Summer is here - we enter the long days and sultry nights with the garden looking glorious - but always looking to the horizon for a little bit of rain to keep things looking green and lush. Herbaceous borders are set to maximum colour, vegetable beds seem to multiply in growth weekly and the gardener's tan is ever present. So enjoy the long summer days, take some time to appreciate time in your garden and join the Talking Heads pair as they continue to look after their planty spaces, as well as enjoying their gardens at home. After many weeks apart, Lucy and Saul finally catch up with each other (via Zoom) to discover what's been going on in their respective gardening lives. Saul is still recovering from The Chelsea Flower Show, and Lucy is busy prepping for her Beautiful Border at BBC Gardeners' World Live at the NEC. In the meantime, the dry spell has ended with rain falling in both Devon and Essex - giving the duo's gardens a much needed rest from the scorching conditions. We went all-in on AI as a company, pulling our entire team off work every single Friday for six weeks, and it cost us thousands of dollars and a completely flat revenue month to pull off. That same experiment is now saving us well over six figures a year in automations alone. In this episode, Josh and Dylan break down exactly what happened during "AI Fridays," what blew their own minds, what it cost, and the four lessons every founder needs before throwing their own team into the deep end with AI.Inside this episode:The four levels of AI users, from "I just chat with it" to running parallel agents (and how to climb fast)Why the entire team abandoned ChatGPT for Claude, and what actually makes one AI "built for business"The live dashboard Dylan built in Claude to track the exact dollars and hours the team saved every single weekHow non-technical team members built customer support bots, client health scoring tools, and full landing pages with zero coding backgroundThe AI sales coach that grades every call straight from a Fireflies recording, plus a P&L tool that flags your weakest Klaviyo flows against industry benchmarksThe personal app Josh built for his wife in under a week (and why "I'm not technical" is no longer an excuse)What "usage," "context," "skills," and "connectors" really mean, and the $1,000 overage lesson nobody warns you aboutWhen to use Claude chat vs. Claude Coworker vs. Claude Code vs. Claude Design, and the one thing you should never let AI do for youThis wasn't cheap and it wasn't comfortable, but the speed the team moves now made every dollar worth it. If you feel behind on AI and have no clue where to even start, this is the episode that shows you how to catch up fast.Loved this episode? Host: Jonathan Jay Format: Live panel Q&A — Riverside Studios, Hammersmith Guests: Seven Inner Circle members   Overview Two big topics dominate this episode. First, the Inner Circle share exactly how they're deploying AI — not in theory, but in practice, right now. Then the conversation shifts to business partnerships: what makes them work, what makes them fail, and two cautionary tales from panellists who learned the hard way. AI in Practice The panel go well beyond buzzwords. One member is building private internal large language models to train salespeople rather than replace them — capturing every call to create an expert system. Another has automated six hours of compliance work per client into seconds: call recorded, transcript uploaded, CRM populated, recommendation letters generated, all without human input. A third used Claude to sift 200 job applications down to a ranked shortlist and hired the top candidate. Practical tools mentioned include Otter, Fireflies, and Crisp (for analysing discovery calls). The panel's warning: AI will tell you what you want to hear — always interrogate the output. Business Partnerships — the Honest Version The panel are candid. Partnerships almost always end, and rarely cleanly. One consistent failure mode: one partner outworks the other and resentment builds. The advice — never go 50/50, always have a majority partner, write a thorough shareholders' agreement (not a £750 cut-price version), include a 'bad leaver' clause, and build in a fair buyout mechanism where the person making the offer doesn't get to choose whether they're buying or selling. Jonathan's Partnership Story Jonathan shares a personal case study: a business growing to £200,000 a week in sales, two indicative offers (one at £21.5m), that collapsed when his partner refused the non-compete clause, withdrew his contacts, and then demanded £10.5m for a stake in a business now in freefall. The legal bill alone was £50,000. The lesson: never skimp on the shareholders' agreement. Key Takeaways •       Use AI as a thinking partner — feed it your challenges and let it build your plan. •       Automate the admin, free the humans — AI should handle low-value tasks, not replace relationships. •       Never go 50/50 — someone must have the casting vote. •       Spend properly on your shareholders' agreement — it is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy. •       Build in a buyout mechanism from day one — and agree the exit strategy before you start.

In this episode of The ChatGPT Experiment, Cary walks through three simple ways to personalize tools like ChatGPT and Claude so they feel more useful, relevant, and tailored to how you work. He covers custom instructions, memory, and connectors or sources, explaining how each one can help you get better answers, cut down on annoying habits, and connect AI tools to the apps and files you already use. 3 Key Takeaways Custom instructions are a great starting point. Cary explains how they help shape the way ChatGPT or Claude responds, including tone, length, writing style, and things you do or don't want. Memory is worth checking once in a while. Cary compares memory to a backpack and encourages listeners to review what the tool remembers, delete what is no longer useful, and correct anything that feels off. Connectors and sources can make AI more useful. By connecting tools like Google Drive, Gmail, Canva, Fireflies, Adobe PDF, or other apps, users can create smoother workflows and get more value from their AI tool. Every year for two weeks between mid-May and mid-June, Congaree National Park in South Carolina is home to a fairy-tale-like display of flashing lights. These rhythmic performances happen all because of thousands of fireflies, flashing their belly lanterns at exactly the same time. According to the National Park Service, there are just three species of these synchronous fireflies in North America, making the experience all the more magical for the lucky visitors who get the chance to see them. Book a call at 8figureagency.coGuest: Ben Fisher, founder of Skinny and Bald. Hampton member. Been coding since fifth grade. Has been CEO twice, CTO three times. Describes himself as 60% product, 40% engineer. The pull: Ben is one of the sharpest guys in the Hampton AI channel. This is his second time on the pod. Jordan came with real questions about funnels, databases, and skills — Ben answered live, then pulled up his actual meeting-processing skill on screen share. What we coveredThe build vs. buy question. Jordan's giveaway funnel pulls comments → emails → form fills → booked calls across LinkedIn and X, six campaigns a week. His partner said use GoHighLevel. Ben's framing: build custom with Claude when you control the maintenance, use a tool when it solves 80%+ without workarounds. Texting is the exception — Twilio's regulatory rabbit hole can eat days even with Claude Code.Databases and custom funnels. Jordan wants the funnel experience to mirror what the user clicked — landing page copy, follow-up sequence, everything. Ben's example: he still uses Kit.com for his newsletter, but layered custom API logic on top. He didn't rebuild Kit. He enriched it.The thing that separates real builders from vibe coders. “What distinguishes really effective builders really comes down to workflow.” Same models. Same Claude. Different results because of how people work. Ben's non-negotiable: test-driven development. Plan first. Write the tests. Then build. Otherwise Claude tells you it shipped something that doesn't exist. The “your friend Ben is absolutely correct” story. Hampton buddy building a chief of staff agent in Slack and WhatsApp. Asked Claude if it was secure. Claude said yes. Ben listed four gaps. Buddy pasted Ben's message into Claude. #396: How to Hear What a Client Isn't Saying on the Discovery Call

High-Income Business Writing

Play Episode Listen Later May 10, 2026 17:22

Most prospect calls go sideways before you ever pitch anything. Too often, this is the result of being in "presentation" mode when you should have been in listening mode. In this episode, I walk you through what active listening actually looks like on a live client call. Practical moves you can make in real time, moment to moment, in an actual conversation. A few weeks ago, I recorded an episode on the six signals that tell you what kind of help a prospect actually needs. A few of you wrote in with the same follow-up question: okay, but what does this look like in an actual conversation? What am I listening for, moment to moment? That's what I cover today — three of the most important signals to watch for, the graceful redirect technique for shifting a conversation without making a prospect feel corrected, and why silence might be the most underused tool you have on a discovery call. I also share a story from one of my own clients: a home services company that came to me thinking they needed lead gen campaigns. Within the first meeting, it was clear they needed something else entirely. That early pivot turned a 30-day project into a 14-month retainer. What You'll Learn Why treating a prospect call as a pitch puts you in the wrong mode from the start How to set up your calls so you're free to listen actively, not scramble for notes The three key signals to watch for: symptom-only descriptions, wrong format requests, and capability anxiety What each signal usually means and what kind of offer it points to How to use the graceful redirect to shift a conversation without pressure or awkwardness Why silence is a tool, and how to use it to surface what prospects don't say upfront The 70/30 rule for prospect calls, and why it changes everything about how you show up Key Ideas & Takeaways 1. Listening Session First, Pitch Second. Your only job in the first 15 to 20 minutes of a prospect call is to understand what's really going on. Ask good questions. Sit with the answers. A prospect who feels genuinely heard is far more open to what you suggest next. 2. The Three Signals. Symptom-only descriptions usually mean the client isn't ready for execution yet. They need clarity first, so a strategy session or audit may be a better fit. Wrong format requests are an opportunity to add value quickly by naming the mismatch before anyone commits to a scope. Capability anxiety looks like a content conversation that drifts toward questions about AI adoption, team confidence, or brand voice risk. That's a signal someone wants guidance instead of written deliverables. 3. The Graceful Redirect. Three moves, in order: acknowledge what they came in asking for, name what you're seeing, and propose a better-fit next step. No pressure, no lecture. And it positions you as someone who thinks strategically. 4. Silence Is a Tool. When a prospect finishes describing a problem, resist the urge to fill the space. Wait two or three seconds. What comes out next is usually more revealing than everything they said before. The real constraint. The internal politics. The real reason they're talking to you now. 5. The 70/30 Rule. The prospect should be talking 70% of the time. You should be talking 30%. If the ratio flips, you've slipped back into pitch mode. Action Steps Set up a note-taking tool (Fathom, Fireflies, or similar) to join your Zoom discovery calls automatically, and ask permission at the start of each call to record. This frees you to listen instead of scramble. Before your next prospect call, identify which signal you're most likely to miss: symptom-only, wrong format, or capability anxiety. Prep one or two questions for each. Practice the graceful redirect in low-stakes conversations first. Acknowledge, name, propose. After your next call, review the transcript. Look for the moments when the prospect kept talking after a pause. That's usually where the real information was.

The post WrestleMania 42 roster cuts hit every level of the company, with Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Zoey Stark, Alba Fyre, Nikki Cross, Joe Gacy, Bo Dallas, Dexter Lumis, Erik Rowan, Apollo Crews, Santos Escobar, the Motor City Machine Guns, Tyra Mae Steele, and several NXT prospects all gone. Kairi Sane's release is the hardest one to explain. She was active on television, coming off a singles win over IYO SKY on the April 13 Raw, and appeared to be headed toward a bigger story with Asuka. IYO SKY called the timing unexpected, Bayley said she was struggling to process it, and Kairi thanked fans while saying she would "set sail… in my own time." Aleister Black's exit raises similar questions after wins over Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, and Matt Cardona. These did not feel like talents being phased out creatively. They felt like cuts made while stories were still moving. The Wyatt Sicks were also wiped out, with Nikki Cross, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, Erik Rowan, and Bo Dallas all released. Nikki Cross later called her time as Abby the Witch "the honour of a lifetime," tying the group back to Bray Wyatt, Brodie Lee, the Windham family, the Huber family, and the Fireflies who kept that world alive. The locker room reaction showed how heavy the day was. Alexa Bliss honored Nikki Cross and the Wyatt Sicks. Rhea Ripley called it a sad day. Chelsea Green and Piper Niven praised Alba Fyre. Asuka, Bayley, and IYO SKY supported Kairi Sane. Nathan Frazer gave a heartfelt tribute to Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, crediting the Motor City Machine Guns for helping him during his first year on the main roster. At the same time, WWE is pushing new names forward. Ricky Saints is set for his SmackDown debut next week in Tulsa after one final NXT match against Shiloh Hill. Ethan Page and Sol Ruca already arrived on Raw, while Joe Hendry is set for his official Raw debut with a concert. SmackDown also got a jolt from Fatal Attraction, as Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid attacked Paige, Brie Bella, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and Rhea Ripley. Blake Monroe is also headed to the blue brand after a vignette for "The Glamour," bringing her résumé as Mariah May, Owen Hart Cup winner, former AEW Women's World Champion, and former NXT Women's North American Champion with her. Cody Rhodes used SmackDown to send a pointed message beyond Randy Orton. Still showing the effects of Orton's punt, Cody called out the "outside forces" affecting his WrestleMania path, saying they are "0-3" and telling them to send their best or stay out of his business. The line appears aimed at TKO influence and connects to past WrestleMania shifts involving Roman Reigns, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and John Cena. Tiffany Stratton also turned a missed WrestleMania into momentum, defeating Giulia to win the WWE Women's United States Championship. The win ended Giulia's 112 day reign and gave Stratton her third singles title in WWE. In her interview with Joey Karni, Stratton said missing WrestleMania gave her a chip on her shoulder, and she is determined to make sure it never happens again. Outside WWE, Lucha Underground suddenly resurfaced after years of silence with a "¿Más?" teaser and the caption "soon." Taya Valkyrie, Willie Mack, Ivelisse, Vinnie Massaro, The Butcher, AJ Francis, Shelly Martinez, Chelsea Green, and Brian Cage all reacted, with speculation already pointing to anything from a YouTube library rollout to something bigger. AAA is also teasing a shift of its own. Marisela Peña Roldán confirmed that a new general manager will be revealed on May 23 in Mexico City after Dorian Roldán asked for the role. She made it clear that nothing in AAA will remain the same once the new GM is announced. Episode 183 is about transition everywhere. WWE is cutting major names while elevating new ones. Cody Rhodes is calling out the power above the ring. Tiffany Stratton is forcing her way back into focus. Lucha Underground is stirring again. AAA is preparing a reset. The whole landscape feels like it is moving at once. Be sure to support the show and follow us @TurnbuckleTavern. Until next week, stay out of the alley and away from the pork and beans. Good luck and good speed.

Spring is well and truly here - as clocks change, sunny days lengthen, and the occasional chilly night catches us unaware. But the main thing is plants are really starting to wake up and give us something to cheer about after a very wet and gloomy winter! Saul and Lucy look forward to really getting to grips with there gardens both at home and work - and Plant collections up and down the breathe of the UK start showing themselves at their best for all to behold. Finally the 2026 gardening year begins!Easter and gardens are a synonymous mix - who didn't visit a garden over last week to see all the spring flowers and enjoy a does of Vitamin D. Well Lucy and Saul definitely took advantage of the sunshine to see other peoples gardens waking up to the 2026 garden season. Deep Dive: From Meeting Talk to Meaningful Action

Have you ever left a meeting feeling productive, only to have your notes vanish into a "sea of tabs" or a half-finished notebook? In this episode, we dive into the critical 10-minute window after a meeting ends—the short timeframe where good ideas either become clear actions or drift into the "we should circle back" graveyard. We explore practical strategies from the Breakfast Leadership Network to ensure your meetings produce progress instead of just more meetings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Key Takeaways: Prioritize Outcomes Over Transcripts: The biggest post-meeting mistake is saving a word-for-word transcript rather than the outcome. Focus on capturing the three things that actually matter: decisions made, actions assigned, and open questions. Leverage AI Assistance: Tools like Fireflies.AI can act as a meeting assistant to automatically capture conversations, identify deadlines, and generate structured summaries. This allows leaders to fill in gaps in their manual notes and ensure the final recap reflects the full conversation. The Power of Single Ownership: Ideas only stay organized when they have a "home". Every action item must be assigned to a single owner (not a team) with a real deadline. If a task involves multiple people, one person should still be named responsible for coordinating to prevent accountability gaps. Visual Organization as a Workflow: Whether using a physical whiteboard or a digital canvas, keep ideas visible. A consistent structure—including priorities, owners, blockers, and milestones—allows the team to immediately understand project status at a glance. Closing the Loop: A meeting is not truly finished until a recap is shared. This follow-up should be a scannable "source of truth" containing decisions and action items, effectively handing off the discussion to the execution phase. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Featured Tools & Concepts: The 10-Minute Rule: Taking small organizing steps immediately after logging off to protect the value of the time spen. Fireflies.AI: An AI-powered tool for structured meeting summaries and tracking follow-up questions. Visual Board Layouts: Guiding attention to what needs action through structured digital or physical layouts

Most people are still talking about AI. Nik is building with it.In this solo episode, Nik does a live walkthrough of setting up his own ClawBot from scratch and explains why AI has already moved past the “nice productivity tool” phase into something much bigger. He breaks down how to think about bots as second brains, why every operator should be creating separate AI systems for different functions, and how tools like Claude, Telegram, Google APIs, and Fireflies can all work together to create real leverage. Nik shows exactly how he sets up a new bot, why he keeps accounts and permissions separate, and what kinds of tasks these bots can actually handle across content, reporting, research, creative, and operations. If you've been hearing people talk about AI agents but still haven't built one yourself, this episode gives you a practical look at what the setup actually looks like…and why getting started now matters more than waiting for the tools to get even easier. --- Roku pioneered streaming on TV.
