Often times, children with complex communication needs go through the day having life done TO them. Life happens AROUND them and they don’t have much say. Teaching them how to use question words is really important! It helps them know, who they are going with, why, where, and when! All things that we like to know! This week, 3/18/19-3/22/19, I want to put out the challenge to REALLY model question words! A child’s behavior is communication! If we want them to move away from tantrums, we need to give them words! -model negation in daily activities & when they are upset -use their communication device after to talk more about what happened Now remember, our typically developing children go through the terrible 2’s and 3’s and the child’s behavior of throwing a fit has been working for them….this is going to take time, so hang in there!
