Excerpt from her site: Rebecca Bundschuh’s career in photography was born of her desire to capture the fleeting and precious moments of her children, Anela, 9, and Kayden, 7, as they grew from babies into little people. Fast forward six years and Bundschuh’s talent has earned the adoration and accolades of the wedding and lifestyle photography industry. Rebecca developed her eye and honed her craft through travel and by documenting the beauty of the day-to-day minutiae of life with two children. She found perspective and beauty in the fray and discovered that sometimes the most cherished memories are captured in their most natural form when they are on the fringe of a moment in time. In 2011, one of her photos was chosen from the submitted work of over 60,000 photographers and she was awarded the honour of being named Nikon’s International Emerging Artist of the Year- widely considered photography’s top prize. Her body of work belying the fact that she is largely self taught, Rebecca is constantly building on the natural talent she possesses and never turns down an opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. Remembering the challenges of getting started in a competitive industry with fiercely guarded tricks of the trade, she offers periodic ‘Intro To Photography’ workshops in an attempt to foster the enthusiasm of those that don’t yet possess the knowledge, but share her passion. Her work has been featured in Vera Wang, Martha Stewart Weddings, Style Me Pretty, 100 Layer Cake, and Ruffled, among others. Never one to stop exploring, Rebecca is inspired by culture and travel and has shot weddings as far as Norway, Hawaii, Bermuda, Arizona, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, and New York. Rebecca approaches photography much as she approaches life in her mountain-town home of Squamish, BC. Her work is authentic and at ease. It is her composition and eye for capturing images with unobtrusive intimacy that have become her trademarks. She considers weddings to be a natural storyboard and as such is inspired to watch them unfold without interruption, documenting and preserving the emotion, joy, and energy of the day.   “Photography is my feeling, it inspires and motivates me; it is my purpose and it has changed the way I see the world. I get such joy in being allowed the opportunity to share in so many special days. The creativity and love that surrounds us is inspiring.”   Guest Links Website Instagram Nordic Retreats   Personal Links Fuego Magic Photography Education Fuego Magic Editing Course www.nvmauimedia.com www.instagram.com/nvmauimedia Honeybook Pic-time Off camera flash gear

Francisco is an amazingly talented photographer who has a passion for photography his subject in some of the most challenging light while using off camera flash to create a natural and beautiful balance of light. We talked all about his story of how he started, gear he uses, what his go to settings are and much more. From His Site: My Story      Like most photographers, I started taking photos in 2008 during high school for my yearbook class my junior year. We were able to check out the cameras for the weekend and I took advantage of that way too many times. The camera was pretty good at the time (Canon EOS Ditial Rebel XT) and I took photos of everything from spiders to lamps and even the floor. The photographer in me was growing. Eventually, I bought a Nikon D60 DSLR. My main focus back then was documenting the life of my family so I didn't quite understand my settings at the time but developed a good eye for taking photos with good composition and great emotion. The following year was when I started school full time at The University of Texas - Pan American (UTPA) so my photography took a back seat for a while. It was until 2011 when I needed a camera that could record video for some classes that I picked up photography again and started pursuing it. I haven't stopped since. Photography to me is more than taking photos. It has literally made me see things differently, and through photography I've developed relationships with people I've never dreamed I'd communicate with. I have friends all over the world through this career! I used to be a very shy guy and now have no problems talking to complete strangers. I've become outgoing and love talking to people. This is a major gear shift from the usual podcast that I share but I thought it was a necessary one as many people in our industry will benefit from this. I have always been really interesting in prolonging the optimized performance of my body to be able to do what I love for as long as I can in this life. This is the reason I reached out to Vinny with Pain Academy. He is a posture therapist and helps you get your body back into place where it is fully aligned and performing the way it was intended to. I know this is relevant to us since we spend long hours in awkward positions while shooting and sitting at the computer. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Vinny was kind enough to put together a basic program with a routing to get ready for work and decompress afterwards, I volunteered as the subject to show you really how much this career can affect our bodies!   Excerpt from his site: Your posture tells a story… This story is really a compilation of everything you and your body have been through over the years. Past injuries, jobs, sports, how you think, what you’ve been taught, your environment, lifestyle, and your emotions, all shape the way you move and feel today. Your history – past and present, can knock you out of alignment, not only creating pain, but adding excessive wear and tear on your body, mind, and emotions, on a daily basis. Our online program gives you the skillset to give your body what it truly needs so you can heal on a deep level and sustain your results long term. Let us help you rewrite your story.   Guest Links EXCERCISES FOR PHOTOGS Website Instagram Personal Links Fuego Magic Photography Education Fuego Magic Editing Course www.nvmauimedia.com www.instagram.com/nvmauimedia Honeybook Pic-time Off camera flash gear

I believe it is because of his incredibly lovable personality and talent that he is where he is at today in the wedding industry. Because I loved this I had to share an excerpt from his site: When you find someone that has more faith in you than yourself, you know that you are on the right track. That’s my story. Brief into Ok, this episode was awesome because I had a great chat with Bailey Rebecca Roberts who is a photographer that splits her time between Hawaii, Los Angeles & New York. She was born and raised in Maui, went to school for photography in New York and has also been a photo addict from the very begging. Her work is deep and her passion shines through in it. I really like her approach and hunger towards growth within the industry and her own as an artist. It was so refreshing to chat with her and I took away a lot of great insight to what it is like to be a photographer in the commercial side of things. Bailey is incredibly talented and has done work with some huge brands. If you want to see some of the brands she has worked with you can check out her website, there is an entire list of them. More time to chat with her would have been nice since I have lots more to ask her about, hence, this will not be the last episode that she is on. Living on an island in the middle of the ocean has shaped who I am: an outdoors lover, traveler, hiker, beach goer… pretty much anything outside-er. Who am I kidding… I also love spending my days cozying up inside. You know those things that make you feel truly alive? For me, that’s photography. I feel the most fulfilled when I get to hang out with an amazing couple and freeze time for them. Because these moments don’t last forever. We take photos not just for ourselves, but for the future generations. So they can see their story and where they came from. As much as I love to see my images on social media or printed, knowing they’ll be looked at in 50 years makes me the most excited. Photography aside, I’m also very passionate about living a simple life. “Less but better” is my life motto. Did I mention my brand new husband and I live in 300 sq ft? Guest links Website Instagram Personal Links www.nvmauimedia.com www.instagram.com/nvmauimedia Honeybook Pic-time Holdfast straps BackBlaze online backup   Excerpt from their site: We met in 2009. We were in a film class that explored the question, “What is the good life?” Most days we forget that our relationship began asking such a daunting question, but when we awaken ourselves to our past, that part of our story overwhelms us with thankfulness. Over the last 10 years (whether we knew it or not) we pursued this question. We failed, we succeeded, we took really big risks, we fought, laughed, cried and in our short 10 years together found that the answer didn’t lie in any destination… but in the process – the process of growing, learning, and finding joy in the small moments. I suppose that’s why we’re here now. This really happy accident of becoming photographers emerged from fiercely chasing after “the good life” and finding it right in front of us. In the people we meet. In the stories we’re welcomed into. In the moments witnessed and experienced. This is the heart behind what we do. To create images that show it all. Our humanness in split seconds. MEET BRAD One of the kindest, most genuine people I know–he doesn’t know a stranger. Brad is a northern boy with a love for the outdoors, a knack for finding new music, and a risk-taker at heart who tends to talk me into new and wild adventures like paragliding in the Swiss Alps. The way he loves others is nothing short of inspiring to anyone who knows him. He’s always seeking a way to see the world differently through the lens. If Brad had a free Saturday, he would wake up with a pour over and spin a record from our growing collection. Then he’d grab a Wendell Berry novel and hammock and spend the afternoon in the park before dinner and bourbon (neat) at Rolf & Daughters with a few close friends. MEET JEN Someday our kids will wake up to a stack of her journals, and the stories upon stories of her life will unfold into this beautiful mess of love, laughter, challenges, and victories. Jen documents everything. Our home is full of new and old journals that bleed ink and shed paper. They’re full of her life’s thoughts, her ideas for raising our son, future paintings, dreams for new adventures across the world, what recipes she loves at the time , and how our couples inspire her marriage. Jen is incredibly strong and wise and I love gleaning from her wisdom. If Jen had a free Saturday, she would wake up with a pour over, a tasty brunch and good book, followed by an afternoon of kayaking and hanging with friends the backyard under bulb lights.

I adore art museums and dabble on the ukulele. I graduated with honors when I received my BFA in Photography from Shepherd University (a degree I was pretty sure people would care about when I was 18. So young. So naive). At least I’ve channeled some of my education into creating educational resources for other photographers over on Patreon. My entire life, I’ve loved sharing my perspective; illustrating life as I saw it and taking photos of things I thought may be overlooked. And I even wrote a journal entry at the age of 7 stating I would someday be an artist. In a black and white composition notebook, I poorly scribbled the words: “I don’t want to be famous, but I want people to want my art.” As profound as my literary self-realizations were at 7 years old (to be honest, I mostly wrote about how much I love dogs, which is still totally accurate), it’s admittedly a little difficult to write about myself here. Not to mention it’s much more interesting to tell stories using photographs, which thankfully, is exactly what I’ve been doing for the past 10 years shooting weddings full time. I narrate the families and friends and love using captivating light and a series of photos that tell the story about you. Together, we create images that draw you back into those moments, that make you feel light and love and that say exactly who you are. Getting to work with you on your wedding day is so much more than just photojournalism — there’s the “getting to know you” bits and the “getting to share the things you love” bits that we’ll share. Everything from weddings to editorial and lifestyle portraits to working at a newspaper has taught me to see beauty and adoration through the lens of a camera, and I would love to tell your story.

I am a wife, mama to two under two and a full-time wedding photographer. On rare days I feel like super mom if I have gotten both kids to nap and 20 pictures edited from last weekends wedding. Finding that “balance” between life and work has been one of my hardest struggles this year but, I am always determined to make it work. I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfectly balanced life when you are a business owner and a mama. You simply just do what you have to do and try to spend your time wisely. One other thing I love doing is meeting new photographers in this industry, mentoring on different editing techniques and not giving a damn about what others think in the process. I remember when I was ten years old, the teacher asked us to draw a picture of who we wanted to be when we grew up and I drew a stick figure with a camera around my neck. I wanted to be a photographer. I would save my weekly allowances for the $5 disposable cameras and would get so excited to get the film developed.  Along the way from there to college though, I was told I could never make a living off of being a photographer so, I went to school to become a Surgical Technologist. I also did some modeling while in college and was always way more intrigued by what the photographer was doing and the process of composing an image over being in front of the camera. I remember one of the photographers showing me the back end of his Canon mark iii camera and it all looked like a foreign language but, was so magical. I had so many questions running through my mind. What the heck was f stop? What is shutter speed? I even remember not knowing what the mm numbers meant and thought I needed every single lens in the world to capture different images. More vividly, I also remember reaching out to anyone and everyone I knew that was a photographer asking for tips on how to get started and very rarely would anyone respond. This is probably why I enjoy helping other photographers so much because I remember that feeling of confusion and not having help. I bought a journal and Youtube’d every single question and ran around taking pictures of cups on tables and random leaves on the ground just to gain knowledge and begin to understand the fundamentals of the camera. I just so badly wanted to become a successful photographer and that is why I put in so much work and time to get to where I am today as a photographer. I owe my career to my babies though, if it wasn’t for me getting pregnant and having the ability to quit my job as a Labor and Delivery Tech to stay at home with them, I wouldn’t have ventured into seeing how this whole thing could actually be a thriving business.

We discussed how he prepares the clients to shoots, how her make them comfortable prior to getting started. Techniches used to make couples comfortable, how to get them to laugh, where he finds inspiration and new pieces of gear. We had some good laughs and I know you will like this one. Excerpt from their site: I’m Brazilian, but I have lived in Canada and have spent a third of my life in the USA. Started living the city life in Los Angeles and made my way west to the Islands. I love the fact the I live on an island in the middle of the Pacific.  Maui has been home for the past 14 years.  I share my island life with my fiancé Annie, daughter Isabella, cat Kitty and dog Nala. I love surfing. I’m a craft beer lover. I don’t think anything beats watching the sunset on the beach with your people enjoying a pint. I’m mostly vegan but eat sushi occasionally ( couldn’t give that up). Music inspires me so much! It’s inspiring me right now to write this “about me” and it will probably inspire me to edit your wedding photos as well. Sunshine makes me stoked but rainy days are a must too. No rain no rainbows. Oh, and there’s also coffee. Photography has been my passion for as a long time and it didn’t start with a romantic story at all. My grandpa didn’t give me an old film camera. My dad didn’t have a dark room in the basement. I actually got my first camera when I was 18 with my own money and it was one of those old digital cameras with a tiny screen in the back. But I used that camera to the ground.  I can’t even remember what happened to it. I just fell in love with freezing moments and telling stories, both important moments and not so important moments. But really, I do believe that that’s all we take from this life. The moments we have with the people we love. Which brought me to weddings! And I’m so glad it did. My approach to wedding photography is a little different.  Keeping it simple and relaxed, I seek out the real, raw and emotional moments within the wedding day.  I look to create intimate, honest images of my couples and strive to document this in a way that is as unique as their own love story.  Whether I’m at a big wedding, an intimate elopement, a beautiful engagement, or a casual couple session – if there’s love involved I’d love to be there. These two are incredible humans! I had a great time chatting all about their journey and approach to shooting weddings and portraits. I can't get over how genuine and fun they are. Excerpt from their site: Hi, we’re Stefan & Audrey! A married photographer duo based in the far northwest corner of Washington State. We tell most people we’re from “Seattle”, but we actually live in a small farming town right on the Canadian border. We both grew up here, and love everything about it. Close to the mountains, the ocean, and the community of people here is absolutely incredible. We’re “wedding photographers”, no doubt, but we feel like our job is so much more than that. And not because we take photos of other things sometimes, or travel a lot. But because the way we approach weddings isn’t just with our cameras. It’s with who we are as people. Relational, fun, real, and natural. We’ve been privileged to document over 150 weddings now, and we’ve found that the key for us to capture the best possible photos is the same exact recipe that it takes for us to find the energy and passion to continue doing this job year after year. And that’s to engage our couples in an actual relationship with us, to have a lot of fun along the journey, and make the process one that’s enjoyable without overshadowing the fact that it’s ALL about your love and your story together. We’ve also found that the best photos are created when the level of trust and creative freedom is at its highest possible point. When inhibitions, fears, and worries are left behind. When the anticipation about what’s around the next curve in the road is stronger than the fear that ‘this drizzle is going to ruin my hair.’ And when our cameras become invisible, and you forget about everything else except the person you are embracing. It’s been almost 8 years since we officially went into business as photographers. And the road hasn’t always been easy. We’ve learned a lot along the way, and still feel like we learn something new every year. Something we know for sure though, is that we love weddings. We’re genuinely excited every time we’re in the car on the way to one, and we’re not sure how, but we have literally worked with the best people imaginable! We’re more in love with each other than when we got married more than 8 years ago, and would not be where we are without the loving support of our incredible friends, church, family, and to whom we owe everything, our Lord Jesus Christ. This life is a roller coaster, and we’re screaming at the top of our lungs for multiple reasons. Wendy is an incredible human and photographer. I got to sit down and chat with her and learned a lot about her journey and approach to photography. My favorite take away was the fact that she is incredibly passionate about photography not only for work but during every day life. She is constantly in pursuit of capturing those real moments with her family and children. If you like mega artsy colorful shots, you HAVE to check out her work! About Wendy: Shooting with Feeling I am more interested in the feeling you get when you look at an image than making sure its technically perfect.  In fact, my love of imperfection is not just in photography but in my whole imperfect life.  Four children, two dogs, one wild cat and my husband are where I call home.   We live on Maui and love our casual life here. Its messy, its chaotic, with a large share of challenges, but I grateful beyond measure to be living it. My aim with photography is to capture the feeling between you and your loved ones — whether that is your groom or bride or children or parents.  There is nothing that means more to me than a photo where you are taken right back to how you felt in that moment it was taken.   I love shooting weddings and families and people of all kinds.  I love telling their stories through images.    When people ask me for my style of photography, I have no answer because the truth is that I use many different styles to capture weddings and families.  I capture the unscripted moments (documentary photography), I capture the people in posed individual or group posing (portrait photography), and I capture the story and details of the day (editorial photography).  I love to be creative and focus on the feeling of the image while manipulating the technical aspects for some images and for others I favor a beautiful portrait worthy of a magazine feature.  Just like life, its all a mix, but what you walk away with is a complete story of your wedding, event or family that feels like the day, like you, like the feelings you felt, and the love that exists. How she became part of a photography community and that helped not only grow as an artist but also grow as a business. The true importance of having genuine relationships and friendships with people no matter how far away from you they are in the world. It was SUPER interesting to get her perspective especially coming from such a different market, not only outside of Hawaii but also outside of the United States. I think that this podcast will encourage all of you wedding photographers out there. I think this episode applies to Maui wedding photographers equally as it does to people interested in photography all around the globe.   Guest Links Website Instagram Personal Instagram Personal Links www.nvmauimedia.com www.instagram.com/nvmauimedia Honeybook Pic-time

This episode I sat down with an absolute power couple! Dmitri and Sandra are incredible Wedding Photographers here in Maui, Hawaii. Dmitri and Sandra are film photographers who have been in the industry for over 10 years. We talked a bit about what it is like to be a married couple running a business while taking care of two kids. The balance of work and life. It is so cool to hear how they help each other grow, how they are able to challenge and push each other. We talked about their approach to weddings, what it was like to transition from digital to film photography. They had some amazing insight on how to renew your excitement for photography when you feel stuck. I know that for many people it is common to feel unmotivated when you have been doing the same work for years and years. However, your passion can turn into a job after you do it long enough. Dmitri and Sandra had awesome feedback on how they broke out of that feeling. It is always a personal choice to break out of that rut and find inspiration once again. I can't say enough about these two, they are so kind and genuine. I have seen them in action many times and their approach to weddings is refreshing. They way that they handle every situation with confidence and bring a peaceful stillness to everyone around as they navigate the timeline of your wedding day. They also gave us some amazing tips on how to get started with film photography. Resources and even choosing your gear! I know many people find this process intimidating so I hope that this episode can shed some light on how to make that transition! I sat down with Mykle Coyne, an incredibly talented photographer, and intensely introspective being to talk about his story. I knew this episode would be a long one and that the conversation would revolve about more than just shooting weddings. His journey with photography began as a kind playing around point and shoot cameras, he developed a passion for fashion photography and was determined to make it his career. He now shoots commercial work, weddings, and studio portraits. We had some really interesting conversation around the topic of curating your content and what our responsibilities are as content creators exposing younger generations to images that could be skewing their version of real life. If you are not into that kind of conversation you can skip to minute 34 of this episode and that is where the photo talk begins! We spoke about shooting photos indoors and outdoors with off camera lighting. So if you are interested in that, definitely this will be for you. I am very interested to hear all of your thoughts on how this episode went. As I said before the first 40 minutes or so were completely unplanned. I know that thus far all of my episodes have been about peoples journeys and technical talk, but would you be interested in hearing more discussions about morality based topics and other ethical issues we deal with on our everyday work situations? if you do, please email me at fuegomagicpodcast@gmail.com with your thoughts as well as ideas. I would love to hear all about it. I would love to hear your opinions on the topics we discussed in this episode and I will absolutely voice everything you share with the audience during the next episode. I can't wait to hear from you!
