The more random the better. Join sisters, Feyisope & Moyo on their quest to demystify social constructs, cite numerous pop culture references, and occasionally confront emotionally jarring conversations.
Today, Yangarella Radio focuses on the softer side of Sears (if you know, you know) by examining the impetus and effects of “toughen up” culture and how it influences the ways in which we interact with our peers and the world around us. Does society's preference for not being in our feelings subconsciously limit how we define leadership, success, strength and even adulting? This episode attempts to understand the collective aversion, and arguably fear, of our most sensitive souls and the push to change them in the hope of creating a more “stalwart” populous. Muller v. In today's episode, Yangarella Radio explores and examines why stilettos at brunch often enrage even the most level-headed people. Though many of our structural models relating to outward appearance are mere societal constructs, we sometimes uphold them as if they were Murphy's Law and punish those who dare to rebuff Casual Friday. This episode takes a deep dive into a weird duality: the simultaneous obsession and hatred of the “glamorous, oh the flossy flossy” amongst us. Also, please excuse the glamorous sounds of nature peppered throughout the episode. “Ally” has become one of the biggest buzzwords of the last few years, but are people jumping from zero to sixty in their quest to self-designate themselves as such without actively analyzing or even admitting the biases that live within themselves and the microaggressions that they continue to perpetuate? In this episode, we analyze performative allyship, the role of social media in promoting well-manicured but disingenuous facades, and the nonsensical belief that you can't be prejudiced if you say, for example, recycle, or are “socially liberal”, or have a friend from a minority group, or voted for former President Barack Obama. Let's just say that several of our own firsthand experiences have proven that this logic is simply...and completely flawed. Further, we share our opinions on the work that needs to happen first before thrusting yourself into a sphere that you cannot sustain. Looking for more resources? Bet you thought we were done with Harry Potter right? WRONG. There is always more Harry Potter to discuss. But in today's episode, our pensieve won't show you any cute tidbits about house elves. No. Today we are looking behind the vault, the Gringotts vault to be specific, to unearth the haves and have-nots of the Wizarding World, paying special attention the galleon receipts of everyone's favorite overachieving and brightest witch of her age, Ms. Hermione Jean Granger #HJG. Today, we get a little serious as talk about a viral internet challenge that hits close to home for us: The Fufu Challenge. Our older sister Oyinade is back to help explain what the challenge is and to offer some helpful insight into how this challenge unfairly characterizes a staple food of many West African COUNTRIES (we are not a monolith), as well as those cultures as a whole, as different and, therefore, disgusting. Craving twin antics, Chessy’s famous chili and what can only be described as the best Chanel (we’re guessing?) children’s suit ever to grace the silver screen? Journey no further (well, at least no further than the distance between London and Napa Valley) than today’s episode where we discuss our favorite childhood movie: The Parent Trap! Listen as we analyze Lindsay Lohan’s stellar breakout performance, the VERY questionable parenting decisions, and, of course, how Meredith Blake is the hero we all deserve.
First, snaps to the alliteration in the title of today’s episode. That sentence alone should tell you one thing about us: on this podcast, we stan books. Today, we take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of our favorite books from school. On this journey, we also take some time to critique the all powerful consortium of English teachers who chose these books for our consumption in an effort to answer whether the classics we all read in high school are actually classics.
