Nancy refuses to decorate outside her house for Christmas because it’s too warm outside. However, it’s going to be cold on Friday so she may do it then. Joey needs to get out his Christmas inflatables (the Grinch, Buc-ee Beaver, and a Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake). Nancy’s husband is off work all week, and he’s been keeping himself busy with household chores. He told her that he would be a good “house husband.” Joey is headed home to Iowa for Thanksgiving, and he is not looking forward to the weird macaroni and corn casserole his family makes. We talk about other odd side dishes we don't like such as green bean casserole and Karly’s grandparents’ “pink stuff.” Nancy is determined to wear a funny costume in the WIVK Christmas Parade. She has been begging Joey for years to dress up in inflatable reindeer suits. This year, she found someone that could make us those costumes out of balloons. Joey finally had someone come out to his house and check for mold. Turns out, there is mold in his crawlspace. It is going to cost a lot to fix, so he is going to get a few other opinions before scheduling anything. Lucky 7 Everyone in the WIVK staff except Heather was denied for the Savannah Banana ticket lottery. All of us want tickets and we aren’t sure how we are going to get them. The Bananas say they are making their own ticket resale site where all tickets would be resold for face value. Hopefully that works out for us! We debuted three new Thanksgiving songs! “I'm 41 and clearly having a mid-life crisis. Sobriety has given me a clearer picture on my values and what I want in this life. When I was drinking, I knew it wasn't working but I didn't have the strength to do anything.” Sarah found herself living for the weekend until the hangxiety of late boozy nights was debilitating and she knew in the depths of her soul she deserved better. On the morning after Easter in 2022 she knew she had to do something different. What followed was the mix of sadness and joy all leading to her midlife awakening as she gained the clarity to know what's important and the courage to act.  Here's what you can expect to hear.  Sobriety as a Life Transition  We talk about how sobriety is similar to other life transitions in that at first it does feel scary and daunting and you feel like you don't know what you are doing (because you don't!) but not to make that mean too much. Community as the antidote to Grief How the beginning of her sobriety was full of grief and depression and that the one thing that could have helped was having a community and learning to live life sober. Today's guest is Katie Garrison. Katie is a mother of a beautiful daughter with many unique abilities. Her daughter was diagnosed at 22 months with many diagnosis's: Soto's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Kidney and Heart problems, Autism, and Apraxia (non-verbal). Soto's Syndrome is characterized by a distinctive facial appearance, overgrowth in childhood, and delayed development of mental and movement abilities. Her daughter is now 10 years old in a mainstream school. She LOVES to dance more than anything! Another hobby is ripping pages out of magazines and books anything she can get her hands on. Doctors told her that her daughter would not be able to walk or talk… Jokes on them! She is able to walk and can verbalize a few words. She mainly uses sign language or her iPad to talk. Her gate is off balance, which affects how she runs but she can do it! Through all the joys and challenges Katie goes through, she wouldn't change it for the world. The love she has for her daughter is unbelievable! She is a super star!

This is the most exciting new drummer to me ever. No cap. I love hearing this drummer over all others. My daughter, June Puryear, is 7 years old and has been playing the drums since she was 2. She began playing intently when she got her own kit  last Christmas. She LOVES music and can be found reading sheet music or matching harmonies and learning lyrics with whomever is playing on the speakers - but mostly Taylor Swift. Today I am discussing one of the most infamous and puzzling missing child cases from Alabama. 12-year-old Sherry Lynn Marler.   Just after the start of summer break in 1984, one morning, Sherry tags along with her stepfather Ray to run some errands. He needs to fix a combine and check on some crops before making the about 30-minute drive into the town center of Greenville to go to the bank.   While I know I would have certainly skipped this trip in favor of sleeping in, Sherry was excited to come along. She LOVES farming. And she looked forward to summer break for days just like this, days where she could be out in the fields checking on the crops, seeing what was new in the feed shop on main street, and I'm sure a million other tasks farmers have to complete to keep their farms up and running.   All of this to say, Sherry was excited to be hanging out with Ray, continuing to learn what it takes to run farms like he does. After fixing the combine and checking on some crops, they make the drive into town. There, Ray parks his truck behind a furniture store, leaves a dollar for Sherry to grab a coke from the vending machine across the street and walks into the bank. 15 minutes later, Ray walks back to the truck, and Sherry is gone.
