In this episode we hear from Naar Mfundisi-Holloway who shared a talk titled: ‘Listening Authentically: Going Beyond Serving To Understand' at the Salvation Army's Emerge pioneer gathering in May 2021. Dr Naar M'fundisi-Holloway is an Action Researcher at the Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army in London. Prior to that, she worked as a qualified secondary school teacher of Religious Education, Philosophy and Health and Social Care and as a Theology Lecturer at Vision College in Birmingham UK. She completed her Masters and PhD in Theology focussing on Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity at the University of Birmingham. Naar is an expert at Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity in Zambia and has written journal articles and book chapters on its history and matters relating to HIV/AIDS and politics. She is the author of the book entitled, Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity and Civic Engagement in Zambia published by Palgrave Macmillan (2018). Naar is a wife and mother and a native Zambian who lives in the United Kingdom.
In this episode, we hear from Major Judith Payne who shared a talk on Healthy Leadership at the Salvation Army's Emerge Pioneer Gathering in May 2021. Judith is a Salvation Army Officer who has served as part of divisional teams, William Booth College in the School for In-service Training and Development, Assistant Secretary for Personnel (Leadership Development), Director for Well Being and Principal of WBC since February this year. Over the years she has developed expertise in leadership, organisation and people development.
In this episode, we hear from Mohan Seeveratnam who shared a talk on Intercultural Church Planting at the Salvation Army's Emerge Pioneer Gathering in May 2021. Mohan is a bi-vocational church planter. He leads Mosaic church Harrow, which is an intentionally intercultural missional community that "seeks to celebrate unity in Jesus as well as cultural diversity- on earth as it is in heaven". He also works as a GP and is married to Sarah and they have 3 children. He is passionate that the church is at the forefront of affirming, honouring and celebrating cultural and ethnic diversity.
In this episode we hear from Michael Beck who shared a talk on Constructive Intelligence at the Salvation Army's Emerge pioneer gathering in May 2021. Reverend Dr. Michael Beck is the Director of the Fresh Expressions House of Studies at United Theological Seminary, Director of Remissioning for Fresh Expressions US, and Cultivator of Fresh Expressions Florida UMC. He is "a spiritual guide who helps people heal, love, and unleash imagination to create better lives, organizations, and communities."
In this episode we hear from Steve Aisthorpe who shares a talk on Rewilding the Church at the Salvation Army's Emerge pioneer gathering in May 2021. Steve works for the Church of Scotland as a Mission Development Worker, based in the Highlands. He has spent half his Christian life in one of the world's fastest growing churches and half in one of the fastest declining. He is a researcher, writer and coach. His first book, The Invisible Church, reflects on research among Christians who are not engaged with a local church congregation. His latest book, Rewilding the Church, uses a powerful metaphor from ecology to offer a bold and provocative vision for the Church.
In this episode we hear from Tony Daniels who shared a talk on the place of Host & Guest at the Salvation Army's Emerge pioneer gathering in May 2021. Tony is the Director of the Community Services Unit for The Salvation Army, and is passionate about quality community engagement and mobilising the saints (and others), to be equipped, empowered and resourced within local expressions of the Salvation Army, to deliver the Army's mission, through effective and impactive community based engagement.
In this episode we hear from Alan Hirsch who shared a talk on releasing movements at the Salvation Army's Emerge pioneer gathering in May 2021. Alan Hirsch is the author of numerous award winning books including The Forgotten Ways, 5Q and ReJesus. Alan is widely considered to be a global thought-leader on missional movements and leadership. He has worked with churches across the world as well as founding organisations that focus on pioneering leadership development and training and consulting on the church as missional movement.
In this first season we will be sharing some of the talks from the Salvation Army's Pioneer Gathering which was called: Emerge (from tomb to resurrection, from death to life).
