As an author, avid reader, and fan of paper planners, I was excited to interview fellow author, avid reader, and fan of paper planners, Bethany Jett, who has an allergy to paper. Oh, the irony! Bethany Jett is an author, marketer, ghost writer, and co-owns Platinum Literary Services and Serious Writer, Inc. Learn more about Bethany at bethanyjett.com. While writing her book, Platinum Faith, with co-author, Michelle Medlock Adams, Bethany suffered with extreme dryness in her hands. Unbeknownst to her, her affinity for paper, reading books, paper planners, and stickers for her planner were causing her skin to break out. Finally, a doctor diagnosed her with colonophy, an allergy to rosin, which is found in paper products and most plastic products. Before and after her diagnosis, her social media posts were hilarious as she took a light-hearted, humorous approach to the zigzags (struggles) she faced. Bethany discussed her book, Platinum Faith, on this episode. In the book, she and co-author, Michelle Medlock Adams, describe twelve properties of platinum, show how those properties are also characteristics of a strong faith, and point out Biblical characters who demonstrate those properties. The twelve properties of Platinum that describe a strong faith: 1. All-In 2. Useful 3. Can Withstand the Heat 4. Precious 5. Rare 6. Shines Brightly 7. Created to Bond 8. Malleable 9. Resists Corrosion 10. Its Presence Is Weighty 11. Has Worth 12. Responds Instead of Reacts Platinum Faith is available at all retail and online book sellers. Order your copy today!
What is faith? The more I lean back and think about it I can come up with so many different definitions of what it is and what it means to me personally. In today’s episode, we’re really diving into what is authentic faith and how does it present itself? We answer these questions by comparing it to a metal called “platinum.” Today’s gas or two besties, Michelle and Bethany. They have so much enthusiasm for helping women including other writers and encouraging everyone that they encounter (especially you as a listener today). They join forces and wrote a book together called Platinum Faith.” They joined forces and wrote a book together called “Platinum Faith.” Each chapter outlines a platinum property, a promise, and a prayer for readers. The authors include relatable stories, biblical perspectives, and personal applications to help readers define and pursue a platinum faith. This parallel will blow your mind! If you’re in a season of struggle, trying to identify the real from the counterfeit, and could use a virtual hug from these amazing women, this episode is for you. (00:00-09:56): Still in the wake of Kobe Bryant’s death, Shaquille O’Neal and other NBA personalities reflect on the Laker legend’s life. Shaq talks about the value of community and friendship and how he works too much. He cries remembering Kobe Bryant: ‘It definitely changes me’. (09:56-19:13): What Do Bill Maher, Donald Miller, and John Piper Have in Common? In different ways, God used them to lead me to Christ, writes John Joseph in Christianity Today. Brian and Ian discuss this. (20:16-29:24): We are joined by author Bethany Jett, writer of “Platinum Faith”. She co-wrote the book with her best friend, Michelle Medlock-Adams. She discusses how our faith shares similar properties to that of Platinum. Suburban America is a strategic mission field, writes Ashley Hales in Christianity Today. Brian and Ian discuss, as church leaders, how mission is affected and done in suburban Chicago. (39:50-49:58): “The Hypo-Politicization of the American Church” writes Seth Richardson in Missio Alliance. As we turn into the new year, Christians in the United States are facing a crisis that jeopardizes our capacity to be faithful witnesses. (49:58-59:57): RAPID FIRE! Katie Sowers becomes first woman to coach in the Super Bowl, which is awesome. Almost unbelievably, more Americans went to the library than the movies last year. Plus, this poor woman mistakes building foam for mousse. (59:57-1:10:29): Nadia Bolz-Weber tweets about redoing and reusing old sermons. Good or bad? Jarrod McKenna responds with an interesting metaphor. Brian and Ian, as pastors, concur with Jarrod’s response. (1:10:29-1:17:12): Brian and Ian’s “Weird Stuff We Found on the Internet”: You’d think space had enough room for two sattelites, and South Carolina has a high demand for piggy cuddlers. Bethany Jett is an entrepreneur at heart. She co-owns Serious Writer, Inc., and is the Vice President of Platinum Literary Services where she specializes in marketing, nonfiction proposal creation, ghostwriting, and developmental editing. She is also an Assistant Acquisitions Editor for Little Lamb Books, LLC, a faith-based children’s publishing house. Bethany’s motto is “Learn everything you can; teach as you go.” She is a multiple award-winning author and ghostwriter and finds joy speaking across the country at conferences, retreats, and camps for writers, women, college students, and teens. Bethany married her college sweetheart, Justin, and after a decade in youth ministry, they rejoined the military world. She is a homeschooling momma-of-boys, suspense-novel junkie who describes herself as “mid-maintenance” and loves cute shoes and all things girly. I spoke with Bethany about a time she and her husband were hurt by the church. So many of us can relate to similar experiences either within the church or outside the church and I wanted to see how Bethany found healing and ended up discovering a new path in life for her and Justin! You will be so encouraged by what she has to say!

Authors Michelle Medlock Adams and Bethany Jett talk about their careers in writing and how they have grown and expanded into other avenues like Serious Writer Academy by forming partnerships and being over generous with people.
