Welcome to Dead Talk, a true crime/comedy podcast. This podcast is all things true crime, mystery histories and scooby dooby doos! Every episode one of your hosts, Lucy and Kika, will delve into some spooky true crime or historical phenomenon.
As the world starts to open back up, self care is more necessary than ever. And nobody is utilising that more than fast fashion brands... This episode we explore what self care as a concept really means and how we can differentiate healing practices that allows us to feel more grounded and the empty top tips that companies try and sell us! Kika talks about how cooking spaghetti has taught her more about her chakras than any awakening ever could, while Lucy takes on the big brands trying to weaponise our mental health to sell 'little black dresses.' It's the first instalment of our new series where we investigate stories of people in the spotlight who have committed or allegedly committed crimes behind the curtain of fame/power. This episode we talk about the sexual misconduct trial of Alex Salmond, former first minister of Scotland and leader of the SNP. Although he was found not guilty, there is a lot to unpack within this story and how the trial unfolded. So many people have come out to corroborate the idea that Salmond has acted inappropriately with women throughout his career so is he completely innocent or did he just get away with it? All allegations in this episode are of course alleged and we are fully aware Alex Salmond was found not guilty. We just wish to look into the trial and also discuss the wider concept of sexual misconduct trials and the judicial system. As always follow us on Instagram/Facebook @deadtalkpodcast
This episode we continue on our discussion about social media by discussing the world of influencers. How much responsibility do influencers have on their impact of their followers? Are influencers to blame for our society's fixation on looking 'perfect' ? We have no idea, but we're going to ask Emma Gorman and hold her responsible for all statements made in this episode! Just kidding... As always follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Instagram and Facebook
This episode we investigate the rise of social media and how it developed from the innocent platform of sharing pictures and content, to a tool of marketing and influence in society and culture. How much autonomy do we have over social media and its affect on us? I can put the phone down whenever I want, man... We dissect the culture that has been built around social media and whether we think it's more detrimental than it is beneficial. Can you build and tailor a feed that has a positive impact on your mental health or is it best to go cold turkey all together? As always follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Facebook/Instagram
tw// this episode discusses themes surrounding sexual assault/violence against women We are bringing you this extremely important episode in collaboration with @tomstotes to raise money for Women's Aid and continue the discourse around violence against women. We discuss the eruption of anger and conversation that has come out of the recent and tragic murder of Sarah Everard. We dissect society's perception of this gender issue and whether it's seen as one gender's burden to carry more than the others. Lucy shares her experience with sexual assault and how men's attitudes/language/behaviour not only have impact but are direct expressions of a wider disregard to women as a whole. For anyone who feels as though they may be in a situation/relationship where they are unsafe or need guidance please visit the women's aid website for resources. You can follow us on Instagram/Facebook @deadtalkpodcast for more info/resources and to get involved in this conversation.
It's the highly anticipated Dead Talk vs The Monarchy rematch! Just kidding... (unless?) This episode we dissect the, now viral, interview with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Oprah surrounding their departure from the royal family and the racial discrimination Meghan received from both the institution and the British press. We discuss the way that racism is expressed in the British public and the methods it uses to disguise itself as 'part of the job.' What power does the British monarchy have left? And is there still a place for this archaic institution in modern Britian? Let us know what you think on instagram of Facebook @deadtalkpodcast and make sure to suggest any future episode ideas you have!
This episode we delve into our complex and not always healthy relationships with alcohol. From our teenage binge drinking at house parties to toxic crutches during harder times. Lucy opens up about her struggles with severe depression and how alcohol has affected it. We discuss the journey of a healthy balance between having a good time and the need to 'take it too far.' We're not there yet by the way... As always follow us on Instagram and Facebook to be part of the conversation surrounding topics and suggesting episode ideas! @deadtalkpodcast
Welcome to the first episode of the new type of episode we're introducing! We want to give Dead Talk the opportunity to be a platform that not only analyses the atrocities of true crime but also the elusive and mysterious aspects of being human and dissecting our own experiences. This week we discuss high school and how our time as teens in school affected our sense of self worth! We cover everything from boyfriends, (or lack thereof) the academic system and bullying. As always give the episode a share (especially with our sexy new cover art, that's irresistible) and follow us on Instagram/Facebook @deadtalkpodcast. Please feel free to suggest new topics for us to discuss, we'd love to hear from you.
A cultural reset for Britain. The Moors murders shook the nation as an unsuspecting Manchester couple became the centre of one of the largest killing spree of children in the UK at the time. Kika delves into this case and reveals all the details of the couple's bizarre romance and then merciless killings. We cover all from each victim to 50 years later on Ian Brady's death bed as the authorities raced against the clock to try and get the location of the final victim out of Brady before he died with the truth... As always, follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Instagram and Facebook!
Put your tin foil hats on and pack your overnight alien bags because this week we’re talking about the infamous cult, Heaven’s Gate. This episode Lucy does a deep dive into how Heaven’s Gate started and everything surrounding the still shocking and mysterious mass suicide that occurred in March of 1997. One of the most infamous incidents in the history of cults. We cover it all in this episode from the leader of Heaven’s Gate, Marshall Applewhite’s criminal background and whether the cult’s followers were deluded or maybe onto something… As always, follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on both Facebook and Instagram.
This week we dive head first back into true crime with the bikini killer also known as The Serpent. This case has recently been told through the BBC series, ‘The Serpent’, as it follows the notorious serial killer who targeted over 12 people in Asia during the 1970s. Kika takes the reins in this episode detailing all the murders and just how this one man got away with it for so long. Turns out, charm and an equally psychotic girlfriend definitely helps. As always follow us on Instagram and Facebook @deadtalkpodcast to keep up to date with future episode and the chance to pick the next one!
Not everything is as simple as it seem... including Gypsy Rose. After years of being force fed aggressive medication, mental and physical abuse and being forced to live a lie which meant you had to be wheelchair bound pretending to have the mental age 10 years younger than you actually are - you would be pretty pissed huh? This episode we unpack not only the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard but the bizarre circumstances which led up to it. We butcher the term Munchausen Syndrome about 15 times and Lucy compares her getting appendix surgery to Gypsy Rose's life somehow... We'd also like to issue a trigger warning. This episode does mention things of a violent nature such as rape, murder and abuse (specific family abuse) so if that's something that might upset you or trigger you in anyway then feel free to skip this episode and we'll see you next week! When somebody says the spirit of their dead best friend is possessing their body at night to reveal who murdered them, what do you say? Oh, cool! This episode your hosts discuss the case of Teresita Basa and how her murderer was found by a series of sleep walking revelations from Teresita's spirit. There's a lot to cover in this episode, especially the bit about Ratatouille and how it is the best film ever made. This is not up for discussion. We're back baby! After a 2 week hiatus, your favourite self-identified unprofessional true crime podcasters are back. We're back with a bang as this episode your hosts discuss the tale of Guinness World Record's claimed most prolific serial killer recorded in history. This savage killed over 600 young slaves in the most torturous ways and had a good time doing it. Lucy and Alex also reminisce on simpler times such as before we knew Will Young was gay and the very first time you watched Christopher Walken's performance in Hairspray. An experience I would personally kill my own family to relive. As always follow and tag us on social media when you listen! Instagram/Facebook @deadtalkpodcast Twitter @deadtalkpdcast
This episode your hosts are drunk and opinionated! Which, to be honest, is exactly how they act most episodes. This week Lucy and Alex discuss the face of the Anti Death Penalty movement of the 1980's even featuring in TIME magazine. With each gin poured the conversation gets more heated and less comprehensible discussing the police system, the sustainability of the death penalty as a system and Alex becoming a crime scene photographer... Take a few shots with them and buckle in. As always follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Instagram/Facebook and @deadtalkpdcast on Twitter.
Arguably France's most brutal sisters in history, the tale of Christine and Lea Papin is a rollercoaster! This week Lucy and Alex get increasingly drunk while trying to manoeuvre through a story of incest, murder, nuns and some extremely French names, it's a mess. These two house maids had had enough of folding socks and washing floors and boy did they make it known. Make sure you've got a strong stomach and a drink to join in while your hosts tell this gruesome tale of one of the most notorious murder cases in France's history. As always, please follow and tag us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Instagram and Facebook and @deadtalkpdcast on Twitter.
This week your hosts discuss the unsolved death of Cindy James. An elusive case that involves all the clues for a murder but without any clues of a murderer... So you're thinking, a murder where the killer hasn't been found? That's not rare, silly intern that Lucy and Alex can most definitely pay to write these episode descriptions! Well, to that I would say, but what if there was evidence pointing to the possibility that Cindy might have staged multiple attacks prior to her murder and even the death itself? Also, I don't get paid enough. Let us know what you think happened once you've listened to the episode! As always, follow us on our social media @deadtalkpodcast on Instagram/Facebook and @deadpdcast on Twitter.
As requested by a listener, this week Lucy and Alex cover the wild and tragic life of Mata Hari. A woman who brought exotic dance to the forefront of mainstream entertainment in the early 1900s by branding herself as a Hindu princess and advocate of embracing sexuality. She based her entire act around an ethnicity she didn't really have. Your hosts explore the tale of Mata Hari and whether this culturally appropriating sex symbol turn WWI spy for French Intelligence was guilty of exploiting a culture or victim to Europe's fascination with the 'exotic East' including Mata's dark features and tanned skin. More importantly, the name Catarina Ten Hooves is discussed as possibly the best alias ever and how Alex is now leader of the Glasgow young team. One of the biggest questions in true crime is who was the Sommerton man? And also why hasn't this podcast been pulled off air yet? This episode Lucy and Alex discuss the mysterious identity of a speculated spy who turned up dead on a beach in Sommerton, Australia in 1948. His pockets full of cryptic messages that have never been deciphered and his identity never revealed, this man has become one of the most recognisable yet unknown faces in true crime. Was he assassinated? Was it a suicide? Why does Stuart Little make an appearance in this episode? So many questions, so little time. As always, please follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on Facebook and Instagram and @deadtalkpdcast on Twitter!
You think you know the story about Annabelle the doll because you've seen the film? WRONG - you've just seen a terrible horror film. This episode Lucy and Alex delve into the true story about the real Annabelle doll. They discuss the iconic paranormal investigating duo, Ed and Lorraine Warren and how devilish this little doll really was. Do they taunt Annabelle to the point in which they almost invite themselves to be possessed by her themselves? Yes, probably. All rules are off when it comes to this demon, especially for poor Lou (he gets a really shafting by our Annabelle.) As always please follow us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on both Instagram and Facebook. And @deadtalkpdcast on Twitter. If you've enjoyed the episode please share it and tag us, we really appreciate it!
This episode Lucy and Alex discuss the cold case and ominous disappearance of Brian Shaffer. 27 year old medical student Brian strangely vanished after a night out with friends celebrating the start of spring break. But don't worry its not all doom and gloom, this story features a bar that has categorically the best name for a bar ever - THE UGLY TUNA SALOONA! Alex and Lucy contemplate whether the Duolingo Owl deserves to be served a restraining order and be charged with excessive harassment and Lucy finds out some pretty devastating news about her former love and role model, Dog The Bounty Hunter. This episode is a ride, and probably not in a good way. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook @deadtalkpodcast
This week, with the current climate in mind, we decided to focus on a story that highlights the systemic racism that has been prevalent in the criminal system. We are talking about the devastating story of George Stinney, a 14 year old black child who became the youngest person to ever be sentenced to death and executed in the United States. We hope this episode can serve as a point of education and only add our contribution to the discourse of black injustice. We will be linking various donation sites on our social media accounts and sharing informative and important content to help educate us all on this issue that must continue to be discussed. I know... we're confused too, this week your hosts get philosophical and discuss reincarnation. We discuss the story of the Pollock twins who believed they were the reincarnation of their late siblings who passed in a car accident before they were born... This leads to some (dare I even say it) pretty well rounded discourse around the subject and exploration on both sides of the argument. I mean, don't worry we haven't gone too academic on you, there's still a healthy amount of tripe in this episode varying from whether any WW2 fighter jets in were Boeing 747s and how San Francisco was probably a bottle of poppers in a past life. But what do you think? Is Kirstie from HR delusional for believing that fortune teller who told her she was the Virgin Mary's nail tech in another life? Or do you believe in reincarnation? As always make sure to follow our social media accounts and tag us if you're sharing that you're listening @deadtalkpodcast on both Instagram and Facebook. That means you, Kirstie.
We've got a drinking game for you this episode - take a shot every time Lucy mixes up Uncle John and Andrew Borden... Someone's got a P45 coming in the post. This episode your hosts discuss the infamous case surrounding possibly Lesbian Axe Murderer Lizzie Borden! We discuss if the Sylvanian Families toys were really just a cult, the legend and queer icon which is Maggie the Irish Maid and how continental breakfasts at hotels are on par with stripping away basic human rights. And if you don't agree with all three of these statements then why are you listening? As always if you've enjoyed this episode feel free to follow and tag us on social media @deadtalkpodcast on both Instagram and Facebook. Make sure to like our new Facebook page where we will be asking about further episodes you'd like to see!
Ooky spooky episode 13! For this ominous episode number we have a ominous story to match. Alex's obsession with topics surrounding houses is starting to border on toxic, however, we'll let it go this time because this story is a kicker! This episode your hosts discuss the mysterious case of 'The Watcher' and a family taunted by a anonymous letter writing obsessor. A large percentage of the episode is side tracked by Lucy and Alex deciding which Desperate Housewife they would be and remembering that MAGCON was a thing... As always, if you've enjoyed the episode feel free to share it on your social media and tag and follow us on instagram @deadtalkpodcast
DID YOU HEAR THAT INTRO?! Thank you so much to our friend Ben Lobban for making that amazing intro for us. Ben is a super talented music producer and all round creative so please give him a follow at @sayhellotorufus Don't send this episode to FJ Morris because he probably won't appreciate what Alex and Lucy have to say about him... This episode Lucy and Alex discuss the unbelievable story of the missing Sodders children! 5 kids just disappear in a house fire with no trace they were ever really in the house? Ooky spooky if you ask us. Your hosts attempt and fail to understand the science around fires and gush over the aloof and lustrous private investigator, CC Tinsley. As always, if you've enjoyed the episode please share it on your social media and tag us on Instagram @deadtalkpodcast
Do you dream about having a huge mansion one day? What about if this house was seven stories tall, had over 150 rooms and hallways and stairwells that led to nowhere? Yeah, still sounds fun to be honest. This episode your hosts Lucy and Alex delve into the story of the Winchester Mystery House and the descend into utter chaos which was Sarah Winchester's life, trying to appease ghosts from her husband's past. Alex's cat Socks comes very close to transitioning to a ghost herself a few times and we hear about Alex's real life experience with a ghost, while Lucy tells some long winded story about some date she went on just to reveal she never even saw a ghost, a Dead Talk phenomonen! As always, if you've enjoyed the episode, please share it on your social media and tag us @deadtalkpodcast as it really helps the show! Thank you for all the support so far, it means the world to us.
Wow, this a long one folks. Alex and Lucy ramble quite extensively but its juicy goss that questionably shouldn't be left in the edit! This episode the two discuss the controversial horror house experience that is McKamey Manor. This American past time has a 40 page waiver that details and lists the forms of torture you must consent to before entering the house. If that doesn't sound sick enough, the owner is even worse! If you've enjoyed this episode, as always please share on social media and tag/follow us on instagram @deadtalkpodcast
This episode is a rollercoaster for sure. As Alex sets her zoom background to a picture of Joe Exotic embracing a tiger, I can only assume she becomes possessed by his spirit due to the fact that 80% of this episode consists of Socks, her cat, receiving death threats. The other 20% Alex and Lucy discuss the death of Brandon Lee (Bruce Lee's son) on the set of 'The Crow.' Your hosts fall down a rabbit hole of top tier snack choices and where peanuts land on that scale as well as the long list of deaths that have occurred while filming. Curb your insanity for a little while and fuel a new one by listening to this 40 minutes of pure fever dream. Make sure to share this episode on social media if you're enjoying it because it helps us a lot and we appreciate it a lot! Plus everyone who does automatically gets a date with Alex.
Listen, it's the best you're getting. This is the first episode recorded since the lockdown and jeez can you tell! Two things are pretty consistent in this episode, the noise of Alex's washing machine and Lucy saying "cultural significance" too many times. This week Lucy tells the infamous Hollywood tale of The Black Dahlia! Funnily enough, the rendition in American Horror Story isn't too accurate to the real story but then I wouldn't trust your hosts to provide factual information either. If you've enjoyed our podcasts please give our instagram a follow @deadtalkpodcast and share it on your social media!
It's the last episode of Quantent! We're just as sad as you are... In this final instalment it's Lucy's turn to take the stand, which is a bad idea because she's pretty drunk y'all! Your two hosts Lucy and Alex talk about the most horrific program ever created by the CIA (that we know of) MK Ultra. Turns out, LSD is like, a really bad time and the Americans loved power and hated the Russians! Please leave a rate and review of our podcast on Apple Podcasts and share it on your social media if you've been enjoying it!
So it's the second last instalment of Quantent and it's fair to say, Lucy and Alex are drunk. Okay, definitely Lucy. This episode it's Alex's turn to tell us the story of Alfred Packer and the mystery that still lies around his case. Is he a surviving hero or a murderer? Lucy is too smashed to care, all she knows is that 'The Revenant' wasn't Oscar worthy and that she won EVERY SINGLE SPORTS DAY RACE.
It's part two of Quantent baby! Feel free to have a drink with us, take a shot everytime Alex's phone buzzes... This episode Lucy takes the stand and tells the rather bizarre story of Winnie Ruth Judd and how much she hated owls I guess? Stick on some headphones while you take your state allocated walk (!) during lockdown and relax while listening to this episode. Or, heck, play it out loud on a large speaker so all your neighbours can enjoy it too! Follow us on Instagram @deadtalkpodcast and give us a share on your social media!
So the world is a bit of an uncertain place right now, and we're here to try and do our bit! With everybody making an effort to either socially distant themselves or completely quarantine; we're rolling out 4 new episodes all week to help entertain you while staying safe. This episode Alex tells a story about an Italian American love triangle go bad... so Alex's fantasy. Lucy gets a little too passionate about Cake Boss and they discuss the social significance of Pimp my Ride. If you've enjoyed our episodes or want to help spread some quarantine entertainment give us a share on social media and we'll shout you out next episode we're recording! Enjoy part 1 of Quantent!
This episode Lucy and Alex go full Ruski as they cover the story of Russia's blood countess - Darya Saltykova. As one of the most vicious, yet, lesser know female serial killers: Darya was one Salty bitch! She was pretty brutal, but so is our attempts at Russian accents so fair game. So if you've got a weak stomach and a good sense of humour... maybe tune in next episode!
Its episode two, and Alex is delving into the complex mummy issues of Edmund Kemper! We discuss the psychology around having intercourse with your mother's decapitated head (input welcomed and sought after) and Stevie Wonder... To be honest this episode took a really weird turn at the end and basically became 60/40 Edmund Kemper/Stevie Wonder, so if you lasted until the end, you deserve multiple medals.
Its the first episode of Dead Talk! This week Lucy delves into one of the oldest unsolved serial murder case in British history, Jack the Ripper. Turns out this guy was pretty fucked up. Give this podcast a share or tweet about it if you liked it and follow us on Spotify to keep up with the episodes!
