In this insightful episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, Avik Chakraborty sits down with Racheal Blackmore, a certified interrogator, journalist, and former editor-in-chief, to explore the journey from invisibility to authentic self-expression. Racheal shares her personal story of surviving abuse, losing her voice while helping others find theirs, and the slow, transformative process of reclaiming her visibility. This conversation uncovers the challenges heart-led entrepreneurs face in showing up authentically, the impact of trauma on self-expression, and practical steps to confidently share your story while connecting deeply with your audience. About the Guest: Racheal Blackmore is a certified interrogator, trained journalist, and former editor-in-chief with over 14 years of experience helping creators uncover their truths through storytelling. After surviving abuse and losing her own voice, Racheal now empowers entrepreneurs and creators to break free from silence, claim their authenticity, and communicate in ways that create real connection and impact. Key Takeaways: Racheal's journey highlights how trauma can teach us to disappear, making invisibility a form of self-protection. Heart-led entrepreneurs often struggle with visibility not due to strategy, but due to nervous system responses rooted in fear of being seen. Working behind the scenes—ghostwriting, scripting, or following templates—can feel safe but may hinder personal growth and impact. Healing and authentic visibility are gradual processes that require listening to your body, honoring micro-moments, and safely stepping into self-expression. Racheal's “Connect Method” emphasizes starting with recognition of self and others' journeys as the foundation for meaningful connection. The episode challenges listeners to distinguish between using their presence as a shield versus as a service. His next moves (dance moves) would prove to be the spark he needed for himself. Ever feel the tug between tradition and innovation in your teaching? In this episode, we get real about creative tension, versatility, and the art of making your yoga practice your own. We're talking curated inspiration, themed classes, and the power of choosing creativity—on and off the mat.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Creative tension is real — and necessary. Balancing yoga's roots with personal expression isn't easy. Honoring lineage, serving your students, and staying true to your creative self can coexist—but not without a little healthy friction.Versatility feeds inspiration. Whether it's teaching different styles, exploring new students, or shifting focus, creative growth often lives outside our comfort zone.Style and emphasis shape your teaching voice. Every teacher brings something unique to familiar sequences. Instead of “happy accidents,” make your personal style a conscious part of your class design.Curate your inspiration. Be intentional about where you draw creative energy—online or off. Cook, read, move, explore art—whatever fuels your imagination will fuel your teaching.Themes give form to freedom. Teaching around an idea, like exploring discomfort vs. suffering, brings depth and cohesion to your work. Creative parameters can actually unlock greater play.Creativity is a practice, not an accident. You must choose creativity—schedule it, honor it, and make space for it in the middle of real life.RESOURCESWorking In Yoga WebsiteWorking In Yoga NewsletterPodcast ShopDownload the Discussion Guide!Julia's IG

Grief is the wilderness no one prepares us for. The world tells us to move on and bury the pain. But what if grief wasn't meant to be erased but integrated into who we are becoming? Melissa Dlugolecki knows this firsthand. After losing her daughter Leyden to NEC, her life was shattered, her heart broken, her finances devastated, and her sense of identity stripped away. And yet, it was in that breaking that her rebuilding began. Today, she is a speaker, coach, and author of Scar Tissue, helping thousands transform grief into healing, resilience, and purpose. In this episode, Melissa opens up about the truth no one wants to talk about: grief doesn't disappear, it integrates. And within those scars are the very lessons that can crown us with identity, strength, and calling. What You'll Learn: Why “moving on” is the biggest myth about grief How to truly support someone going through loss How to recognize grief as a part of your identity, not a season you leave behind The surprising ways loss can expand our capacity for love How to carry grief with grace while stepping into new seasons Timestamps: (02:45) - Moving on vs integrating grief (05:12) - Why Melissa wrote Scar Tissue (11:31) - What to say (and not to say) to someone who's grieving (14:06) - Toxic positivity and the danger of “time heals” (19:46) - The biggest lesson Melissa learned from her daughter (22:09) - Radical responsibility: shifting from victim to creator (26:22) - How grief prepared Melissa for entrepreneurship (28:02) - Listeners, Distractors, and Doers (32:16) - Authentically grieving and scheduling grief (35:57) - The art of presence and authentic communication (38:41) - Living with alignment, saying no to what doesn't serve (41:47) - How to deal with a team member who's going through grief Grab a copy of Melissa's Book: Scar Tissue | https://scartissuebook.com/ Connect with Melissa Website | https://speakingofmelissa.com/ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/melissadlugolecki/ Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/melissa.dlugolecki YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/@MelissaDlugolecki Podcast | https://speakingofmelissa.com/podcast More from Emily & FORDIVINE: Website | https://meetemilyford.com Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/itsemily Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/itsemilymethod YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/c/ITSEMILYFORD Called & Crowned Podcast | https://www.instagram.com/calledandcrowned/ FORDIVINE | https://www.fordivine.com/

You know it can help you connect more deeply with your audience, but how do you do it well? And how do you find the right stories? The truth is, stories don't just explain what you do. They show people why you do it — and that's what builds trust, relatability, and resonance. So this week in The Brilliant Business Book Festival, I was delighted to speak with Susan Payton, author of The Business of Stories. Her approach is refreshingly simple: storytelling doesn't mean baring your soul or making yourself the hero. It means finding the gift in your experiences and sharing it in a way that helps others. Susan shows us that stories aren't about performance. They're about connection — letting your audience see your motivation, your values, and the heart behind your work. And she shared exactly how to get started. Prefer to WATCH instead of read? https://www.youtube.com/@melittacampbell “One story, one message, one call to action — that's what people connect with.” – Susan Payton, The Business of Stories Why Stories Build Trust When you share a story, people don't just learn what you do, they understand why you do it. That sense of motivation builds trust in a way that polished marketing copy never can. Susan has seen this first-hand: when she shared her story with a group of 1,500 women, she gained more paying clients in six weeks than in the entire year before. The difference? She let people see the passion behind her work. Keeping Stories Simple and Relatable Susan warns that many people try to tell too much at once. The secret is to keep it simple: one story, one message, one call to action. Relatability doesn't come from endless details. It comes from clarity around how you were thinking and feeling in the moment. That's what your audience connects with, as they can relate that to their own experiences. “Stories don't need to be dramatic to make an impact. Instead of asking: ‘Do I have a story?', the better question is: ‘Which story will serve my audience today?'” – Susan Payton, The Business of Stories Finding Stories Everywhere One of Susan's favourite reminders is that stories are all around us. And they don't need to be dramatic to make an impact. In fact, often it's the simple tales of our everyday life that are the most relatable. You could share a story that relates to: A moment from your childhood A client's journey Something you saw on TV Or even a lesson from everyday family life The question is not “do I have a story?” but “which story will serve my audience today?” A Favourite Story: The Gift Box Stall Susan shared the story of a small craft stall she came across in Salisbury. Their sign read: “It only takes a moment to create a moment.” The couple explained how small acts of kindness: cups of tea, hugs and kind words, had carried them through tough times. And how that prompted them to create their gift box business, making it easy for more people to share a moment of kindness. Their story touched Susan, and she still remembers it - and shares it with others - to this day. Her example highlights how we don't remember polished pitches. We remember stories that move us and we pass them on for years. Rewriting the Stories in Your Head The biggest barrier to storytelling often isn't finding stories or deciding which ones to share and when. It's the unhelpful stories we tell ourselves: “What if people judge me?” “What if they think I'm attention-seeking?” “What if I say the wrong thing?” Susan shared how she overcame a crippling fear of public speaking by reframing it: it wasn't about her. It was about the people who might need her message. Tweet: “Your story isn't about you. It's for the people you're here to help.” – Susan Payton, The Business of Stories Making Your Story Work for Your Audience Susan also reminds us that stories have to be purposeful. Whether you're writing an “About Me” page, crafting a keynote talk or simply posting on LinkedIn, your story needs to point back to the audience. It's not about being the hero. It's about positioning yourself as the guide, the right person to help your dream client take the next step. Final Thought to Reflect On You don't need a dramatic backstory to make an impact. Often, it's the everyday stories — the small lessons, the simple shifts — that resonate the most. You can make a lot of money selling your services as a consultant or coach, without being salesy, pushy, or inauthentic. In fact, great selling is just about being MORE yourself and serving your people -- whether they hire you or not. It's uncomfortable -- not because you're trying to convince people to give you money -- but because it requires you to make helpful offers to people without knowing whether they'll say yes or no. This is true vulnerability because it opens you to rejection. This week, I'm talking about how to do this effectively. It's not just the key to getting hired, but to delivering your services in a way where you are constantly being referred and landing repeat work.Royalty Free Music from Tunetank.com Track: Urban Legend by Musical Bakery https://tunetank.com/track/3362-urban-legend/

Welcome back to Connected Leadership Bytes where this week, we look back at a powerful conversation with personal branding expert Lesley Everett. Andy and Lesley explore why simply "doing a good job" is no longer enough for career advancement. Lesley introduces the crucial concept of the 'entrepreneurial mindset' for leaders within large organisations. This involves being more visionary, visible, and connected; moving beyond your job description to see the bigger picture. Their discussion looks into the importance of authentic visibility, emphasising that it's not about being the loudest person in the room but about strategically and genuinely making your expertise known. Lesley provides practical advice on uncovering your core values to guide your authentic brand and shares research highlighting that exposure and image—not just performance—are the primary drivers of promotion. This episode is a masterclass in building a memorable and effective personal brand that truly differentiates you, proving that your personality is the most powerful part of your brand. Key Takeaways Good Work is a Prerequisite, Not a Differentiator: Excelling at your job is the baseline expectation; it won't get you promoted on its own. Adopt an Entrepreneurial Mindset: Leaders must be visionary, build connections, and understand how their role fits into the larger strategic objectives. Visibility Drives Advancement: Research shows that exposure (who knows you and what they know about you) is far more critical for career progression than performance alone. Authenticity is Your Compass: Your personal brand must be rooted in who you truly are. Understanding your core values is fundamental to acting with consistency and authenticity. People are the Brand: An organisation's brand personality is built by its people. Your individual brand contributes directly to how the company is perceived. Actionable Insights Uncover Your Values Through Frustration: Identify things that consistently frustrate or anger you. Flip that negative emotion to discover the underlying positive value you hold (e.g. frustration with lateness reveals a value for respecting others' time). Practice Strategic Storytelling: Incorporate relevant personal stories into your presentations and team interactions. This makes your message more memorable and reveals your personality, helping you connect with others on a deeper level. Focus on Your Impact: Before communicating, shift your focus from what you want to say to the impact you want to have. Ask: "What do I want my audience to think, feel, or do after hearing this?" This will make your communication more effective. When Debbie White says coaches don't need to be louder or slicker to stand out, she means something that might feel backwards at first. After spending 20 years launching brands like Starbucks and building multiple seven-figure businesses, she's watched too many coaches try to sound like marketers instead of humans. The problem? People buy from people, not from polished marketing speak. And right now, there's so much formulaic content out there that it all sounds the same. Your ideal clients are scrolling past it because it feels like white noise.Debbie walks through her Lighthouse Effect concept—a way to get crystal clear on who you serve, what makes you different, and how to talk about it so your people think “Oh, it's you I've been looking for.” She talks about why being more yourself actually makes you magnetic to the right clients, and how repetition of the right message beats posting constantly with the wrong one.We get into the messy reality of finding your voice when you've been taught to sound professional. Debbie shares stories from her own clients—like the financial coach whose people said things like “looking at my numbers makes my throat tight” and “I'm terrified to check my credit card balance.” That's not budget management speak. That's real human fear, and when you can speak to that, everything changes. There's also an honest conversation about the COVID years and how they created this rise of formulaic business coaching that focused on revenue numbers instead of actually helping people build sustainable businesses. Debbie thinks we're seeing a backlash now—people are getting smarter about spotting content that doesn't feel real. She gives practical advice about creating content for one person instead of trying to talk to everyone. She explains why AI-generated content often falls flat and how to use it without sounding like every other coach out there. And she shares what she wishes every coach knew about their own value and why the world actually needs what they have to offer. If you've ever felt like you're blending in even though you know you have something unique, this conversation will help you figure out how to show up as yourself in a way that makes it ridiculously easy for the right people to find you.Links & Resources:Ultimate Growth GuideJoin the Facebook groupTake the persona quizVisit the Clarity Wins Clients websiteConnect with Debbie on LinkedInJoin the Lighthouse Marketing Facebook groupKey Takeaways:Stop trying to sound like a marketer and start sounding like a human. Because 95% of buying decisions happen in the emotional, subconscious part of our brain where we connect with real people, not polished marketing speak. The math is simple: Would you rather post generic content 20 times that gets ignored, or post one authentic piece that makes your ideal client think “that's exactly how I feel”?Your “professional mask” isn't protecting your credibility; it's making you invisible. When every coach sounds the same, being more of yourself becomes your competitive advantage. Here's what your clients are really saying: “I'm terrified to look at my numbers. It makes my throat tight.” Stop talking about “budget management” and start speaking to the actual fear keeping them up at night.

I've been part of several cults myself – religious, political, and even business ones! So I know the dynamics, and I'm susceptible to falling into those patterns myself. That's why I'm so passionate about finding a *healthier* way to build an audience. I don't want to be a "guru" telling people what to do. I want to empower them to find their own answers.
