Another packed week on Livin' in San Diego! Chris and Cassidy cover everything from weekend soccer tourneys and the never-ending rant on ump cams, to the latest New, To-Do & Adieu segment:NEW: Round 1 arcade + food hall coming soon to San Diego.TO-DO: HoloHolo Fest takes over Gallagher Square with reggae and island vibes.ADIEU: Saying goodbye to summer… but hello to Locals' Summer.⚽ On the sports side, San Diego FC locks in a playoff spot (history in the making). And for the big feature this week: Cassidy's origin story — from growing up in Olivenhain, to a stint in New Mexico and San Francisco (yes, how he became a Giants fan), and why he ultimately came back to call San Diego home. It's a mix of local life, sports, and stories you won't want to miss.
As we continue our track-by-track exploration of Curse of the Damned in honor of that record's tenth anniversary, we now reach one of the deep cuts. "Livin' Dangerous" is a straight ahead, no-frills rock'n'roll song that Night Demon rarely plays live. In this episode, you will learn why. The guys talk about influences for the song, when it was written, how they woodshedded it live the same night they wrote it, and how the song evolved over time. You will hear whether this track is or is not a ripoff of a Motorhead song, why it was left off the Live Darkness album, and what redeeming qualities the band members find in it today lyrically and from a live performance standpoint. How to Break Free from Founder-Led Operations: Ral West's Six Principles for Entrepreneurial FreedomIn this episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur, host Josh Elledge interviews Ral West, founder of Ral West: Livin' The Dream, a business coach and serial entrepreneur who helps six- and seven-figure founders step out of the day-to-day grind. Ral shares how she and her husband went from being tied to every task in their business to building systems that gave them true freedom. She breaks down her six principles for entrepreneurial freedom and explains how founders can delegate with confidence, build teams that thrive, and create businesses that support the life they actually want.Ral West's Six Core Principles for Scaling Without BurnoutRal West knows firsthand how easy it is for entrepreneurs to become the bottleneck in their business. Her six principles offer a practical, proven roadmap to shift from overwhelmed operator to empowered owner. The journey starts with building robust systems. Ral emphasizes that without clear, repeatable processes, founders stay stuck handling every detail. She recommends documenting even the smallest tasks and investing in tools like SOPs, automation platforms, and video training. Next, she encourages founders to measure and track data relentlessly—what gets measured gets managed. Setting up dashboards and reviewing KPIs regularly keeps the business on track and reveals areas for improvement. One of the biggest mindset shifts comes through leveraging your time through delegation. Ral explains that true growth comes when founders stop doing everything themselves and start empowering others. She outlines how to delegate with structure, train your team effectively, and release the fear of imperfection. From there, it's critical to intentionally shape your company culture, develop your team, and deliver exceptional customer service. When these principles are in place, the founder becomes the visionary—not the workhorse.About Ral WestRal West is a serial entrepreneur, business coach, and founder of Ral West: Livin' The Dream. With decades of experience building and exiting multiple businesses, she now helps high-earning entrepreneurs reclaim their time, build systems, and scale their companies sustainably.About Livin' The DreamRal West: Livin' The Dream is a coaching and mastermind brand that equips entrepreneurs with tools to scale their businesses without burnout. Through small-group programs, personalized mentorship, and practical business systems, Ral helps founders design businesses that serve their lifestyle—not the other way around.Links Mentioned in this Episode:Ral West on LinkedInRal West: Livin' The DreamEpisode Highlights:The six principles for escaping founder-dependency and reclaiming your timeHow to build systems that let your business run without youWhy delegation is the key to sustainable growth (and how to do it right)Ral's advice on letting go of sales and building a strong teamA roadmap for founders ready to trade burnout for freedomConclusionRal West's story is a powerful reminder that you don't have to be everything in your business to make it succeed. By building systems, empowering your team, and intentionally designing your operations, you can create a business that gives you both profit and freedom. Whether you're buried in sales calls or wearing every hat in your company, this episode gives you a clear path forward—one that leads to entrepreneurial freedom on your own terms.Apply to be a Guest

Sa episode na ‘to, nagbalik si Victor Anastacio para sa isang makukit pero malaman na usapan with Ali tungkol sa A.I.—oo, 'yung Artificial Intelligence, hindi Ali & Intellectwalwal. Lelz.

** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Featured in WYGYFF Episode 25: Singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist and drummer LeRoy Bell. With his famous uncle and Philly Sound hitmaker Thom Bell as a mentor, during the 1970s he wrote or co-wrote songs for Elton John, the Spinners, the O'Jays, the Temptations, Freda Payne, the Three Degrees, Teddy Pendergrass, Phyllis Hyman, Lou Rawls, Johnny Mathis and others. For John, he co-wrote the hit, “Mama Can't Buy You Love.” He was also one-half of the duo Bell and James, which released three albums and notched the funky dance hit, “Livin' It Up (Friday Night).” Along the way he shared the stage with superstars like B.B. King and Joe Cocker, released solo albums and led a group called LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends, and in 2011 was a standout on TV's The X Factor talent show. RECORDED MARCH 2025 Hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist, author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” and creator/host of the popular TRUTH IN RHYTHM podcast — "Where'd You Get Your Funk From?" is the latest interview show brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright. Twenty-five years after the world braced for Y2K, we're celebrating our 99th mixtape with a journey through the musical landscape of 1999 – arguably one of music's most transformative years. From Latin pop explosions to hip-hop revolutions, this episode captures the diverse soundscape that defined a generation. The late 90s represented a unique cultural moment when music discovery happened primarily through radio and MTV, creating shared experiences difficult to imagine in today's fragmented landscape. When Ricky Martin burst onto English-language charts with "Livin' La Vida Loca," he didn't just score a hit – he opened doors for countless Latin artists to follow. Meanwhile, Eminem's debut "My Name Is" signaled something revolutionary was happening in hip-hop, establishing a controversial voice that would dominate for decades. What made 1999 truly special was its balance of innovation and emotional depth. Blink-182's "Adam's Song" tackled teenage suicide with remarkable sensitivity, while Moby's reluctantly-included "Porcelain" brought electronic music further into the mainstream. The Chicks challenged radio censors with "Goodbye Earl," a darkly comedic take on domestic abuse packaged in an upbeat country crossover hit. These weren't just songs; they were cultural touchstones that reflected the optimism, anxiety, and creativity of a society on the cusp of a new millennium.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/1999-mix-99-episodes/pl.u-mJy8137uNE8XR1q https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4qZC4ONJesEZ2d6uz9s55j?si=da64abcd6c8c46de Livin' la Vida Loca by Ricky MartinMy Name Is by EminemSomeday We'll Know by New RadicalsBetter Days (And the Bottom Drops Out) by Citizen KingGoodbye Earl by The ChicksSteal My Sunshine by LENAdam's Song by blink-182Porcelain by MobyMy Own Worst Enemy by LitScar Tissue by Red Hot Chili PeppersHeartbreaker (feat. Elevating Songwriters in Music City… In the heart of Music City, a groundbreaking network of nearly 400 songwriters, known as Livin' The Write Life, is redefining collaboration and success in the music industry. Founded by songwriter Michael "Cef" Cefaratti, this vibrant "tribe" is dedicated to empowering its members and disrupting the traditional music publishing model. A Network Built on Mutual Support and Strength in Numbers Livin' The Write Life operates on the core belief that "your net worth is your network." Songwriter Cody Kelley emphasizes this ethos, stating, "We show up for each other, to prove there's strength in numbers." This collaborative spirit is evident in their consistent support for each other's performances, from showcases and writer's nights to "in-the-rounds." The network leverages the diverse skills and backgrounds of its members to benefit everyone, whether it's bargaining for studio time or securing airplay. Addressing Industry Challenges and Fostering New Talent Cefaratti highlights a critical issue in today's music landscape: the domination of a few major publishing houses. "It's near impossible for an unsigned writer to get a listen – much less a cut, today," he explains, "meaning the industry, not the artist, decides what music you hear." Livin' The Write Life aims to counteract this by building a comprehensive in-house service complement for its members, including publishing, song pitching/placement, a record label, and career management for aspiring artists. The network is uniquely structured around the needs of working songwriters, many of whom balance regular jobs with their passion. This flexibility ensures that "everybody has a chance to be heard and to write with other songwriters in our tribe." They celebrate successes, offer support during challenges, and transform these experiences into relatable, authentic songs. Cultivating Tomorrow's Sound Livin' The Write Life is focused on shaping the future of music. Kelley points out that "the songs on the radio right now were written at least 2 years ago... That songwriting style may not be popular 2 years from now." The tribe encourages its writers to break free from formulas and rules, allowing songs to evolve naturally. This forward-thinking approach is leading to the creation of "genre-less" music that transcends traditional boundaries of country, pop, and rock, preparing for an anticipated shift in the industry. Adysen Malek, a new songwriter in Music City, quickly found her place within Livin' The Write Life. She credits the tribe with helping her improve her craft in a supportive, non-competitive environment, stating, "None of us improves or succeeds, we all benefit and celebrate." This innovative network, founded by songwriter and entrepreneur Michael "Cef" Cefaratti, comprises nearly 400 affiliated individuals who collectively form a powerful "tribe." Empowering Independent Songwriters through Community and Opportunity At its core, Livin' The Write Life operates on an "everyone's welcome at the table" philosophy, providing crucial opportunities for aspiring songwriters. Through its limited Open Mic events, the organization offers a platform for new voices to be heard. The most promising talents are invited to join the exclusive "tribe," gaining access to high-profile exposure at renowned Writer's Nights and Showcases throughout Nashville. A Collective Approach to Success in Music City Livin' The Write Life is more than just a network; it's a supportive community where collaboration fuels collective success. By bringing together a large and diverse group of independent creatives, the organization aims to empower its members in an industry often dominated by major labels. This collective strength provides avenues for song pitching, publishing, and career development that might otherwise be out of reach for individual songwriters. We're back from our summer break with a conversation you don't want to miss. True friends are worth their weight in gold and our guest this week is one such individual. Jim Johnston seldom meets a stranger and has plenty of stories to share in his own right, but in this conversation we cover some fantastic stories and memories passed down by his dad, the late Elmo Johnston, and you won't find a much better encapsulation of our Old Florida heritage. Our topics range from Elmo's early days cow hunting to his transition into the earliest days of the sod business in Florida. From there, we also talk some Chalo Nitka history and get a highly entertaining glimpse into the early days of the Gladesmen culture and more. Tune in and get comfortable for a ride into parts of Florida's past that are fading fast.
