He did his graduate studies in piano performance and pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado. His diverse experience of teaching music in the public schools (K-12), 2 universities, several large studios and a private studio helped him create a unique system of teaching.Some of Aaron's significant contributions to the field of piano pedagogy are SASR (Standard Assessment of Sight Reading), Piano Marvel (teaching and assessment software), Scale Ninja, Learn to Play the Hymns Boot Camp, and a collection of hundreds of student compositions. Currently Aaron is CEO of Piano Marvel and does seminars across the country on student motivation, sight-reading, group teaching, student ensemble performance, composition, and performance video creation. This was a fun conversation for me, with my tutor Aaron Garner. Aaron is a Director at Paul Eckman International and EIA in the UK and Programme Leader of the  MSc in Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis course,  working in collaborative partnership with MMU. He has many years experience in this field and has become, in a very short time, someone who I admire and respect for his knowledge and experience. Aaron Garner is a piano teacher and champion for innovation in music education. Like other teachers I’ve interviewed, Aaron’s business idea came from an inefficiency he noticed in his piano studio. Design improves in proportion with how accurately users’ true feelings are understood. However, are user experience practitioners doing enough to look outside their own field to evolve new research techniques? We spoke with Aaron Garner of the Emotional Intelligence Academy about the methods he uses to understand microexpressions – fine nuances which are often more reflective of users’ real reaction to a product, before they are quickly hidden in the interests of social etiquette.
