In the early hours of March 3, 1993, someone snuck into the Maryland home of Millie Horn, where she lived with her disabled eight-year-old son, Trevor, and his nurse, Janice Saunders. After shooting both women in the head multiple times, the intruder smothered Trevor Horn to death, then quietly left the house. Hours later, the bodies of all three were discovered by Millie's sister, who stepped by to check on them.Almost immediately, suspicion fell on Millie Horn's ex-husband, Lawrence, who lived thousands of miles away in California, but with whom she'd spoken just hours before the murders occurred. In time, investigators were able to establish a financial motive, linking Lawrence Horn to the murders, yet they were unable to place Horn in Maryland when the murders occurred. Ultimately, Lawrence Horn would be tried and convicted for all three murders, but by that time, he wasn't sole perpetrator of the crime. And when prosecutors were finally able to pin down the men responsible for the deaths, it turned out the killers received guidance from a very surprising source.Recommendations:Phantasma By Kaylie SmithHappy Place By Emily HenryReferencesAssociated Press. 1993. The owners of the horse show, Valitar, are a wealthy, conventionally attractive couple called the Remley's. Mark Remley is a little bit older. Perhaps nerdy, but the type of guy to get into peak shape later in life. Tatyana Remley is his wife with bottle blonde hair and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model body. She's also the main star of the Valitar horse show. The Remley's invested over $20 million dollars into the show, just to lose every single penny of it after multiple scandals back to back. Allegedly, horses were abandoned with nothing to eat and massive creative differences led to performers quitting. Former staff members would come out to allege that Tatyana Remley doesn't even know how to ride a horse that well… Later, the couple is featured on TV as a well known swinger's couple, a pillar in the local sex-swinging community. That's just a side quest though; the most scandalous thing that happened at Valitar was the decapitated horse head on the Remley's marital bed. Thankfully, it's not an actual butchered horse head. It's just a hunk from one of their very expensive statues in their $5.5 million dollar home near San Diego, California. And it's clearly not been placed there as a mistake. This is a targeted threat. And by the end of the investigation, one of the Remleys, the founders of the failed multi-million dollar Valitar horse show, will be dead. On March 3, 1993, three people were brutally murdered in Silverspring, Maryland: single mother Millie Horn, her young son Trevor, and his nurse, Janice Saunders. There were no fingerprints. The killings were targeted and quick. The killer seemed to know what they were doing - almost like they had read a book about it. Well, it turns out, they had. Ten years earlier, Paladin Press published a book called 'Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors'. It detailed how to kill and get away with murder. Despite attempts to have the book taken off shelves, many argued that the first amendment to the U.S.constitution meant it had a right to exist. This week on Crime Story, Jasmyn Morris joins us to talk about the podcast Hit Man. She explains how a book became evidence for murder, the fight to take it off the shelves and the mysterious author behind the murderous manual. You can find Hit Man here.

At the age of 30, Jules O'Loughlin ASC ACS walked away from a successful career as a futures trader and made the decision to pursue cinematography full-time. After enrolling at AFTRS, he shot his first feature Kokoda, a film that helped launch his career in the Australian film industry. That decision set Jules on a path from local features to major international productions, leading to credits including Ms Marvel, The Old Man, See, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Angel Has Fallen, Black Sails and most recently Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Season 2. Jules reflects on changing industries later in life, committing fully when the stakes are high, and why focus and timing often matter more than age. He also discusses the realities of film school, building long-term creative relationships, and how early opportunities can quietly shape an entire career. The conversation dives deeper into craft, with Jules unpacking his visual approach on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He breaks down complex sequences involving horses, chariots and large-scale action, as well as shooting on water and boats, drawing on experience from Black Sails. Jules discusses how these scenes are planned and executed safely, how practical filmmaking is balanced with visual effects, and how lens choice, camera movement and motivated lighting are used to keep fantasy grounded and story-driven.

Caomh McGillion briefly stops by to help Cam sum up Bruce Willis' 30 VOD & Limited Release Movies prior to his retirement. Which initial ones were rather reasonable B-movies/unofficial DIE HARD sequels? Which ones easily rivaled the most infamous Steven Seagal/Mel Gibson/John Travolta/Sylvester Stallone/Eric Roberts/Mickey Rourke movies of late? How did the producer of NARC/LONE SURVIVOR/THE IRISHMAN orchestrate such a ponzi scheme with these bottom-of-the-barrel Action flicks? Were any of the other ensemble comedies & mystery flicks surprisingly well-done despite only having Bruce in a brief part? All that and a proper farewell to one of cinema's once popular stars! When it comes to the evolving gaming market, there's a lot for Sony to keep an eye on in the years and decades to come. To keep PlayStation the vibrant brand it is today, the company needs to spread the field, and two newly-announced projects -- an all-new co-op multiplayer game from the director of Left 4 Dead and a mobile port of mega-popular baseball franchise MLB: The Show -- fit the bill nicely. It's true that Sony has had more than its fair share of false starts (and even outright failures) in both the mobile and games-as-a-service space. Yet, there's gold in them there hills. Lots of it. Can Sony finally slay some off-platform and off-genre demons and reap some rewards? We discuss. Plus: Nixxes helps reduce Helldivers 2's PC file size by an astounding 85%, Bungie has apparently solved its dispute with the artist it purportedly stole Marathon-related art from, Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games finds itself in self-inflicted financial duress, Amazon has already renewed the God of War TV show for a second season, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Has leaking culture gone too far? Will Micron's exit from the consumer RAM business affect console manufacturing? How can people find likeminded gaming friends online? Can we please do away with adult gift-giving once and for all? Despite any gripes with Xbox this year, there's no denying that 2026 presents a fun challenge for them. Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Halo, and Gears Of War E-Day are all slated to drop next year. However, a new wrinkle has been introduced in the ambitious RPG, Clockwork Revolution, which hails from inXile Entertainment. After a seven minute trailer from this summer's showcase, we felt this thing had to be ready to go soon. Sadly, the RPG titan tempered our expectations when the trailer ended with the familiar statement from its initial reveal: "Coming in due time." Well, if a LinkedIn profile is to be believed, Clockwork Revolution may join the fray of a busy year for the "biggest publisher in gaming." Naturally, we hone in on GTA 6 which creates a splash radius so large that every publisher will be avoiding them for the fall. How Xbox navigates this will be interesting as we have yet to consider overdue titles like State Of Decay 3 and third party deals. Buckle up, friends! It's going to be a wild ride. The instructions were very clear: Walk over to the hit car. Open the front passenger door and get in. Do not look around. Keep your head facing forward. Act normal. Angie Solomon does just that, slides in and stares at the dashboard. “Have you done this before?” A male voice answers from the backseat behind her to let her know that she's asking one too many questions. Angie nervously laughs then continues. Angie tells the hitman in the backseat of the car about her youngest child. A daughter named Gracie, whom Angie claims, was abused by her ex-husband and Gracie's father Aaron. Angie continues. She tells the hitman about Aaron's schedule, his address, how his gate has a hole in the back that the hitman can get through. The hitman finally speaks, “You understand that I'm not going to see you again. You understand that right? He'll be dead and disappear…” But the morning after Angie plotted to kill her ex-husband, Aaron would not be dead. And the two them, Mr. Backseat man and Angie, they would see each other again… In a courtroom full of people while the recording of Angie in the hit car plays in open court. Mr. Backseat Man is an undercover FBI agent. By 2025 Angie will be arrested for murder for hire. Aaron will be accused of trafficking his daughter Gracie in a high powered ring of mega church pastors and the governor of Tennessee. And Grant, the first born son will be dead. This is the case of the Solomons where it's clear that at least one of them is lying. We just don't know who. Full show notes at RottenMangoPodcast.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
