We pray, Generous and gracious God, you have shown us the fullness of your love in Christ, the Shepherd who gathers and restores, the King who rules with mercy, and the Saviour who gives all for our sake. Plant your love deep within us, that we may grow in faith, hope, and generous living. Through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Theological Maturity, Growing in Christ Podcast: Anchored in the Word with Dave Jenkins Date: November 20, 2025 Episode Summary In this episode of Anchored in the Word, Dave Jenkins walks through what theological maturity is, why it matters for every Christian, and how believers grow in it by God's grace. Drawing from Hebrews 5:14, Ephesians 4:13–14, and other key passages, Dave explains how maturity means being rooted in God's truth, steady in faith, discerning in practice, and Christlike in character. Dave also highlights how theological maturity protects us from false teaching, strengthens our witness before a watching world, and deepens our love for God as we grow in our knowledge of Him and obedience to His Word. Listen to the Episode Watch the Episode Episode Outline 1. What Is Theological Maturity? Theological maturity is not about knowing every Greek verb or winning debates. It is about being rooted in truth so that we are steady in faith, discerning in practice, and Christlike in character. Paul's vision in Ephesians 4:13–14, maturity means being anchored in truth and not tossed about by every wind of doctrine. 2. Why Does Theological Maturity Matter? Protects from false teaching. Immaturity leaves us vulnerable to error, while mature believers can discern truth from error in light of Scripture. Strengthens our witness. A mature church reflects Christ well to the world, whereas shallow faith leads to shallow testimony. Deepens our love for God. Knowing God rightly fuels true worship and obedience, knowledge that is warmed by love for Christ. 3. How Do Christians Grow in Maturity? Stay in the Word: Maturity requires consistent exposure to Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Commit to sound doctrine: Do not settle for feel good teaching, pursue truth that accords with godliness (Titus 2:1). Practice discernment: Train yourself by comparing all things to Scripture (Hebrews 5:14). Pray in dependence on the Spirit: Growth is Spirit empowered, not self powered. Stay planted in a local church: Christ gave pastors and teachers to equip His people (Ephesians 4:11–12). Live out what you know: Obedience is the mark of true maturity (James 1:22). Application Are you growing in Christ, or simply coasting? Do you find yourself easily swayed by new trends and teachings, or are you anchored in the truth of God's Word? The good news is that growth is possible for every believer. By God's Spirit, we can move from milk to solid food, from immaturity to maturity, from instability to stability in Christ. Essentials for a Church Growing in Christ-likeness1) Pastors who proclaim, feed on, and follow sound doctrine – vv6-7a. 2) Pastors and church members who train themselves for godliness – vv7b-10.Training for Godliness (Christ-likeness):· Valuable Promise - · God-empowered Effort - · Motivating Assurance – -Why is it critical that pastors themselves have a close relationship with Christ through His Word?-Do growing relationships just happen or do they require intentional effort? Show we expect the same in our relationship with Christ?-Have you exercised discipline to train yourself in other areas of life? If so, what did that entail? What would it look like to employ similar discipline in your relationship with Christ?-If someone were to observe you for a week, what would they conclude is valuable to you? Why is growing closer to Christ more valuable than worldly pursuits?-What about God's character gives you assurance in the promises of God's Word? For further study: Lk 18:29-30; Jn 10:10; Rom 13:12-14; 1 Cor 9:25-27; 2 Cor 11:27; Phil 2:12-13; Col 1:29; 2 Tim 3:10-16; Heb 12:1-2.

Meaning | Week 3: Growing in Christ // Ryland Walter // We were made to have meaning. Without meaning, life is activity without direction, and events without reason. However, there is a God who made you, and your life has profound meaning.
In Psalm 1, we get the picture of the person who is righteous and walking with God being like a healthy tree, planted in the ground by a stream, with roots going deep down in the rich soil towards the water, weathering whatever storms come, and bearing sweet fruit in season. This is how God made us and wants us to live. In our lives, we grow closer to Him by growing deeper. So in this series, we're looking at three ways - otherwise known as “spiritual disciplines” - that we can grow deeper and closer in our relationship with God by being rooted in Him.In this message, we wrap up our series by looking at the spiritual discipline of rest. As young adults, we're desperate for it in our culture, so where do we find it, why do we need it, and how can we live a restful life? Those are the questions we look to the Bible to answer as we aim to live with healthy rhythms of work and rest.We hope you're encouraged by this podcast! Scripture: 2 Peter 2:10-22
Do we recognize the things that subtly creep in and distract us from being able to love God with a whole heart? Fear and worry will eat up our focus and attention and crowd out our love for the Lord. Competition with the world - trying to love the Lord and love the world at the same time will cause our love for God to grow cold. And even just busyness (even if it's good things) so often distracts us from Him! We need to guard against allowing other things to pull our focus away from wholehearted devotion to the Lord. This is the foundational bedrock of the Christian life: God loves us. When we receive that love, it changes us. Our desire is that this new study on the command of Christ to “Love the Lord” will open your eyes to see the love of God for you. Receiving God's love is the one thing that will ignite in us a desire to love Him back and then enable us to become channels of His love to others.Want to go deeper in studying this command of Christ? Have you ever realized that from the beginning to the end of the Bible, the primary way that loving God is defined is by keeping His commandments? This makes all the sense in the world when we see that the word keep means “to treasure” and “to guard.” What are you treasuring in your heart? Because “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21).This is the foundational bedrock of the Christian life: God loves us. When we receive that love, it changes us. What would you say if a husband professed deep love for his wife, then followed up his declaration with, “But my life is just so busy, I only have 5 minutes a day I can spend with her”? You would call that man a liar. The greatest revealer of what we love is how we spend our time. If we were to be honest, most of us would admit that we view God's laws and commandments as a rigid checklist of do's and don'ts. But have you ever considered that all the commands have their foundation in love? It is life changing when we realize that all the commands are actually an expression of love - God's love to us and our love to God and others. This is the foundational bedrock of the Christian life: God loves us. What feeling does the word command evoke in you? Do you view commands as something hard, frustrating, and grievous? For many of us, God's commands can make us feel frustrated and burdened because we view them as something we must do in our own effort. But did you know obedience to God's commands is supposed to be a joy and even a liberty? In today's guest episode with Caleb Reed, your view of God Himself will be challenged as you see commands from a totally different perspective. God's commands don't flow from a desire to make us just behave and “stay in line.” His commands flow from a heart of love. God's commandments are an invitation from our loving heavenly Father to go deeper into a relationship with Him. If we find that obedience is a burden and a chore, it doesn't mean that the command is wrong. It simply means that our view of God is off and we don't understand His heart of love in giving the command. When we see and understand His love for us, obedience will become a joy.Caleb Reed is an evangelist who travels full time with his family preaching in churches, camps, and Christian schools. He and his wife Emma have 3 children. They have a burden specifically for the local church. They desire to come alongside local pastors and aid them in equipping the saints.
