"Choices, Decisions, and Motives is to challenge believers to move away from spiritual complacency and lukewarmness. Anita talks about the human heart by analyzing how our choices, decisions, and underlying motives either construct a life of deep intimacy with Christ ("Builders") or align us with the divisive, ungodly patterns of the world ("Mockers/Scoffers").Teaching Outline Available on 4doesproduction.org/4Store
This sermon centers on the critical distinction between performing right actions with wrong motives, using Simon the Sorcerer, Jehu, and the Pharisees as biblical examples. It highlights how genuine faith and obedience must spring from a heart aligned with God's glory, not personal gain, recognition, or self-advancement. Though these individuals engaged in righteous acts—belief, judgment, giving, prayer—their underlying motives were tainted by pride, ambition, or desire for power, revealing a heart not fully surrendered to God. The preacher challenges the congregation to examine their own motivations, urging that all service, sacrifice, and devotion be rooted solely in love for God, not in expectation of reward or approval. Ultimately, the message calls for a transformation of motive: doing all things not for what one might receive, but because God is worthy of love and worship in and of Himself.

Ghislaine Maxwell's latest habeas corpus petition appears less a genuine attempt to overturn her conviction than a strategic maneuver aimed at slowing the release of potentially damaging records tied to the broader Epstein network. Legal experts note that Maxwell, who has long understood the improbability of securing her freedom, stands to benefit not from exoneration but from procedural delays that could obstruct transparency efforts. By filing an appeal that is unlikely to succeed, Maxwell triggers a pause in disclosures and creates additional hurdles for investigators, effectively buying time for the political figures and institutions whose interests intersect with her own. The move aligns with a longstanding pattern in which Maxwell leverages the legal system not to challenge evidence, but to strategically obscure it.Observers argue that these delays also serve the Trump administration, which has faced scrutiny over its handling of issues related to Epstein and Maxwell. By benefiting from slowed document releases and postponed court actions, the administration avoids renewed public attention on past associations, photos, and communications that have fueled political controversy. While officials publicly distance themselves from Maxwell, the timing of her legal filings has repeatedly coincided with periods in which transparency efforts intensified, prompting accusations that her appeals function as informal buffers for those who stand to be implicated by unsealed records. Together, Maxwell's procedural maneuvers and the administration's apparent reliance on these delays have raised concerns of a broader effort to manage fallout rather than confront the full extent of the Epstein-Maxwell network's influence.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.
Anthony Davis audio sets the tone, as he explains that while the Washington Wizards may look like a struggling organization from the outside, he respects the ownership, coaching staff, and people behind the scenes. Chris Russell uses those comments as a jumping-off point, questioning whether they hint at deeper uncertainty and suggesting Davis may already be signaling a desire to move on. From there, Russell pushes back on the narrative that Washington gave up nothing to acquire Davis, emphasizing that even if the return wasn't massive, the assets involved still carried real value. The conversation then flows into what the next steps could look like if Davis ultimately wants out, including how the Wizards would approach a potential trade, what kind of compensation they could realistically expect in return, and how the situation impacts the franchise's direction moving forward.

Where are they taught—and what are they being taught? This episode takes a hard look at radicalization, ideological conditioning, and the patterns that produce hatred, violence, and moral collapse. We examine how individuals can be shaped to despise their own nation, justify evil, and celebrate horrific acts—sometimes to the point where crowds take pleasure in destruction instead of mourning loss.We also explore troubling cultural signals: the glorification of intellectual brilliance without moral grounding, public projects that reshape historical memory, and the dangers of mass movements that excuse or applaud wicked behavior. Scripture warns us to beware of crowds that delight in evil rather than truth, justice, and accountability. In a time when waste, fraud, abuse, and moral confusion abound, this episode calls listeners to discernment—to question narratives, confront indoctrination, and resist the pull of collective corruption.Truth matters. Motives matter. And the crowd is not always right. The Voice in the Wilderness does not endorse any link or other material found at buzzsprout.More at https://www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org/
today we examine a foundational yet often underappreciated element of modern criminal investigations: victimology as the starting point. In forensic psychology, detectives and behavioral analysts frequently begin by constructing a detailed psychological and behavioral profile of the victim—rather than the suspect—to reverse-engineer motive, assess lifestyle exposure, and identify risk patterns. This evidence-based forensic method provides critical crime scene insights and illuminates offender psychology long before a suspect emerges. By integrating criminology theories such as routine activity theory and lifestyle theory, victimology transforms seemingly random crimes into structured patterns. Throughout this episode, we will explore the core principles of victimology within forensic psychology, review educational case studies that demonstrate its practical application, and extract actionable takeaways for understanding criminal behavior analysis. This approach underscores how forensic psychology and detective investigation techniques work together to deliver justice through systematic, evidence-based methods.

In 2017, Argentina had the highest corporate income tax rate in Latin America. Reducing it was politically popular and economically desirable. Getting it through a Congress where the governing coalition held just 19% of Senate seats, while the fiscal deficit ran at close to 8% of GDP, was a harder problem. A package of reforms was planned, revenue-neutral and phased over five years: corporate tax on reinvested profits would fall from 35% to 25%; a minimum-wage deduction would reduce the payroll tax burden on firms employing informal workers; energy, alcohol, and sugar taxes would be reorganised on rational, emissions-based principles; and provincial governments would agree to phase out the cascading "ingresos brutos" sales tax in exchange for limits on public spending. In this week's VoxDev Talk, Sebastian Galiani, who served as Deputy Minister of Economy in Argentina and led the design of the reform, tells Tim Phillips how the Macri government attempted to reform its tax structure, and what it teaches us about policy. Credibility, he says, was the biggest constraint: in a country as economically volatile as Argentina, what matters is not only what the law says, but whether investors believe it will survive a change of government. The research behind this episode:Afonso, Santiago, and Sebastian Galiani. 2025. His research spanning political economy, public finance, and Latin American development has examined how institutions, property rights, and fiscal policy shape economic outcomes. He served as Deputy Minister of Economy in Argentina in 2017, where he led the design of the tax reform he examines in this episode.Research cited in this episodeIngresos brutos is a cascading sales tax levied by Argentina's provincial governments, applied each time a good changes hands along the supply chain. Unlike a value-added tax, it allows no deduction for taxes already paid at earlier stages; the burden compounds with the length of the production chain, making it particularly punishing for manufactured goods that pass through many hands. Galiani's team negotiated a deal under which the provinces agreed to phase this system out over five years and move toward a simpler, less distortive sales tax structure.Second-best reform is the practice of improving a policy system as far as constraints allow rather than designing for the theoretically optimal outcome that cannot be achieved in practice. Galiani frames the 2017 reform explicitly in these terms: the design team mapped the distance between Argentina's actual tax system and optimal taxation, then asked how far they could move in that direction given the fiscal, political, and negotiating constraints they faced. The result departed from the ideal in every dimension; it was nonetheless a genuine improvement on what existed before.Escape clauses are provisions written into legislation that suspend or modify specific commitments if defined trigger conditions are met. The 2017 reform included several: the inflation adjustment for the calculation of corporate assets, for example, would apply only if inflation continued to fall. Galiani describes escape clauses as essential when designing policy in high-volatility environments where external shocks are not exceptional events but a predictable feature of the landscape.Related reading on VoxDevHow should economic researchers give policy advice? Stefan Dercon argues that giving second-best advice, taking into account what is politically achievable rather than what is theoretically optimal, often produces better outcomes than the standard model of advocating for the ideal and waiting. How progressive taxation affects tax compliance in developing countries. Reforms that boost progressivity and are effectively communicated can yield higher compliance alongside greater fairness; evidence that the design and communication of a reform matter as much as its content.Improving payroll-tax compliance through decentralised monitoring: Evidence from Mexico. Evidence that even formal firms evade payroll taxes, and that giving workers the right incentives to monitor their employers' wage reporting can substantially improve compliance; relevant context for Argentina's effort to reduce the payroll tax burden on unskilled workers.

This week, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a young woman disappears on her way to a retreat, for a new job. Her van is found very close to where she was last seen, but with hundreds of extra miles on it, and some strange, and telling clues. She is eventually found, horribly murdered & possibly tortured. This leads to a long & inept investigation, that focused on the wrong man. Thankfully, the victim's family did everything they could, leading to a completely new suspect, and the scary thought that this killer could've done this an untold number of times!! Along the way, we find out that fondue goes in & out of fashion, that people are more loyal to their fast food of choice than you would imagine, and that when there's a possible serial killer on the loose, always look at all the truckers in the area, before moving on to other suspects!! Through the story of Simon the Sorcerer, Christine reveals the difference between authentic faith and counterfeit spirituality, and why our motives matter more to God than our gifts. In a world obsessed with visibility, influence, and spiritual performance, it's easy to mistake appearance for transformation. But Scripture reminds us that the gifts of God can never be bought, earned, or manipulated—God cares deeply about the condition of our hearts. If you've ever wrestled with comparison, spiritual ambition, disappointment, or hidden bitterness, this message will help you realign your heart with what truly matters and pursue the genuine work of God in your life. ✨ What you'll learn: • How to discern between genuine and counterfeit spiritual influence • Why motives matter more to God than outward success • How bitterness quietly blocks spiritual freedom • Why the gifts of God can never be bought, earned, or manipulated

"All my writing before this has been poetry, and over the years in my books of poems I found the lines kept getting longer. I think the move towards prose had me working on this journal form, which I've not done. Many people write their journals their entire lives. For me, it's a more dipping in and out of this form of work. I began this segment when my father-in-law was dying, and it began as a small series of prose poems about his decline. What I found myself wanting to do then is weave in stories from work, how they were intersecting with what was going on at home. And the thought that all analysts, all therapists, live in this zone of interwoven stories where we're following multiple narrative threads at once, but we tend to talk to each other in terms of one case story at a time. So it was important to me to have all those levels present, because that's really what a lived life is, is being immersed simultaneously and in all of those." Episode Description: Alice's 'meditative memoir' invites us into the multiple narratives in analysts' lives both within and outside of their offices. She shares how we inevitably bring our own experiences into each clinical hour which forms part of the musicality of the work. Her attention remains on the inside/outside aspects of the body, the mind and our world views. Mortality is never far from her awareness and is reflected in the work she engages in with her patients. She introduces 'Blake' to us and how after 12 years of vital work together, he dies quite prematurely. We discuss the intimate nature of analytic work and how it becomes part of our own inner life. Alice shares a saying of her at times 'directionally challenged' grandfather, "We are headed in the proper general direction" - a theme applicable to many venues of life and psychoanalysis. We close with her reading a poem of Galway Kinnell which concludes with "The still undanced cadence of vanishing" Our Guest: Alice Jones, MD is a personal and consulting analyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. She is the author of seven collections of poems and Cadence of Vanishing, a memoir. A collection of essays titled Poetry, Depth, and Endings in Psychoanalysis: Distant Music is forthcoming from Routledge in 2026. Recommended Readings: Alice Jones. (2025) Ever Ending.
