Happy Friday and hope ya'll had a great Fourth! It's been a month since our last episode. That might be too long for our supporters, not long enough for our haters but here we are with another episode with just the two 동네친구s. We follow up on last episode's SOTW (stock of the week). Shim drops an absolute bombshell. We have a surprise bonus round. We're just trying to create a ~safe~ space for everyone. So, as always: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Close your eyes (unless you're driving!) and enjoy this episode of LRP! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/livingroompod/support
It's been a while. But we're back. After 2 long years and no one asking for it, the Living Room is back. The 동네친구s are now 동네 아저씨s and the banter is unreal. We catch you up to what we've been up to, big life updates, and a bit of a roadmap for where we're headed. So, as always: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Close your eyes (unless you're driving!) and enjoy the return of LRP! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/livingroompod/support
Are your eyes deceiving you? A new episode of LRP? No they're not: WE BACK YA'LL. We have a special, SPECIAL installment of the Living Room as we enter into the ACTUAL living room of our guest: Sam Ha. This recently married 동네친구 actually was one of our biggest critics and yet... here we are. After his wining and dining, Chun and Shim sit down and reflect on his various childhood culture shocks, his career path, his relationship with his wife Angie, and of course, the hardest season of his life. Great times were had by all parties. So, as always: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Close your eyes (unless you're driving!) and enjoy this episode of LRP! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/livingroompod/support
Yoooooooooo. Apologies for the delay, but we have another episode for ya'll in the Living Room! Our guest for this session is none other than our friend Jay Yi! He's not the prototypical OC 동네친구. Raised in Fontana (don't you wanna?), Jay shares about a precious core memory, feelings of protection, transitioning to the OC during his college days, and much, much more. If you're a fan of dry humor, humility, and laughing... this is the episode for you. So, as always: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Well, well, well. We just couldn't help it. We're back. We're back in the Living Room. This is not an April Fool's joke, 동네친구s! In our return to the Living Room, we welcome our friend Alex "Big Korea" Park to kick off our latest season (?). He shares about his Fullerton life, moving up the ranks at his company, and other stories that go way back with Chun and Shim. It's a good one. So, for the first time in three long months: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Close your eyes (unless you're driving!) and enjoy this episode of LRP! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/livingroompod/support
All good things must come to an end. In our last episode on the last day of 2021, Chun and Shim bid all of you farewell. What an incredible journey it has been since the start of this year, when we started this thing with a vague outline of an idea that has blossomed into a small community of 동네친구s. The two hosts look back and reflect upon the podcast: what it has meant to us, what we have learned from it, and of course, our weekly segments. We hope everyone has a happy new year with your loved ones : ) It's been a pleasure serving as your co-hosts. So, for the last time: Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas~ Our guest in the Living Room this week is the notorious Brendan "BANDO" Kim. Indubitably one of the most boolin' episodes we've had. Dude rolled through in a size small Brooklyn Nets hoodie. This 동네친구 goes into extreme details about his life. Some highlights include: a demographic breakdown of Sunset Lane Elementary School, the Ivy League, journey to coding, and a whole lot more. Will this be our last episode of the season? Or will Chun and Shim find a way to scrounge up another guest? Stay tuned to find out... But until then! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Gobble, gobble! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We are so grateful for each and every single one of you! Our guest in the Living Room this week is Andrew "A****** Tur***" Kim. This 동네친구 has a voice made for podcasting and utilizes it to share about his life and journey. He talks about his upbringing in the Valley, the origin of his infamous nickname (which he is in the process of shedding), his experience with all kinds of math, and the path leading to his position as a pastor and ThM student. Along the way many silly puns and dad jokes are made. There are moments in the recording where we're just laughing at how ridiculous we are. But hey, take a seat! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale, ESPECIALLY after the meals you had yesterday. Our guest this week in the Living Room is none other than the man, the myth, the legend: Jae "Mr. B" Byun. This 동네친구 opens up about his life story and gives us an in-depth look at his athletic career. His storytelling is in a class of its own and I'm (Shim) not gonna lie, recording this felt like an episode of 30 for 30 at times. Really inspirational stuff. He talks about the significance of sports--basketball in particular--in his life and how everything comes full circle with his current occupation as a teacher and coach at Sunny Hills High School. This easily could have been a 5 hour episode if we didn't have time constraints. Who knows, maybe he'll be back in the future? But until then, take a seat! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. Close your eyes (unless you're driving!) and enjoy another episode of LRP! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/livingroompod/support
The time has come to invite our orangest guest yet into the Living Room: Patrick Kyung. This 동네친구 is all in at whatever he gets himself into and this episode is no exception. We discuss his childhood days at Beechwood, the bullying and cold shoulders Chun gave him at Sunny Hills, his rise to ASB presidency, and the lifestyle he adopted better known as FPU (rice and beans, beans and rice). Lots of laughter here and just an overall good time spent with an FPC lifer before he makes his way back up to the Yay Area. So, take a seat! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. We welcome another member of the prestigious Fullerton Fruit Loops to the Living Room this week: Michael "Fat Mike" Shon. Chun realizes for the first time that he has known this 동네친구 for over half his life and we dive into his life story. He shares (not talk!) about transitioning from his early plans for a business career to pastoral ministry, the long story long about how he met his girlfriend Helen, and a current family update that caught everyone off guard. Needless to say, this episode is... TOUGH. So, take a seat! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. What do you get when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? That's exactly what happens in the Living Room this week as our guest shares her story. Tiffany Sky Kim is one of the very few people in the world that can match Chun's energy and 빙글빙글 level. Another of our very public supporters, this 동네친구 shares about her origins in the East Coast, her profession as a dental hygienist, and of course, the importance of family in one of the toughest moments of her life. Definitely a rollercoaster of emotions in this one. So, take a seat! Lean back, take a deep breath, and exhale. We have an absolute doozy of an episode this week. Jessica Shin, the artist formerly known as JKWON, joins us in the living room to share her story. This 동네친구 is not a casual! All throughout the conversation, both on and off air, she dropped moments and inside jokes... It was kinda weird... We talk about the generational meaning of her Korean name, our memorable first encounters, people-pleasing tendencies (which Chun resonates with HEAVY), along with her many, many accomplishments : - P It's a prolonged convo that took place over multiple days (!!!), but we're sure that you guys will all leave wanting more. The second episode of the second season. We got a good one for ya'll. Our guest in the living room is none other than Scott Yang. For those that don't know this 동네친구, Scott is lowkey and like an onion: many layers and many tears. We touch upon his celebrity co-worker (okay, maybe boss), his TOUGH upbringing walking to school, extremely sophisticated conversations regarding future plans, and, of course, the toughest moment of his life. We also have some fun fan interaction (FFI), an extremely tough QOTW, and a producer that joined us for this session. We're back. After a hiatus in the month of July, we pick up right where we left off and examine the story of the other half of LRP. Our guest in the living room is Daniel "Whole World" Chun. The 동네친구s get a little more in depth about who Chun is, why we deflect, and the significance of ranch, among other things. We've also made some changes: new song, new weekly segments, new schedule. But one thing that will never change about the Living Room is the focus on our neighborhood stories. So, come on in, lean back, take a deep breath, exhale, and enjoy the first episode of season 2! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/livingroompod/support
We welcome back two LRP alumni, Grace Park and David Ju, as we finish out this inaugural season of the pod! Due to various circumstances, the 동네친구s will go on a short hiatus to regroup, regather, reprepare, and reenvision the future of LRP. This is a straight Living Room session as the four friends yap about all sorts of wacky and zany things. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this far! We never thought that it would go this far and it's all thanks to ya'll! We have a curveball for ya'll this week. Our guest in the Living Room (if you can call him that) is none other than one half of the hosts: Daniel Shim. For the first time, Chun and Shim record in person and the shenanigans are off the charts. Chun grills Shim and asks unexpected questions that deviate from the normal script and the two 동네친구s share many laughs. We're back and we have a good, good friend of ours join us in the Living Room this week: Sylvia Kwon! This 동네친구 has been a good 누나 (older sister) to both of us and drops some extremely tough nuggets of wisdom as she shares her story. We talk about her childhood in Washington, the importance of family, and exploring her different passions in this jam-packed episode. Our guest in the Living Room this week is none other than Kevin "Hezhong" Qi! This 동네친구 is completely transparent as he shares about his unique experience growing up in El Monte, his passion for his career, and the importance of family in his life. We have Joyce Kipum Kim join the Living Room for an absolute banger! By far the longest session(s) we've had because of technical issues, we guarantee you will enjoy this episode as Joyce shares all about her life. This 동네친구 is super honest and provides a refreshing (read: female) perspective and thoroughly encouraged Chun and Shim as we got to know her story. We're back from our break with Kevin "vinniworship" Choi as the guest of honor in the Living Room. Chun shares the origin of our pod's name, Shim has it about up to here with the Book Club, and Kevin blesses us with his story. This has to be one of our most wholesome episodes as the 동네친구 is pretty much a walking testimony. We're back this week with none other than David "@kimbapjuju" Ju in the Living Room. This good friend of the pod comes in to share his story, including a legendary night that will always connect him with Shim for an extremely unlikely reason. We barely scratch the surface on David's entire story, partly because we get derailed during our trivia section and partly because there is so much more to this 동네친구. In this week's LRP, it's ~just the two of us~ We go through our weekly segments, focusing a bit more on the Kimchi Express (ALL ABOARD), sharing another classic Quote of the Week, and reflecting upon the past 10 episodes and where we'll go from here. We have another one of SHIM's friends on this episode of the pod, as Jung Min "Andrew" Kim, comes into the Living Room. After our weekly segments (shoutout to Fritz Coffee), the episode starts off EXTREMELY HOT as Jung and Chun go in on each other. Although this 동네친구 has spent more time interacting with Chun online than in person, you wouldn't know it as we go tiki taka all throughout. You're not gonna want to miss this one as Jung drops bombs near the end of the episode! Extremely tough episode of the Living Room this week.
