources:Sam Adler-Bell, "The Fantasy of Assassination Culture," New York Magazine, Nov 1, 2025Armond White, "There Will Be Bloodlust in One Battle After Another," National Review, Sept 26, 2025Richard Brody, "The Real Battle of 'One Battle After Another,'" New Yorker, Oct 7, 2025...and don't forget to subscribe to Know Your Enemy on Patreon for access to all of our bonus episodes!

What if gratitude is actually keeping you small? In this Thanksgiving episode of The Business of Happiness, Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy explains how toxic gratitude and high-achiever conditioning keep women in dentistry and healthcare from asking for rest, support, or something better. She reveals the subtle ways “just be thankful” turns into burnout, self-silencing, and settling for less than you want. With clear examples and gentle guidance, Dr. Tarryn shows what real gratitude looks like: receiving help, honoring your needs, and letting yourself want more without guilt. If you're tired, overwhelmed, or craving a life that feels like yours again, this conversation will help you reconnect with what you truly need.Show notes:(2:38) When gratitude becomes a barrier(4:02) Remembering your worth as a caregiver(6:16) Dreams women shrink from guilt(9:19) You deserve to ask for what you need(12:18) The difference between gratitude and avoidance(13:05) Letting compliments and support land(15:27) Why receiving help matters(17:02) Feeling gratitude instead of reciting it(18:35) Outro________________IMPORTANT LINKS:Radical Happiness for Practitioners - https://thebizofhappiness.com/radicalhappiness/Connect with Dr. MacCarthy:Email: tarryn@drtarrynmaccarthy.comBook a call with Tarryn:https://api.leadconnectorhq.com/widget/bookings/happiness-and-prosperity-strategy-callUnlock your inner peace and reclaim joy in your profession with the Nervous System Regulation For Dentists Course: https://www.thebizofhappiness.com/calmPlease join my Facebook group, Business Of Happiness Hive, so we can all take this journey to find fulfillment and happiness together. I was going to write some extensive show notes for this very entertaining and informative episode, when I stumbled across a really sweet post that Strickland put on Facebook. Since you might have missed it, I decided to copy/paste that here instead. Either that, or I was feeling really lazy and didn't feel like writing show notes (unlike every other Thursday night at 10:44 PM, which is when they finally get me the fuckery episodes and they need to be posted within a few hours), I'll leave it to you to decide. It's kinda like a "Choose your own adventure" book, but in this case it's a "Which version of Mr/Mrs. Show Note Writer do you want to believe?" If you're not a member of teh Facebook group yet, go to http://www.NiceShortCut.com and sign up. No, they're not going to try to sell you a bunch of shit, it's a nice, friendly group. OK, here's the post:For those of you who don't know (although, if you've even listened, I don't know how you could doubt this) Doug Sandler and I don't plan our Friday Fuckery episodes. Occasionally, we come with topics, but that's the exception, not the rule anymore. Today at 5:20 PM CST, 10 minutes before our scheduled recording time, I was not "feeling it." I'm a pro, and the show must go on, so I would never cancel on the fuckery, but on some days, it's more challenging than others. Doug, wasn't just not feeling it, he forgot and was actually running late! If you know Doug, you know this is a very, very rare occurance, but in this instance, it gave me the perfect opportunity to adjust my attitude and get myself in the right headspace. JJ Flizanes also joined us, which was a very pleasant surprise, since I haven't seen her in quite a while, and she brings a bit of grounding to the insanity that is "Doug & Strickland." This is an image I captured right after we finished recording, and it's a great reflection of the vibe of the episode. I'm so grateful every day for this amazing life I'm living, for having amazing people like Doug in my life, and for all of you (mostly anonymous) listeners enjoying the fuckery every week. We have a handful of Funkin' Fans who call in semi-regularly (you know who you are) and even though they represent a small percentage of the downloads we get every week, we still appreciate all of you, whether you call in or not. If you're one of those anonymous listeners, call 4242-DJ DOUG and leave us a message. We don't even care what you say, but it would be great to know you're out there. If you're not inclined to do that, at least like this post, or leave us a comment. Doug Sandler and I are real people, and as Ryan Bokros so famously said years ago "I met Doug and Strickland, and I can confirm that they are the same assholes you hear on the show." This episode is a MUST listen. Mel calls it “the single best conversation” she has ever recorded. If you've ever felt behind, stuck, or doubting yourself, you need to hit play. This is the most motivational, eye-opening episode that you will ever hear, and it will give you the roadmap to become the person you've always wanted to be. Today, Mel is joined by Emma Grede. Emma is one of the most successful self-made businesswomen in the world, playing a huge role in 3 billion dollar brands, as the founding partner of SKIMS, cofounder & CEO of Good American, and co-founder of Safely. But this is not a conversation about business. It's about creating an extraordinary life, even if you're starting from nothing. Emma was raised in East London by a single mom. She's dyslexic and did poorly in school. She dropped out of college in her first year because she couldn't afford tuition. But that was just the start of her story. She proves that anything is possible when you refuse to quit. Today, she has built 3 billion-dollar companies, became a Shark on Shark Tank, and is the host of Aspire with Emma Grede – in addition to being a mom of 4.In this conversation, Emma will give you the mindset, the strategy, and the motivation to bet on yourself when the world doubts you. This is a masterclass in grit, vision, and relentless execution. By the time it's over, you'll stop waiting, stop wishing, and start moving.
