Host - Becky Bunnell
Becky Bunnell welcomes her first guest Katy Hancock on the Tribe Nail Tech Podcast. Katy is the author of "Start to Success - A nail technician's guide into the industry". she is an entrepreneur, nail salon owner, and mentor. Katy started her nail journey in 2010 after deciding life was too short to be stuck in the corporate world and she needed something more. She followed her passion and that turned into nail school in Murray, Utah. After graduation she started her own in home nail salon. She is very passionate about staying up on the trends which means taking risks, being bold, creative and focused on fashion.Katy continued following her heart and wanted to help others learn what the nail world was all about. She started a blog, then added in social media and then added her own website. All of this was great, but Katy was still looking for a way to get to a larger audience. So this is where she started her quest to write a book. This was her first book ever and she started small and locally. She said, "there is a beauty of connection in community". Kat went to her local library to learn from other authors who stopped in to speak, she networked and continued to grow her circle of influence. She kept looking for more events at local colleges and eventually found her one on one mentor to help her get her book moving along. She also joined Facebook groups, and went to more events that lead to more feedback which helped her finish her book. You can find all of this and so much more in this episode of the Tribe Nail Tech Podcast. We hope you enjoy the show and remember to Tribe up and Slay your day!
Welcome to episode 1, finally! I created the Tribe Nail Tech podcast for a place for Nail Techs to come and to have the tribe of other Nail Techs so that we can learn together, grow together, be inspired, motivated and take Nail Tech's through to the next level. In the episodes I will be having guests, I will have artists. I will have other people in the nail tech industry and other resources to help us grow in your career. And then there will be some episodes where I will just be going solo and we will talk about different topics all things nails. So I am so happy here. I wanted to first tell you a little bit about myself. I have been doing nails for 26 years. I live in Utah and I started doing nails before Utah even had licensing. So school of hard knocks, right? So I took my first class acrylic class on all day acrylic class, and I was able to go out and start doing nails A lot of years, working in different salons, taking many classes which were hard to find. But I did and learned and grew. And then Utah decided they were going to pass licensing, I knew that they were going to need instructors. So I went and took my instructors test passed that and then reached out to a college there and ask them if they were going to be hiring instructors. And they said yes. So that was my first job as instructing. I was a professor at College of Eastern Utah teaching that nail technology program in Price, Utah, and I found a love and a passion for teaching. So that was my first experience with that, Still continue to do nails all these years. And like I said, 26 years later, I am still at it. Almost six years ago, I moved to southern Utah and had to rebuild my clientele here. So I continued doing nails. And then I was able to have the opportunity to become an Educator for So Gel Nails, which is a hard Gel company here in southern Utah that has changed my career totally. I've had to put myself out there, being out on social media stuff and being able to travel around and teach other people, and that has been amazing. So I've always had this passion for teaching, So that's kind of what love to do. I do hold classes all around of the United States, and then I also have lots of online classes that I've loved and what an amazing thing. To have the Internet to be able to teach people all around the world. It's been such an amazing career. If you follow me at all, you do know that I am a an administrator, along with some other gals on techtalk worldwide, Facebook Group. Where it is a group in a community for license, nail techs all around the world, and we do all kinds of tutorials, videos I have hosted with Amy Masters. We have done Vivify your Nail business. We've done JumpStart your nail business, all online training's. We are doing a tour right now of a six certification class, which has been amazing. So I have loved this career. I was able to be a Nail Star on "Cruise with the Nail Stars" in 2018. I have been published in Multiple Nails magazines such as Nails magazine, NailsPro and Scratch magazine. It's just been an amazing career, and so I hope that you being here, that I can help you in some small way to help you feel the support and that you can learn and grow and be inspired by being here. So, Tribe, Why did I choose the word Tribe? Tribe to me means family. And what is a family? A family should be a support system. It should be a group of like minded people that have the same interest in likes and goals. And so I hope that you find your tribe here and I hope you will be a part of my tribe and that we can grow together and you'll feel comfortable here. Tribe up and slay your day!-Becky
