DEI doesn't mean certain people got jobs, just for general purposes, like ignorant people believe. No! If Black people got hired, regardless the position, they still had to be the most qualified in the pool of interviewees. No agency ever gave a person a job, because of being a veteran, Black, disabled, etc.! It's a lie, they still had to be the most qualified for the position for which they were hired. Last week, I found myself scrolling through social media—something I don't do often—and within minutes, I was bombarded with conflicting opinions. One post told me I should be making art every day. Another said galleries were a waste of time. Someone else had a completely different take on pricing. It was a flood of “you should do this” and “you must do that.” And suddenly, I started questioning everything. That's when I realised: this is exactly how we lose touch with ourselves. The sheer volume of information out there can cloud our judgment, pull us in different directions, and make us doubt what we already know deep down. So today, I want to talk about how we can navigate this world of constant input while staying true to ourselves—how to filter through the noise, avoid overwhelm, and reconnect with our own intuition.

Dr. Sally Satel is a psychiatrist and a lecturer at Yale University. She has written widely in academic journals on topics in psychiatry and medicine, and has published articles on cultural aspects of medicine and science in numerous magazines and journals. She has testified before Congress on veterans' issues, mental health policy, drug courts and health disparities. She is the author of numerous books including Brainwashed, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Science.
