Charissa Bates is my guest today, and you're in for such a beautifully inspiring story. With a little Harry Potter thrown in. Charissa is a mother to three and is a survivor of a rare and aggressive cancer. She works as a Children's Mental Health Therapist and enjoys serving and volunteering. Charissa loves her Little Free Library that looks like Hogwarts. As a long time Harry Potter fan myself, this is one of the coolest little free libraries I've ever seen. Charissa enjoys creating and bringing her children on adventures, camping, and traveling. During cancer Charissa discovered how therapeutic writing was for her. Thus, three books were born: We Find Joy: Cancer Messed with the Wrong Family, The Traveling Book and I'm a good neighbor like Jesus. She lives by the words "Find Joy". Again, her most important role is being able to watch her three beautiful children grow up. From a young age, I always wanted to be a novelist. I was always writing stories and daydreaming about things that could be. As an adult, I did not initially pursue this as a career because I wanted to build a family, and I thought it was not feasible economically. Instead, I wrote website content and translated documents into English from multiple foreign languages. More recently, I built a successful digital marketing agency with my wife Alcione. In that agency, we have helped numerous entrepreneurs to each sell millions of dollars in info products. That experience has caused me to believe that I can actually make a go as an independent novelist, without an agent or a publisher. I want to show others that they can bring their dreams to reality, both in the stories they want to tell and in the life that they want to build. https://www.ronaldmkimmons.com/free-novella Thank you for listening to The Curious Creatrix podcast. The Underworld of a Story's Third Act is symbolically important for creating powerful and realistic change with your characters and plot.
Writers can use the metaphoric Adventure World of a story's Second Act to better understand this crucial part of story structure.
If you want to deepen the complexity of your story's theme, one tool you can employ is Robert McKee's thematic square.
Examines the role of the antagonist in the second half of a story's structure--the Second Pinch Point through the Resolution.
Ask these important questions to make sure the passage of time in a story is strengthening rather than weakening its narrative power.
