More on the topic of sending an agent to do a sin - in this case, specifically, murder. With parallels to King David, in his efforts to hide his affair with Batsheva. Also, can a shaliach (agent) be a witness? Some key disputes flesh out the concerns.
Erik Childress flies solo on this one detailing his full experience at this year's event. He shares his thoughts on over 25 films ranging from new titles from Richard Linklater, Alexander Payne and Kitty Green to even actors getting behind the camera including Anna Kendrick, Michael Keaton and Patricia Arquette. There are films with songs, stories with cops, drug dealers, hit men and serial killers plus two of the year's very best films about teachers. Tales of everything from WWII to Spring Break, apocalyptic combat to Chicago's Cabrini Green. Not every film is a dream though one certainly has a fun time with them not to mention the emphasis on women's stories and trying to find peace in a world of bad men and at least one they call their father. Good stuff, great stuff and some really bad stuff in another festival season. 0:00 - Intro 1:10 – Flipside 5:27 - We Grown Now 8:46 - Flora and Son 14:30 - The Teachers' Lounge 18:01 – Getting To Toronto and The First Screening 20:15 - Gonzo Girl 22:39 - Working Class Goes To Hell 25:04 – Dicks: The Musical 28:23 - How To Have Sex 31:24 - Reptile 35:00 - Backspot 37:55 - Woman of the Hour 42:03 - Finestkind 44:23 - Boy Kills World 50:52 - Dream Scenario 57:59 - The Holdovers 1:04:27 - Lee 1:07:53 - The Zone of Interest 1:09:16 - The End We Start From 1:12:46 - Knox Goes Away 1:16:10 - Hell of a Summer 1:18:12 - The Movie Teller 1:20:31 - The Royal Hotel 1:27:25 - Hitman 1:32:11 - His Three Daughters 1:36:47 - Pain Hustlers 1:40:34 - Last Summer 1:43:10 - Outro

On episode 201 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson and AwardsWatch contributors Dan Bayer and Kevin L. Lee to give their reactions to the films they saw at the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. A couple of weeks back, Ryan and Erik gave their reactions to the Telluride Film Festival, one of the first film festivals to start of the fall festival season. After they left the mountains of Colorado, they got their passports ready and headed north to Canada for the annual Toronto International Film Festival. Known for having big Oscar contenders premiere and star-studded red carpets, because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, TIFF was not as glamorous as years past. But with close to 300 movies from around the world screening across a week and a half, there was still plenty of good films that the gang saw that they were able to share their opinions on. Before getting into the films, Ryan, Erik, Dan, and Kevin talk about their TIFF experience in terms of what it is like to attend the festival, the ticketing system, and how the screenings work for press and general audiences going to the festival. Then they went on to discuss the three films that won the TIFF People's Choice Awards: American Fiction, The Holdovers, and The Boy and the Heron. After giving their thoughts on TIFF winners, they went on to gives thoughts on tons of films that included Next Goal Wins, Monster, Dumb Money, Sing Sing, Rustin, His Three Daughters, Woman of the Hour, Dream Scenario, Evil Does Not Exist, Hitman, Origin, Wicked Little Letters, and more. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h38m. We will be back next week to talk about our Top 5 Directorial Debuts, in honor of the stellar year of debuts that have come out in 2023. Till then, let's get into it. Welcome back to another flavourful episode of Bad Dads Film Review! Pull up a chair, fellow Dad cinephiles, as we pour over the dynamic world of servers and explore action-packed precincts, all the while indulging in some animated nostalgia.Top 5: Waiters/Waitresses in Film & TV: Serving isn't just a job, it's an art form. We start off by paying homage to the most iconic waiters and waitresses to grace our screens. From the sassy Diane Chambers of "Cheers" to the endearingly clumsy Amelia Bedelia, we'll rank, debate, and toast to the ones who've added the perfect touch of spice to their roles. We might also toss in a few memorable, albeit cringe-worthy, serving faux pas that had us rolling with laughter or hiding behind our popcorn.Movie of the Week: Copshop: Directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo, "Copshop" is a gripping dive into the world of crime and betrayal, with a precinct holding cell as its battleground. We'll unravel the film's intense action sequences, its intriguing character dynamics, and whether it passes the Dad test of providing a perfect blend of thrills, plot depth, and popcorn-munching moments.Kids TV - Mr Bean: The Animated Series: Ah, Mr. Bean. Few characters have the universal, timeless appeal of this bumbling Brit. As we delve into the animated adventures of Rowan Atkinson's iconic character, we'll discuss how Mr. Bean continues to captivate new generations without uttering a single word. We Dads will reminisce about our favourite Bean moments and chat about the life lessons – intended or otherwise – our kids might glean from his antics. So whether you're in for the cinematic service, crime capers, or cartoon chuckles, we've got your table set. Bon appétit! We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. Until next time, we remain... Bad Dads

Better late than never! Back in Episode 29, Allison and her fellow cinephile Josh Bermont discussed director Martin McDonagh's amazing debut crime film, IN BRUGES, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Now you can listen to the rest of that discussion, as they dig into the latest film by this legendary trio, THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, which came out in 2022. Unlike In Bruges, which is a contemporary story about two assassins holed up in a very storybook medieval town, Banshees takes place in 1923 on a remote island off the coast of Ireland, and involves an odd feud between two old friends. Yet somehow, the two make perfect bookends on a thematic level. And similarly, be sure to check out the In Bruges discussion if you haven't already!IMDB on The Banshees of Inisherinhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt11813216/Episode 29: In Brugeshttps://dingdongdarknesstime.buzzsprout.com/1871782/12731855-25-ding-dong-movie-time-apocalypse-now-and-the-hearts-of-darknessThe Press Play and Scream Podcasthttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/press-play-and-scream/id1589942694 Join the Ding Dong Darkness Time Patreon!https://www.patreon.com/DingDongDarknessTimeShow Credits:Graphics -- Nathaniel Dickson: http://ndickson.comMusic -- Spencer Morelock, Ken DicksonDing Dong Darkness Time Media:Twitter: @dddarknesstimeInstagram: dddarknesstimeGmail: dddarknesstime@gmail.com

In Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol,” Scrooge's nephew says of his uncle, “His wealth is of no use to him. He don't do any good with it. He don't make himself comfortable with it.” Those of us who aren't staggeringly wealthy might have happy daydreams about how much fun we'd have if we won the lottery, but a lot of the people who devote their lives to making as much cash as possible seem incapable of finding any joy in their success. For them, it's not about taking care of their loved ones, pursuing their dreams, having the time to travel or learn new passions. It's just about…making—more—money. It's the journey AND the destination. And that kind of greed? It can rot you from the inside out, and destroy everything good in your life. On the morning of June 4th, 2010, seven year old Kyron Horman was brought to his elementary school by his stepmother so that he could show her his science fair project. Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon was having a science fair that day, and although the school would normally open at 8:35 AM, that morning the doors were unlocked at 8AM, to give the students a chance to tour the fair with their families. At around 8:45 AM, Kyron's stepmother Terri Moulton Horman took a photograph of Kyron standing in front of his project, a detailed diorama of the red-eyed tree frog. He beamed proudly at the camera through his wire rimmed glasses, and then, according to Terri, she walked him to his classroom and watched him enter. But when attendance was taken that day, Kyron Horman was not present, and he would never be seen again. His mother Desiree Young would later say quote, “it's like a portal opened up in the school and Kyron just vanished into it” end quote. The search for Kyron has been the largest criminal investigation in Portland history, but to this day there has been no sign of what happened to him, where he went, or who he was with. Five years after police rule Lara Prychodko's death as a tragic accident, her father is still pushing for answers. Prychodko died after falling 27-stories down a trash chute. Nicholas Prychodko claims in a lawsuit that his son-in-law carefully planned, and used a hit-man to facilitate her death. The couple were in the middle of an acrimonious divorce at the time. The chief medical examiner concluded that Prychodko died from multiple blunt force injuries and was extremely intoxicated. Prychodko's father doesn't believe that explanation. He says a hit-man hired by her husband was waiting for her on the 27th floor. She was strangled and the body disposed of down the building's trash chute. No criminal charges have ever been filed against husband David Schlachet. Prychodko's father is suing for wrongful death.
