Listening to the ongoing Democratic debates, primary and caucuses the term bleeding heart liberal popped into my head. Now gardening is NOT a political activity, nor should it be. The garden bleeding heart is such a wonderful and sophisticated flower in all its varieties and species. But is there a garden plant that might better describe liberals, or conservatives, or even independents? Callers gave some good ones...listen as see if you don't agree. Until next time...we'll see you in the garden. -Len

Our Memorial Day weekend show was loaded with questions from listeners and skillfully crafted answers from Lisa, Bob and myself. Joey B. was our fill-in producer. What a thrill to work with him again! Why Poppies for Memorial day? Do Silver maples really have value? Can you plant onions too close together? Does a Mosquito plant really keep mosquitoes away? Hmmmm. Just in case here is the recipe for our famous, Garden Talk, natural mosquito repellent. It makes you smell good too: In 1 cup of water and 2 cups white vinegar add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and 8 drops of peppermint essential oil. Shake well and apply to clothing or skin. Essential oils can be purchased at local food co-ops, or health food stores. We'll see you in the garden. Len
Another wonderful and informative show... at least Len learned a lot. Questions all over the gardening spectrum. Lobster Bob at his best. Until next time... we'll see you in the garden.

Our whole show this week was dedicated to spreading the word on the Emerald Ash Borer: what it is, how it got here, what its doing, what you can do about it, where its going and how it affects you. Chances are it will, and it may cost you money or worse. Oh sure we had fun with other stuff too, but you really have got to listen to this informative show featuring Dr. Claire Rutledge, Entomologist from Connecticut's own New Haven Agricultural Experiment Station....and Katie, her very smart daughter. Until next time...we'll see you in the garden.
