The Rizzuto Show
Eagle Calls and Eulogies: A Comedy Tribute

The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 28, 2026 33:40

Some episodes are carefully constructed journeys through comedy, culture, and the human condition. This one starts with an eagle call, gets yelled at by an offended listener, drinks imaginary Malört, sends Riz back to college, remembers the horrors of Rotten.com, and eventually makes everybody emotional over Dolly Parton. So… basically the same thing.Episode 101 of The Rizzuto Show kicks off with Team JB and the Zero Prostate Cancer Run and Walk in memory of our buddy Jeff Burton, plus Greek Fire getting ready for a show benefiting Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Then we get into one of radio's oldest traditions: somebody getting mad enough at the show to contact the bosses. This time, a listener wasn't thrilled about the proximity of the Porno Birthday to a children's charity announcement. Riz got the dreaded “Can I see you before you leave?” message, and suddenly we're debating whether everybody is too easily offended, whether people need to watch what they say, and whether society could possibly locate that mythical middle ground where empathy and a sense of humor coexist.Rafe brings the comedian's perspective to the argument, including the audience member who loves 99 jokes but desperately needs to inform you about the one they didn't like. Our solution remains remarkably simple: maybe leave that joke at the club and take the other ones home. Then it's time for E Memoriam, where this comedy podcast says goodbye to the things that technically don't require a eulogy but absolutely deserve one anyway.First victim: Malört.We discover that Malört has somehow created an entire identity around tasting terrible. Most companies try to convince customers their product is delicious. Malört basically dares you to survive it. The gang dives into its hilariously hostile marketing, its reputation as Chicago's favorite way to punish a friend, and the important question nobody has apparently answered: Is anyone ordering this stuff because they actually enjoy it?From there, we say farewell to Sam Rizzuto's dream of college independence after Riz tours the University of Arkansas and realizes he might want the full college experience himself. Suddenly we're imagining a Back to School scenario where father and son become Razorbacks together, share a dorm, take Intro to Communications, and graduate in the same class. Nothing weird about that whatsoever, Sam. Your new roommate just happens to be Dad.The E Memoriam keeps rolling through an alleged NFL-owner prostitution story before taking a hard nostalgic turn toward two artifacts from the Internet's lawless frontier: Rotten.com and terrible Hotmail addresses.Kids today have algorithms delivering disturbing content directly to them. We had to type Rotten.com into a Gateway computer, wait for a 56k modem to connect, and then stare helplessly as a horrifying JPEG loaded one traumatic horizontal strip at a time. And Hotmail? Hotmail was where an entire generation created email addresses at 14 without considering the possibility that someday they might need to send a résumé or refinance a house. Nothing screams “results-oriented professional” quite like an inbox name created by a teenage boy in 2001.But then the show changes gears. The real RIPs begin with tributes to Peter Cullen and Tim Curry, celebrating two remarkable careers and the voices, characters, movies, and performances they left behind. Finally, Rafe delivers a deeply personal tribute to Dolly Parton.Rather than simply listing accomplishments, he reflects on what Dolly represented to a small-town kid with ridiculous dreams: proof that where you begin doesn't determine where you finish. He talks about her ability to become enormously successful without becoming ashamed of where she came from, to take her work seriously without taking herself too seriously, and to stand for something without treating everyone who disagreed with her like an enemy. It's funny, sincere, personal, and probably more emotionally responsible than anything surrounding the previous discussion of Malört.That's The Rizzuto Show: sarcastic humor, weird news, questionable nostalgia, entertainment commentary, and occasionally a moment that reminds us there are actual human beings behind these microphones.Come for the ridiculous stories. Stay for the unexpected feelings. And enjoy another comedy podcast episode that proves we can apparently make the emotional journey from horrible liquor to Dolly Parton in roughly half an hour.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Rizzuto Show

Today's episode begins exactly where every respectable radio program should: debating canned chili and whether The Rizzuto Show should abandon broadcasting altogether to open a chili parlor. Because apparently decades of radio experience were merely preparation for serving questionable bowls of meat during a St. Louis summer. The crew gets into a disturbing local story involving two kittens rescued after being thrown from a moving vehicle, which launches a conversation about animal cruelty, punishment, and why there have been so many bizarre animal-abuse cases around the St. Louis area. Thankfully, the kittens are recovering, because this show has enough emotional damage without adding more. Then we head to the amusement park formerly known as Six Flags, talk about its new Mid America Adventure identity, and immediately start remembering the various roller coasters that have spent decades attempting to rearrange our internal organs. That leads us to California's X2 coaster and reports of riders suffering terrifying medical emergencies. Naturally, half the room hears “brain hemorrhage” and responds like someone just announced a new thrill ride they absolutely have to try.Rafe also gives us an update from the dating world, including his Texas connection and the increasingly complicated rules surrounding modern romance. That turns into the question every hopeless romantic eventually has to answer: is a grand gesture thoughtful… or are you about three seconds away from appearing in somebody's “THIS GUY IS A CREEP” TikTok?A guy goes on two dates with a woman, finds her address without asking, and sends her Mother's Day flowers supposedly from her dog. Sweet? Creepy? Thirsty? The Rizz Show Supreme Court is now in session, and absolutely nobody involved has passed the bar.Apparently this question is complicated enough to involve law enforcement, surveillance footage, social media, and an actual public search for the guy who picked up the cash. Suddenly our daily comedy podcast has become CSI: Walmart, where the suspect is armed with three ten-dollar bills and an extremely debatable interpretation of “finders keepers.”We also get into air-travel nightmares after a pilot suffers a medical emergency during a flight and still manages to help get the plane safely on the ground. Meanwhile, Moon is preparing to fly, which is exactly the kind of story you want to hear immediately before heading to an airport. The episode's namesake saga involves Yolanda Jackson, a drive-through order, a dangerously hot pot pie, severe burns, permanent scarring, and the resulting courtroom battle. Nothing says daily comedy quite like discovering your food apparently requires protective equipment. It's another episode filled with St. Louis stories, weird news, dating disasters, food catastrophes, questionable financial ethics, amusement-park trauma, and the kind of conversations that start somewhere reasonable before wandering directly into the woods.Dust off that giant binder of scratched CDs you definitely didn't throw away because apparently funny podcast history has come full circle: physical media is making a comeback. The show kicks off with the surprising resurgence of CDs, with sales jumping while vinyl growth slows down. Why? Turns out paying nearly $40 for a new record eventually makes people reconsider the humble compact disc. Gen Z is getting into CDs, independent record stores are stocking more of them, older cars still have CD players, and there's something comforting about owning music that can't suddenly disappear from a streaming service. Moon also realizes those boxes of old band CDs might not be useless relics after all. Congratulations to everyone who refused to clean out their basement. Your moment has arrived. Then Crap on Celebrities takes us directly into the wildly expensive world of Hollywood memorabilia. A screen-matched mosquito-in-amber prop from the original Jurassic Park sells for more than $400,000, while Christopher Reeve's Superman gear and John Travolta's famous Saturday Night Fever suit also bring ridiculous money at auction. The crew also gets into entertainment news, including the changing timeline between theatrical releases and streaming, Toy Story 5, a live-action Scooby-Doo prequel, and Ghost taking a hiatus after Tobias Forge admits he doesn't currently have a clear vision for the band's next album. We salute a man willing to say, “I don't know what the next thing is yet,” instead of releasing twelve remixes and a commemorative popcorn bucket. Then there's Grand Theft Auto. The latest massive GTA preview sends the room into gamer mode as the crew talks about the gigantic map, Jason and Lucia's evolving relationship, smarter cops, surveillance cameras, changing disguises, massive police chases and an enormous story that could consume roughly 80 hours of your life.Chris Novoselic. Danny Carey. Mick Fleetwood. Buckethead. Joey Ramone. Billy Corgan. Angus Young. Prince. Glenn Danzig. Stevie Nicks. The measurements are flying, everyone suddenly seems either seven feet tall or legally eligible for a booster seat, and we discover once again that stage presence apparently adds about eight inches.Carefully constructed journeys through comedy, culture, and the human condition. This one starts with an eagle call, gets yelled at by an offended listener, drinks imaginary Malört, sends Riz back to college, remembers the horrors of Rotten.com, and eventually makes everybody emotional over Dolly Parton. Is there any difference now between the Democratic Socialists of America and Islamists? Glenn discusses the update in the lawsuit against Meta after the company was accused of purposefully designing Facebook and Instagram to be addictive for children. Will Lake Ontario actually be changed to Lake America? Glenn explains how nations worldwide are changing their demographics by admitting countless immigrants and then refusing to let citizens call it an invasion. Glenn gives the history of puberty blockers in children and debunks the idea that these blockers are beneficial. Former investment banker Carol Roth joins Glenn to discuss the affordability issue in America and the rising price of beef. Anthony pushes back throughout, setting up a heated back-and-forth over whether this is Ken's first real shot at the coaching staff.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Reddington Rips Apart FBI Witness's Untested Claims

An FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit psychiatrist spent today's session in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial getting picked apart on cross-examination, and it wasn't pretty. Dr. Gregory Saathoff testified in the case of the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Reddington's cross-examination exposed how much of Saathoff's account rested on secondhand information. On the 911 call, Saathoff admitted he heard only grunts from Clancy — not the statement about trying to kill herself, which came from Patrick Clancy's testimony. The claim that Clancy crushed pills also traced back to Patrick, with nothing tested to verify it, leaving Reddington to ask how the empty bottles wound up in a drawer if no one checked. Saathoff acknowledged psychosis can produce false memories and distorted recollection of events. He also revealed he never personally tried to speak with Clancy's mother, relying entirely on the DA's office telling him she was unwilling — he didn't ask Reddington for access either. On redirect, ADA Jennifer Sprague had him walk through his postpartum psychosis experience, including two patients who became psychotic on a drug that's since been discontinued, and he called Dr. Tufts' treatment of Clancy appropriate.Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood the nature of her actions. She allegedly attempted suicide afterward by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.LinksJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Then the Jets-Giants comparisons get heated. Callers push back on Shaun's pessimism about the Jets, sparking arguments over Malik Nabers versus Garrett Wilson, the two teams' skill-position talent, and whether the Jets' young tight ends deserve the hype. Shaun keeps coming back to the same conclusion: the Jets still stink, no matter how much potential their offense may have.

Lindsay Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is on trial in Plymouth Superior Court on three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, accused of killing her children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 7 months — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She's pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is running an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. If direct examination was about Dr. Kirk Heilbrun's conclusions, cross was about his credentials — and Reddington went at them hard. He got Heilbrun to admit his evaluation of Clancy happened roughly three years after the killings, and got him to concede on the record that earlier is better when it comes to assessing someone's mental state after an offense. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of his own methodology. Heilbrun also testified he'd treated four or five women who'd killed their children — about 44 years ago. Reddi

Pags reacts to the arrest of a suspect in the vandalism at Washington's World War II Memorial and asks whether America desperately needs to rethink how it handles people suffering from severe mental illness. He then has the latest on the USS Abraham Lincoln as the carrier prepares to return home amid controversy over living conditions aboard the ship. Pags also unloads after Rep. Joaquin Castro receives the Hispanic Heritage Award for Public Service and turns his attention to President Trump's push for the SAVE America Act. Joe isn't convinced Republicans will actually get it passed—and listeners call in asking why the GOP talks about fighting but so often fails to deliver. Then YouTuber, reporter and storyteller Alessi Allaman joins Pags for a disturbing deep dive into Flock cameras. Why are these surveillance cameras seemingly everywhere—including near parks and pools? Who can access what they record? And are some law-enforcement officers actually abusing the technology to track women? Allaman reveals what he's uncovered about the surveillance system quietly expanding across America—and why you may want to start paying much closer attention. Learn more about your ad choices. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer tore into Leon Black for what he described as a bad-faith effort to obstruct Congress's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. After Black refused to answer questions during his voluntary interview about nondisclosure agreements involving women, Comer subpoenaed him to return for a sworn deposition and ordered him to produce the agreements. Black subsequently turned over only one NDA, involving former model Guzel Ganieva, prompting Comer to accuse him of withholding material the committee had specifically demanded. Comer warned that Black's refusal to provide complete answers and documents could lead to contempt proceedings and a criminal referral, making clear that the billionaire would not be permitted to dictate which parts of his Epstein relationship Congress was allowed to examine.Comer emphasized that the NDAs were not a side issue because investigators wanted to know whether Epstein helped negotiate the agreements, participated in payments to women or possessed information that could explain the extraordinary financial relationship between the two men. Black paid Epstein approximately $158 million for tax and estate-planning services and later paid $62.5 million to resolve potential claims brought by the U.S. Virgin Islands. Black's attorney insisted he had complied and claimed the Ganieva agreement was the only relevant NDA Epstein knew about, but Comer plainly was not buying that explanation. His response amounted to a direct accusation that Black had stonewalled the committee, provided an incomplete production and continued hiding behind lawyers and confidentiality agreements rather than giving Congress and Epstein's survivors the transparency they had been promised.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Comer blasts Epstein associate stonewalling on demands: ‘This is unacceptable' - Raw Story

Glenn discusses the issues with government regulations, specifically those on diesel trucks and the DEF system and those on energy, as these regulations drive up costs for consumers, reduce reliability, and erode Americans' ownership of their vehicles, power, water, and property. CNN blames President Trump for the current political divide in America, but Glenn points out all the divisive rhetoric from prominent Democrat politicians who have actively fueled America's divide. Glenn discusses the group "Patriot Front" and the recent viral incident involving a black woman on the Metro in Washington, D.C. The Democratic Party today is radically different than 40 years ago, as it has gotten progressively more radical and open to socialism. Socialists will point to Denmark or Sweden when defending socialism, but Glenn lays out why places like Denmark aren't actually operating under socialism and exposes the intellectual dishonesty of conflating socialism with how these countries operate. Mercy Culture Church, Washington, D.C., lead pastor Jaco Booyens joins to discuss what's happening with faith and religion in the nation's capital.
