The Pamplin Media Group announced Monday that the Portland Tribune and more than two dozen of its other local newspapers in Oregon had been sold to Mississippi-based Carpenter Media Group. As reported in Willamette Week, Ross Island Sand & Gravel, part of R.B. Pamplin Corp., has been under fire for its failure to refill the cavernous hole it dug while mining the Willamette River bottom from 1926 to 2001. The R.B. Pamplin Corp., which has a variety of business holdings, had been struggling financially for some time. On the same day, EO Media Group, which runs 15 family-owned newspapers from Enterprise to Astoria, announced it would be cutting staff and looking into new ownership. We discuss these developments and their possible implications with Brent Walth, a long time investigative reporter who now teaches journalism and runs the Catalyst program at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism
The Building Safety Act 2022 brought with it a tide of new regulations and legal requirements for owners and occupiers of properties with a residential element. The vast majority of the Act is now in full force and effect in England and there are obligations for all occupiers of tall mixed use buildings – even those with purely commercial premises in such properties. If you're an owner or manager, do you know your safety case from your building assessment certificate, or your engagement strategy from your mandatory occurrence reporting? If you occupy commercial premises in a mixed use building, do you know how you could be affected by the Act?
The city of Chico is continuing to clear homeless encampments throughout the city. In its most recent enforcement, three encampments were cleared forcing 23 residents to relocate. Also, the Paradise Town Council is expected to vote on a plan for acquiring easements along the route of a proposed sewer line connection with Chico's water treatment facility, and the Butte County Board of Supervisors will consider approving a 5.2 million dollar grant from the state to help the behavioral health department expand its services.

From the Henssler Financial Studios, this is your news minute on the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast, presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. Today is Thursday July 6th, and I'm Brian GiffinPolice in Grayson arrested 23 individuals on criminal trespassing charges after discovering them having a party at an empty home without the homeowner's permission. The homeowner had called 911, reporting unauthorized people at his property, some of whom were allegedly displaying firearms. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the party attendees had no connection to the homeowner. This incident reflects a trend observed in southeast Gwinnett, where party organizers break into vacant houses to host events, leaving behind garbage and refuse. A flyer promoting the party was discovered, and several individuals depicted on it were among those arrested. The partygoers, primarily aged 17 to 20, were transported to the Gwinnett County Jail, and their vehicles were impounded. Criminal trespassing is a misdemeanor offense in Georgia, punishable by fines, jail time, or both. Notably, two of the arrestees had addresses from Indiana and Michigan, while most were Gwinnett County residents. For more news about our community, visit gwinnettdailypost.com . Last month, 22 environmental, public health and animal welfare advocacy groups sent a petition to the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission calling on it to regulate air pollution from large dairies. The petitioners want the state to require dairies with 700 or more cows to obtain an air emissions permit and conduct an air impact assessment of pollutants like methane and ammonia. They also claim that regulating emissions from large dairies is necessary for Oregon to comply with the federal Clean Air Act and meet the state's greenhouse gas reduction targets. But the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association claims that the regulations aren't necessary and would impose an additional financial burden on dairies which are already struggling with inflation and overtime pay requirements for farmworkers. Joining us are Alice Morrison, the organizational director of Friends of Family Farmers, an advocacy group which signed the petition, and Tami Kerr, the executive director of the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association.
