Listen in to this revisit as Andy chats with two guests, both of whom have been featured on the podcast multiple times in the past. Laurie Arons is a planner and designer of Laurie Arons Special Events and has been featured in numerous magazine publications and has been listed in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Martha Stewart Weddings as one of the top worldwide planners. Her clientele is made up of trendsetters such as Sophia Coppola, Vanessa Getty, and Christy Turlington as well as prominent business moguls like Gary Friedman, Frank Caufield, and Eddie DeBartolo. Laurie has also created and runs a very successful wedding planner master class. Also joining Andy is Jose Villa, a fine art photographer who is considered by many to be the top event photographer in the world. He has been published in numerous magazines and was named one of the top wedding photographers by Martha Stewart Weddings, Harper's Bazaar, Style Me Pretty, and Vogue. He was also named one of the top ten photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine and was named one of the most influential photographers of the decade. Jose, in addition, runs workshops and authored the book Fine Art Wedding Photography. Laurie and Jose have been working together for nearly a decade, and they each elaborate upon what it's like working with the other. Laurie describes her business as live theatre only not with actors, a feeling which gives her butterflies because she puts a lot of thought into it. They also discuss at length how they address unexpected obstacles such as challenging weather, what's important to them as far as the guest experience is concerned, what they look for in a good venue, and what they are seeing happening currently in their business now that we are (hopefully) nearing the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Andy had such a fun time talking to Laurie and Jose again – especially at the same time – and encourages you to go back and listen to their previous episodes of the podcast by going to The Wedding Biz's website and typing in their names in the search bar. Be sure to also subscribe to the podcast so that you never miss an episode, and if you can think of at least three good friends who would benefit from listening to the podcast, share it with them! Andy would also appreciate a positive review wherever you listen to the podcast! Have you heard about Stop and Smell the Roses with Preston Bailey on The Wedding Biz Network? Listen as Preston shares the secrets, tools, and technologies behind his extraordinary ability to create a theatrical environment out of any space. Also, don't forget about Sean Low's podcast The Business of Being Creative, where Sean discusses the power of being niched, pricing strategies, metrics of success, and so much more. You can find both shows on The Wedding Biz Network. SUPPORTING THE WEDDING BIZ Become a patron and support Andy and the show! If you are so inspired, contribute! If you're curious to learn more about what it's like to design a show house, this one is for you! In this episode, I speak with residential interior designer Jennifer Muirhead, of Jennifer Muirhead Interiors, all about her experience and the process of designing rooms for a show house. She shares what it was like to move across the country, re-start her business, and how she got involved in show house design. I learn the surprising outcome of this project, the post-event procedure, and the best (and worst) aspects of working on something like this. You'll discover how Jennifer balances her design style to attract the ideal client, how she weighs the costs against the return, and her terrific marketing idea to draw in new opportunities. About Jennifer Jennifer Muirhead started her eponymous design firm in 2012 in Los Angeles. After the 2008 recession (and a few years working in tv production and as a lifestyle magazine editor), she reevaluated her passions and returned to school for interior design. She began taking on design projects almost immediately and hasn't looked back since. Today, Jennifer delivers bespoke spaces to clients in the NJ/NY metropolitan area. Drawing on both her West Coast and East Coast experiences, she finds the sweet spot between modern and classic elements, creating spaces that are welcoming, authentic and casually elegant. Jennifer's work has been featured in Homes and Gardens UK, Lonny, Martha Stewart.com, Apartment Therapy, and Style Me Pretty. As a former personal trainer, Amber fell into the wedding industry quite by accident. When the economy crashed in 2008, Amber took the nearest desk job she could find at Deloitte. With grit and determination, she survived 7 rounds of layoffs working her way to a corporate event planning role in their Dallas office. Eventually, one event led to another and after hiring a “day of coordinator” for her own wedding, she realized she could do it better. So she did and along came her first business, Heavenly Day Events in Austin, Texas. Amber's philosophy on creating opportunities served her well in becoming a local leader, looked to for expert advice by her peers. After a decade in weddings and events, Amber pivoted her career to coaching others on a national level. As the host of Refine for Wedding Planners, Amber mentors new, aspiring and struggling planners via the largest Facebook group exclusively for wedding planners. She offers a course, retreat and templates that are known for being unlike anything else on the market! Community over competition is important to Amber and she is proud to have helped start the Associated Wedding Planners of Austin, a conglomeration of local planners seeking to grow and excel through ethics and standards. As a Public Speaker with regular interviews and publications in sources like Bustle, Pop Sugar, Style Me Pretty and Martha Weddings, Amber brings fresh perspective. Known for her radical honesty, Amber often says what most people are thinking but won't say, striving to elevate the industry one conversation at a time. Are you a wedding planner? In this video, we talk about how to streamline efficiencies at home so that you can make a bigger impact in your business! About Our Guest: As a former personal trainer, Amber fell into the wedding industry quite by accident. So she did and along came Heavenly Day Events in Austin, Texas. In this episode Jamie and Heather talk to Margaux Fraise about how the transition from being an event planner to a small business coach. She talks about strategies for creating and maintaining boundaries with your clients and how to setup clear expectations from the start. Margaux also talks about how a life-changing event caused her to re-evaluate her life and business goals to support the life she wanted to live.About Margaux Fraise: She is the owner + creative director of Harmony Creative Studio, an award-winning boutique wedding firm in Los Angeles, CA. A Stage IV breast cancer survivor, she has a unique perspective on what is truly valuable in love, life and weddings – and brings that viewpoint to help her clients hone in on what matters to them. As a result, her work has been featured in numerous publications, including Style Me Pretty, Brides, and Green Wedding Shoes, among others. Margaux serves as a wedding business educator, frequent podcast guest and motivational speaker. Her meticulous onboarding, planning, design and execution procedures have also caught the attention of her peers, and she shares insight regularly on efficient systems for creatives. In this episode, Jamie, Heather and Margaux discuss:Covering your bases in regards to harassmentDiving into your community Keep repeating yourselfKey Takeaways:Don't endure harassment from clients. Include abuse and safe environment clauses in your contract where you're able to leave if you feel uncomfortable or are unsafe since a lot of people get drunk on wedding events and that often brings out bad behavior in people. Open yourself up to connecting with people that are in the same industry as you because doing otherwise wouldn't be sustainable. Find a community, meet people, and start relationships. Don't get tired of repeating yourself. You've got a message to put out there and it won't reach the right people in just one or two tries. Somebody new will always see your message as something new. "I was one of those people that was like, 'I can't be friends with other wedding planners, I don't want them to know what I'm doing - what I'm charging', it was that kind of mentality which sounds okay until you realize that the wedding industry is small and life is long and that's not sustainable." — Margaux Fraise Connect with Margaux Fraise:Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/HarmonyCreativeStudioWebsite: https://harmonycreativestudio.com/Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/hrmnycreativeInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/harmonycreative Connect with The Union Podcast:Website: https://theunionpodcast.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/unionpodcast/?hl=enShow: https://theunionpodcast.com/our-podcast/ Connect with Jamie:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdAcY6YGgF-RgGYXTsOENbAWebsite: https://jwcoordination.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jwcoordination/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/JWCoordination/ Connect with Heather:Website: https://theweddinghacker.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/weddinghackerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/weddinghackerexpoPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/theweddinghacker/ Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.
