Where unqualified non-experts give unsolicited advice to major media corporations on what to do with all that intellectual property.
This time on IP Consultants Podcast, Vincent dusts off the ol' Swenglish accent in honor of Alicia Vikander and Ian tolerates it as they go on an honestly not very deep dive into the cavernous crypts of the Tomb Raider franchise to give some of the least qualified advice yet. You asked for it. You got it. Here it is. Indiana Jones: The Next Generation.
We were supposed to be here last week, but our pod got knocked off course-- Sorry, wrong Kryptonian. Is it a bird? A plane, perhaps? No, this week, Ian and Vincent discuss the Last Son of Krypton, the Man of Tomorrow, the first official superhero, Superman, and whether the big blue boy scout is worthy of a clean slate after having his name dragged in the mud in front of the current generation of movie goers by the very people hired to tell his story. Can the Man of Steel be saved? This looks like a job for the IP Consultants!
A series of games, a couple of movies, a topic Vincent knows basically nothing about and hasn't bothered to research. This week, Ian explains an IP to Vincent in the hopes of arriving at some idea of what should be done with it, and then Vincent spends most of two weeks procrastinating the editing, and then, at way past bedtime, tries to come up with an episode description. Put on your suit and red tie and get ready to make it look like an accident, because it's time to consult on Hitman. Or possibly sleep.
Well, gang, it looks like we have another mystery on our hands! Warner Bros. has bought a house built on top of an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon graveyard, and now they're being haunted. Let's see who this IP really is! Turns out it's nothing paranormal, just a talking Great Dane. Those meddling kids Ian and Vincent are once again putting their noses where they don't belong, this time to map out the future of Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Gang (not to be confused with the Scooby Gang, which is a whole different IP).
IP, uh, finds a way, and sometimes that way comes down to changing the title slightly so it's a double entendre that might get you out of the damn park eventually. This week, Ian and Vincent marvel at the wonders of the genetically modified and cloned natural world. That's how it always starts, but then later there's running and screaming.
His name is Bond. James Bond. Or so he says. He has a license to kill. Whatever that means. He's on Her Majesty's secret service, and he's kind of a terrible employee, but he gets the job done, so Her Majesty just sort of goes with it. He does a lot of drinking and gambling at work. He might have a problem. He's a relic of a bygone era and a walking lawsuit waiting to happen, but don't worry, because Ian and Vincent are here to figure out how to keep the name relevant. Will they succeed? Will the use all the gadgets and return none of them in one piece? Will they deliver a blend of obvious and unworkable ideas, shaken, not stirred? Find out in this week's IP Consultants Podcast!
We got one! Are you troubled by strange decisions in your franchise? Do you experience feelings of déjà vu in your sequel or reboot? Have you or your family ever seen a spinoff, crossover or expanded universe? If the answer is "yes," then don't wait another minute. Pick up the phone and tweet the professionals: @IPConsultPod! This week, in honor of the recent unreboot announcement, Ian and Vincent respectfully measure the PKE levels of the Ghostbusters franchise and try not to cross the streams as they figure out how to move forward in a way that can hopefully please anyone who's not a gatekeeper.
Slip into your Chucks, strap on your brother's Packers helmet and climb into the Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket, because this week, Ian and Vincent go on a journey of childlike wonder, babysitter-eating aliens, pogo sticks, dizzymaking rayguns and very little ammo, with the groundbreaking early-'90s MSDOS sci-fi platform game series Commander Keen! Where did it go? Where should it go? Listen and find out, and reach us on the photachyon transceiver (or Twitter, email, whatever's convenient) if you have a better idea!
After an accidentally extended hiatus and an episode stuck in the pipes, Ian and Vincent are finally back to figure out what approach Illumination should take with that Super Mario movie they're supposedly working on, while trying to get a handle on what the canon actually is according to creator Shigeru Miyamoto and whether he'll ever start making sense. What is Mario's last name? How much younger is his brother? What species are they? What do Smurves have to do with any of it? All these questions and more get barely touched upon in the first IP Consultants Podcast of 2019.
The Avengers 4 teaser is out and Ian and Vincent are once again forced to talk about the future of Marvel. Can they see John Cena in it? Can they fill an episode without completely running out of random names to drop? Find out in this year's final episode of IP Consultants! (Don't worry, it's coming back soon enough.)
Is it Shadowlaw or Shadaloo? Vega or M. Bison? M. Bison or Balrog? Balrog or Vega? This week, Ian and Vincent explore not only names but also love lost in translation, regrets, mind control and political assassinations, in an effort to get to the bottom of the eternal question: Who is the Street Fighter, really?
In this week's episode, Ian clings on for dear life as Vincent goes almost immediately off the deep end with a first attempt to describe the ultimate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, not from beginning to end but from the ground up. Utter chaos ensues and this is almost certainly not the last word on this topic.
In memory of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Vincent and Ian try to figure out how to bring one of their most fantastic collaborations to the screen - and to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - without repeating past failures.
Nothing says holiday spirit like getting started a month early, except maybe Die Hard. In this episode, Vincent and Ian try to get to the core of what Die Hard is really about and how to possibly rescue it from the rut it's been stuck in.
After concluding that the Back to the Future IP is best left alone, Ian and Vincent go on to pitch a whole bunch of ways to ruin it as little as possible. This is blasphemy.
This week, Ian and Vincent tell Amy Pascal what to do with that extended Spider-Verse, go on tangents about the Dark Universe and mental health, and then proceed to lose their grip on reality.
After catching up on the James Gunn Suicide Squad(?) situation, Ian and Vincent fantasize about a new adaptation of "The Mask", a little known Dark Horse comic by John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke based on an idea by Mike Richardson that has previously been turned into a much known movie, a vaguely remembered cartoon, and a best forgotten legacy sequel to the movie.
In this episode, Ian and Vincent try to figure out an ideal game plan for the Warner Bros. DC Comics movie Factory, and for some reason go on tangents about X-Men and faeries.
