Hey y'all, Shay and Haley here. We want this podcast to be full of fun and honest conversations about how to live life well in light of being Christ followers. We are certainly not experts, but we desire to invite you in to our real-time, real-life, authe
This week we discussed having a heart of repentance. We want to remain humble before God and allow Him to continue to clear out things in our lives that do not align with His character or will for us. When we let Him do that, we must be repentant of those areas and submit to Him again.
In this episode we discussed some of the habits and routines we have around the New Year. Some of these revolve around reflecting on the previous year, while others help us look ahead to the new year. We hope that these thoughts help you as you navigate how to begin 2023!
This week Haley followed up our conversation on gratitude with a little more as she has been in the Word and reflecting on the topic more this week. We hope the Scriptures and her words cause you to look intrinsically and search for the gratitude in your life.
After an extra week off with Thanksgiving, this week we jumped back into a conversation around the topic of thankfulness. It is so important for our hearts to remain thankful and full of gratitude as we seek to live for God. We have to practice the discipline of gratitude to help keep right perspective.
This week we jumped into Matthew 18 to discuss what it means to have childlike faith as we grow older. This is a tough tension to maintain as we search independence in this world, but must maintain dependence on God.
In this episode we discuss the importance of risk in our lives. Too often we get caught up in being safe rather than putting our trust in Jesus. God demonstrated what it looks like to risk by loving humanity even though so many would choose to not love Him back. What are we supposed to risk in our lives?
This week we talk about the value of laughter. Laughter is so healing and fun and God designed us to laugh. We hope your week is full of deep joy... and a ton of laughter.
This week is another conversation that Haley and Mary had talking through the value of community. I truly hope you have the people around you in your life that pour into you and that you can invest into.
This week we took some time to talk about the power of faith. Faith is such a hard aspect to nail down because it is believing in a God that we cannot see, but He loves us and wants what is best for us. Hope you have an awesome week!
In this episode we talk about transitions and the affect they can have on us. We have to submit our coping mechanisms, stressors, and anxieties to Jesus in order to persevere through crazy seasons of life.
After many weeks off of recording our podcast, we are finally back at it. For our first episode in Orange County, we took some time to share a detailed look at the move we recently made from Michigan to California. We wanted to be sure and take time to share all that God has done in order to bring us to this place. We hope this episode encourages you as you seek to say "yes" to God for all that He has for you.
This week Haley got to talk with her great friend, Mary. Mary lives in South Africa and the two of them have been friends for a few years now. I hope that their conversation regarding community will encourage you to think about your community and the power of it in our lives.
This week while Haley was on a work trip, Shay was flying solo on the podcast. He talked about the importance of retreating. What does a healthy rhythm of retreat for yourself look like? What questions can we ask ourselves in order to ensure we stay or get healthy? Hopefully this speaks to you in a way that encourages you to embark on a retreat of your own.
This week we chatted about the Scripture passage from Matthew 4:11. In this passage we see Jesus' humanity show through and the importance of soul care in our own lives. We hope you are doing something this week to engage in caring for your soul.
This week we talked about how we are products of our parents, but how to avoid doing the things that you believe were unhealthy. There is so much to be thankful for, but we recognize that there are things that we want to do differently in our lives; this episode addresses that very tension. We hope it leads you into other conversations to continue to grow.
This week Athaleyah joined Shay on the podcast to talk about Easter from a 3 year old's perspective. We hope this episode is fun and makes you laugh, while reminding you of the childhood wonder around our faith in a Heavenly Father who loves you.
This week we talk about the importance of purging and how it often can be corollated with deeper things going on. Hopefully this episode encourages you to ask questions about why you spend your money or time on different things.
This week we wanted to have an intentionally fun conversation about things we love. We hope our conversation makes you laugh and encourages you to talk about things that you find fun too!
This week Haley shared about what she had recently learned and was reminded of as she studied for her message to her students.
This week we decided to talk about John 13:35 where Jesus tells us that the world will know we are His disciples by the way we "love one another". This is a powerful verse that has a number of implications with it, and so we wanted to talk about the reality of this verse in our lives.
This week we had the opportunity to talk with a good friend, Zach Ellens, about missions and other cultures. Zach spent a year in Guatemala and has been there on many different occasions and so we chatted about our experiences together.
We are back after having to take a week off. This week we chose to talk about joy. Sometimes the reality of joy is misunderstood. We can experience joy in all circumstances, and that is what we seek to do as Christ-followers.
This week we dove into a conversation regarding the motives behind the decisions we make within relationships. While we are not psychologists, we have learned to search ourselves in a way to become familiar with the underlying parts of our humanity that come out in our everyday lives. We are not experts at all, but I hope our exploration on this topic allows you to do your own soul searching.
To kick off our first recording of 2022, we decided to discuss the role of authenticity in our lives. Too many times people think being authentic is the end goal, but it is just the half-way point. Where do we go from a place of authenticity is the conversation that needs to be had. That is when true growth can happen. I hope this conversation is helpful and encouraging for you this week.
This week we had Mark back on our podcast to talk about his recent trip to Qatar to volunteer for the Arab World Cup. I hope you enjoy listening to Mark's story of learning and experiencing many new things.
This week Haley had the opportunity to respond to some of our conversations around marriage. I truly hope this helps give more of a well rounded view of marriage with her input added.
This week Shay took on the episode by himself for a follow-up to the marriage conversation from last week. This week Shay shared some of his thoughts regarding spiritual leadership and expectations we have of our marriage and our spouse.
This week we decided to have a conversation around marriage. Marriage is not easy, and working on yourself is no cake walk either. We wanted to have an honest conversation about the different aspects of being married and being healthy. We truly hope this episode helps you as you process through these different areas of your own life, whether you are married or not.
This week we hosted a friend of ours, Mark Winogrocki, to discuss autism and the Church. This is an important conversation to be having in order to help each individual feel seen, heard and cared for.
This week Haley and Athaleyah had a short conversation. We hope this week's episode brings you some smiles and refresh your heart.
This week we decided to take some time talking about Feasting and Fasting. Throughout the Bible we see Feasts in order to celebrate God and His provisions. We also see a demonstration of Fasting. We wanted to discuss the balance of these two, seemingly, opposite actions and the beauty of them working together.
This week we jumped into a conversation around managing stress. There has been a lot around the Bogear house lately and so we thought it might be helpful to chat through how we manage stress and how we struggle with it. We truly hope that this conversation is beneficial for you to process healthy ways for you to manage your stress. Have a great week.
Welcome back for Part 2 of Haley's story. I hope hearing her journey (in part) is helpful to know where she has come from as we get to share through this podcast. Have an awesome week!
This week we circled back around to Haley's story. A few weeks back Shay shared his story and so now we are taking time for Haley to share her story. This is just Part 1 of what she has to share, so be sure to come back next week for Part 2 to hear Haley's heart.
This week we decided to take some time to share on humility. We have talked about humility many times before, but felt it was important to discuss on its own. Hopefully this is a helpful conversation for you to begin (or continue) thinking through areas in your life to continue to fight for humility instead of allowing our pride to get in the way.
This week we discussed the concept of being a part of a remnant. To live radically as Christ followers in our world means we will look different than the world looks. We must be willing to be a part of the few that will stand in adversity and always follow God in everything we do no matter what.
This week we discussed different rhythms that we each have in our lives to pursue spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health in our lives. I truly hope that this conversation is beneficial to you in a way that helps you in creating rhythms for your own life.
We hope this week's podcast encourages you to be encouraging to others. As we learn the value of encouragement and desire to take the focus off of ourselves, it becomes such a powerful form of communicating life into other people. Have an awesome week!
This week we jumped into a conversation around what we are currently learning. We hope that you are reflecting on what you are learning and that this conversation would encourage you to continue pursuing growth.
Welcome back to Part 2 of our conversation with Peter and Lindsay Luttrull. This week we finish up the conversation as Peter and Lindsay expound on the second and third movements that were outlined in Part 1. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, please go back and listen to that and then proceed to the remaining conversation in Part 2. Thank you all! Have a great week!
This week we introduce you to Peter and Lindsey. They are great friends of ours and are currently serving at a church service in Garfield Park in Indianapolis. This church service focusses on meeting the tangible needs in the community. Peter and Lindsey also experienced and outline 3 movements in their faith journey. The conversation was long enough that we broke it into Part 1 and Part 2. I hope Part 1 is encouraging for you this week.
This week we chose to talk through the importance of Luke 9:23-25. This passage expresses the crucial need to die to our fleshly, selfish desires. It is incredibly difficult to make the decision to die to ourselves day after day, moment after moment, but it doesn't change the fact that it is what Jesus is calling us to. We have an opportunity to gain our lives, but we must choose to lose it first.
It was an honor to have Kris and Ashley Kinsey on this week to talk about Creativity. As created beings designed by a Creator, there is something in each of us that compels us to create. I truly hope that this episode inspires you to look for the beauty in all created things.
This week we jumped into a conversation around finances. Money is a difficult topic for many, but it is a crucial one for us as Christ-followers to have. We can't get away from money, so we must learn how to handle it well. Hopefully this conversation helps you in your journey to live surrendered to God in every part of your life.
This week we took time to discuss the importance of seeing God all around us in everyday life. We are sacred beings made by a sacred God and therefore our lives have the potential to be invaded by a holy God at any minute. I hope you take time to listen and then look for God in your normal rhythms throughout the week.
We thought it would be a good idea to give more context to our podcast by sharing our stories with you all. In this first part, Shay shares in more detail (but not extensively) parts of his story. We hope that this encourages you to reflect back on where you have come from and why you operate the way you do in order to make the changes you need to in your life to align with Christ.
During this episode we talk about expectations. From expectations of God to your spouse to your church to yourself. How do we begin to think in a right mindset about what others should be doing? What does it look like to expect some things from others, but maybe not in the way we think it should look? We hope this episode is helpful to you and draws you closer to God this week.
For our Memorial Day release, we decided a conversation regarding service would be an appropriate topic. In this episode we took time processing through what it might look like to have a mindset of service as we seek to live and love as Jesus did.
Rest. This week we discussed the concept of rest and peace. We so badly need to rest in the presence of God on a regular basis. God created us for relationships, work and to rest. We need the balance of these different aspects in our lives and, therefore, we must practice rest. I hope that this conversation spurs other thoughts and ideas for you of how you need to be resting throughout your days and weeks.
We had the opportunity to have on multiple guests! Shay's parents, Jim and Jerolyn, and his brother-in-law and sister, Chris and Lauren, all joined in for a fireside chat. We have all had to do things that went against what we felt and were difficult, but we did them because it is what we know God has asked us to do. I truly hope this encourages you to continue to press forward into where God is calling you!
This week Shay and Athaleyah took a few minutes to talk about Haley on this short Mother's Day edition. Athaleyah also shared some stories from the Bible. I hope this lighthearted and adorable episode puts a smile on your face. I am so thankful for all of you taking time to tune in and participate with Spiritual Side-note.
