Podcast providing a bird's eye view on human culture (we think).
If you conduct a quick search for the “top” intellectuals of our time, chances are the internet has a different set of criteria to crates its list than you do, which is somewhat puzzling. All intellectuals are intelligent, but not all those who are intelligent are intellectuals. The world is full of intellectual people who might never make a “top” list and whose work and words constantly go unnoticed by the masses, but why is that? For starters, ask yourself this question: how many politicians or public figures do you consider to be intellectual? Check out our latest episode as we dive into this topic and more.
A while back, one of our episodes took on a life of its own. The topic was the mid life crisis. We covered this topic simply because it is an "expected anomaly" in the average adult's path of life and we thought it was more than relevant to the human behavior we see around us. We still think that. That's why we decided to revisit the topic of the mid life crisis and give an updated perspective on this expected anomaly. Is the mid life crisis avoidable? What are some lesser known manifestations of it? Can it have a deeper meaning? All questions we explore in this episode.
Even before the craziness of 2020 came about, you didn’t have to examine society collective human behavior that hard to get a sense that we were going in the wrong direction; in other words, the future didn’t look bright. That is, of course, quite vague, but beyond a basic prediction of how our future will look, there is an element of ‘high strangeness’ and a tie-in to how a superior consciousness and (believe it or not) UFOs might be guiding us down this path. If we examine the connections between modern UFO encounters and centuries-old tales of visions of angles, demons, and other mythical creatures, a pattern starts to emerge. Let’s end 2020 with a trip! Latest episode is now up.
If you had to describe the state of our collective consciousness in one phrase, what would you say? Being intentionally vague, an appropriate phrase might be, “it’s in a transition.” What does that mean, and why do we think that? Well, as humans have evolved from one Age to the next, so too has consciousness. The realization that death is inevitable, mind-altering substances, and narrative-changing discoveries (like lost ancient civilizations or UFOs) have all shaped consciousness. As such a change doesn’t happen overnight, we may not overtly realize it, but it’s quite possible that we are living through a transition in collective consciousness, one that represents a catalyst, and one that future humans will look back upon with great intrigue. Join us for our latest episode as we dive into this possibility.
To help us analyze some of the connections and parallels between MMA, Pro Wrestling, and politics, we bring in TheeOriginalSin, Sinclair to lend his expert opinion as an artist and a fight fan. We touch on what makes these three industries so captivating in our culture as we head towards a conversation about the phenomenon known as creativity where we theorize what it could be and how some people are able to harness it better than others. Don't forget to check out our Patreon releasing on Dec. 01, 2020!
We are told the results are in and that Biden has won. That may be the case eventually, but as of now, and probably for at least the next few days or even weeks, the election has not officially been decided. Not all votes have been counted and there will probably be some recounts. Join us as we discuss this dilemma that we are in by analyzing propaganda in our media and how the perception of the voters can be manipulated by such tricks. No matter who you voted for, we welcome all listeners!
Most of us will be paying attention to what happens in the election tonight. As the talking heads on the boob tube inevitably drain your soul, take a moment to think about how politics and professional wrestling are similar. It might not be clear at first, but as we discuss in this latest episode, once you piece it together it becomes fascinatingly obvious they are cut from the same cloth. Food for thought as we embark through another election and a reminder to not let this shit drag you down all the time!
If you are familiar with the gaming world at all, you may have heard the term non-player character (NPC). Basically, NPC’s are those characters in a game that you, the player, can interact with, but they are very limited in complexity and in utility (like the computer characters walking down the street in Grand Theft Auto). Well, if you examine our world, there seem to be many NPC’s amongst us. And in the tangled social webs that we weave, you or I may also be an NPC to others. There is also an element of simulation theory embedded here, which starts to melt the brain if you sit and think about it for longer than five minutes. Check out our latest episode on the topic, and leave a comment to let us know what you think (if your brain doesn’t melt).
This post and episode will be “rated” by the likes and listens it receives. We rate restaurants, our college professors, Uber drivers, YouTube videos, customer service, and, well, you get the point (the list goes on). While many rating systems are designed to help and inform each other of what’s worth our time and money, when you sit and think about it, the list of things we don’t rate is growing smaller. Could this lead to a dystopian social rating system where human beings are rated and ranked based on arbitrary criteria? There are places in the world today that are experimenting with such an idea, so it’s not as far fetched as we would like to think. Check out our latest episode as we dive into the current rating culture and how we are closer to (but can avoid) a social rating system.
In the midst of the shitshow that is 2020, we are but 24 hours removed from the grand master shitshow: the first presidential debate. Obviously, a lot of people are talking about it, but like most political viewpoints, we think those conversations are too shallow. In this episode, we try to explore what the core societal and political issues are that led to yesterday’s shitshow. It’s hopefully different (but it’s definitely deeper) than all of the other “political” conversations out there now. Check it out and let us know what you think!
Can something as complicated as human health be directly linked to something as simple as the way you breath? According James Nestor's new book, Breath, yes. Previously, we have done episodes on ancient lost technology, but this series will focus more on ancient lost knowledge. There have been people throughout history who have, time and again, discovered ways to get and stay healthy with breathing techniques. But where does this information keep going? Why don't we all know this by now? Connecting this to the fact that certain diseases that society is plagued with today were almost unheard of a couple of hundred years ago. If we have better food now, why are certain diseases more prevalent now? ...Do we have better food now? Check out this episode for our thoughts on the matter.
Just a few weeks after the revelation came out where the government acknowledged UFOs that were ‘not made on this earth’, the excitement seems to have died down. Yesterday, the Pentagon announced it is launching a task force to investigate UFO sightings. The funny thing is, who really believes they haven’t been studying this stuff since the beginning? The UFO and Disclosure topics go so much deeper than what we see play out in the media or on network TV. The possibilities range from benign to mind-shattering. Check out our latest episode as we explore all of this and more.
Cognitive dissonance is basically when a person has inconsistent thoughts or beliefs. They believe Thing 1 and Thing 2, but they fail to notice that Thing 2 contradicts Thing 1. But why do they fail to notice? What is it about people that leaves them vulnerable to cognitive dissonance? And how does a person realize that they have contradicting beliefs or ideas? If you're interested in any of these questions, check out our latest episode.
Physical differences in humans, such as skin color, hair color, sex, height, weight, etc. are trivial when it comes to comparing one human to another. These types of differences are the low-hanging fruit in the tree of human culture. While most everyone is focusing on these trivial differences, there are other differences that have nothing to do with physicality but are the differences that drive most everything around us. These are differences in ideology, thought-processing, creativity, knowledge of certain topics, among others. How is a difference in knowledge addressed by a society? What makes one person more creative than another, and what makes the other person have a higher work ethic than the next? In this episode we touch on these abstract questions by discussing some elements of a person that give him/her an advantage or disadvantage in the mental systems they use to process the world around them. Check out this episode if you're ready to leave the physical world and take a little trip into the mind.
What is the future of surveillance? Once everyone is being recorded in every possible way, where do we go? How about the future? If you've seen the films A.I. and Minority Report, you might appreciate the deeper meanings behind them and how prophetic the films might have been in predicting the future. Artificial intelligent beings seem to be approaching, but what about predicting the future? If we can't tap into people with psychic abilities to tell us if someone is about to commit a crime, would analyzing biometrics give us a similar view? Between fitness trackers and now talk of people's biometric data being tracked due to the pandemic, we seem to be making moves that will make human behavior much easier to track in the near future. Check out our episode for more a deeper look into these theories.
A while back we came across a documentary called, “What’s with Wheat” that investigates the growing wheat/gluten intolerance across the world. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the wheat industry is deeply intertwined with our consumerism culture, which likely plays a role how we got to this gluten-free era. It’s worth a watch, and although not without its biases, it lead us to explore some related topics. Mainly, this phenomenon that “information isn’t enough” for people to change their unhealthy habits and the dying concept of “food is fuel.” Check out the documentary if you haven’t, and catch our latest episode on all of this.
If you have ever wondered how a conversation on esoteric topics may sound, this is a good episode to dip your toes in. In a time where information is exchanged at a reckless pace, esoteric knowledge is becoming even more valuable. We sit down with @thedancingbotanist for a great conversation on how major areas of society—health, media, politics, history, you name it—have esoteric elements, and the discussion took all sorts of turns along the way that were necessary to explore. It was a great chat so give it a listen and stay tuned for more to come.
Straight outta lockdown and right into a curfew! We just can't catch a break! But luckily we have a treat of an episode for you guys. The much anticipated, UFO episode. We've done episodes on aliens and such things in the past, but here we focused mainly on the UFO phenomenon that has been with us for much longer than you might think. Recorded towards the tail end of the lockdown, we cover the new UFO acronyms, the documentary Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind, the possible connection between UFO sightings and consciousness, and we have an announcement at the end of the episode so stick around for that! Be safe if you're protesting and catch this episode to dip your toes in another rabbit hole!
Some of the most adventurous conversations we have had are ones where we unexpectedly go down the rabbit hole. Well that’s exactly what happened when we sat down with @thejohncornelio for a chat on the current state of affairs and many of the alternate ideas and theories that aren’t often discussed. This was a fun and wild conversation, to say the least. We will certainly have John on again to talk about some of the finer details, but for this episode, all were content in diving into the rabbit hole. It’s good to get lost once in a while. Listen in and get lost with us.
Some days, we wonder how human behavior and psychology can ever be fully understood; the ways in which they can be influenced seems infinite. For as coked-out as Sigmund Freud may have been, this there is little doubt that his psychoanalytic principles have shaped human behavior and psychology in ways many of us aren’t familiar with. One of the more covert/clever/sinister examples of this is highlighted by the documentary called “The Century of the Self” (free on YouTube!). The film details how Freud’s nephew and the ‘father’ of public relations, Edward Bernays, worked with corporations and governments to shape the fabric of societies for decades, with much of it still evident today. It’s a Top 5 must-watch, so check it out along with our latest episode as we break it all down (we know you have the time, don’t lie).
In 2010, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Business Network (GBN) published a report called, “Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development”. In it, they describe four scenarios (each of which contain numerous “subplots”) they believed could play out over the next few decades as technology advanced. Three of the four scenarios don’t exactly paint a rosy picture. In hindsight, it’s easy to point out where some predictions were wrong, but there are thematic elements and some eyebrow-raising examples provided in the report that ring true now and are too juicy to remain undiscussed. One of the scenarios, “Lock Step”, is the focal point of our latest episode.
In the midst of chaotic situation we find ourselves in, it’s hard not to look around and go, WTF!? This pandemic has made us (re)ask the question: where are all the smart leaders? A leader does many things for a people, not the least of which is inspire them to do or be better. We all had individuals that inspired us as kids, but that pool of people dries up by the time we’re adults. Still, think right now of 3-5 people that inspire you..........are any of them politicians? Likely not, and this is the crux of our latest episode.
Our second ever recording via Skype! Not under the conditions we expected, but such is life. In this episode, we talk working remotely, mass unemployment, social distancing, news media, conspiracy theories, and more. For the next few episodes, we don't plan on ignoring the coronavirus, since that's on everyone's mind, but we also don't intend to focus only on the virus. In THB fashion, we plan to take a look at the incredible behavior displayed by the wide spectrum of people throughout the land during such a strange time. Stay tuned.
Tina Hall joins the podcast again for another discussion on dietary habits and health in society. This podcast was recorded a few days before the lockdowns began to happen so we had a great coronavirus-free conversation for the most part. Obviously, nothing in this episode should be taken as medical advice. As Bruce Lee said, "adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own". We also want to congratulate Tina for giving birth to a baby girl just a few days ago!
We were joined by the one and only Pariah Pete again for our latest episode. We chat we Pariah about his latest sold-out show, the beauty and struggle of creativity as well as where it comes from, and the “trance” you go into while performing. Just like he does on stage, Pariah brings the juice in this one, so check it out!
Movement. It’s a simple but vital component of good physical and emotional health. We have a natural craving for movement, but we also have a hard time sustaining positive habits when it comes to our health—typical human behavior, am I right? Dance and Pure Barre instructor-extraordinaire Michaela Konzal joined us for a valuable discussion on the importance of movement, meditation, diet, and more!
Dodgeball, baby! Many of us grew up playing dodgeball in grade school, and perhaps beyond, and there are often vivid memories associated with the sport that we can’t forget. It’s a simple game, but there are many valuable lessons to be learned that apply to real life. Yet there has been a steady trend of banning dodgeball from schools over the past decade, for reasons we’re not sold on. People/kids love dodgeball, damnit! Take a listen to our latest episode as we sit down with Tommy Daniels for a great chat on how dodgeball parallels life.
#61 Here's a smorgasbord of an episode for you all. Rooted in the human relationship with nature, we chat about the Chinese coronavirus, then we make our way to the cyclic nature of nature with lost civilizations, before we talk about the "vampire outbreak" in New England a couple of centuries ago. Find out how they're all connected!
We sat down with Vincent De La Cruz, the man behind the THB Podcast logo design, and had one helluva chat. Hard to sum it all up here and do it justice—much of it was intellectually stimulating, some of it was light and fun, too. Vince has a unique view of the world and articulates it well. It was an awesome conversation and we covered a bunch of ground from art to philosophy to politics. We hope you enjoy it.
The Truth is something that we are constantly searching for. Some people claim that they are “woke” and have access to the truth, and act like it’s always a good thing. But peel back the superficial layer and you can see that being “woke” and discovering truth can be exhausting or downright scary. We're constantly faced with red pill vs blue pill moments and many people usually take the blue pill because ignorance is more comfortable, highlighted by the ever-popular quote, "ignorance is bliss". A final thought on "wokeness": people who say they are woke are typically not. Taking the “red pill” and coming to grips with the truth is the subject of our latest episode; check it out!
It was our pleasure to sit down with Julie Blew for a conversation we won’t soon forget. Julie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) a while back, but has been absolutely kicking its--and life’s--ass since then. Julie is very open about her journey, and has started several ventures, including @fumsinc to help find a cure. She’s a warrior in every sense of the word; we hope you find some inspiration from her words.
In this day and age, we have a wide variety of technology that supposedly makes our lives better. We have unprecedented access to information, we have the most comfortable accessories that we are able to design, and we have the most advanced medical and exercise equipment that the human mind can come up with. But if we have all of this, why are so many still dealing with countless ailments and injuries? Why do so many seem so unhappy when our lives are designed with our comfort in mind? Is it possible that we've overcomplicated things to the point that they have become a detriment? And can we find health and happiness by giving up complexities and sticking to basic and ancient forms of care? These are some of the questions we tackle in our latest episode.
Of course there’s nothing wrong with capitalizing on a few deals during Black Friday. But to plan the day, week, or month around it can take someone out of themselves and into the realm of materialism. This is where our consumer culture resides and it’s becoming more and more clear that consumerism is one of the things that is keeping people from being satisfied with their lives. Of course it sounds counterintuitive, like many other things we’ve covered in previous episodes and will cover in future ones. That’s just the way the stuffing crumbles.
As we age, we hopefully realize how our own experiences are rarely the same as anyone else’s. This leads to different perspectives on struggle, authority, money, racism, and life in general. We sat down with Los Angeles based music producer and artist, Angelo, to reflect on those experiences and how better understanding of the self ultimately leads to a better understanding of others.
Just as we thought we had a grip on the lost civilization/technology topic, we get thrown for a loop! You guys really need to #lookintoit and your minds will be blown. There is so much out there that we thought we knew, but we may not even be scratching the surface. Lost cities in the Amazon? New revelations on the Sphinx? Newly discovered Jordanian lost temples? It’s all out there, and it’s the subject of our latest episode. Check it (and our previous lost tech episodes) out now
Has anyone else noticed that we have this unique relationship with Comfort? We routinely put ourselves in uncomfortable situations to ensure we’re comfortable in others (working like a dog for a cushy retirement comes to mind); we want comfortable lives, but too much comfort appears to be detrimental to one’s progress in some cases. We seem to have a comfort conundrum on our hands. In THB fashion, we often end up with doublethink and screwing our selves over; we are collectively working on it, though! Our latest episode on Comfort is out now, check it out and let us know what side of the conundrum you fall on!
UFOs. Animal mutilations. Ghosts. Oh my! Virtually any type of paranormal activity that you have heard of has likely been reported at the infamous Skinwalker Ranch. Located in the NE corner of Utah, this ranch has a long history of unexplained phenomena, so much so that’s it has been called the “paranormal capital” of the world. The ranch remains shrouded in mystery, and the possibilities of the true nature of it can’t be understated. Join us for the discussion on Skinwalker Ranch and get freaked out!
Do you (yes, YOU reading this) have the slightest idea of what your limits are, how far you can push yourself to the edge physically, mentally, and emotionally? The limits of humans are largely unknown when you consider it, in part because it’s uncomfortable to challenge yourself and risk failure. Our latest episode on human limits explores this fascinating topic, come have a listen!
After a short break, THB is back! For our latest episode, we sat down with Staci Jane Steiner to discuss the various relationships (to others, to things, and to the self) that define who we are. We have dozens of relationships that may seem unrelated, but if you examine our behaviors closely, it’s easy to see how many are connected. This was a great chat, we hope you enjoy it as well.
We sat down with jazzy R&B crooner Isaiah Tilson for a great discussion on his journey as a musician, his multiple personas, songwriting, and the thrill of being a performer. This cool cat really does it all. His latest project, “Classed Up” is out now, and the album release party is toniiiiight, ya’ll. Check him out, and check out the podcast episode, damnit.
Young legend Pariah Pete joined us for our latest episode. We discuss the beauty and struggle of being a young artist, the strange ways in which the universe gives us signs of being on the right path, hip hop culture, and the importance of creativity. His latest project is called Mercury--check it out on all platforms.
It's easy to become pissed off or jaded when discussing (arguing?)politics. The "middle ground" has all but disappeared and every time you turn on the news, it's emotionally charged. What is difficult then, is sorting through all the noise, conspiracy theories, and misinformation that's out there to come to you own conclusions - It's a crazy world out there, don't let it take your sanity. Politics part deux.
For some reason, Politics is a topic that always seems to sneak its way into conversation. It’s an odd thing because the way in which most of us discuss Politics is quite shallow, on the surface, and comes from a place of emotion rather than understanding. How does the culture of Politics affect the way we understand, and in turn, discuss political issues? Can one person ever know enough to be truly informed? Check out our latest episode for a deep-state conversation.
A battle as old as time is that between Good and Evil. It has developed into many fabled stories over time, and now we’re hooked on it. This is generally why people love the idea of superheroes and super-villains. It’s Good and Evil played out perfectly. But could we handle a reality in which superheroes (based more so in morality and not abilities) actually existed? There is a lot of good and evil in the world, but how close are we to truly having a superhero, or super-villain?
For the latest episode, we sat down and had an awesome conversation with Sunny Kartel. If you know him or have seen him perform, you know the man oozes passion and intensity with everything he does, and that was certainly the case during our chat! We were happy he could share his thoughts and wisdom on love, music, personal struggles, and (what else was a big topic?). Also make sure you check out his latest project on YouTube called ‘Youthenized’.
The man, the myth, the legend, Lee Water, joined us for our latest episode. Great conversation about the importance of creative outlets, how music was born and how it has shaped our very existence, and why some people don’t consider themselves creative.
Collectively, we are fascinated with progress. We love talking about making progress. We love to complain when progress isn’t being made, too. The problem with a lot of “progress” is that it’s hard to measure or even define. Why is that? Well, we try to get to the bottom of it all with special guest Saskia Soliz to explore how progress is measured and ask: are we focusing on progressing toward the right things?
A classic story in Plato’s Republic is “The Allegory of the Cave”. Without getting too deep, the basic premise is that perception is not always reality, and that we are often ignorant about the true nature of reality. Well, hot damn! That premise is certainly true concerning current and historical topics such as Nazi Germany, The Atlantic Slave Trade, and Ancient Civilizations. Have no fear, in our latest episode we discuss these topics and more as it relates to The Allegory of the Cave. Check it out, we hope you learn--or question--a thing or two!
Nikola Tesla is one of the most influential figures in history. Many of his inventions are still used in modern society, from the alternating current to X-rays and radio. His influence simply can’t be overstated. Despite this, history lessons often only lightly discuss—or completely brush over—Tesla’s significance. Why is that? Perhaps it is because Tesla was not a man concerned with power or money, but instead one that was focused on helping humanity, and history is rarely shines a light on such people. Check out our latest episode as we discuss Nikola Tesla and the mystery of his legacy.
Aliens. What more do we need to say? What more can we say? This is less of a discussion on the probability of alien existence and more on how society has perceived the existence of the concept of aliens. Be prepared to leave with whatever opinion you already have, but you might have some new perspectives by the end of this episode. Also, if you find Bob Lazar intriguing, we have a whole segment on that.
So influential in our society, Media--not just "The Media"--is a one-of-a-kind case study of human behavior. Since television came into our lives we have been bombarded with all kinds of media. And now that we all carry mini-televisions everywhere, we're constantly bombarded, period. The News Media is a great concern in this topic because a healthy society needs healthy sources of information and the media's reputation, left and right, has been in question for a while now. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, you likely have some concerns about how media operates. Is it possible to have truly unbiased media? Our latest episode on media is out now, take a listen and let us know your thoughts!
