In the sixtieth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, host/moderator Steve Riddle welcomes Jeremy Nichols and Mirandia Berthhold to discuss which Video Game Songs deserve a place on their respective lists. Is the original Super Mario Bros. theme a no-brainer? What about the Overworld Theme from the Legend of Zelda? Does the Wii Sports theme grab a spot? Does Nearly Civilized from James Bond 007: Nightfire or Sweden from Minecraft deserve a place? After that, they discuss which Video Game Soundtracks will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City/Stories shouldn't get a spot? Will Mega Man 2 be included? Is World of Warcraft in the conversation? What about The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

From the springy jump sound to the iconic Overworld Theme, the sound of Super Mario Bros. is instantly recognizable. With just five lo-fi audio channels and 40 kilobytes of space, composer Koji Kondo created a soundscape full of unforgettable melodies. In this episode, we explore how Kondo's playful instincts, rhythmic trickery, and love of jazz fusion defined the sound of Mario. Send us a textStepping into the pixelated world of Minecraft proves to be a blocky disaster as we break down everything wrong with Hollywood's latest video game adaptation. Jack Black brings his signature energy as Steve, but rather than feeling authentic, his performance comes across as a greatest hits compilation played in the wrong venue – a Jack Black impersonator rather than the real deal. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa provides some genuine comedic moments as a saving grace in an otherwise disjointed experience. The fundamental flaw of this film lies in its jarring visual approach – real actors placed against CGI backdrops create a constant disconnect that prevents full immersion. While the Minecraft world itself looks beautiful with its colorful blocks contrasting nicely against the deliberately sterile real world, the human characters never feel like they belong. This creative choice stands in stark contrast to fully animated successes like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Wreck-It Ralph, which committed to consistent visual worlds with relatable characters. What's most frustrating is how the film fails to understand its own audience. The moments that generated the most excitement – faithful recreations of game elements like zombies, skeletons, and other creatures – take a backseat to conventional Hollywood storytelling tropes and bizarre romantic subplots. Critics have largely panned the film with ratings around 4.8/10, while audiences (particularly young fans) have embraced it with scores of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. This disparity reveals the film's identity crisis – trying to please everyone while fully satisfying no one. Whether you're a Minecraft enthusiast or simply curious about video game adaptations, we'd love to hear your thoughts! What video game movies do you think succeeded where this one failed? It is our 150th episode! What better way to celebrate such a milestone than by talking about one of television's most cherished and beloved programs....nah just kidding, we're doing The Super Mario Super Show. A bizarre yet charming little show frequently referenced by our hosts, this children's program tried to do a lot...and may have bit off more than it could chew...oh yeah, and they also had the Legend of Zelda on Fridays. It's a full-on pop culture party this week as Kyle McMahon talks the best and worst video game adaptiations with Benny Panella, Dave Franco & Alison Brie discuss their horror film Together and Anthony Mackie and the cast of Twisted Metal Season 2 takeover the show.Kyle is joined once again by the amazing Benny Panella to deep-dive, nitpick and laugh their way through the wild, pixelated world of video game adaptations. From Super Mario Bros. (1993, aka the one of the weirdest movies ever made) to The Last of Us and Sonic the Hedgehog dominating modern screens, they unpack what works, what flops, and why Hollywood keeps trying to make “Doom” happen (it's not going to happen). Then buckle up, because I'm bringing you inside the mayhem of Twisted Metal Season 2 with exclusive interviews from the cast and creatives - including the always epic Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz, showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, Samoa Joe, Mike Mitchell, Tiana Okoye, Patti Guggenheim, Sailor Bell Curda, Lisa Gilroy, and Richard De Klerk. It's like Mad Max chugged five Monster Energy drinks and landed on Peacock. And to close things out? A real-life couple making fake-life horror magic - Dave Franco and Alison Brie join to talk about their twisted new film Together. They talk codependency, prosthetics, toilet logistics, and cuddling red flags. It's a lot. In the best way.

JURASSIC WORLD GOES FULL MONSTER MOVIE!! Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Start your online business with a $1 per-month trial when you visit https://www.shopify.com/rejects! Jurassic World embraces full-on Monster Movie Camp!! Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Greg Alba & Tara Erickson return to Isla Nublar (and beyond!) in their latest Reaction & Review of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 action-packed sequel directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, A Monster Calls) and written by Colin Trevorrow & Derek Connolly. This fifth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise blends sci-fi spectacle with horror-thriller tension as dinosaurs once again roam where they shouldn't—and humanity pays the price. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Super Mario Bros. Movie) reprises his role as raptor trainer Owen Grady, teaming up with Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Rocketman) as Claire Dearing, now an activist fighting to rescue the dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption. They're joined by new allies including Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) as IT whiz Franklin Webb and Daniella Pineda (The Vampire Diaries, Cowboy Bebop) as paleo-veterinarian Zia Rodriguez. The mission takes a dark turn when they uncover a nefarious plot led by Eli Mills (Rafe Spall – Life of Pi, The Big Short), who plans to auction off the surviving dinosaurs for profit—including the terrifying new hybrid, the Indoraptor. Other cast members include James Cromwell (Babe, L.A. Confidential) as Benjamin Lockwood, B.D. Wong (Mr. Robot, Jurassic Park) returning as Dr. Henry Wu, and Isabella Sermon as Maisie Lockwood, whose shocking origins play a major role in the film's future implications. Iconic moments include the tragic brachiosaurus scene as Isla Nublar erupts, the suspenseful Indoraptor hallway sequence, and the film's climactic release of dinosaurs into the wild—setting the stage for a new world order. With its gothic mansion horror vibes, emotional beats, and dinosaur mayhem, Fallen Kingdom delivers a darker, more morally complex chapter in the saga. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's June, so that means it's time for our “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest K-Tron discuss the wildly chaotic and divisive 1993 video game adaptation, Super Mario Bros.!The first real video game movie! No Chris Pratt! Cute little bombs! Conspiracy-theorist Luigi! Brotherly love! Plentiful use of pyramid spikes! Full-sized bumper cars! Suspenseful ordering of the Koopa pizza special! Romantic WrestleMania plans! Nintendo and cigarette product placement! Questionable dinosaur-birthing methods! Scantily clad dancers in a kid's movie! Enough fungus to put The Last Of Us to shame! Incredibly dangerous city streets! Police issued flamethrowers! A fascinating soundtrack! A lovable cast that includes Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis, Mojo Nixon, and Dennis Hopper doing T-Rex arms! A sequel tease and post-credits scene years before Marvel made them common! A visually insane movie with impressive sets and costume designs, an Oscar-winning cinematographer, and great dinosaur/creature FX that slightly predate Jurassic Park! All that and more in this endearingly uneven, cyberpunk-influenced adaptation that would have an even bigger cult following if it weren't for the shame of the creatives involved! In addition, K-Tron shares her spoiler-free thoughts on the horror comedy Slotherhouse, while Alex does the same for Bring Her Back, the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, the Shark serial killer thriller Dangerous Animals, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (with some additional thoughts from Tim)! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. [School of Movies 2025] Two of the most successful films of the 20s, both of them built on the winning formula of bewildered people from the real world being plunged into an alternate dimension which allows them to encounter pleasingly recognisable elements from the video games that general audiences like, on their way towards assisting with deposing a tyrannical warmonger. The problem for us is that Super Mario Bros. is a long-running and beloved series of platformers, kart racers and RPGs, whereas Minecraft is a creative building block survival indie hit gone corporate phenomenon, that wound up dominating the 2010s to the point of being used as a teaching aid in schools. These are VERY different kinds of games... so why are their movies the same? This show combines my 2023 first impressions After School Club on the Mario movie, and new recordings where Sharon and especially Willow (the catchment audience) talk about both of them.
