"A lot of good things happen when we grab control of that space between our first in our second thought. There's a lot of gifts that come from just taking agency back over your own thoughts before you act." What happens when we stop trying to manage emotions and start taking responsibility for the space between reaction and choice? In this episode, Heather and Chris Cullen explore a deeper, more grounded conversation about emotional regulation, gender dynamics, and why so many well-intentioned approaches to growth and healing are failing most men. They talk about respect versus control, collaboration versus competition, and how reclaiming agency over our second thought can radically change the way we relate to ourselves, our partners, and our families. This isn't about "fixing" men or "watering down" women; it's about creating environments where both can actually show up differently. What to listen for: ✨ Why men are realizing that the old ways of "managing emotions" aren't working ✨ What makes traditional therapy feminine in a way that doesn't always support men ✨ The men in your life aren't "unmotivated"; they just have different needs "Men want to feel respected, women want to feel admired. Part of the respect is bringing us into the equation versus telling us what to do. Making it pro-social for a purpose bigger than you will help ignite that flame." ✨ How to create space for men to feel respected and supported in their growth ✨ When women reclaim their power, men will naturally show up differently ✨ Shifting into relationship as collaboration versus competition "If you come to me with a chin up and chest out, like, 'You need to do this', you're probably getting it right back. And I don't know that that friction creates a great environment to express or feel." ✨ Your first thought may be reactive, but you're always in charge of your second thought ✨ It's not your spiritual journey to manage your children or partner's experience ✨ Navigating the fear of anger when the men in your life are struggling About Chris Cullen: Chris Cullen is a keynote speaker, author, and founder of Win Within, where he helps people and organizations unlock their best through mindset training. EP:178 In this episode, I'm getting really honest about what it actually takes to own your voice and your self-worth—especially when you've spent years people-pleasing, peacekeeping, and prioritizing everyone else's opinions over your own. I share stories from my own life—walking away from a successful business, losing my marriage, navigating my family dynamics—and how learning to trust my inner voice (even when it cost me everything I thought I wanted) became the foundation of my peace, joy, and mental health. We'll talk about: Why you stay small, doubt yourself, and fear “rocking the boat” How internalizing everything leads to anxiety, burnout, and even panic attacks Why verbalizing your emotions (with a safe person or space) is a powerful regulation tool The role of self-validation vs. chasing approval from partners, parents, or friends How small, consistent “hard conversations” slowly rewire your brain and build unshakable self-worth. My hope is that as you listen, you start to recognize where you're abandoning your own voice—and feel empowered to take one small step toward speaking your truth, even if it feels wildly uncomfortable. You are not broken. You're just not used to honoring yourself yet. If this episode hit home, I'd love to support you more deeply. Get Out of Your Wheelchair

Hafe you ever felt like you're living as more than one version of yourself? In this episdoe, Chris Hansen uses the metaphor of a kaleidoscope to explore, self-perception, and the emotional tension that comes from being seen - and misseen - in different ways. Just like one pattern inside a kaleidoscope can create many different reflections, we each show up in four version: who we truly are, who we think we are, who others believe we are, and who we think others think we are.  When these reflections don't align, we experience self-doubt, insecurity, and emotional exhaustion - the mental tug-of-war that keeps us stuck. But real peace doesn't come from chaning ourselves to match every reflection. It comes from grounding ourselves in our true identity and allowing the other versions to align around it.

Hey missionary family! This podcast episode is #225 - Applying the Rule of Thirds. In this episode, I'm sharing something new I've been thinking about called the Rule of Thirds—and how it applies to missionary life, post-mission life, and really, all of our human experience. You've heard me talk before about the 50/50 rule—how life and missions are made up of both joy and struggle—but this time, I'm introducing a new way to see it: the top third, the bottom third, and the middle third. That middle third—the “meh,” in-between space—might not feel exciting, but it's actually where we build consistency, clarity, and growth. Whether you're serving a mission, preparing to go, or finding your rhythm after coming home, learning to value this neutral space can help you find balance, peace, and stability through life's roller coaster of highs and lows. I'll also explain how this idea came to me at a business conference, why it reminded me of photography composition and music triads, and how seeing life in thirds can bring more compassion, grounding, and gratitude to your missionary journey—and beyond. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. In this compelling episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the profound concept of what it truly means to make an offering to God during Mass. Often perceived as just the physical gifts like bread and wine, this episode uncovers the depth of offering our entire lives—including our emotions and experiences—as a symbolic gesture transubstantiated into the body and blood of Christ. Joe shares his transformative realization that the offerings are not limited to tangible items but encompass the entirety of our lives, our struggles, and our joys. Father Boniface elaborates on the notion of negativity and how it is an intrinsic part of human life. Drawing from the Psalms and the example of Our Lady's sorrows, he explains how God not only understands these emotions but provides us with the means to express them through sacred scripture. The conversation navigates through the delicate balance of honesty in our relationship with God, examining how these emotions, though perceived as significant in our lives, may not impact God in the same way. Yet, Father Boniface emphasizes that God, being outside of time, provides a pathway for us to offer everything to Him, making our human experience a worthy offering. Ultimately, listeners are invited to embrace the idea that it's not about the perfection of what we offer but the wholehearted surrender of our entire selves to God. The episode concludes with a poignant reminder that the courage to present everything to God—good, bad, and ugly—is central to nurturing a profound and intimate relationship with the divine. Father Boniface encourages a posture of trust, surrender, and honesty, reflecting on our eternal role as God's children, always welcome to bring our whole selves to the altar. This episode inspires listeners to carry this understanding into their lives, fostering a deeper sense of comfort and courage in their spiritual journey.Tags: Spirituality, Faith, Christian Living, Mass, Eucharist, Spiritual Growth, Offering, Transformation, Faith Journey, Emotional Growth, Religious Understanding, Divine Offering, God and Emotions, Relationship with God, Lament in Faith, Childlike Trust, Human Experience, Spiritual Honesty, Spiritual Direction, Religious Life, Scripture and Emotion, Mass offering, Bread and Wine, Transubstantiation, Vulnerability, Trust in God, Spiritual Challenges, Faith in Struggles, God's Presence, Eucharist Understanding, Mass Experience, Sacramental Life, Honest Prayers, Father Boniface Hicks, Joe Rockey, Communal Worship, God and Pain, Spiritual Dialogue, Faith GuidanceHashtags: #Spirituality, #Faith, #ChristianLiving, #Mass, #Eucharist, #SpiritualGrowth, #Offering, #Transformation, #FaithJourney, #EmotionalGrowth, #ReligiousUnderstanding, #DivineOffering, #GodAndEmotions, #RelationshipWithGod, #LamentInFaith, #ChildlikeTrust, #HumanExperience, #SpiritualHonesty, #SpiritualDirection, #ReligiousLife, #ScriptureAndEmotion, #MassOffering, #BreadAndWine, #Transubstantiation, #Vulnerability, #TrustInGod, #SpiritualChallenges, #FaithInStruggles, #GodsPresence, #EucharistUnderstanding, #MassExperience, #SacramentalLife, #HonestPrayers, #FatherBonifaceHicks, #JoeRockey, #CommunalWorship, #GodAndPain, #SpiritualDialogue, #FaithGuidanceThis line is here to correct the site's formatting error.

Emotions can be overwhelming—both for our daughters and for us as moms. From tearful meltdowns to unpredictable mood swings, it's easy to feel like big emotions threaten to take over the day. But here's the truth: feelings aren't something to fix or fear. They're invitations—opportunities to lean into God's presence, disciple with compassion, and point our girls toward steadfastness in Christ.  In this episode, co-hosts Rachael Culpepper and Melissa Bearden share personal stories of their own girlhood “big emotion” moments, reminding us that as moms, we've stood where our daughters now stand. Together, they explore practical and faith-filled ways to help girls put words to their emotions, process them in healthy ways, and anchor their identity in who God says they are—not in how they feel.  You'll also hear from American Heritage Girls Founder & Executive Director Emeritus Patti Garibay, who offers an actionable tool for moms: teaching your daughter to reframe “I am” statements into “I feel” statements. This simple shift can transform self-talk, strengthen identity, and remind our girls that feelings are temporary—but God's truth is eternal.  Through practical steps like journaling, mealtime check-ins, and memorizing “truth anchor” verses, this episode equips you to model emotional maturity, guide your daughter with gentleness, and rest in the knowledge that God didn't call you to fix every emotion—He called you to shepherd your girl's heart toward Him.  Referenced Scripture:  Genesis 16:13 — God sees us in our struggles.  Romans 12:2 — Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Exodus 14:13 — Stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord.  Psalm 139:14 — Fearfully and wonderfully made.  Isaiah 43:1 — Called by name and redeemed.  1 Peter 2:9 — Chosen and belonging to God.  This Week's Reminders:  Feelings Are Real, But Not Always True  Help your daughter name her emotions without letting them define her. Just because she feels unloved doesn't mean she is unloved. Root her identity in God's truth, not her temporary feelings.   She Learns Emotional Maturity by Watching You  Your example is her blueprint. When you model calm, prayerful responses and speak truth over your own emotions, you're teaching her how to navigate hers with grace and faith.   God Doesn't Call You to Be Her Savior—Just Her Shepherd  You're not expected to fix every meltdown. Your role is to guide her toward the One who can hold every emotion she faces. Let that truth lighten the load—you're parenting with God, not apart from Him.  Explore more resources to raise girls rooted in Christ at raisinggodlygirls.com.    To find or start an AHG Troop in your area, visit americanheritagegirls.org.

If you grew up feeling emotionally unsafe, unseen, or like your feelings didn't matter, you may have unknowingly developed codependent behaviors rooted in childhood emotional neglect. In this powerful episode, Lisa A. Romano, codependency recovery expert, breaks down how early life experiences shape your nervous system and self-worth—and why the "invisible child" often becomes an adult trapped in patterns of people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and toxic relationship cycles.  In This Episode, You'll Learn: How childhood trauma, emotional instability, or neglect programs the brain for codependency Why feeling unsafe as a child rewires your nervous system to seek external validation How beliefs like “I'm not enough” become subconscious blocks to self-esteem The hidden link between early emotional trauma and compulsive rescuing or caretaking How to start reclaiming emotional safety through boundaries, self-awareness, and nervous system regulation  Why This Episode Matters Codependency is not just about behavior—it's about the emotional blueprint you were given as a child. If no one ever mirrored your worth or made space for your needs, you may now unconsciously look to others for permission to feel safe, lovable, or whole. But healing begins with visibility—recognizing your patterns and rewiring the beliefs that keep you stuck.  Take Action: Journal Prompt: When was the first time you felt emotionally unsafe or invisible? How is that experience still influencing your relationships today? Self-Awareness Practice: Next time you feel the urge to fix or please someone, ask yourself: “Is this about honoring me—or avoiding rejection?”  Continue the Journey: Discover Lisa's neuroscience-based system for codependency recovery in the
