What if the exhaustion and lost sense of self in early motherhood aren't signs you're failing but signs you're being remade? Kate Mason welcomes Benita Bensch, author, certified Motherhood Studies Practitioner, clarity coach, farmer, and mum of four boys, for a warm, honest conversation about matrescence, the profound identity shift of becoming a mother. Benita shares her own journey through postnatal anxiety and burnout, the "black hole" she hit with four children under four, and the science and language that finally helped it all make sense. Together they explore why understanding this transition matters, how to recognise when to seek help, and why reclaiming your identity makes you a wholer parent. It's an empowering, hope-filled listen for anyone who has ever quietly wondered, "Who am I now?" In this episode, Eloise is joined by Katie Grosse and Talia Pollock, founders of Little Love Books, to explore what they call “the memory gap” in early parenthood - those intense, fleeting months where everything happens at once, yet so much becomes difficult to recall later. After experiencing this first-hand, both Katie and Talia set out to create a modern alternative to the traditional baby book: an app-to-print journal designed to help parents capture everyday moments in a way that feels simple, realistic, and low-pressure.They share their own journeys into motherhood, including identity shifts, postpartum mental health, and the emotional weight of trying to “keep up” with memory-keeping during the newborn stage. Together, they discuss why so many parents struggle with documenting early milestones, how guilt often plays into it, and why simplicity was central to designing their app.The conversation also explores:• The emotional reality of early parenthood and how memory is shaped during this time• Why the “little moments” often become the most meaningful later on• How Little Love Books was built to remove overwhelm and mental load• The importance of inclusivity in modern family-building• Why shared memory-keeping can support both mums and dads• How technology can support, rather than replace, emotional keepsakesWarm, honest and deeply relatable, this episode is a reminder that the smallest moments often tell the biggest story, and why capturing them doesn't have to feel overwhelming.Listeners can also get started with Little Love Books with 30% off using code: RIBBONBOX30.

Mums?
When three adult children vanish or turn up murdered back-to-back in Bakersfield, California, their heartbroken mothers refuse to wait for answers. Banding together to form a fierce, unstoppable sisterhood, they launch their own rogue investigation, uncovering a dark underworld of ghost guns, addiction, and fraud. But just as their amateur detective work forces a breakthrough, a devastating plot twist blindsides the community: one of the missing victims is suddenly charged with her own friend's brutal murder. The studio is buzzing after a massive morning! We dive into the wild world of "dodgy" transactions after a renewed Pokémon card craze sparked a literal ram-raid on a Perth toy shop which hits close to home because Trusso admits he went on a very sketchy-sounding (but totally legit) $7,000 card deal yesterday! In 2019, I pressed record for the first time and honestly had no idea what I was doing or where it would go. Six years and 250 episodes later, here we are. This episode is a celebration and a reflection. I'm taking you back to where it all started, through every pivot, name change, and season that shaped what the Life Aligned Business® Podcast is today. We started as Embracing the Natural Life, where I shared my passion for a low tox lifestyle while I was in the leadership ranks of doTERRA. Then came Embracing Life after I completed my Life Coaching Certification in April 2020. Then The Mum Boss Podcast as my focus shifted to supporting Mums in business. And eventually, Life Aligned Business® Podcast, the home it was always growing toward.250 episodes puts this podcast in the top 2.1% of all podcasts globally. I don't say that to brag. I say it because showing up consistently for six years, through life changes, business pivots, and the moments I nearly stopped, is something worth acknowledging. This one is personal. I hope it reminds you that staying the course, even when it looks different to how you imagined, is always worth it.Click Subscribe to get notified when a new episode is released

Are Australian parents okay? If you're finding parenting deeply exhausting, a study has found you're not the only one. Monique Bowley, Amelia Lester and Stacey Hicks are unpacking why parents are feeling so stressed out. Plus, Stacey has a theory that might just be genius. Also, are you constantly saying sorry for your kids just being...kids? We're discussing why we feel the need to apologise all the time and what it might actually be teaching them. Plus, whimsical grandparent names. Everyone is now 'Mimi' and 'Zaza' instead of 'Nanna' and 'Pop'. We discuss whether this new trend is just an act of rebellion from Baby Boomers who flatly refuse to grow old.Reccos: Stacey is loving Sea Monkeys, bringing back pure 90s nostalgia for an entry-level pet experiment. Amelia recommends The Kids Book of Paper Love, a stationery-stuffed Amazon find perfect for kids to build scissor skills. Do fathers in Singapore get a bad reputation for being hands-off? Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, who chairs the new Marriage and Parenthood Reset Workgroup, drew some flak for speaking about career “detours” as something that should be normalised for mothers - with little mention of a fathers’ role in the parenting journey. Why do we frame the parenting experience as mainly a woman’s role? In this episode of the podcast, I put that question to two fathers: new stay-at-home dad Jeggan Rajendram and Kevin Goh, the Group Head of engagement and programmes at the Centre for Fathering. We discuss who dads benchmark themselves to and whether mothers are preventing fathers from being more hands on. Highlights (click/tap above): 2:05 Are fathers missing from the parenting conversation? 3:30 “Regret minimisation”: Jeggan’s decision to be a stay-at-home dad 7:10 “People still look at me like I was crazy.” 11:27 Mums get a ‘head start’ on parenting 15:08 What’s holding fathers back from being more hands-on? 17:20 Mums, please involve dads, and let go 21:20 Whose standard is the right one? 24:05 The loss of identity as a stay-at-home parent 30:30 Being the stay-at-home parent doesn’t have to be forever 33:27 Encouraging dads to be more active parents 37:11 When dad’s your personal hairstylist 40:08 Will we have more babies if dads and mums are equals? On this week's episode of Sense by Meg Faure we explore the fourth trimester with honesty, warmth, and practical wisdom. This conversation is proof that less is more, and your baby will thrive when parents feel genuinely supported. Meg Faure is joined by Tove de Chazal Gant, COO of Parent Sense and seasoned mum of three, who takes the hosting seat and asks the questions every new parent is actually thinking. The First Six Weeks: You Are Not FailingThe first six weeks are brutal. Meg says it plainly. Feeding cycles feel relentless, sleep is fractured, and the baby seems to do very little and yet everything at once. Just keeping your baby alive is ticking every single box. Nothing more is required.Milestones: Windows, Not DeadlinesMilestones happen across wide ranges of normal. One late milestone is not a red flag. What matters is the sequence and trajectory. Consistent delay across a developmental bucket, or a gut feeling that something is off, is when parents should seek support. The Parent Sense app lists milestones with ranges in the play section.Sensory Overload: The Times Square EffectA newborn goes from the perfectly regulated womb directly into overwhelming sensory input. Meg compares it to landing on Times Square after living on a quiet savannah. Signs of overload include looking away, falling asleep, grimacing, and inconsolable crying. Tove shares her daughter Nova's story: born six weeks premature, Nova's development stalled not from inability but from a noisy home environment. Turning off background noise made all the difference.Less Is More, and Your Baby Will ThriveThe heart of this episode. Less social pressure, less stimulation, less obligation. The only stimulation that genuinely matters is quiet eye contact, serve and return connection, and touch through massage, swaddling, and carrying. Your baby has 45 minutes of awake time between sleeps. Being alive in the world is enough.Regulating Yourself to Regulate Your BabyBabies cannot self-regulate. Parents must co-regulate. Meg offers two practical tools: square breathing (six seconds in, hold, out, hold, repeated three times) and using feeding as a mindfulness moment. Even five seconds of intentional presence at the start of a feed can shift your physiological state.Listen NowThis episode is essential for every parent in the fourth trimester. Meg Faure reminds us that less is more, and your baby will thrive in an environment of calm, connection, and realistic expectation. Round nine of the Super Netball season fell on Mother's Day weekend in Australia and that was extremely fitting as we found out the shock news that NSW Swifts midcourter Paige Hadley would be returning to the court just 10 weeks on from the birth of her son Tully. Clint, Meg and Dan kick off Friday with headphone drama and banter, then Dan recounts taking his son to Auckland Zoo, getting dripped on by a tiger and embarrassing himself climbing up a slide rescue. They celebrate David Attenborough turning 100, chat to long-time listeners who are truck drivers, and bring back “Hit The Spot” with Dan attempting Mumford & Sons for a Mother’s Day tie-in. The team plays a Mother’s Day trivia game, talks weekend sport with Laura McGoldrick, and Dan fails to convince a Canterbury mechanic to support the Blues. The team see who is Employee of the Week, Scandal includes KJ Apa and Kevin Hart, and Fire Chief Dave Phillips discusses underfunding and breakdowns in NZ Fire Service. They debate “hot or not” hobbies, award a Mother’s Day prize to Lisa, and Meg shares a chaotic bean-and-salad disaster day. 00:00 Unhinged Show Intro 01:51 Zoo Trip and Tiger Juice 02:57 Slide Rescue Disaster 04:51 Attenborough Turns 100 06:14 First Calls and Truck Talk 09:59 Hit The Spot Practice Run 13:44 Mothers Day Quiz Game 17:13 Laura McGoldrick Sports Preview 22:16 Who Dares Blues Pledge Prank 25:22 Employee of the Week Roast 29:26 Scandal Headlines Roundup 30:45 Fire Service Funding Crisis 34:45 Hot Or Not Hobbies 40:17 Listener Hobbies Hotline 44:49 Hit The Spot Mothers Day 47:49 Mothers Day Letter Surprise 52:11 Meg Worst Day Ever 01:01:11 Burnt Toast Theory Wrap 01:02:31 Final Sign Off

Season 11 closes with what Pete and Tommy insist is a whimper, which is how you know it is absolutely not a whimper. They handed each other their worst possible topics — trash and recycling for Tommy, seasonal stuff for Pete — and accidentally made an episode about deception, ancient biology, and a rhinoceros named Cacareco who won a 1959 São Paulo city council seat in a landslide.Tommy did, in his own words, "too much research" on recycling, which he now says as a warning. The chasing-arrows symbol is not what you think it is, the plastics industry has known since the eighties that none of this was going to work, and your Starbucks cup is currently booking a one-way flight to Senegal. Pete's seasonal-stuff segment begins with mums — the flower, not your mother — and lands somewhere near the claim that 84 genes in your body are in active dispute with late-stage capitalism about what time of year it is.Thanks for listening to Season 11.
Episode 214:For today's guest episode I was pleased to get the chance to talk to Rob Eastaway, author of a book all about Shakespeare and his relationship to numbers and mathematics. Rob's book ‘Much Ado About Numbers' is a very entertaining read, whatever your level of understanding maths might be and quite an eye opener when considering how much maths permeates into Shakespeare's plays. This is not just about hard numbers and number crunching, but touches to the Elizabethan attitude towards descriptive scales, astrology, astronomy, music and optics. Rob does a great job in the book of condensing these very broad and often technical subjects into a book that is a mixture of popular science, mathematics, history and, of course, literature, so it was great to chat to Rob about just some of those concepts.Rob Eastaway is author of several bestselling books connecting maths with everyday life, including "Why do Buses Come in Threes?" and "How Many Socks Make a Pair?". His first book "What is a googly?", an introduction to cricket, was famously presented by British Prime Minister John Major to President Bush (snr) at Camp David in 1992, and was published in the USA under the title "Cricket Explained". With Mike Askew, he wrote "Maths for Mums & Dads", a book that helps parents to understand the new methods being used to teach maths, and offers ideas for how to make maths more engaging and fun at home. An American edition was published in 2010 entitled "Old Dogs, New Math". Rob appears regularly on radio in the UK and is a regular speaker. An activity that has taken him to the Usa and Australia. He was President of the Mathematical Association from 2007-8.Links to 'Much Ado About Numbers:Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Much-Ado-About-Numbers-Eastaway/dp/1805460293/ref=sr_1_1?Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Much-Ado-About-Numbers-Shakespeares/dp/B0CWD3SNXP/ref=sr_1_1?Support the podcast at:www.thehistoryofeuropeantheatre.comwww.patreon.com/thoetpwww.ko-fi.com/thoetp You can find an advertisement free version of the latest podcast episodes by joining on Patreon at the lowest paid tier level – that's for just £1 per month. Finding mum friends is no easy task, but for one listener, all it took was an unconventional hiding spot at school drop-off.
