Laurie Arons is a planner and designer of Laurie Arons Special Events and has been featured in numerous magazine publications and has been listed in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Martha Stewart Weddings as one of the top worldwide planners. Her clientele is made up of trendsetters such as Sophia Coppola, Vanessa Getty, and Christy Turlington as well as prominent business moguls like Gary Friedman, Frank Caufield, and Eddie DeBartolo. Laurie has also created and runs a very successful wedding planner master class. Also joining Andy is Jose Villa, a fine art photographer who is considered by many to be the top event photographer in the world. He has been published in numerous magazines and was named one of the top wedding photographers by Martha Stewart Weddings, Harper's Bazaar, Style Me Pretty, and Vogue. He was also named one of the top ten photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine and was named one of the most influential photographers of the decade. Jose, in addition, runs workshops and authored the book Fine Art Wedding Photography. Laurie and Jose have been working together for nearly a decade, and they each elaborate upon what it's like working with the other. Laurie describes her business as live theatre only not with actors, a feeling which gives her butterflies because she puts a lot of thought into it. They also discuss at length how they address unexpected obstacles such as challenging weather, what's important to them as far as the guest experience is concerned, what they look for in a good venue, and what they are seeing happening currently in their business now that we are (hopefully) nearing the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most wedding professionals are taught to grow by way of digital marketing, but there's something with a much higher ROI - relationship marketing. When you compare what you get out of fostering industry relationships with digital marketing, it's not even close. The former will always win.   One ad can bring in a single wedding. One industry collaboration can bring you hundreds of weddings throughout your lifetime. That's the kind of ROI marketing dollars will never buy! It doesn't matter what level you're at - entry level, high-end or ultra-luxury, investing in relationships will always create the most value.   How do you grow your business and even level up in your clientele without digital marketing? Could introverts actually have an advantage when it comes to networking? How can one industry relationship turn into a lifetime of business?   In this special on-site episode in Venice, Italy, we're joined by husband and wife duo Cherish and Lindsey Conklin. The co-founders of Le Rêve Films talk about their business, networking and how they grew an ultra-luxury wedding business without paying for a single ad.    Guest Bio   This husband-wife duo launched Le Rêve Films in 2010 from their shared passion for traveling the world and transforming the magical memories from a couple's nuptials into a visual tapestry that showcases their love story for a lifetime. Today, Kristin talks with Wendy Kay a wedding planner and educator from Birds of a Feather Events and E3, all about pricing tiers as a wedding photographer in 2024. They talk about each tier, how to price accurately for the tier you're in, and what it takes to move up as you grow in your business. Wendy shares her advice and experience as a planner and coach and shares valuable insight into some of the ins and outs of reaching those luxury wedding goals as a wedding photographer.  Thriving on creating something from nothing, Wendy welcomes the creative challenge and complex logistics required to (literally) build an event from the ground up. From design conception to collaborating with the creative team and directing the day-of execution, Wendy respects each stage of the wedding planning process, considering the journey just as important as the destination. A former television producer, Wendy transferred her talents from directing live TV to weddings. Over a decade since creating Birds of a Feather events, she continues to lean on her problem-resolving skills while remaining quick on her feet on event days. Named a Top Wedding Planner and Event Designer by Martha Stewart Weddings and Best Wedding Planner in America by BRIDES, Wendy really is an “Idea Machine.” Whether cozy interiors, artful window displays, or wizardly worlds, Wendy uses her love of set design as inspiration to translate the stories of her clients through unexpected details. Wendy's clients connect to her calm demeanor, sharp wit, and surprising knowledge of pop culture. A diplomatic straight shooter, she guides her clients through potentially sticky situations with transparency, tact, and, most importantly--humor.  Today, after 14 years of owning her own planning and design business, much of Wendy's time is focused on educating other vendors on best business practices to transform their own businesses through honesty and “tough love”.  When not taking care of business, you'll find Wendy on the couch watching Ru Paul's Drag Race with her husband and four cats: Monkey, Kitten, Bobbi Newport, and Pooter. Creating a magical wedding is a dance of balancing contradictions. You have to saturate the senses without over-producing, steep the event with individual details that become seamless, pace a fast-moving day, and counter the emotional crescendos with much needed lulls.   The planners responsible for this do multiple events a year, but they still have to make that particular event authentic to who's being celebrated.   The ultimate litmus test and sign you've succeeded? When someone can't pinpoint what exactly made the day so magical because the components are so harmonious.   How do you set yourself up for this from your first moments with the client? What steps can you take to understand the client and the guest's journey throughout the day? In this episode, we're joined by leading wedding planner, Jennifer Zabinski. She shares how she makes her events so magical, and the thinking behind her approach.     Guest Bio   Though she's now known as one of the country's leading wedding planners—named best of the best by both Harper's Bazaar and Martha Stewart Weddings—Jennifer Zabinski didn't always know she wanted to be an event planner. After graduating from Cornell University's prestigious School of Hotel Administration, she headed west to California, working for some of the biggest names in the hospitality business. She quickly worked her way up the ranks at The Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, becoming one of the youngest senior members on both staffs to spearhead events. It was there that Jennifer realized her knack for bringing people together and making sure their every need was met could translate to a new line of work in the wedding industry.   Marrying her business acumen to her talent as a creative and strategic thinker, Jennifer moved back to New York and became the partner at The Wedding Library, a bridal design and retail shop, where she led the planning and events division for a decade. She struck out on her own in 2011 with the launch of JZ Events. Combining a methodical, collaborative approach with an innovative spirit, Jennifer has planned, designed, and executed hundreds of events in some of the most exciting stunning locales around the world (Necker Island, St. Barts, Ravello, Cap Ferrat, Amalfi Coast, Aspen, Paris, Florence, and San Francisco, to name just a few). Throughout that time, she has fostered close relationships with top vendors, including award- winning caterers, floral designers, and photographers, all of which means she knows just the right pro to carry out your vision.   “Most people don't come to me wanting to replicate someone else's event,” says Jennifer. “They want to do something that's never been done before, whether that's a new spin on a classic venue, finding a far-flung location to host a weekend-long celebration, or dreaming up a novel theme.” At the end of the day, she says, everyone wants to create something that's utterly unique. Achieving that goal for clients is the difference between a good planner and a great one.   Jennifer's work has been recognized in the pages of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, Brides, Glamour, The Knot, among many other magazines, blogs, and websites. She lives in New York City with her husband, two children, and dog, Gunner.   For more information, head to https://jzevents.com/ and follow @jzevents on Instagram.   Want a clear and comprehensive roadmap on how to succeed in the luxury wedding market? In the realm of ultra-luxury event design, the pressure to exceed the client's high expectations comes with the territory. Creatively speaking, it's hard to say no to the vision, and that requires us to constantly push the boundaries of what's possible. The work of designers is incredibly detailed and precise, and that can be a heavy energy expenditure to whoever's at the helm of that vision.   The designer's job is to push, cultivate and curate everyone around them to elevate to the level of that vision. That's something Rishi Patel does extremely well.   How do you create flexibility in a process that often requires set timelines and plans? How do you craft designs where everything serves a purpose instead of just stuffing rooms with details?   In this episode, the CEO and CCO of HMR Designs joins us to share how he went from finance to event design, and the process behind the work he delivers.   Guest Bio Rishi Patel is the CEO and CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER of HMR Designs. Named one of the top Wedding and Event Designers in the world by Harper's Bazaar, VOGUE, Brides and Martha Stewart Weddings, along with being recognized as Top 40 under 40, Rishi remains one of the most highly coveted event designers among discerning clientele and notable figures alike. An advocate for fully transformative design, he specializes in celebrations of all kinds – all while adhering to the firm belief that service and guest experience are the cornerstone to great events and the definition of true luxury. From galas, to weddings, to milestone celebrations, any event is in his wheelhouse. An educational background in Finance and an MBA from Indiana University has afforded him the ability to lead the HMR team from a fiscal perspective – though it's his artistic passion that allows him to design the fantastical events he is known for. As much of a creative visionary as an astute business leader, Rishi's insistence on unconventionality has continuously transformed the landscape of event design while granting him the honor of designing events for some of the most notable figures, families and organizations in the world.   A loyal Chicago native and avid traveler, Rishi regularly seeks inspiration from whatever cultural landscape he can find himself in. The destination event and wedding world has allowed Rishi and the HMR team to embrace so many incredible regions and pockets of the world to create spectacular events. Regardless of the marvelous adventures in design that await him, Rishi will always consider himself an artist at heart. For more information, head to https://hmrdesigns.com/.

In this Build and Bloom photography podcast episode, I am joined by my good friend Afrik Armando. Afrik is a wedding photographer whose work has been featured in Vogue, Forbes, Martha Stewart Weddings, The New York Times, and Elle. This episode will be the sigh of relief you didn't know you needed. We will discuss how to make wise decisions when joining high-ticket coaching programs, masterminds, destination-styled workshops, and even online courses. We need to do so many things first with the free, low-ticket, and medium-ticket resources out there before jumping to high-ticket programs. I am discussing spending 10k, 20k, or even 30k for a mastermind, group coaching, mentoring, or mentoring./online course hybrid programs. With so many ads targeted at us, from “join this mastermind to make 10k a month” to “enroll in my year-long coaching program and make 100k”, it's easy to fall into temptation and click “add to cart” when we aren't ready or can't afford it. In this episode, we will discuss how to navigate making smart financial decisions in your business, how to get creative and do it yourself, and how to spot false promises.  Follow Afrik: https://www.instagram.com/afrikarmando/ Afrik's website: https://afrikarmando.com/weddingportfolio/  WHAT'S NEXT: Join The B+B Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/buildandbloomjessicawhitaker/ Follow Jessica on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessicawhitaker Follow the Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/buildandbloom/ This podcast has been made possible by: Business Basics: https://www.jessicawhitaker.co/photography-business-basics-course Honeybook, the ultimate client management program: https://www.jessicawhitaker.co/photography-tool-honeybook Narrative, the $6 photo culling software: https://www.jessicawhitaker.co/photography-blog-tool Contractista, reliable lawyer-drafted Photography Contracts: https://www.jessicawhitaker.co/photography-contract-template
