You should go over to my website and join my newsletter! BECAUSE everyone who does so before April 30th will go into the draw to win a copy of this book! Winner Announced on May 2nd. The National Disability Insurance Scheme is pegged to undergo some major reforms according to some recently leaked documents revealed in the media this week. Today's episode investigates if standardised testing and assessment processes will ensure a ‘fairer' outcome for Australians living with a disability, or if this might just be a quick-buck-saving scheme from a government with a history of doing more harm than good in the welfare portfolio. Don't forget to SHARE this podcast, mostly so we can get this important message out and try to change this disastrous policy from being implemented. Please contact your local Federal MP/Senator to voice your concerns. Have a great week! W
A ‘Hit job' is a pretty well-known style of journalism. The basic definition is to attack someone's character, and wordhippo.com, one of my student's favourite websites for English, suggests that other terms that fit are ‘smear campaign' ‘demonizing, and ‘character assassination. Last week, Aaron Patrick, a writer for the Australian Financial Review, wrote a ‘hit job' on news.com.au political editor Samantha Maiden. It was aimed at discrediting her investigative journalism that has uncovered some pretty shocking things in Canberra these last few weeks. Today's episode looks at how acts like this one, and other similar things, keep women from Speaking up about unacceptable behavior. Highlighting misogyny, lack of justice, and influence in the media, 'The 'Hit Job' on Speaking Up #auspol' has been written to hopefully keep the rage fire burning. Because I tell you what, THAT CROWN IS ON FIRE. If you like it, then you should share it with a friend!! Have a fab week!!
This week the rage of women has reached boiling point. There is no denying that, and according to the Australian Government, we're fresh out of ideas for handling it. In the spirit of looking at difficult problems with few solutions, we've doubled this weeks fires but adding Men's mental health to the show. *NOTE* This is some whacky sound issues in the first quarter of this episode. I'm still getting back on my feet a little - I can still play the 'I-had-brain-surgery-recently' card, right? So as you know, I'm a full-time teacher, I am in the leadership group of a major political party, I'm on several committees, I have three amazing children, I produce this podcast and I usually have two or three other personal project on the go at any one time. I love being busy, it keeps my brain happy and occupied, and reduces my aniexty. Lately, I've had a ton of people ask me, or comment on, how I do so much. It's taken me a long time to work out how to take on the mental load of being so busy, but in this episode, I share those tips and tricks with you - and give you some practical homework to help you work through it too! In the introduction, I also have a short rant about how 5 Indigenous Australians have died in custody since June, and yet this hasn't been declared a national emergency. I'd love for you to go sign this petition from GetUp! https://www.getup.org.au/campaigns/first-nations-justice-campaigns/stop-deaths-in-custody Don't forget to share this episode with a friend, workmate, or family member who you think could really benefit from this advice! And rate, review and subscribe!! Have a fab week! Wxx
Hello! This week is a little bit special. My sister, Leah, and I chat about the most memorable parts of our childhood, and what things stick out in our minds most, and we compare these to how we think our kids will remember their time during COVID. Our kids have a really wide span in ages, so I know that Mums at all stages will get something out of this real conversation! Please share this episode with someone you know might be worried about how much impact isolation is having on their small humans! In fact, please share this episode with anyone and everyone! Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and keep us company over there too! @Thiscrownisonfire Have a fabulous week! W
Hello! Welcome to another week of This crown is on fire. This week we are talking about the idea of "modern devotion" with co-host Lucia. I've been fascinated by stan culture, and this 'defend at any cost' mentality that I've seen rise through our modern society in the last five years or so. Lucia and I talk about faith, spirituality, and if the reduction in religious influences in our more secular society might have some role to play in this. Honestly, I think that this was such an interesting chat and I'm very keen to hear your thoughts! Hit me up on Instagram - @thiscrownisonfire - or via email; thiscrownisonfire@gmail.com You can expect some writing on the website (www.thiscrownisonfire.com) this week, but in the meantime here is a link to some of the stuff we mention in the podcast today; After work drinks podcast, with Naomi Wolf - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/is-beauty-the-last-feminist-hurdle-with-naomi-wolf/id1437516422 One example of Junkee's Analysis of Stan culture- https://junkee.com/stan-culture-anonymous/263987 Vaush - Social commentator on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1E-JS8L0j1Ei70D9VEFrPQ Women don't owe you pretty, by Florence Given - https://www.audible.com.au/pd/Women-Dont-Owe-You-Pretty-Audiobook/1788402251 Have an amazing week!! Hello!! Thank you for joining me on this episode of This crown is on fire! This week I am featuring a bit of a historical profile on amazing 20th Century feminist, The Great Sandwina. Born into a circus family in Germany in 1886, Katie toured the world with her husband and children as the strongest woman in the world. She was a leader in the suffragette movement in New York, and was well known for her strength, grace, and power. Come and join me to find out a little more about this fascinating woman. We all know that Willisa is a bit of a reality TV show tragic, especially the romanticized relationship narratives such as The Bachelor and Married at First Sight. In this episode Lisa and Willisa chat about the most recent season of Bachie, and how these constructed narratives impact the way that women in public roles are perceived. This eventually turns into some gushing about Gillian Anderson being cast as the ultimate-woman-the-world-loves-to-hate Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming season of The Crown. Enjoy! A SOLO EPISODE! In this episode Willisa dives into the emotion women report as being on of the biggest influence on their wellbeing - guilt. What is the impact of carrying this guilt? Across the ditch in New Zealand, a supermarket chain is adding the label "Period" to products that deal with exactly that, and so Willisa considers how this internalised guilt and shame that we've all be taught to manage around a perfectly natural and normal function of our bodies might be to blame.
