The summer blockbuster season is in full swing, and we're diving into everything from Superman's ongoing cultural impact to the controversial use of AI in filmmaking. The Man of Steel continues to dominate conversations weeks after release, with fans still discovering Easter eggs and collecting merchandise that's flying off shelves faster than a speeding bullet. We explore the shifting landscape of animation as Spider-Verse gets pushed to 2027, raising questions about how long anticipation can realistically build before audiences move on. Meanwhile, television excellence gets its due with Emmy nominations showcasing standout performances on shows like The Bear, where Ayo Edebiri makes history with her third consecutive nomination.Perhaps most provocatively, we tackle Netflix's admission of using AI for an entire scene in a recent film – cutting production time by 90%. Where's the line between technological advancement and creative compromise? Is this the CGI revolution all over again, or something more concerning for the industry's future? Our deep dive into Amazon Prime's "Heads of State" examines how streaming platforms have created a new middle ground for action comedies that wouldn't necessarily thrive in theaters. John Cena and Idris Elba's chemistry carries this turn-your-brain-off adventure that perfectly embodies the streaming formula. We contrast this with "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a nostalgia play that struggles to justify its existence beyond name recognition.Looking ahead to Fantastic Four's imminent release, we can't help but get excited about the collectible popcorn buckets (particularly the impressive $80 light-up Galactus) while contemplating what Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards might mean for his already meteoric career trajectory. Whether you're a casual moviegoer or dedicated film buff, our conversation captures the pulse of this extraordinary moment in entertainment.
This week on The Geekz, we dive into the unexpected nostalgia trip that is Head of State on Amazon Prime—an explosive throwback to '90s-style action that we absolutely loved! We also break down the latest buzz from the geek universe, including casting and plot updates for Fantastic Four, new developments in the Spider-Verse, and the surprising return of Captain Planet. Plus, we react to the jaw-dropping Tron: Ares trailer, tease what's ahead in Stranger Things Season 5, and gear up for more brutal battles in Mortal Kombat Part 2. It's a packed episode full of retro vibes, news, and collectibles talk! #GeekzPodcast #HeadOfState #90sActionMovies #AmazonPrimeVideo #FantasticFour #SpiderVerse #CaptainPlanet #TronAres #StrangerThings5 #MortalKombat2 #MovieNews #TVTalk #GamingNews #ToyCollector #CollectorsCommunity #GeekCulture #NostalgiaTrip #PopCultureFans #ComicBookMovies #RetroGaming #MovieLovers #TVFans #VideoGameNerds #ToyPhotography

We have a big two crossover coming your way today, no, not the Deadpool and Batman one, comics writer Mat Groom (Radiant Black, Inferno Girl Red) returns to the show all the way from Australia to talk about his Tokusatsu inspired DC Comics project Immortal Legend Batman and his Marvel Comics project Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse. I did my best to not dig too deeply into Immortal Legend Batman , one of the most anticipated events of the year for toku fans everywhere, so we don't give away any spoilers so we jump into what, for me, is one of the surprise Marvel books of 2025 in Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse with what I found to be a thoughtful approach to the relationships between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock wrapped in a slobberknocker of a throwdown between the multiverse representatives of the Web Heart and the Hive Mind. We also compare notes on the misconceptions about dangerous animals on our respective continents. It's alway a pleasure having Mat on the show. Marvel gaat verder met Spider-Man '94Spider-Man: The Animated Series krijgt eindelijk een vervolg!
This week on the Couch, the gang enshrines some well-received fan mail from the mythical Josh, who provided us with our topic for this discussion this episode, The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Released during the COVID-19 pandemic from a number of the same people who brought us Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this film definitely feels like it was created in (and marketed around) the cultural sphere of the late 20teens/early 2020's, which is especially evident in the humor and the breakneck pace. And in the same way that Spider-Verse felt like a love letter/complete visual re-imagining of comic book media on the silver screen, Mitchells feels like it tries to do the same with amateurish home videos—but does it succeed? Tune into our discussion on the film's emotional strengths, narrative weaknesses, and impressive animation. Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we recap our attendance at the Adelaide Mega Toy Fair event. This annual event promotes itself for its long running campaign; but with new organisers this year, how did it actually go? We chat towards what we spotted, what we think needs to be improved & what we scored!! Spoiler alert: Pub Lunch & making a day of it with great friends, is always the overall highlight!! Then Trent does an awesome Toyline Retrospective on the early 80's franchise that was: Blackstar! With a Filmation Cartoon airing first in 1981; then a corresponding Toyline from Galoob in 1983! Featuring the fight between our Hero: John Blackstar against the Evil Ruler: Overlord on the Planet Sagar. This Toyline & franchise actually has more ties to Masters Of The Universe than one may think.... There are some EPIC Beasts, questionable modes of transport & the incredibly sort after Ice Castle Playset - this Franchise really tried hard & its interesting to think in a sliding doors parallel reality - could this have been a more popular franchise than Masters Of The Universe?! Then rounding out the episode, we squeeze a quick round table, around some of our Latest Scores! It's unofficially Summertime, in America. The perfect time to go inside, crank up the AC sit on your ass, and play video games all night long. Keep it to the night though because these long hot days are going to be wasted working and fighting fascism. All independent podcasts must take a stand. As the sources to real news are being cut off, we will have to speak louder. The RPGrinders have never been ones to shy away from politics but we do need to make the time to talk gaming. It's important to everyone's mental health to have some form of release and have friends to communicate. As scary as things are we all need a mental distraction now and then. Let us Grinders ease your minds for just a short time. In years past, this is the time of year we would be celebrating E3 and tons of gaming announcements. Although E3 may be as dead as democracy, here in the US, the game companies still use this time of the year to make some of their biggest announcements. Just to name a few: Final Fantasy Tactics returns again, a new Blood Stained has been announced for 2026, and the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 remake is now coming to the Switch 2. If a long day of fighting against tyranny gets too exhausting to even feel like gaming, let the Grinders pick which movie to veg. The newest instalment of the Final Destination series has been getting a lot of hype, but only Frank can tell you if it's truly worth the money. The biggest movie in the world, for about a week, was Jack Black starring Minecraft movie, but only Eric knows if it deserved to be #1. For the streaming crowd, the Miles Morales focused Across the Spiderverse is the middle part of a trilogy, but only BM knows if they should have stopped after the first movie. As the usual, the Grinders have a ton of Stinkos but they do seem to be getting worse as this administration gains power and ignored our laws. Entire families are being disappeared into the night under the FALSE claims of gang activity. Rubber bullets are being shot at the media and PEACEFUL protestors. Women in anti-abortion states are now at an even greater risk of losing their lives as they are now without Federal protection. Cis gender women are being increasingly targeted for harassment and violence by not looking feminine enough to the eyes of the bigots. Trans men are being forced to use women's restrooms and are being subjected to violence and humiliation. This is NOT the kind of country in which I want to live! Breath in. Breath out. Deep breaths. No more talk about the fall of freedom in America. We just wish everyone be safe! Now let's end this on a positive note. It's not all bad news for the Grinders as we all have new toys to enjoy. Frank and Eric were each able to get the Switch 2 on launch. We hope that everyone else who wanted a Switch 2 was able to get one. While a lot of gamers are enjoying a brand-new system, only Break is enjoying his brand-old new video game systems. Spent the last 20 minutes of the show asking for PS4 purchasing advice. Zero recommendations purchased. Fail.

Also, he talks up some favorite podcasts and stretches the boundaries of the Daredevil Cinematic Universe to the breaking point as an excuse to rewatch Into the SpiderVerse.

In this Unitarian Universalist Pride Sunday sermon, Rev. T. J. Fitzgerald weaves together the story of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, queer theology, and the lived realities of LGBTQ+ people. From Miles Morales' transformation into Spider-Man to the words of Audre Lorde and James Baldwin, Rev. Fitzgerald explores how heroism, guilt, and survival are central to both superhero stories and queer existence. Drawing parallels between the multiverse of Spider-People and the diverse beauty of queer identity, this message boldly proclaims: queer love is powerful, sacred, and it wins.
