This week Shesha the Cuddler and Darrious the Destroyer bring to the forefront some important and, for some of these topics, painful news stories that have been buried under piles and piles of, to be frank, bullshit. Things that we don't see or hear because they would bring too much awareness to the marginalized people of the world. Fuck that. We're here to "amplify marginalized voices through subjects that matter" so let's do it. "In Marginalized News" we have the revolution that ISN'T being televised in Sudan, trans women of color who are being murdered, the importance of representation when it comes to media through Hailey Bailey as Ariel and Lashana Lynch as 007, the strict nature of abortion laws not only here in America, but also in other countries, and the very fact that to find most of this information we had to dig! Make sure to listen all the way through for the Question of the Week and the Shenanigan Question so you can be ready to answer on #TalkAboutItTuesday!!
In episode eight we break down some of the ins and outs of dating, specifically when it comes to finding a "match" online. Diving into everything from catfishing to "hatfishing", your hosts are here to give you all the tea on what happens online, what to avoid, and what to say in your profile to get the ladies, fellas, and in betweens to slide in ya DMs. Of course at the end we tell some of our horror stories, so stick around for the hilarious details!!
What better way to celebrate all this Black Excellence that's spreading around than talking about some of the most iconic shows, actors, actresses, and creators of the past! In "For the Culture - Part 2" we dive into things of the past like wholesome tv shows and prolific role models. We also discuss cancel culture, its impact, and just what needs to happen to keep this modern day Black Renaissance afloat!
Episode six is upon us and in this episode the over-aching theme is the omission of black cultural and creative advances from history. We discuss how things like the Harlem Renaissance, being brought here as slaves, and so much more have influenced all of our modern entertainment and creative ideas, sounds and visions. We talk about the difference between cultural appropriation vs cultural appreciation and the real difference between the two.
In this week's episode we sit down to discuss toxic relationships. Be they platonic, romantic, familial or otherwise, toxic relationships and people exist in all of our lives and it is up to us to unlearn toxic behavior for ourselves and learn what behaviors we will not accept.
It's Pride Month and y'all know what that means, it's time to #ShakeTheStraights!!! In episode four we drop all you need to know about the LGBTQIA+ community, how Pride started, and just what the Stonewall Riots meant for the queer community. We also speak to interracial and intercultural relationships! Get in on the quaking with this weeks episode of Urban Proper!
NSFW WARNING! If you are with your kids or at work, better put your earphones in as the hosts of Urban Proper dive into the very taboo topic of sex. Be sure to get in on the conversation with us on our social media channels to answer the questions of the day!
!!!!TRIGGER WARNING!!! This episode addresses topics of trauma, depression, and much more. If any of this material is triggering to you please skip the first section of the podcast.
