Guys, did you know I wrote a book? I did and it’s called The World Needs Your Hustle! When dreams seem out of reach, goals appear insurmountable, and you have so much on your plate that you don’t know where to start, it’s time to stop. Reassess. And get motivated. I believe my book will restore your belief that your goals and dreams are worth the pursuit. I want you to be reminded why you must start… and why you must keep going. It’s not just about you - it’s also for the countless others who will be inspired by your life to make the most of theirs. This week on the podcast I’m giving you a free preview of the book! You can listen to the opening pages for free and see what you think! I hope it will be just what you need to get started, to keep going despite the obstacles, or to continue believing in this crazy dream in your life! Check out the episode today! For many of us, family is a strong bond and within that circle, the sibling bond shares a special closeness because you've seen each other at your best, your worst, and everything in between - from hair like the Exorcist, to red sweat pants from Walmart, or 90s fashion choices to name a few! For me and my two sisters, Christy and Cara, the sibling bond is something unique and unbreakable. In this week's episode, we are giving you a look into our childhood (playing Wilderness Family or almost becoming the next big Christian rock band), our strengths and flaws (which one is the peacemaker of the group and which one isn't afraid to speak the truth), and also sharing how the hardest of circumstances have only made us stronger! (From finding out your brother is gay to sitting with your sister during rounds of chemo, or helping your other sister manage life with epilepsy). You'll quickly learn how we use humor to deal with everything - even at the most inappropriate of times. You will see how much we love each other and where our strength and joy comes from as siblings. Fun fact: Count how many times Chick-Fil-A is mentioned throughout the episode! I'm also turning the reigns over as host to my amazing friend Jeff Carl who not only is a natural at the role, but is also able to keep up with three humans that love to talk a lot! Our hope is that you will see how no matter the circumstances, you can still find joy, laughter and amazing strength when there are people who have your back no matter what!
There are a few things happening in the world that we need to discuss. The Apple Event and their latest creations, what favorite show is coming to an end, why we really need to play the Powerball this weekend, and more! I also went and saw the movie, Us, and it is one of the best scary movies I have seen in a while. Finally, I want to share a bit of encouragement with you when it comes to giving yourself permission to put yourself first. It's something many of us struggle to do, but I will tell you why it's so important and how a simple change in perspective can help us live out our best lives and impact others in a deeper way! Be sure to subscribe to the show and leave a review on iTunes. Let's also make sure we are friends on Instagram and Twitter @kevinbuchanan_ so you can help with upcoming episodes and stay in the know!
This week’s episode takes a very candid look at the topic of faith and being gay. Jeff Carl and I share very similar backgrounds growing up in the church, being taught that homosexuality was wrong, yet trying to discover our own identities as gay men and reconcile that with our faith. Through our honest and unfiltered conversation (oh we went there, people) - we discuss our own upbringings, the struggle of keeping a secret, our coming-out stories, and the role faith plays in each of our lives today. Some of you have never heard this part of our story. We each reopened some feelings and emotions we had packed away. But you’ll see how we have learned so much through the process and have come out on the other side much stronger and more confident in who we are as human beings. I believe it’s an important conversation for gay people, their family and friends, for the church, and for anyone who wants to know what it’s like going through the process. By the end of the episode, I hope you’ll find the same encouragement and valuable lessons that we did.
Have you ever been in a funk? You know that feeling when you're overwhelmed, frustrated, and just tired! It happens to all of us and I have felt that way most of the week. It's no fun so I want to share with you the steps I took to get out of it! I hope you'll find some practical suggestions to use the next time you feel yourself slipping into the funk and are ready to get back on track. Also, I am celebrating episode ten by telling you about KINDNESS DAY which is Saturday, April 27th and you do not want to miss out! I'll explain how it originated, kindness stories from last year, and how to sign up for one of my favorite days of the year! Be sure to subscribe to the podcast and leave a review on iTunes. Thanks guys!
At age forty-three, I have learned a few things about life. I still have a lot to learn but this week I wanted to share a few of those lessons with you. Let's talk about my favorite Maya Angelou quote, how getting what you want out of life takes a lot of work, the power of gratitude, and three little words that make all the difference. Let's also talk Oprah, Target, and Chick Fil A because they are my greatest loves and fit into any episode. I'm also going to share a mantra that has gotten me through many hard times and I truly believe will help you, too! It's life lessons this week and I can't wait to hear some of yours!
Greg and Jason are making big impacts in the world of Kindergarten teachers! Greg Warren is a teacher and he and his husband Jason created The Kindergarten Smorgasboard - where mustaches, glitter, and great teachers collide! Their successful business and wildly popular social media following have helped them become the go-to guys for all things Kindergarten. You will love learning about their life as husbands, how they are soon-to-be dads, and you'll quickly learn why their relationship works so well. You will be inspired at how Greg's love and passion for teaching turned into a full-blown business and how Jason quit his job to help take The Kindergarten Smorgasboard to new levels! Their story is encouraging, motivating, and they were so much fun to talk with! Also in this episode I am talking about The Oscars - what I loved, the one disappointing win of the night, and the very awkward moments that people are still talking about!
Bethany Jett is an entrepreneur at heart. She co-owns Serious Writer, Inc., and is the Vice President of Platinum Literary Services where she specializes in marketing, nonfiction proposal creation, ghostwriting, and developmental editing. She is also an Assistant Acquisitions Editor for Little Lamb Books, LLC, a faith-based children’s publishing house. Bethany’s motto is “Learn everything you can; teach as you go.” She is a multiple award-winning author and ghostwriter and finds joy speaking across the country at conferences, retreats, and camps for writers, women, college students, and teens. Bethany married her college sweetheart, Justin, and after a decade in youth ministry, they rejoined the military world. She is a homeschooling momma-of-boys, suspense-novel junkie who describes herself as “mid-maintenance” and loves cute shoes and all things girly. I spoke with Bethany about a time she and her husband were hurt by the church. So many of us can relate to similar experiences either within the church or outside the church and I wanted to see how Bethany found healing and ended up discovering a new path in life for her and Justin! You will be so encouraged by what she has to say!
This week I am discussing the Grammys - what I loved about the show and the one thing I really hated. I'm also going to tell you how I might get to be a contestant on one of my favorite game shows! I will end the episode by sharing my morning routine with you with the hope that it sparks ideas on how you can start your day off right!
Charity Baroni was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She started traveling at an early age with her musical missionary family. She danced her whole life for fun, started fully training in dance at a studio when she was 17 and the start to her professional dance journey in Los Angeles began when she was 20 in 2007. Through hard work and building relationships, she thrived in the entertainment industry and performed and toured with artists such as Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, and also performed with artists such as Beyoncé, Flo Rida, Katy Perry and more. She learned and experienced a lot of greatness and also reality during her adventure surrounded by fame and fortune. Through that adventure she came to know what she feels life is actually about. You will love this conversation with Charity as she gives a behind-the-scenes look at fame, shares some crazy stories of life on the road, and what it's like to be besties with a celebrity! She will also share why she eventually let go of the "glitz and glam" and journeyed back to Nashville to pursue a new dream. In this episode, I will also talk about Oscar nominations, two Netflix shows you need to watch - "You" and "Fyre", and I'm calling out those of you I have now labeled as internet tab hoarders. Enjoy the episode!
This week I am sitting down with indie alt-pop artist and songwriter, Jeff Carl, to talk all things life and music. You will learn about his beginnings - including a hilarious yet scarring childhood memory, how music became a passion for him, and you'll get thrown into a fierce debate about whether or not Chick-Fil-A is fast food. Btw, it's not. We discuss how a DUI sparked a change for him and caused him to ask the question - is there a better story that can be told with my life? You will love his honesty and vulnerability as he shares what his life was like then and how it has evolved now. I was fascinated by the progression of his own reflection about life and I promise you will discover so many takeaways that will have you pondering whether or not you are living your best story!
In this week's episode, I sit down with Stephanie Jones, author of The Giving Challenge: 40 Days to a More Generous Life! You'll learn not only about the book and how it can change your life, but you'll hear about Stephanie's life and upbringing and how that played a role in her love for kindness through giving today! I'll also discuss a few things going on in the world today, tell you why you need to binge Homecoming on Amazon Prime, and end with a small dose of encouragement to help you through the week!
In this premier episode, I will share a little too much about myself, why I've always dreamed of having my own show, and what you can expect in future episodes. I will also tell you why your New Year's Resolutions aren't working and give you four steps to setting and achieving your goals this year! I've also been watching a few movies recently and I will let you know if you should check them out or not!
