In 1992, six murders occurred just off Interstate 70 in the states of Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. At first, these appeared to be random on-off murders. They were committed many miles apart, and each law enforcement agency was unaware of the others. Eventually, they were linked through ballistics.Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss these baffling murders committed on the long stretch of roadway known as Interstate 70. The killer had a very distinctive MO. He picked smaller shops where most likely only one employee would be working, and most often that employee would be a woman. He used a .22 gun to commit the murders and didn't always take all of the cash in the store. Many people believe that the killer moved on to Texas to commit similar murders there. You can help support the show at Patreon.com/truecrimeallthetimeVisit the show's website at truecrimeallthetime.com for contact, merchandise, and donation information An Emash Digital productionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Curtis Dozier's The White Pedestal: How White Nationalists Use Ancient Greece and Rome to Justify Hate (Yale University Press, 2026) explores how white nationalist thought leaders use ancient Greece and Rome to claim historical precedent for their violent and oppressive politics. It is difficult to ignore the resurgence of white nationalist movements in the United States, many of which employ symbols and slogans from Greco-Roman antiquity. A long-established neo-Nazi website incorporates an image of the Parthenon into its logo, and rioters wore Spartan helmets in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. These juxtapositions may appear incongruous to people who associate the ancient world with enlightened political ideals and sophisticated philosophical inquiry. But, as Dozier points out in this thought-provoking book, it's hard to imagine a historical period better suited to rhetorical use by white nationalists. Indeed, some of the most widely admired voices from ancient literature and philosophy endorsed ideas that modern white supremacists promote, and the social and political realities of the ancient world provide models for political systems that white supremacists would like to establish today. Part introduction to contemporary white nationalist thought, part exploration of ancient racism and xenophobia, and part intellectual history of the political entanglements of academic study of the past, this book reveals that contemporary white nationalist intellectuals know much more about history than many people assume—and they deploy this knowledge with disturbing success. Curtis Dozier is associate professor of Greek and Roman studies at Vassar College. He is the director of the internationally recognized website Pharos: Doing Justice to the Classics, which documents appropriations of Greco-Roman antiquity by hate groups. He lives in Poughkeepsie, NY. Morteza Hajizadeh is a Ph.D. graduate in English from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Some producers make beats. Pete Rock built a blueprint. On this episode of Unglossy, Bun B, Jeffrey Sledge, and Tom Frank sit down with the legendary producer, DJ, and MC for a wide-ranging conversation that runs from his Mount Vernon roots all the way to the present moment. Pete takes us back to coming up under Heavy D, spinning on WBLS next to Marley Marl at 13 years old, and the basement studio where Biggie, Run DMC, Nas, and half of hip hop passed through. He breaks down the stories behind the classics: how "T.R.O.Y." came out of real grief and taught him to treat music like medicine, how Jam Master Jay tapped out the drums on "Down with the King," and how he ended up singing the hook on "The World Is Yours." Plus the new De La Soul album, his love of comics, and why, after 53 years without a chip, these Knicks have him out of his head in the best way. It is a masterclass, a memory lap, and a love letter to New York, all in one. Follow us on Instagram @UnglossyPod to join the conversation, and get early access plus live recordings and more at Merrick Studios+. Unglossy is produced and distributed by Merrick Studios, where culture takes the mic.

This week we are back with part two of our mammoth session with Fr Conor McDonough OP, an exceptional Research Ireland funded PhD researcher in Classics, University of Galway. Conor tells us all about the new mendicant orders in 13th century Ireland: the Dominicans, Franciscans, Carmelites and Augustinians. Conor explains that these new orders were like 'networks of mass communication' and that friars are kind of like itinerant and urban monks. We hear tales of decline and reform, the Fourth Lateran Council, ethnic tensions, the encroaching black death, and attempts to establish an Irish university in the 1320s.Suggested reading and resources:Treasure Ireland Youtube series https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdPbRZbumpDdJjMBmh_wlGVdx_rQVH38O- Ó Clabaigh, Colmán, ‘The Church, 1050–1460', in Brendan Smith (ed.), The Cambridge History of Ireland. 1. 600–1550 (Cambridge, 2018), 355–384- Colmán Ó Clabaigh OSB, The Friars in Ireland, 1224-1540, Dublin: Four Courts, 2011.- Yvonne McDermott, ‘Women as patrons and benefactors of the friars in medieval Connacht', Journal of Medieval Monastic Studies, vol. 8 (2019), pp. 235-266.- Edel Bhreathnach, ‘The mendicant orders and vernacular Irish learning in the late medieval period', Irish Historical Studies, vol. 37, no. 147 (2011), pp. 357-375.Regular episodes every month (on a Friday)Email: medievalirishhistory@gmail.comProducer: Tiago Veloso SilvaSupported by the Dept of Early Irish, Maynooth University & Taighde Éireann/Research Ireland.Views expressed are the speakers' own.Logo design: Matheus de Paula CostaMusic: Lexin_Music

This week, Will and James are joined by Lidl-Trek's head coach, Mattias Reck. Born and raised in Sweden, like most people in his profession Mattias started out racing as a pro before moving into performance coaching. In 2017 he joined Trek-Segafredo, where he soon found himself nurturing the talents of a young Mads Pedersen (Swedish and Danish languages are pretty similar, says Mattias, which certainly helped with coaching). Today that relationship continues – Mads is something like family now – albeit Mattias is also personally responsible for a host of other riders, ‘mostly the Danish ones' plus women's WorldTour stars Shirin van Anrooij and Fleur Moors. We joined Mattias just after Paris-Roubaix, where Pedersen had finished seventh. Not quite the result the team was hoping for at the start of the Classics campaign but a victory of sorts given Pedersen's awful crash at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana at the beginning of February, which saw him undergo surgery and only return to racing in late March. Here, Mattias explains such emotional highs and lows of rider and coach when the proverbial hits the fan; the mental fortitude needed for rehab; and the care teams give to their riders, from check-ins to chats with team psychologists to the role of e-cycling platforms such as Rouvy for rehab. Mattias also explains why he thinks riders are getting faster, the latest thinking in nutrition and carb fuelling, the importance of fatigue resistance, the paradigm shift in training, and why cycling needs to tread a careful line between exploiting young talent and burning out careers early.Chat begins at 9.50-----------------This episode is brought to you by the Hammerhead Karoo GPS bike computer. Has Western culture merely forgotten God, or is the problem even deeper? In his remarkable new book The Desecration of Man, Dr. Carl Trueman argues that we have reached a new point in which culture has not only rejected God, but now desecrates Him. We can see this in the "shout your abortion" movement or the reveling in the mistreatment of immigrants. In this episode, Carl discusses the common thread of dehumanizing people that we see in the Sexual Revolution, technology, and how Christians approach death.Dr. Carl R. Trueman is Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. He earned an MA in Classics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Church History from the University of Aberdeen.
