May kicked my natural Black ass. After a month away from the podcast, I'm finally back behind the microphone. Not because everything is fixed. Not because life magically got easier. Simply because the storm let up enough for me to start moving forward again. In this solo episode, I'm sharing what happened during one of the toughest months I've had in a while. Between injuries, financial stress, family responsibilities, and watching my routines completely fall apart, I found myself slipping back into old habits and old coping mechanisms. The frustrating part?I knew better.I've spent years in therapy. I've had hundreds of conversations about healing, mental health, and self-improvement. Yet when life got heavy, I still found myself returning to the same default settings.Comfort TV.Sugar.Isolation.Survival mode.If you've ever felt like all your progress disappeared the moment life got hard, this episode is for you. We're talking about why healing isn't linear, why setbacks don't erase growth, and why sometimes the bravest thing you can do is sit under the underpass, let the worst of the storm pass, and then keep driving. In this episode:• Why stress often sends us back to old habits• The relationship between routine and emotional stability• What happens when survival mode takes over• Why setbacks don't cancel your progress• Learning to give yourself grace during difficult seasons• Continuing to fight for happiness even when life gets heavyIt's About DAMN Time we stop treating setbacks like failures and start seeing them for what they really are.Part of the journey.Connect with Me

Send us Fan MailHave you ever found yourself wanting to go back to something you already know you've outgrown?Maybe it's an old relationship. An old habit.A scarcity mindset.A way of thinking that feels familiar, even though it keeps you small. This morning, I sat down in my chair and heard one clear phrase in my spirit:Don't go back to Egypt. And I knew immediately what it meant. In the Bible, Egypt wasn't just a place. It represented bondage, captivity, limitation, and survival. The Israelites physically left Egypt in one night, but it took much longer to get the mindset of Egypt out of them. And honestly? I think we all have places like that.We can leave a toxic relationship but still carry toxic thinking. We can leave scarcity but still make every decision from fear.We can leave insecurity but still crave validation from everyone around us.We can step into freedom but still feel pulled backward by familiarity. That's the danger.Sometimes bondage feels safer simply because it's predictable. Freedom feels unfamiliar. Growth feels uncomfortable. The wilderness feels uncertain. But discomfort does not mean you're going in the wrong direction. In this episode, I'm talking about how to stop romanticizing the very things God delivered you from and how to renew your mind for the next season of your life.Because you cannot sustain a promised-land life with a slave mentality. You have to think differently. Speak differently.  Expect differently. And sometimes, you have to bless the past while deciding it no longer belongs in your future.I also share a personal moment when I realized I was being drawn back toward a relationship from my past. There was nothing wrong with the person, but I knew it wasn't where my future was. And sometimes that's the hardest part: recognizing that something can be good, meaningful, and valuable for a season without being meant to continue forever. If you've been circling the same mountain, revisiting the same fear, or feeling tempted to shrink back into what's comfortable, this episode is for you.Your future self will thank you for moving forward.Your future generations will thank you for moving forward. And the life God has for you is too important to spend staring into the rearview mirror.Don't go back to Egypt.Keep putting one foot in front of the other.Keep renewing your mind.Keep moving forward. You truly are more!Connect With Us:Website: https://www.youaremore.comJoin The 6AM Club Bible Study! Have you ever walked out of the arena thinking: “Why did I do that? I KNOW better.” Maybe you tense up in a showjumping round, lean forward at fences, hold your breath cross-country, freeze hacking out, or fall straight back into old riding habits the second pressure appears. In this episode, we dive into why riders revert to automatic patterns under stress, and why it's not because you're a “bad rider.” Your nervous system is always trying to protect you. That “bad habit” you keep judging yourself for? It probably started as a strategy that once helped you feel safe. This episode is a powerful conversation about rider psychology, nervous system responses, fear, identity, pressure, self-judgment, and how awareness is the first step to changing patterns in the saddle. In This Episode, We Learn: Why riders fall back into old habits under pressure The difference between “bad habits” and protective patterns How fear and stress affect riding performance Why your nervous system prioritizes familiarity over effectiveness The hidden danger of labeling yourself as a “nervous rider” How rider identity impacts confidence Why awareness is key to changing riding patterns Nervous system regulation tips for riders How to stop spiraling after mistakes Practical mindset shifts for riding under pressure Resources Mentioned: Coaching & support: https://www.mindeq.eu/coaching Follow Jocelin on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jocelinlillienau

I've been looking at the final check-ins for the 8-Week Rewire recently and a specific fear kept coming up: "I'm worried old habits will creep back in."It got me thinking about the language we use to shield ourselves from responsibility. We talk about weight "creeping on" or habits "creeping in" as if they are things that happen to us rather than choices we make.In this episode, I'm diving into why you're actually a victim of your own "diet holidays" and how to stop being a passenger in your own life.In this episode, I cover:Why we use specific language to protect ourselves from the impact of our choices. The "Diet Travel Agent" trap and why every diet holiday eventually has to end.The difference between yoyo dieting and just having your weight go up and down. How to stop "bottling up" your habits and start actually deconstructing them. Why your screen time, your steps, and your weight are just casualties of your underlying coping mechanisms. The uncomfortable work of identifying trauma and emotional eating triggers. How to stand your ground and finally ask "why am I doing this?"If you found this helpful, please take a second to rate the show on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. In this thought-provoking episode, Dr. Joshua Hays examines how structural precarity, market-driven institutional logics, and unsupportive organizational climates shape engagement, burnout, and disengagement among adjunct faculty. Drawing on established psychological research, he reframes disengagement not as individual failure, but as a predictable outcome of system design. Do your negative thoughts secretly sabotage your health goals? When that inner voice says "you're too busy," "you have no willpower," or "you've failed again," is it telling the truth or just repeating old patterns that hold you back? Jenn introduces a practical mental tool to interrupt the defeating thought loops we all experience on our wellness journeys. But here's the real question: are you actually too tired for that workout, or is something else going on? Could the "evidence" of failure actually be hiding signs of progress you're refusing to see? Jenn breaks down how to catch these negative thoughts in action, challenge the beliefs behind them, and ultimately transform your inner dialogue. But the approach might surprise you. When the body and brain perceive threat, overload or pressure, they default to what is familiar, even if it is no longer helpful. In this episode, you will learn how lasting change happens when we work with the nervous system rather than against it.We explore how clinical somatic movement and pandiculation are used to interrupt habitual patterns stored in the nervous system. Pandiculation is a voluntary, slow and mindful contraction followed by a controlled release. This process helps the brain receive new sensory feedback from the body, updating outdated motor patterns and reducing unconscious tension.By bringing awareness to the body and gently re engaging the brain body connection, the nervous system is given new information. This allows old habits to soften and dissolve without force, discipline or pushing through resistance.Rather than asking “Why can't I change?”, this approach invites a different question “What is my nervous system protecting me from?”In this episode, Heidi covers: • Why willpower is unreliable under stress • How habits are formed and maintained by the nervous system • The role of sensory feedback in changing behaviour • How pandiculation interrupts unconscious patterns • Why slowing down creates faster long term change • How to create safety in the body so new habits can emergeThis is an episode for anyone who feels stuck in patterns they intellectually understand but struggle to change, whether those habits relate to movement, posture, pain, stress responses, thoughts or behaviours.Join the Global Free Online EventIf this episode resonates with you, Heidi warmly invites you to join her for the global FREE online event, Navigating Midlife, taking place over the weekend of 21st and 22nd February 2026.This online summit brings together practical, evidence informed conversations and tools to support midlife with greater ease, clarity and nervous system regulation. To register for the Navigating Midlife online summit, visit TotalSomatics.com/MidlifeI would love to have you there.

What does "explaining the why" really mean and why does it go so wrong? In this episode of The Leadership Hustle, Andrea Fredrickson and Michelle Hill unpack the leadership habit of reducing "why" to a generic, tactical explanation. The result? Confused teams, underperformance, and a lack of buy-in. Andrea and Michelle share real-life coaching examples of what happens when leaders skip the story behind the strategy. You'll learn how to create clarity, deepen connection, and get the results you're after just by slowing down to explain the real reason. If you're tired of repeating yourself or wondering why your team doesn't take initiative, this episode is your playbook. For more resources on developing leadership skills visit us at Revela. Send Steve a Text MessageYou know that feeling when a year goes by and your playing sounds the same? We've been there—wanting confidence, freedom on the fretboard, and finished songs, yet slipping back into the same routines that never moved the needle. Today we draw a line in the sand and break the loop of repetition without intention, turning scattered practice into focused action that actually builds skill. We start by naming the real culprits: scrolling instead of focusing, collecting riffs but never finishing songs, and avoiding the parts of guitar that feel uncomfortable. Then we shift to what works. We walk through a clear, simple framework: pick one goal, commit to short daily practice blocks, lean into weak spots at a manageable pace, and prioritize phrasing, rhythm, and fretboard awareness over random licks. You'll hear how small, honest wins stack into trust, and how trust becomes confidence you can feel both on the fretboard and in life.Along the way, we connect the dots between mindset and mechanics. Old habits don't create new results, and confidence doesn't arrive by wishing. It grows from consistent, intentional reps and the choice to finish what you start. Whether you've quit before, feel too old, or think you're not talented enough, this is your clean page. Make 2026 the year you stop repeating and start becoming the guitarist you want to be—one focused session at a time.If you want support, we invite you to talk with us about Guitar Zoom Academy. No pressure, no card required—just a real conversation about what could help you move forward. As a beginner unlearning decades-old tennis habits, Mark experiences firsthand how execution errors, muscle memory, and self-criticism can quietly undermine learning. A kind instructor and supportive playing partners provide timely feedback—without blame—turning mistakes into moments of growth. The story becomes a practical metaphor for leadership, psychological safety, and continuous improvement. Mark connects a missed serve, an illegal volley, and other rookie mistakes to familiar workplace dynamics: fear of speaking up, hesitation to give feedback, and cultures that confuse mistakes with incompetence. Drawing on themes from his book The Mistakes That Make Us, he explores the difference between judgment errors and execution errors, why unlearning is often harder than learning, and how leaders set the tone for Kaizen through their reactions.Whether in sports, healthcare, manufacturing, or office work, improvement depends on environments where people feel safe to surface mistakes, reflect, and adjust—one learning cycle at a time.

Early in learning the sport, Mark found his old tennis instincts taking over, leading to a very incorrect serve and a moment of embarrassment. Supportive coaching, timely correction, and a friendly playing environment turned an awkward mistake into a productive one. Mark reflects on why unlearning is often harder than learning, and how leaders can create conditions where people feel safe enough to improve.

How can we shift our thinking in order to break a pattern? And how can we take positive action to make transformative changes in our lives? That's the focus of Scott Miller's new book, “Master Mentors Vol. 2.” It examines key insights from 30 of the world's most transformational leadership thinkers – including Seth Godin, Susan Cain, General Stanley McChrystal and more – and provides simple steps to implement the same insights in your own life.  In today's episode, Scott joins me to talk about the most valuable lessons he's learned from his own mentor, the concept of transformational insight, the subtle nuances between self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence, why vulnerability is a key element of leadership, and more. “I think the power of transformation has the power for you to see yourself differently. It has the power for you to challenge your paradigm, your mindset, your belief system, to say, gosh, I always thought about gratitude in this way, but now I'm gonna think about gratitude in this way. Or I thought about what's next for me or my business model. They're personal and professional. I think it's really intended to help kind of shake you to say you've been in this pattern of thinking this line of behavior and just shaking a little bit to say, is that serving you well? Is that serving those around you?” – Scott (06:03) Top 3 Takeaways  A mentor can be anyone. “I don't think you have to know or be in an intimate relationship, professional relationship with your mentor at all,” Scott says. It doesn't matter that you can't meet with them for one-on-one guidance; a mentor is anyone who helps you understand how to improve your life, and in the age of podcasts and YouTube, you can get that wisdom in a variety of ways.  Try to assume positive intent. Everybody makes mistakes, and sometimes even the most well-intended words come out wrong. A person's words say more about them than they do about you.  Self-worth is inherent and unchanging. “Self-esteem and your self-confidence ebbs and flows based on your sense of self and the kind of relationships you're in and the things that you do that you value or don't value,” Scott says. “But your self-worth cannot be changed and no one else can change it.” In This Episode (01:13) Why you don't need to meet your mentor to benefit from their wisdom (05:21) Scott's definition of a transformational insight (07:14) The practical applications of insights, and using them to transform your life (11:30) Bobby Herrera's life-changing bus ride (22:50) Self-worth vs self-esteem vs self-confidence (31:51) “Your future truth should be your present.” (36:03) BJ Fogg and the power of tiny pattern-breaking habits Resources & Links Billy Samoa  https://billysamoa.com/ https://www.facebook.com/BillySamoaSaleebey/ https://twitter.com/BillySamoa https://www.instagram.com/billybelieve/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCjQ9RSxYqDS4_VxBHNyQJw https://www.linkedin.com/in/billysamoa/ https://billysamoa.com/podcast-archive/ https://billysamoa.com/video-carousel/ https://billysamoa.com/blog-with-sidebar/ Scott Miller https://www.scottjeffreymiller.com/ https://www.facebook.com/scottmillerj1 https://twitter.com/scottmillerj1 https://www.instagram.com/scottjeffreymiller/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottmillerj1/ Mentioned https://tinyhabits.com/book/ https://bobby-herrera.com/ https://www.franklincovey.com/speakers-bureau/sean-covey/ This is an encore episode and was originally published on August 26, 2022 Learn more about your ad choices.
