In this episode, coupled with a mixture of storytelling, philosophizing and lamenting, I cover the historical occasion of Soren Kierkegaard's and Regine Olsen' broken engagement. Although I provide no speculative comments, the purpose of this discussion is to highlight a quality of reflective religiousness in the present listener - should they dare to proceed.
Emergent thoughts from your present author.
In this episode, I have a round table discussion with the "Philosophy Bros": Eric Evans ("Conscious Philosophy) and his brother Kyle Evans, Seth Guillon and James Bergman ("Ahead of the Curve") whom I had conversed with just the day prior regarding Kierkegaard. In this episode, all of us sit down to discuss death, Christianity, agnosticism, and pretty much everything else under the sun. Enjoy!
This is my sit-down interview with James Bergman, writer and YouTube personality who is a professed agnostic-atheist. In this interview, we discuss Soren Kierkegaard and his relation to some key themes of faith-experience (the absurd, the paradox, etc). Enjoy!
In this episode, I explore the philosophical meaning behind the podcasts name: "The Instant." Enjoy!
In this episode, I provide some commentary on my recent debate with Mosster, otherwise known as PhilosoPoet. In Part I, I outline very briefly my approach to a mode of religious communication - or, how ethico-religious truths are to be communicated to individuals. Next, I discuss some metaphysical points as to how philosophy can provide grounds for fostering potential belief in the future.
In this episode, I introduce some of the metaphysical underpinnings regarding Aristotle's doctrine of the soul.
In this episode, I introduce a new philosophical series on the self and some preliminary philosophical anthropology.
Part II of my conversation with Corey Plummer!
In this new episode of "The Instant," Steven Dunn throws off the new podcast with an interview on Deconstruction within the Christian faith with Corey Plummer. This episode features the first hour and a half of that conversation: enjoy!
In this episode, I look at the advice from various Christian (and non-Christian) intellectuals who have spoken on what are some essential qualities of becoming an author.
In this episode, I provide some brief musings about life, theology, prayer and simplicity. Enjoy!
In this episode, I sit down with a good friend of mine - Samuel Watkinson -where we discuss various topics from the nature of religious discourse, the Trinity, Protestantism and Catholicism, existentialism, Marxism and other subjects. I hope you enjoy!
In this episode, I briefly tackle some comments on rhetoric by Aristotle and Soren Kierkegaard to better address the character of the Christian apologist - and how they can be a more effective/influential communicator. Enjoy!
In this episode, I develop some minor details of an apologetic method which finds inspiration from the writings of Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855). Enjoy!
In this episode, I expound on the concept of Irony as it appears in the thought of Socrates and Soren Kierkegaard.
In this episode, I provide some lamentative thoughts about the Nazi party's attitudes towards art and how this conversation has relevance to theology and suffering.
In this episode, I talk about the feature of 'interiority,' which I argue is indicative of the religious life wherein the individual wills themselves to be a self before God.
In this episode, I offer a brief treatment as to why it is important to investigate further a phenomenology of religion which best attempts to ask *and answer the question, "What does it mean to be spiritual?"
Merry Christmas! In this brief episode, I offer some encouragement to mothers on the subject of spiritual birth. Inspiration for this episode was primarily provided by my reading of Martin Luther's pastoral encouragement to women with failed pregnancies. Grace and peace to all of you!
In this episode, I discuss my favorite reads of 2020 and how they've impacted my own spirituality. Enjoy!
In this episode, I provide a reading of some meditative thoughts that I published on the blog at "Hellenistic Christendom."
In this episode, I accepted and answered some questions that various individuals may have about the life and philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard.
In this episode I address the various perspectives one could take on the statement "God exists." Apart from the obvious denial of this claim (atheism) or the affirmation of it (theism), there is some help from the field of philosophy to aid us in understanding exactly how it is people have denied God's existence, affirmed it and even been unsure about it. Enjoy!
In this episode, I extract the audio from a video presentation I took from my YouTube channel, "Hellenistic Christendom" to discuss Soren Kierkegaard's religious philosophy through an experience of "fine art." Get ready to feel fancy!
In this episode, I proceed with part II of my lecture on Soren Kierkegaard's religious psychology to cover more particularly his treatment of anxiety and sex. Enjoy!
In this episode, I post here the first part of the fourth installment into my Soren Kierkegaard Lecture Series (the rest you can find on YouTube). Part I has to do with the use and structure of religious psychology in Kierkegaard's pseudonymous writings. This episode covers his concept of the "self as spirit," his understanding of psychology and evangelism as well as some comments on how to better read/understand Kierkegaard. Please enjoy!
In this episode, I address some brief and typical misconceptions of the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, ranging from his alleged "irrationalism" to his supposed vehement denial of apologetics.
In this episode, I gave a lecture on the question of whether or not the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) - so called the "Father of Existentialism" - was actually an existentialist associated with the camp of Camus, Sartre and others. In this lecture, I argue that Kierkegaard was a Christian thinker unique to his own category. However, he was expressively religious in areas which have significant convergence with the classical theist tradition as we find it from Aristotle, Plato, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas and others. Enjoy!
In this episode, I address some brief thoughts on the universals and particulars debate as it relates to God.
In this episode, I address some comments from a YouTube atheist by the name of John Lopilato on the doctrine of heaven and hell. This episode isn't so much of apologetic value as it is just a brief theological explication on the nature of man.
