Welcome to the King’s Kid Convos Podcast where we have ONE big convo about living for Christ in the culture today! On this podcast, you will hear a mix of perspectives on topics that flow throughout everyone’s faith journey.
Let's talk about roots, the not-so-great kind. You can root yourself in bitterness or in blessing. In fear or in faith. Is the root you're settled in right now even comfortable? Be honest. Gabby [@gabrielleorrene] keeps it real on this episode as we discuss how to not let your diagnosis, symptoms, or feelings (no matter how controlling) become your identity. Symptoms simply indicate that you may need more of God's help in an area of your life, but it does not mean that symptom is who you are. Let this episode serve as an open field between the realities of mental illness + ungodly urges and the truth that is: We don't have to live under subjection to it. You are not unchangeable and the more we present ourselves honestly before the Lord the more you will see him changing you.
Loyal. Fun. Kind. Trustworthy. Dope. We all want these traits in the people we do life with but, we know people don't have to be in the faith to have great qualities. We need people in our circle who aren't just led by their hearts but by the SPIRIT! Back in SZN 1 Ep. 4, I brought my bestie on to talk about what it's like to have a real and true friend in Christ. Leaning into SZN 2, I phoned in my big sis Stephanie aka @_stephrenee_ and founder of @unveilyourcrown, to explain why we sometimes value good vibes over godly vibes. Is one greater than the other? Can a connection have both? No matter if it's a romantic relationship or a long-lasting friendship, how do we weed out the people that are worth being in relationship with? One thing: Spiritual Discernment. Listen now!
We've all been guilty of making God out to be some genie who conforms to our own agenda. Oh, the moments when we forget we're on borrowed time! We can also get caught up in only praising God, AFTER he comes through. NO judgement though! We can ask for anything in Jesus' name, but, there's a belief out there that if God is not going to do exactly what we want, in an exact moment, is the word of God false and is our request now null and void? Definitely NOT! No matter what you are having faith for right now, this episode is meant to show you that at every stage of the process, having faith is so worth it. WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SZN Y'ALL!
Intermission. Impromptu. Unplanned. This is me embracing not having a plan for this week's episode and it being okay, pauses and all. Just Jesus + vibes. An opportunity sometimes look so perfect, we think: “This must be God!,” but how can we really tell? It's one thing to get an opportunity but, it's another when God calls us to a position or path. What an honor to have my Bishop on this episode to give us King's Kids, some wisdom on obedience, opportunities, and dreamers. In sharing just one of his testimonies, our conversation delved into the this generation's opportunistic nature and how it relates to our individual faith walks. You can dream BIG AND walk in the purpose God has called you to. So, whether you're stepping into a new season, career, or just know you want to have a heart that pleases God…you're gonna want to hear this one. Do you talk to yourself? You're not crazy if you do. But, what kind of things are you saying? Are you building yourself up or tearing yourself down? How we talk to ourselves and others is a direct reflection of how we're talking to God.. or if we're talking to him at all. We always want our speech to project Jesus' character but sometimes we get careless with our words and don't end up in the best situations. I had a convo with the lovely, Zipporah Baldwin aka @zipporahmarie who uses words inspired by God to uplift young women in Christ through her non-profit ministry, Everyday Esther. She uncovers how powerful our words are (they can move mountains!), so press play to find out just how much words can WORK! ✞ ✞ p.s The wisdom Zipporah was giving was so good some of her words echoed back to her
The truth is, you're not alone. But, you might still feel pretty lonely. So, which voice in your head do you believe? A life seeking after God and his purpose for you, doesn't always have friends attached to it. So, will it be just you and God forever? We'll unpack this with Jasmine Kromah aka the host of @letsbrunchpod, who just came off a podcast series that revealed some amazing revelations about this very topic in her own life. We also chat about the importance of not just reading the word, but dissecting it. Jasmine uses her instagram stories to give a small daily dose of wisdom from the word. It's a sure way to change the focus from feeling alone to connecting with the one who's been there from the start. We're FINALLY kicking off SZN 2
What do you do when getting closer to God and further in your faith, feels like it causes people to walk out of your life? When you step away from one way of life and into the one God has for you, this can be a very real issue. One day you might have a circle of good friends the next they are wiped away from your life. You might wonder whether or not it was your fault? Or will you ever find a good group again? This situation isn't too tough for God and the answers are found right in his word.
The ones that have you blastin' Drake's “Views” album in your headphones at 1 AM. Yea, those feelings. Why is it that we sometimes don't know how to properly communicate them? Why do we feel the need to unload all of our emotions on social media? Subtweeting? Why would we would rather take a temporary fix to our feelings than deal with them head on? The hole we need filled from our past hurt and misunderstood feelings is only found in Christ. In this episode, we will unpack how and why culture handles emotions in this way and how we can move healthier in them. God is our refuge and he cares more about your feelings than anyone else does.
We've all heard the advice “Just be yourself”, but sometimes it's easier said than done. In this broken world it's hard to know if you're being you or being who people want you to be. We often get stuck in our ugly habits or what's trending and call it ‘being ourselves'. Looking inside yourself aka Introspection allows God to show you who you really are and find your identity in him. Let God show you the REAL you. www.16personalities.com
Free will. Why do we have a choice if God calls the shots? Why do we have a choice if it's going to end up how he planned it all along? Why can't he just choose for us? The creator of the universe giving us the choice to choose is almost impossible to believe. But, there is a reason God has given us the power to choose. In this week's episode, we're getting to the root of why our choice matters to God.
It's very possible to fear your gifts from God. You may know you have them but no idea what to do with them. Sometimes the fear is that you'll be rejected when you use them, or God won't come through when you take that step of faith. We all want that assurance that whatever path we choose is the right one, gifts included. Yet, in all that fear we can miss the Holy Spirit trying to guide us and only God can give the gifts and tell you how to properly use them. Let this convo in this episode be a reminder that God knows what he's doing with you AND your gifts.
You can tell how passionate I was about this topic in my tone
Your ride or die. They got your back no matter what. While God is the ultimate friend in our lives, he also wants us to fellowship with other friends! Some have their solid ones and others are still looking for that right group of people. Regardless of what stage you're at, you should know what qualities we should possess to be a good friend and what traits to look for in a forever friend. My bestie, Tylia Joy joins us this week to talk a little bit about our friendship, the ups and downs of it all, and what God says about a true and godly friend.
On this episode, we have a fellow fashion connoisseur of mine joining us by the name of Tenisha aka @Tenishatenisha.co, who will help us navigate through this topic of modesty. It's not a word that we often discuss in a culture where revealing your thoughts, opinions, and body is completely normal. But, as as we strive for a more intimate relationship with God, we do come across some convictions of our own, including how we should dress. What's acceptable fashion through the eyes of Christ?
Is it hypocrite? Boring? Brainwashed? We all know the stereotypes, but in this episode we will take them straight on. Sometimes one negative experience with someone who claims to be a Christian can have you identifying a whole group of people with very untrue labels. The truth is, Christians cannot be categorized. So, how have these stereotypes even come to be? Is there some truth in them? Can we change them and therefore change the way we view all Christians? God is more concerned about having a relationship with you than having labels like Christianity.
Is your identity found in social media? Likes? Views? Today, we are constantly being notified about any and everything by way of numerous social media platforms, yet, are we over-informed? It's so easy to get sucked into the world of comparison while scrolling through our social media timeline. It can have us believing the lies of the enemy instead of the truth's God says about us in his word. In this episode, we will address the issues around too much social media use, the benefits of social media breaks and how to get fed off our faith, not our feed.
